We have a very good experience at Oyster and Chop! We sat outside and the weather was perfect and the view of the Harbour was pretty! We got the fish of the day (tuna), the filet, salad and Mac and cheese and everything was good!
My wife and I were on vacation to Auckland and we took a dolphin and whale safari, where we saw a whale and over 400 dolphins. We entered Oyster and Chop for some happy hour oysters, I ordered twenty. I ordered a nice pale ale bottle, but they didn't have any good happy hour draft beers? Weird! They came in two large trays, with just balsamic vinegar, but unlike the States, no horseradish sauce or cocktail sauce. Boo. I ordered another beer to help with the mediocre oysters. No salty brine flavor at all.
$2 happy hour oysters were great! Ambience on the water was beautiful. Service was ok. Hair in my drink took 20 mins to replace. To be fair, they were very busy. Calamari and fish were good. Burrata was excellent!
We thought the food was delicious. Well presented. Elliott our server was excellent at suggesting. The Pinot noir was also a great choice. Service was great. The ambience is a nice dining experience but almost bar like on the harbor. Beautiful views. People waiting to get in. Great first night in Auckland.
We had heard such great reviews and high regards for the restaurant so we made a reservation. Unfortunately, our expectations fell short as the food wasn't as fresh or tasty as it could have been. The steak tartare tasted gamey and the proportions were off, but the beer battered oysters were fantastic. Nice, light, and great batter, but the sauce was plain. Personally, my cocktail smelled like the aftertaste of dishwasher grease, it was good but the glass itself could have smelled better. We also got a steak and lamb entree. The dry aged steak was over cooked and chewy, but the lamb was perfectly cooked and medium rare (but it seems like no one in NZ messes up their lamb). The mac and cheese wasn't cheesy, just creamy. This was the only restaurant throughout our entire trip where we thought it was average. If we had known, we would have saved our stomach space for another restaurant.
Wasn't super hungry so we opted for small bites and sharing an entree. The bartender was fantastic, but unfortunately our server not so much. The salmon was absolutely fantastic! Crudo was good- unique but personally not a highlight on the flavor profile spectrum for me. The oysters were cleanly shucked and quality was good. The view from this restaurant is great! Definitely a wonderful spot for drinks with friends and a romantic dinner!
Nearly perfect! A great choice for any oysters as the name implies. My Bluff oysters, au natural, were lovely and nicely presented. Lots of lovely seating, some seats better than others depending on the weather. My King salmon main was exquisite and perfectly cooked. The service is leisurely maybe too much for my American patience, but friendly and helpful.
This plais a must if visiting Auckland. Oysters were amazing. Fish was fresh and cooked perfectly. Steak was one of the best mu brother in law has had, so he said. Looked great

