It isn't that close to Downtown, but you can take the tube at Aldgate East which takes you to the city centre. The hotel is clean and the staff mostly friendly. However, we didn't like the bathroom, it was to small! With 3 ladies and everybody has to get dressed this wasn't so much fun. Furthermore, the hotel is located directly on a street, which is noisy also in the night. I had to sleep with my earplugs because even if the window was closed, the room was still noisy! That was very unpleasant! Nevertheless, I would recommend the hotel because it wasn't that expensive and you can be Downtown in a short time. Don't expect luxury, after all it's a 3-star hotel. If you don't stay that much in your hotel room and just come here to sleep, you will like this hotel!

Our disappointment began when we checked in and were informed that our room was not ready, despite our exhaustion from the journey. While waiting in the lobby, we found the lack of air conditioning uncomfortable, and the restricted airflow due to the windows being fixed in place made the situation worse. We found out the whole facility do not have AC and even the small fan provided was insufficient to alleviate the heat. Furthermore, the cramped hallways, minimal amenities, and low water pressure in the shower added to our discomfort. The noise from the windows rattling in the wind made it challenging to get a restful night's sleep. The issues with ice availability and inconsistent information from your staff regarding this matter only added to our frustration. Then only reason got 2 stars because of the night crew in the lobby. Thank you for the ice you provided us that night although the lady during breakfast said there's no ice because the machine been broken although night shift gave us some 4 hours ago. Regrettably, due to the unpleasant conditions and unsatisfactory service experienced during our first night, we made the decision to cut our stay short and relocate to another hotel. While the affordability of Phoenix Hotel is commendable and great location and close to everything , the overall quality of the facilities and services leaves much to be desired.

If you've ever wondered what it might be like to sleep on a set of Star Trek in an incredibly small, utilitarian room with a capsule shower, look no further. But when that tiny room is cheap, and has lots of hot water (no problems with ours, although that might depend on the room's location in terms of which floor), and is near the Underground, and the bed actually afforded us our first great night's sleep in many days, it felt worth it. Plus, if you're a runner, Hyde Park is not too far, and it's lovely. Just be ready to pay extra for everything. The wi-fi is not free (you can pay £1 for 20 minutes on their computers, or £10 for twenty-four hours on your laptop), the remote is not free, extra towels beyond the number of occupants is not free, early or late check-in is not free, and so on. Yet when you're visiting London, you hopefully don't spend much time in your room anyway (although it's worth it to spring for a room with a window, since they are so small and no reminder of the outside world might feel, well, a bit prison-like). Our small room had enough space to walk in, move about three feet forward, and collapse onto the bed. Literally. Don't expect to store anything elsewhere than on the floor or under the bed. The bathroom? As my man said, you could take a s**t, a shower, and brush your teeth all at the same time. Don't expect romance. But do expect to save enough on your lodging that you can spring for several tapas courses at Dehesa in Soho, which is a whole 'nother story....

Earl's Court is a cool little area to boot so if you have a chance wander around the area a bit. If you're not in London for more than a couple nights you can live with this. Im a firm believer when travelling for pleasure on a budget you're not going to be in the hotel room that much at all, so you don't need to have all the trimmings. I still paid close to $350 U.S. for a triple room and all I can say is "welcome to London!" It's an expensive city no doubt, and I think the root of all the awful reviews is that people are basically getting a Motel 6 at Ritz Carlton prices. The Comfort Inn is in a safe and good location. I wouldn't have felt afraid to stay here alone if I had been traveling by myself or with a group of women. It's about a 5 minute walk to the back entrance of Victoria Station, one of the main railway stations in town (you can catch the Gatwick Express train directly to the airport or hop on the Tube / London Underground to explore the city or get to Heathrow). There's a decent pub down on the corner too. We were traveling in a group of 3 adults so we booked the triple room. Of course the room was cramped but we still had enough space to move about without constantly bumping into each other. The room had a double and one twin bed. The beds were reasonably comfortable and the bedding smelled and felt clean. The common areas suggest the guest rooms are much nicer than they are. I liked the homey lobby and the cute British-themed signage in the hallways. Our room was clean enough but didn't exactly feel spotless. The bathroom was clean but had some signs of mold and was in a state of slight disrepair (duct tape on a pipe, dirty grout, rust everywhere). I wouldn't go so far as to call the bathroom nasty, but it was certainly bordering on that description. It reminded me of the showers at summer camp when I was a kid. Let me make this clear: this is a budget hotel, no doubt about that. Don't go expecting U.S. Comfort Inn standards or a property that lives up to its expensive price tag and you'll be fine. It's no frills but it'll get the job done in a pinch. Let me stress that I stayed for only ONE NIGHT. I may have felt differently about this property if I had booked it for the duration of my trip. It is conveniently located next to Hendon station with brilliant restaurants and pubs across the street. The room itself had complimentary drinks and on our last night they provided a bottle of very decent champagne on the house for our room. Room service was excellent and they catered to our every need. We unfortunately did not have a chance to try their breakfast or bar, which they have both in the hotel. All in all we were very pleasantly surprised at how nice the room, service, and area was and if we come back to London will be choosing this hotel again without a second thought.
