I have been going here frequently on Fridays for lunch for about 8 years. I like to treat myself at the end of the week. I call ahead and place a to-go order and I ask for hot sauce and teriyaki sauce to add to my meal. The owner (woman) gives me half full miniature cup to take with me. I politely ask for the squeeze bottles because i would like a little more. She reluctantly hands over the bottles and gauges how much I add to my to-go container. This time I asked for the hot sauce--the small containers--and she said, "No hot sauce." I said, "Excuse me?" Then she handed me the tiny container, and the cook (her husband) came out with his hands on his hips. I have never been surprised by rage in my life. It just swept over me. A couple of guys were dining in and overheard that I wanted to use the hot sauce. They had a bottle on their table and handed it to me. I thanked them, used it, and then gave it back. "The lady looked furious so did her husband. I told them that I would never be coming back and that I would prefer to drive 5 more minutes and eat at Oishi Teriyaki in Bakerview Square. I cannot count how many times I have eaten here and bought lunch for my crew at work. Seeing that they are trying to save every penny possible makes me wonder how else they are cutting costs. I also don't go out of my way to write poor reviews, but I felt that this needed to be shared. If I had dined in the price would have been the same. My mom and I picked up food here and the food was a good portion and was very good. The lady working was sweet and gave us a lot of extra sauces and cookies. Weird that she didn't want to give someone else hot sauce. Maybe there was a misunderstanding? I had a good experience eating here. read more

Met with a couple of friends here today for a birthday (the birthday girl's choice). Even though I have driven past hundreds of times, I had never been here. It's a pretty small place .. we staked out a table and then went to order and pay for our food. One friend had gyoza, one had teriyaki chicken which came with salad and rice. I decided that the time had come to try Pho. I ordered mine with tofu and veggie broth. So I think Pho is gonna be my new go-to! It's pretty tasty stuff and the bowl was huge and never ending! Even I could not finish it (and we sat there for over 2 hours). It came with mint leaves, bean sprouts and green peppers to add in to the already flavorful broth, noodles, tofu and scallions. The food was brought to the table. The servers were gracious and kind. This is not a fancy place but it is very comfortable and cozy. There is street parking (no meters or signs posted). If I worked or lived near, I would probably be in here frequently! Almost forgot to mention, they have quite a large selection of sushi! My friend who chose this place says she usually orders that! A California Roll was $10 and a caterpillar roll was $16 and both were also not bad but not that great, not worth the price. The sushi was good. I got 2 rolls to go. My only real complaint was that they were small for the price. I paid 31.00 for 2 rolls and I just felt like that was a little too much. They were good and the fish was fresh. I enjoyed eating them. The waitress was friendly and got my order together as soon as I got there. This is solid local Asian - whether for lunch or simple takeout dinner. It's not a great date spot - but um this Ferndale - not exactly the romantic Mediterranean. When I get sick, chicken Pho is my goto and this one did not disappoint. It tasted good and warmed me up. It needs more veggies options like broccoli but I'll just ask for it. 15 bucks after tip for essentially rice noodles, a little chicken and broth seems high but it's close so I'll keep getting it. Also everything is high right now bc of inflation Service was friendly...and um pretty. I'm not fond of Asian restaurants that try to squeeze multiple Asians into one. The flavors really are as different as um the appearance. But they did a decent job as I got Chicken Yakisoba. That's got mixed reviews. First time, pretty flavorful and good portion size 2nd time, the chicken was WAY overcooked and hard. Rice and everything was greasy. I took a picture of the oil left after I ate it. Yikes! I'll try it one more time but if it's like that, I'll stick with pho. I'll check out the sushi next but it looks average. We've been missing good local teriyaki and sushi for ever. The restaurant is very clean and has indoor seating as well as takeout. The menu is extensive and features teriyaki, sushi, stirfry, yakisoba and pho. I tried the chicken teriyaki & gyoza combo. It came with rice and salad. So I've only gone here twice, once for dining in and once for takeout. Dining and was great, there wasn't a whole lot of service, but they were friendly. They didn't really come by to ask how the food was. They kind of just welcome you in take your order give you your food and then they might say goodbye to you if you say goodbye to them when you leave and say thank you, but they don't really check on you at all which is fine, I just thought I'd mention that. Their stuff was a bit pricier than I would have liked as the other places I go to aren't as pricey as they are. They aren't really expensive, but I feel like you're paying a lot for their sushi compared to going to a sushi place and getting around twice as much for the same price. I got the spider roll, it was really good and it was a good size, but I don't like how much I had to pay for it. The other thing I ordered was the beef yakisoba which if I remember correctly, was around $18 which again is a little pricey, but once they gave me my plate, I felt better about the price seeing how large of a portion there was. It was worth around two or three meals for me and I like to take home leftovers so that was great, and it reheated very nicely. When I called to order ahead for takeout, I ordered the same exact thing the spider roll and beef yakisoba, the spider roll, tasted kind of bland, the same thing with the yakisoba. It just didn't taste like it had as much flavor, and I only had like a 10 minute drive home and I got there before it was even done so it wasn't sitting out or anything. So I don't think I will order or get any takeout from there cause it just doesn't taste as good. Dining in is better for this place. So the overall price for my friend and I was about $60 for a chicken teriyaki, beef yakisoba, a spider roll, and gyoza. The place is kind of small, but there is some seating. They have plants around, which was nice. Overall, I liked to dine in there, the food was great, and I got lots of leftovers that heated up very well, but my take out experience really wasn't that good and it's kind of pricey. We went for our first time today and the food was great! I got the crunch roll and the spider roll and