Don't fret- there is a salad and hot bar to kill time with :) otherwise it's good quality for the price. I wasn't fond of the shabushabu so much - sukiyaki broth is exactly that sweet broth or the other is a tonkatsu broth so maybe savory. Still great for the price. First time in today at lunchtime. I had high hopes after driving by several times. I'm good with the whole ordering concept and using a tablet to select my food. The problem was... The food. As it started out of the kitchen in individual orders, like tapas, the first thing I noticed were the small portion sizes. Okay, it's all you can eat, so no big deal. But the quality was so poor I tasted several of the dishes and discarded them. Fried California roll, fried chicken, not edible. The beef was all stringy, fibrous, gristle, not fit to eat. I finally found Gyoza on the food bar and filled up on those. I am really dissapointed... The quality is so low but I like the concept. If they can bring the quality of the food up by several hundred percent, I might come back. Don't waste your money on food that isn't edible. read more

I love this place the price is right i personally go for lunch, its all you can eat and everything is made fresh. You get a choice of silver menu for a bit less which is a limited but still generous menu, or gold which is the whole menu and well worth it. You order either via phone or through a tablet your can request from the hostess. You can order 15 items to the table every 15 minutes and there's a hot bar, salad and desert bar if you need to grab something in between. The staff is always friendly and very accommodating i both have a very small stomach and I'm gluten free and they do an amazing job when i request small portions so i can try a bit of everything and are very careful to make sure my meals are gluten free. This place has plenty to choose from. We did the Gold all you can eat for $30. Plenty of basic sushi offerings. All were decent and tasty. Fish was cold and fresh. The had rolls were good and I liked the presentation, like a taco. They have a variety of choices at the food bar as well, hot and cold, salads and dessert. Your wasabi and ginger will be found there as well. I believe this is an old Shari's restaurant they have retrofit, seems to work though. The ambiance is loud and very busy. Two delivery robots as well so keep a lookout. Overall the service was very friendly, the staff is efficient, seem to be happy and quick to answer questions. I wouldn't classify this as amazing, but it was really good and for a good deal for what you get. If you don't want sushi there are many other items to choose from, soups bowls, noodles, steak and more. Go and check it out, it is definitely worth it. read more

I took my family today and was told they have added a 12% service charge, that I was told is not a gratuity, but goes to the restaurant. I guess that means service is an extra that should not be expected, but since you are receiving it you have to pay an extra charge? I would simply say, if you need to charge more to stay in business, raise your prices accordingly, don't tack on a service charge. My kids (who were the ones who wanted to go) both said it sounded sketchy and they wanted to leave. If they drop that charge we will come back, until then, I'm afraid not. read more

First time going to Sumo and took my 19 yo grandson who loves sushi. Recently remodeled Shari's location seems a bit odd for a sushi place but they use the space well. It was bright and clean. The premise is it's AYCE with two pricing levels: the Silver and the Gold. Silver is cheaper than Gold and thus a smaller, less exorbitant menu. We chose the Gold for our first experience. Lunch pricing is lower than dinner pricing. Our Gold lunch price was $19.99 per person. There are Rules for the AYCE such as you can only stay at the table a total of 90 minutes, you can only order 15 items every 15 minutes and, the kicker, any food remaining uneaten at the end of your meal is charged for at the rate of $12.95 per pound. There are QR Codes on the end of the table. Only one person opens the menu and then orders for the whole table. The menu consists of Apps, Soups, Rolls, Specialties, etc on the lunch menu. I've read the dinner menu is even more diverse and more expensive. We scanned the menu and the grandson placed our order. Submitting the order starts the 15 minute time clock for your next order. Nothing can be ordered for 15 minutes. While we waited we walked over to the buffet area which has a few appetizers, soups, salads, sauces and chose a couple items to munch on while we waited for our sushi to arrive. The gyoza and some small fried shrimp were dry and chewy from being in the warmer way too long. However the teriyaki chicken skewers were delightfully tender and very tasty. Soon, the noodles my grandson ordered were delivered by a server. He said they were decent. A short time later the remainder of our order arrive, carried by a small robot we'd seen earlier. I "said" something and then turned so our food was facing our table so we could remove it. It then scurried away. Interesting concept. As the restaurant got busier we noticed several robots working in addition to to several servers. The kitchen area, where I saw 3-4 people working was behind the buffet. The sushi itself was very good. Unlike other sushi restaurants, where you order an entire roll consisting of 8 pieces, here you get a small plate with four pieces. That is a good thing for those that want to try multiple items. We both agreed that the salmon, avocado, cream cheese roll was an excellent choice. They don't skimp on the salmon which was tasty and fresh. Other favorites included the Walla Walla roll, a spicy tuna roll and don't pass on their tempura shrimp - perfectly cooked although oddly shaped. Still VERY GOOD. Servers circulated the room removing the small plates as they were emptied. We reordered once and liked pretty much everything we chose. Some more, some less. But the quality of the food is equal or better than any "belt sushi" joint I've ever been. Total for our meal was $50 with tax and tip. We only drank water. So, it's a bit on the expensive side from my point of view as I am eating less these days but I can see it being a really good value for my grandson and a bunch of his college aged buddies that love sushi. At the local belt sushi joint in town I generally spend $15 or less for lunch so this was a bit more. The experience was worth it and I might come back occasionally, only because I just can't eat enough to justify the AYCE price for lunch. All in all it was a good experience. read more

