I came in as agency staff (CNA), ready to work and treat residents with the respect they deserve, but instead of being welcomed, I was targeted. One particular med aide went out of her way to provoke me throughout my shift, nitpicking and creating issues where there were none. She eventually ran to the DON with a completely false accusation about my attitude, even though I followed every instruction she gave and made sure residents were well cared for. Her behavior was unprofessional, unwarranted, and ultimately reflected more on her than on me. Before I left, I still toileted the residents who needed care because at the end of the day, they are the reason I show up. I also spoke with my agency and another CNA, and both confirmed I wasn't the first person this had happened to. What got to me wasn't the workload--it was being disrespected for doing my job right. That kind of energy says a lot about the toxic culture there, and unfortunately, it's the residents who suffer most, like being left in soiled clothing for hours and completely ignored. There are a few kind and hardworking staff members there, but the lack of teamwork, compassion, and accountability overshadows the good. Families deserve to know that a nice building means nothing without safe, respectful care behind it.

My journey started over three years ago when I decided to consider moving to an independent living facility. After visiting several of the communities here in Lincoln, I selected The Landing, put my name on their list and waited for a call. Bridge to Better Living never just left it at that, I received phone calls, cards and invitations to functions. They always were there along with The Landing's communications. I never felt forgotten!! Now that I've moved in, I want to express my gratitude to Mary Ann, Kristine and the Team for all they did to help with the entire process. If you are looking for yourself or a loved one do not hesitate to call them, you won't be disappointed. Pam R.

We'd heard that many desirable communities have long waitlists and were advised to start looking one to two years in advance. But where do you begin? We were fortunate to discover Bridge to Better Living, a senior transition consulting service serving the Lincoln and Omaha areas. Bridge to Better Living doesn't charge clients; instead, they're compensated by the senior retirement community if a placement occurs. Importantly, they don't "sell" you on any location--they listen. Bridge to Better Living took the time to understand our social, physical, medical, and financial needs, then recommended senior living communities that aligned with our goals. We chose which ones to visit, and our consultant arranged tours at times that worked for us--accompanying us every step of the way. We toured four communities and narrowed it down to two. When we struggled to decide, our consultant suggested we share a meal with a couple living at each location to get more of a sense of daily life. She arranged those visits , too--again, with no pressure, just support. Thanks to Bridge to Better Living, we made a confident, informed decision and couldn't be happier. If you or a loved one are considering moving to a senior living facility, meeting with Bridge to Better Living is a must. Their team is compassionate, knowledgeable, and truly invested in helping you find the right fit. Along the way, we met so many wonderful staff. The person that we saw most often was Jodi who arranged and accompanied us on most of our visits. She was responsive, insightful, and always just a quick text away. We also learned that some younger senior citizens choose a senior living community over downsizing to a smaller home. The financial comparison can be eye-opening--and Bridge to Better Living can help you evaluate those costs (i.e. no more home insurance, HOA fees, taxes associated with your home, utilities, trash removal, housekeeping services, etc.)

Those folks were, and I assume, still are the cream of the crop for care giving. However, this review is about the Independent Living communications! On Saturday August 15, 2020 my air conditioner failed at 8:00 p.m. I called the Concierge. I was expecting it would be Sunday before anyone came to look and/or repair the A/C this this was a weekend and not a normal workday. Within 15 minutes the Concierge had contacted the Director of Environmental Services and informed me the Contractor for A/C would be arriving within the hour. By 9:00 p.m. the Contractor was at my door. At 10:00 p.m or two hours after the first phone call to the Concierge, the A/C was working. On Monday morning I was able to personally thank the Director of Environment Services and passed a well done to the Concierge. This is normal for Environmental Services! Advance the clock until today, August 18 at 3:15 p.m. the A/C failed again. I walked to the Concierge to report the outage and explained what had happened on Saturday night. I did mention the Concierge Saturday night did call the Director of Environment Services. This being a normal work day and during normal work day I did ask him to put in a work order which is normal procedure. At 6:45 p.m. once my unit hit 80 degrees, I walked to the same Concierge and asked what the Director of Environmental Service said. I was told he, the Concierge had not called him since the Director reads all work order prior to leaving. I asked the Concierge if he planned to call the Director. No, he will read the work order. It is now 7:50 p.m. and 81 degrees. It would appear the Concierge was not able to follow up on my request. Very disappointed. This is not normal customer service from the Hillcrest Grand Lodge Independent Living; however is becoming a pattern for this Concierge. I do still think the Grand Lodge is a wonderful place; however, it might be helpful if key meet and greet persons are trained to a "standardization" level.

(I always felt like the truly helpful staff members were doing their best to make up for the staff members who were consistently less than helpful, notably the maintenance staff, the surly receptionist, and the operations director.) If you're in an apartment that's been renovated, you may enjoy living here. However if you're in an apartment that has NOT been renovated, go somewhere else. The prices are the same for the renovated apartments -- prices that predictably increase every year -- and the incompetent staff won't permanently fix anything that's broken in the non-renovated apartments, for example, a perpetually leaky faucet; a stained ceramic sink; a perpetually broken disposal; a refrigerator that produced no ice; and cheap vertical blinds that also often broke. These were all very basic things that greatly would have improved my parents' quality of life, but Elk Ridge refused to replace these items which, in the grand scheme of things, are relatively inexpensive. In the winter, they also inexplicably do not put down salt on the sidewalks -- it's Nebraska in winter...Putting down salt should be a daily SOP. While walking, I slipped and fell straight down on my shins and kneecaps -- several witnesses, thankfully, and thankfully I only sustained severe bruising that lasted ~three weeks. Elk Ridge is lucky I didn't break anything; I would have sued, no question. One of the residents told me she moved in, in circa 2019, and has watched the quality and level service decrease steadily, which is unfortunate. I got the sense she was strongly considering moving. Overall, I would not recommend. Live there at your own peril.

There were many vulnerable residents that came down with covid following this event. They have no regard for the people they are responsible for. Preceding the covid, there was general neglect and lack of care. The manager and head nurse are the most ineffective and do not give a crap about your family members, which is obvious since they can't be bothered to reach out when someone under their care passes away. Also if you actually read the positive reviews- you'll see a theme in that a vast majority are from people who work there or visit but don't actually have a family member living at The Knolls. Every time they get a negative review they probably ask their staff to make a positive one.

For the money senior clients pay to live there, they should do MUCH better with their food service as it is the highlight of many senior's day And should be healthy. My advice... look past the sales pitch & slick brochure!…read more Our mom has lived at Clark Jeary for the past few years and up until recently we would have rated it very highly. However they are now owned by a new company and many of the kind and caring staff have moved on to other places. Sadly, it has become all about the money. When our mom moved there, they promised that they were fully capable of taking care of her as she progressed through all of the stages of memory loss to the end of her life. This appealed to us because we wouldn't have to move her, which can be unsettling for her. But this was NOT the case, once the alzheimer's started progressing they suggested we move her into the memory care (which we did) for an extra $2500 per month to cover the additional care she was supposed to receive. But they would let her miss breakfast and sleep until almost noon, then they wanted permission to medicate her to make her more docile... Really?!? So their idea of giving her added care is turning her into a vegetable and parking her in the corner?! When we said no thanks to the medication, they asked her to move to a new facility. What happened to all of the promises of crafts, activities, and added memory care TLC? They all dissipated with the new ownership. Personally I am glad we are moving her, this has been most distressing. Hopefully, now she will get the care and attention she deserves. And no, drugging her is NOT the answer. They should be doing what is best for her... not easiest for them.
