Classic local hometown bar with amazing food. This is my favorite place to go if I'm in the west metro. This place is great for Sunday night football games and a place to bring kids and friends. They have a back area that will fit a hockey team perfectly!! The food is above average; they have a few specialties. Basically, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I got their weekend special that was a smash burger with caramelized onions. It was delicious, and it went well with a local beer. They have a huge tap selection with local places and lots of up north stables. They have a full bar, and ranch water was a special when I was there on a Sunday. We were camping at Baker National Reserve but the Wild were playing so we stopped in to watch. The service was great! The atmosphere and vibes are exactly what you want from a bar like this. They have plenty of seating at the bar and around the restaurant. Great for families too. Pull tabs and the vintage feel brings it all together. The food was good nothing to write home about. The food is superb. The ambiance appears to be great but I have only ordered takeout. The service for takeout should be sort of trivial, but apparently not. The service was not as expected. First of all we ordered via Toast and Toast informed us it would be 20 minutes, so I arrived at exactly 20 minutes. Unfortunately this was one of the busiest times so I anticipated a little longer, however it took 10-15 minutes longer and I had to stand around to wait due to the time communicated via toast. Additionally, we left a 10% tip for takeout which is really questionable as to who gets the tip. Not to mention you are giving a tip before you have had any service. Never, ever again will we leave a tip for takeout. We had 3-4 people asking me if I was there for takeout, but not a single person seemed to be responsible for ensuring I received the takeout. The person who finally came with the takeout was about to take it to the bar to once again make me wait even longer. Fortunately they did not do that because I would have been furious and made a spectacle in front of everyone. So the poor service did not end here, once we got home there was not silverware for takeout. Da. Is this the first time you have had someone with takeout. Normally that would not be a problem but we just moved to the neighborhood and are still unpacking so the timing could not be worse. Just to think we tipped 10% for such poor service But wait it does not end here, at about 2 hours later we finally receive a notification from Toast that the order is ready, after I already picked up the order. I have been coming to the Red Rooster for a couple years after a weekly golf game. Our group of regulars were very happy in previous years, but not this year. Something has changed. Let me give you the good and the bad, and hopefully this will get back to the manager/owners of the restaurant. Service: the service staff in general is very slow. Slow to deliver drinks, slow to deliver food; and getting orders correct. There are a couple decent servers, but my group will move tables if we can see that a poor server will be handling our table. It is common to see your drinks sit on the bar for up to 10 minutes, for no known reason. If you go, order everything at the same time, drinks & food, etc. or you will be waiting Food: Slipping. Our main draw were the wings. We thought they were exceptional! Not anymore. The pizzas remain great. Our group also regularly ordered the burgers, fried chicken sandwich, the french dip, and the grouper sandwich, which is no longer on the menu, and tater tot for sides. The group consensus is that this is an overall slip. We as a group, we decided last night that it was our last night at the Rooster. Self awareness is important in food service, what you do well, where you need to approve, what's good on the menu what needs improvement. I had not been here since I was a kid. In almost 50 years, it still has the quaint charm I remember. Back in younger years, they had burgers, chicken and not much else. Fast forward, what an experience. The chicken salad croissant has beautifully poached chicken. Had a mock tail which was good, fair price. The s'mores dessert was enough for 3. Plenty of left overs. We visited the Red Rooster after a long day by the lake and were quickly seated on their patio. They provided a lot of shade with big umbrellas, so we were never too hot. The inside of the building was a little dark and had the vibe of many small town bar and restaurants. Our server was friendly and efficient and quickly took our drinks orders. I ordered a rose and it arrived cold - the perfect drink for a summer day! For food I ordered the walleye sandwich. The portions are large - a big piece of pan-fried walleye on a hoagie bun with tartar sauce and fries on the side. The tartar sauce was homemade and really good! The fish was crispy and not greasy. One of our friends we dined with ordered chips with salsa and queso. The restaurant was out of queso, but corrected the mistake by making her chips on the house and brought guacamole as a substitute - great service. Sad....We heard this place was so good again and couldn't wait to try it. Hubby ordered ahead of time and went to pick up the food. When he got there, no one placed our order and he had to wait. He said it seemed really disorganized and crazy. Then he got our food home. I got the Double cheeseburger that comes with grilled onions and pickles. There were 10 chopped up little onions on the burger! Hubby got the Colorado Burger. Supposed to be smothered in their house made pork green chili! No real sign of this chili whatsoever!!! I mean, there are the new "in" spots that draw crowds because of the newness, and then there are places like Red Rooster, thank goodness. It is somewhat of a step back in time, but this is a good thing. The burgers are huge, the wings are good (they had a wing special on either Thursday or Friday nights...in fact they have a special pretty much every night). I did think the burgers could have been more tasty had there been some seasoning in the meat, they were a little bland and because they are huge you notice that. But there are plenty of other food options. The service really makes this place. Friendly, accommodating, and fast. She kept our beers from being empty, which is always nice. Well, we ended up staying waaaaaayyyyy too long because while the RR isn't glamorous, it's one of the friendliest bar/grilles I've ever visited. Red Rooster seems to be mostly locals but we were treated warmly by both the bartender and other patrons. Another reviewer compared it to "Cheers" and I'd agree 100%. Everyone was just so....nice. (After a few days of mostly rude servers near the Mall of America this was a relief) Prices are really reasonable and drinks were being poured generously. I'm pretty sure people aren't going to drive here from downtown but it's absolutely worth stopping if you're nearby for a chill good time. Other random notes: *WTF is up with the pull tabs? Like there was a whole counter selling just pull tabs and people were buying literal baskets full. I love this place and stop for take out whenever I'm in the area. Tonight I did not feel like a welcome guest. Stopped after a soccer game and was cold and hungry. I waited at the hostess stand to place an order like I've done several other times. The young woman who was stationed there said I couldn't order from her but directed me to the bar where the bartender was busy and it required a wait to get her attention. I knew what I wanted, ordered and paid and went to the side to wait. My food bag wasn't brought to me as it has been other times but was placed on the bar and the bartended called across the bar that my takeout was ready. read more