Very open and bright space unless you're being chased by a robot! Everyone we saw was very nice and helpful except that maybe not enough attention was paid. We went as a group of 4 and were sat immediately. A server came up to take our drink orders: Dr Pepper, Sprite, Pepsi and water. We never got the Dr Pepper but did get two sprites before the server disappeared. The food was good. The buffet had some great choices and the menu was plentiful! We only ordered twice but both times our table was full! Our two least favorite items were the short ribs and grilled beef because both were a bit overcooked and chewy but the sauces were very good. Took the family for lunch, we got the gold lunch AYCE the restaurant is spacious and clean, ordering is done via the app make sure to sign into the WiFi, the majority of our orders were delivered by a robot which is kinda cool but a bit of a hassle cause the robot backs up to the table, then you have to hit done on the screen on the front which means you have to stand up and release the robot, the sushi was pretty good! The fish was fresh and the ayce included chicken beef sushi ramen and sukiyaki . Everyone enjoyed the meal and we will come back for sure definitely going to replace the four seasons buffet for us read more

Happy that they opened a sumo on this side of Washington. They do have the robot servers like the Kent location. Service is good when it's not too busy at the moment (Just because they just opened up not too long ago) Sashimi, sushi rolls and other food were good. (Sampled eight plates.) The smaller plates (portions) allowed me to sample many items. The fried squid was overcooked but that happens sometimes--still tasty. Enjoyed the fresh green salad and dressing at the buffet bar. No room to taste desserts (but was encouraged to do so.) Japanese melon soda was a treat. I will be back to try a few more. read more

We had tried their Seattle location before and were excited to see they had opened an all-you-can-eat restaurant in Burlington, so we decided to give it a try. We went with the lunch Gold Tier and noticed the price had increased from the $19.95 listed on Google to $23.95 per person. While the increase was acceptable, it would be helpful if their online information were kept more up to date. We arrived on a Monday afternoon and found the ordering system a bit confusing--the server didn't explain that orders could only be placed every 15 minutes, so we initially ordered just one sushi roll and ended up waiting for the next ordering window. A quick explanation upfront would have made the experience smoother. The hot bar was also somewhat disappointing, with many trays sitting nearly empty and not being refilled very frequently. On the positive side, everything we ordered was freshly made and served in smaller portions, which made it easy to sample a variety of dishes. Most items were decent, though the grilled beef was particularly disappointing--it was extremely chewy and lacked the texture you'd expect from beef. Service was otherwise friendly, but overall the experience didn't quite live up to expectations. Since we'll be moving back to Seattle soon, this will likely be a one-time visit for us. read more