This was our first meal in New Zealand on our last trip, though I've eaten here before. After dropping our bags at the hotel, we stopped here for brunch before heading out to hike Rangitoto. We enjoyed a lovely Benedict, salmon with miso, and tea service. Service was attentive and friendly. It perfectly set the tone for our day and entire trip.
Such a great seafood dining experience! My family and I were easily overwhelmed of how many restaurants were in the area and we stumbled upon this beautiful looking restaurant. We were greeted without there being any wait (it was a bit during the later dinner hours) and tended to by a super friendly waiter, who also proved to be a great photographer haha. We split a half dozen of the baked mayo oysters, seared scallops, gnocchi, fish and chips, and the shrimp and grits. The oysters were melt-in-your-mouth scrumptious, scallops were cooked to perfection, and the gnocchi was luscious and creamy, and the shrimp and grits were packed with flavor. This is a beautiful restaurant by the water side and was definitely a treat! Would highly recommend!
After taking a look at all the restaurants available with a nice view of the water, we decided to give Oyster and Chop a try. Dang we were lucky we did, this candle lit dinner was fantastic! We came as a party of 4 without reservations on a Saturday night, and originally there wasn't a table for us unless we wanted to sit at the bar. But the very welcoming host/waiter said we got lucky and a table opened up just as we were about to walk away. Based on a jacket I was wearing, the waiter noticed we were visiting from Houston, Texas USA so he graciously explained their menu to us. I wish I remembered our waiter's name, but he gave us amazing service the entire dinner. Between the 4 of us, we ordered 4 entrees and 1/2 dozen oysters so we could try a little bit of everything. They were as follows: Oysters - 6 baked oysters that were topped w/ creamy Japanese mayo and togarashi crunch, solid choice but I personally would have liked them just all natural with a squeeze of lemon Fish & Chips - big serving of fish and chips served w/ fresh lemon and homemade tartar sauce, the fish had a crunchy exterior with a perfectly flaky interior, fries were just as they should be and well seasoned Scallops - seared to perfection and beautifully presented, served with this salad throughout that had a tasty vinaigrette of sorts Shrimp & Grits - another beautifully presented dish consisting of creamy grits and slightly spicy shrimp, there seemed to be pieces of house cured bacon throughout as well that added a lot of smokey flavor Gnocchi - by far the BEST dish of the dinner! Elegantly presented pillows of gnocchi that was covered in this velvety smooth sun dried tomato cream sauce. There was a slight smokey flavor to this dish that was delightful, and it had big pieces of oyster mushrooms throughout that was full of umami. The big shavings of parmesan cheese on top was the perfect garnish that slowly melted into the sauce. Overall this candle lit dinner at Oyster and Chop was well executed! The service was top notch because our waiter was extremely friendly, and he really took the time to get to know us a little. The clean white linens and beautiful view of the water gave the restaurant a glowing ambiance as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant to others if you're looking for a nice, slightly more upscale dinner with a waterfront view.
This is one of those places where you pay for the ambience, and not for food. Located in the heart of Auckland downtown, the scenery was beautiful. It's right by the water with view of different boats and little bit of nightlife surrounding. The place was very busy, but we were able to get seated right away outside and thankfully, they did have the heated lamp for us. We have shared the seafood platter, which came with variety of oysters, clams, shrimp, and sashimi. Honestly, the quality of any of these were not up to par. Especially for the price that you're paying here you should probably be better getting some steak. I didn't think the seafood was fresh. The service was ok, nothing really stood out. read more
Oyster and Chop is a schmancy seafood restaurant at Viaduct Harbour, and was on a list of places to visit/eat at in Auckland. It is charming on the inside, with a lot of sea inspired decor offset by modern trappings. I pondered the menu and decided to go with an oyster shot and pork belly as an entree. The attentive waitress put in my order and shortly thereafter brought out my oyster shot. It was AMAZING! The pork belly, not so much. It was ok, but that's what I get for ordering a land animal at a seafood restaurant. Overall, excellent visit! read more

Plenty of restaurants around here but I wanted steak. So picking this place was easy as it's a steakhouse with the steakhouse prices which is fine, as long as the food warrants the price tag. After having some apps at Dr.Rudi's rooftop I wanted a small piece of steak. My fiancée wanted oysters. Oyster and Chop met both of our current food wants. He had a dozen oysters which he said tasted fresh and were good. I'm not an oyster fan so I didn't try it. I can't recall the cut of steak I went with but it was a small cut and I also ordered mashed potatoes. The steak was ordered medium came medium well. So it was not as juicy. They give you a complimentary sauce of your choosing. There's about 6 different options. I went with peppercorn which was okay. The mashed potatoes was rather bland. Overall loved the service and restaurant ambience. The food was okay just didn't warrant the price tag. read more

Delicious food, excellent service in a Perry location by the water!! My husband and two teenage kids had lunch there and it was perfect! We ordered poached oysters and fried calamari for appetizers. They were both excellent, but the oysters were the best! I love poached oysters because it really brings out the flavor of them. We then shared the short rib, fish and chips, truffle Mac and cheese and some warm bread with truffle butter. All was so good, we devoured everything! I also had a delicious raspberry sour, I asked for the recipe and the waiter got it for me. I can't wait to make it at home!! It was such a special lunch with my family!! read more