both were delicious. My boyfriend got the sweet and sour chicken combo and he also enjoyed his meal, we also go the gyoza which was crispy and delicious. Zero complaints about the food, only good things to say there! It's a new restaurant (and only like it in Ferndale!) so you have to give some grace but it was a bit chaotic when we showed up for lunch today. It's unclear if you need to order before you sit or if that's just the take out line... I think it was both? Once we sat down I heard another couple times people also asking what they were supposed to do / how to order. A sign stating to either seat yourself or come to the counter to order would be super helpful. I could see someone just wanting to pickup an order getting pretty frustrated. Also once order was placed nobody asked for a name of gave a table number, when any order came out someone just yelled out the single item from your order and waited for someone to say it was theirs. Yes!! I have been waiting for Ferndale to get a sushi place and we finally got one. I'm so happy!!! Cute little place right on main street They also have teriyaki, yakisoba, fried rice etc. And pho. We just got lunch to go. I got the dragon roll one of my favorites it was really good. I decided to try pho for the first time ever. Got the meatball one. It was good, but I wouldn't go outta my way to order it. Nothing against the food that is just me I'm more of a ramen girl. Teriyaki chicken was good too, my mom ordered that. Comes with rice and salad. I would just ask for extra or a side of teriyaki sauce with it. Didn't have much on it. I will be here many times in the future for sushi though. Yum!! Maybe they will add bubble tea to the menu someday, that would be awesome. read more

I enjoyed my Spicy Chicken teriyaki (although, it seems a little pricey for what you get.. it looks like a lunch combo) they just spread the spicy sauce on top of the chicken. I asked for extra rice, no salad. The veggie fried rice, was not that great. I got it for my son who is vegetarian. It looks and taste bitter I was expecting some sort of flavor but I had to add some sauce once I got home. I'll be going again, definitely trying something else. The Yakisoba was extremely good the first time, but last couple of times it's been decent...but not to the level it was. I DO NOT recommend their "fried rice" though....I ordered the Chicken Fried Rice. I'm so happy this is here in Ferndale! The beef and catsu are very yummy! The sauce for the catsu isn't the normal sauce, but I really liked it!!! The salad dressing is my favorite. This is only the third teriyaki place that has had that particular dressing. The yakisoba is a little bland and dry, but despite that still good! Walked in to a line full of customers. Which was a good sign. So I thought. The establishment is very cute and inviting, but small. The menu looked easy to understand and straightforward. There was no price for drinks. When we ordered while we were in line, and not at the register, we said the item numbers and employee asked, "Oh what is that?" which was odd, but I know they just opened a week ago, so ok. Then we get up to pay, and they take our order like we had not ordered yet...weird. So we tell them again our order and the owner is sitting there on a chair, helping her, which was nice in a sense in another sense I think he should have worked the register and let the ladies that were working do the sorting of to go and to dine in of the orders. So then the owner finishes helping us, and the total comes to 73.00!!! for 3 items! Way too much money. Like idiots we tip 10.00 because you have to tip a head of time, and I thought, well its a new restaurant, give them some time, some encouragement. So we go to sit down, and it is a very tight space for 3 people. As we are sitting there, order after order is wrong. People are constantly walking up asking about their order, asking where this or that is. And a man was waiting for a while for his food only to be told that they are out of what he ordered. So I start thinking this is way too much something must be wrong, so I go up to the waitress, and she was very kind. And I said, I think there was a mistake, this seems very high. The prices were not on the receipt so I could not check, but I only order 2 cokes, and it said 3, and a rice, which was a large order of rice and we did not order the large, we had a small. So I told her this and the waitress just says, "oh well I don't know what to do " and she said, "do you want another coke." lol So weird, so then I go up again, and this was just a 5 min wait, and the owner says, "oh here is your order, but it is all in to go boxes, and one dish is on a dine in plate. They all get very confused, and I say, "well yes, we were supposed to dine in, that is why it's on a plate." They are understand, and say we will bring it to you. And then the owner yells to the cooks, in a joking way, "If you guys don't hurry your all fired!" and then he laughs, and I'm thinking, really dude, you have angry customers, and you are not caring at all. So that was very frustrating. He needs to do more. So then we get our food, and it is a TINY amount. small rice mound and 7 tiny prawns that were suppose to be tempura, but they are not, they are dipped in bread crumbs. So that was not good. Then I realized they did not give me or my son our salad. So I had to go up again, and ask. They said, "oh yes, 4 salads right?" and I say, "no, just 2." so then the employee hands me a tiny styrofoam container with the salad, and the owner says, "no in a dish" so then this guy follows me to my table and I eat some of this "salad" which was very much just iceberg lettuce and a small amount of dressing. My husband liked the fried rice , so that was the only good part. So it was very underwhelming and I would like my money back. If the owner addresses this problem I will update my review. We wanted to like this restaurant but nothing helped us feel that way. Walking in, we immediately saw a washing machine (for clothes) with a couple plants. There were dishes from previous diners on one table. No one else except the waitress and cook were there. It felt like a cluttered, thrown-together place. We ordered and sat down. When our food arrived it was all drowning in what looked like bottled sauces. I had chicken and prawns that came with "salad" and rice. The prawns had not been deveined (gross), were overcooked and covered with sickening sweet sauce. The chicken did not taste freshly cooked and was also overcooked. My husband had chicken and beef. His protein was also fully covered with the same sauce that was not made in house. Just before we left the waitress finally cleared the dishes that were there when we walked in but didn't ever wipe off the table. It has the feeling of a place where no one cares.