Honestly, I had my doubts going into this Sumo All You Can Eat (AYCE) Sushi restaurant. Timed orders, time limit, robots, charges for food you don't eat, etc. I was wrong. First of all, almost everyone on the staff was pleasant and friendly, even on a Friday night. Our party of 5 paid for the Gold dinner option ($33?). The Silver option was like $7 less, but you couldn't order the grilled steak or sashimi with the Silver deal. We opted for Gold, but in hindsight, we should have gone with the Silver. My biggest concern was removed after our first order was delivered - the rolls were 4 pieces of sushi. Perfect! I've only been to 1 AYCE sushi restaurant, and when I ordered a roll, I got the full 8 pieces. Eight pieces at a time doesn't let you try a lot of variety - you're gonna fill up after a couple rolls. But with 4-piece rolls, I was able to try a lot of their different rolls. They also have a buffet line, which was great while you waited for your first order to reach the table. I can't remember everything they had, but there was peel n eat (black pepper?) shrimp, baked mussels and chicken skewers for certain. Your table places on order using cell phones and a QR code. You can order 15 items at a time for the TABLE. Then, you can't order again for another 15 minutes. It sounds like a lot of rules, but it worked out well. We had plenty of food in those 15-minute intervals. Everyone enjoyed most of their food. There were one or two items that weren't great, but in general, we were impressed with the sushi. The robot servers probably run a lot more smoothly during slower, non-peak times when staffing might be lacking. In the 90 minutes we were there, I honestly think a robot only made it to our table 1 time. The rest of the time, human servers - most of whom were really friendly - brought out our food items. I will definitely be back the next time I'm up in Skagit County. Having lived in the area for some time, I remember the sushi options being limited and overpriced. Ambiance? The staff at Sumo were kind, but insanely busy, so they didn't really have time to answer questions or do much other than drop off plates. The food was good with the exception of the couple beef dishes I ordered. They used VERY fatty\gristly beef. They *would* have tasted good (the seasonings were fine) but the beef itself was gross. Also, they DRASTICALLY misrepresent the amount of rice they give you in the various bowl dishes. The menu pictures show a little bit of rice with a good sized helping of chicken, pork etc. They deliver nearly a full bowl of rice with a little meat on top. At $13 a pound for uneaten food that's pretty lame. All in all I feel like I ate enough to get a decent value, but I'd rather just go to a traditional sushi restaurant and order off a menu. At Sumo there's almost a pressure to make sure you order enough to get your money's worth, but you do NOT want to leave food on your plate. The price of sushi for my wife and me is roughly $65 at another local sushi spot. At Sumo their gold dinner menu on Saturday was $32 and change for each person. It's roughly the same price and if we order too much at our usual spot we can just take it home and eat it later...we're not charged $13 a pound for it. read more

Great service, great food! My wife enjoyed the chicken which was really juicy and flavorful. I primarily ate their sushi and it was phenomenal! The grilled shrimp was excellent. The avocados were very creamy and fresh. The ambiance is wonderful and well designed. They are big on encouraging you to not leave behind food waste and you are expected to take home what you don't eat and will charge a per pound fee for the extra food. Love this! The lunch prices are great and you definitely get your value from it. Possibly even more. Will absolutely return for dinner one of these days which has a slightly different menu. Human staff are super polite and great. They were on top of everything. You can request a tablet for ordering food but can also use your own smartphone by scanning the QR code at your table. There is free wi-fi on sight. Yes, there are robot waiters and they are interesting to watch. They are really good at avoiding people and usually announce "I'm almost there" as they are on their way to a table. Once the robot is at your table, it turns around to reveal your food and waits for a bit after you take it. I have seen the robot deliver food to a table where the guests were away, getting food from the buffet. Staff member came by, placed the food on the table, then sent the bot on it's merry way. I only saw one collision but it was also really sudden, quick movement from the human's part (their back was towards the incoming bot). You order with 1 phone by scanning the QR code, and a robot comes out. If you place an order you have to wait 15 before you can order again. The serving sizes are small. They are good and looked freshly cooked but it took awhile. By the end it took so long for the food we were approaching the 90 min max. Take away the rules, which in my opinion is unnecessary, I would give a higher rating but there are other buffet's just as good without the time pressure and the threat of charging by the pound if you don't eat all your food. Overall it wasn't relaxing there. It was expensive. I hope they change up their approach for fear of another business going under. read more

The menu lists the items available and there is a general buffet section for appetizer type stuff. When you sit down the server explains the rules. There is a QR code and you use one phone or a provided tablet to scan. The menu options come up according to what you buy gold or silver. There are rules. You can order 15 items every 15 minutes. There is a 90 minute cap on how long you can occupy the table. It's all written out. You choose what you want and add to cart then submit when it's complete. They also tell you any uneaten food you will be charged $12.95 per pound extra. Most of your order comes via robot which caught me off guard but it was okay. They offer all types of sushi. Sashimi, Nigiri, and rolls. Most places you get 6-8 pieces in a roll. Here it's four but the a rolls are also smaller around. There are also small plates of meat and. Chicken. The menu is quite varied. Everything comes in small plates. We got a crispy scallop roll and the scallops were so overcooked it was like rubber. Leave those scallops raw and would have been much better. The food was decent but there are better sushi options around. With tip (they try to sneak in a 15%'r) it was close to $85 for the Gold dinner x2. We did NOT eat $85 worth of food that's for sure. Well on my 5th visit, I think I'm done. Went opening week here in Burlington Everything was great. Food, Serice and Quaility. Went again the following week with another group. (Btw ask for the Tablet vs your cell, much easier to order.) Again everything was GREAT like 5 stars great. Fast forward a few weeks take someone else for the experience. This time the people are great, but the food not Great. Okay cooks having off day. At $30 a person i hope for great, even at a buffett. Last time was mediocre.