A beautiful brunch at a nicely decorated restaurant on the marina. Oh yes and a perfect day helps too. Attracted to this place walking by and seeing a delicious looking menu out front we knew it was a must try. 5 star all around for food taste and quality, views, service and prices. Added bonus for anyone interested in paying with Bitcoin, this is the first place I have ever seen a sign that they accept payment with that cryptocurrency anywhere in the world. Good to know for anyone interested...minimum check amount must be $150NZ so plan accordingly. :) We had a fabulous meal. Although the portions were on the smaller side at least compared to the plate size, we both found our meals to be filling and satisfying. Based on the restaurant name and other menu items they seem more known for, I would love to go back here for dinner next time I am in town. read more
We found this place by accident just walking the piers and viaduct area. Mark and I love raw oysters and happened to see that they had $2 oyster happy hour. This place is upscale and elegant. That is reflected in the prices. The location and views are excellent! Great people watching! We had two dozen of the mahurangi oysters, an order of the calamari and and a half order of bread with garlic butter and olive oil and balsamic dipping sauce. We had the dirty martinis plus a carafe of the Sauvignon Blanc. Food and drinks were INCREDIBLE!!! The best calamari I've ever had!! So crunchy on the outside and tender in the inside. The oysters came with a delicious champagne minognette. Service was top notch! A great way to start our first day and first visit to New Zealand!! read more
The two things I absolutely wanted to eat in my NZ trip was oysters and lamb. Getting lamb was pretty easy - any type of cuisine (Indian, Thai, Chinese, Turkish, American, etc...) always had some form of lamb option and for the most part, it wasn't gamey and quite tasty. Oysters, on the other hand, were a little harder to come by at a reasonable price point. We were fortunately in bluff oyster season (March) in NZ and apparently it is a huge thing there. We didn't have an opportunity to get any while in South Island (Bluff is at the tip of South Island) so we tried to hunt for some in North Island. There's a lot of mom-n-pop shops that does seafood but unfortunately, a lot of them don't take credit card. We were so lazy to exchange for NZ cash since our credit card just worked for most places. I started to get confused because at one mom n pop place, the lady working at the counter was just pulling already shucked Bluff oysters out of a plastic container. That to me is not the oysters I had in mind. Luckily I had checked out Zomato (this may be the local NZ Yelp...Yelp has not quite hit critical mass in NZ and I had to get a lot of assist from Tripadvisor for restaurant choices) and I stumbled upon this place for Bluff oysters on the half shell for cheap. For the month of March - from 4-7pm daily in their bar area: 2NZ Bluff Oysters!! The restaurant is typical of your wharf front restaurant - more upscale than casual with a lovely view from their bar. We gorged ourselves with 2 dozens perfectly shucked Bluff oysters and it was SO GOOD. This is why Bluff oysters are world famous - not briney at all and no stomachache the next day! I would've made multiple trips back for these tasty oysters but alas, we discovered this place at the end of our trip. read more
What a pretty spot. Just across from Soul. The happy hour oysters were terrific. Clevedon coast oysters were just wonderful. And the server recommended a lovely vouvray and Pelorus Cloudy Bay rose sparkling was particularly great The clevedon are wonderfully creamy and perfect for a summer day. We loved the outside dining. They have both a terrace and tables in the front. The Quay is just a lovely summer spot with people everywhere and it feels just like summer should. We also loved the kingfish. It is sashimi style with a nice red pepper sauce. We didn't have dinner here but appetizers and the light bites are great here! read more

Exceptional service and the food was spectacular. My husband said that the lamb was the best that he had in NZ and the Parmesan Gnocchi was the best that I have had ever. Delightful host and wait staff. We sat outside and it was a beautiful evening. read more

The food here was very underwhelming, the bluff oysters tasted as if they've been frozen and thawed, my Fiancé ordered the the calamari, it was half the squids body and only a few pieces given. Lastly the fries were doused in oil and a bit too garlic (I'm Italian too!). Overall I am not pleased with the quality of food. I've given this place two different attempts and have been hopeful only to be disappointed again and again with both the food and pricing. read more
We didn't make a reservation on a busy Friday night and waited 30 minutes for a table. While waiting, a drink at the bar was a great way to burn time and to people watch. The wait was worth it. We ordered oysters natural and baked! The baked oysters were divine! Fresh and had a crunchy texture with a yummy mayo to match. The natural oysters were creamy and fresh too. They had four choices of oysters to pick from. The seafood chowder had a lot of seafood and very tasty. We had to order a meat dish to go with the chop in Oyster and Chop! The baby backed ribs were charred nicely and coated with a not very sweet sauce. Dessert was delicious, different and creative! Definitely worth a revisit. read more

We were looking for some good, delicious, and fresh oysters to enjoy and you would expect some at a place called Oysters and Chop since it has the word oyster in it. Well....WRONG!! We stopped by during lunch time and the pricing on their oysters were pretty pricey. But, we decide to just try out half a dozen first, calamari, and steak fries. I'd say my favorite was the steak fries! I'm only giving this place a two star base on the quality and taste of the food we ordered (raw oysters, calamari, and steak fries). The moment I took one bite into the oyster, it was so fishy and disgusting. Not what I was expecting and I was glad we ordered only half a dozen. It was probably one of the worst tasting raw oyster I've ever had. On top of that, the calamari was too salty for our taste. Also, if your are eating out on boxing day (the day after Christmas) many places were charging a 15% surcharge. I guess it may be normal in New Zealand, but I thought that was just weird. read more

This place was sooo gooood! View was great, cocktails were bomb, oysters were fresh, and the lamb rack was perfect. I sat outside which got a little chilly at night but they have the heaters overheard. Great view of the harbor with the boats parked there. I had 1/2 oysters for myself to start with a cocktail. Then the lamb rack. A great place for a date as the inside is beautifully or just a date for one like I did which was really peaceful outside with the heaters. Will definitely go back next time I'm in Auckland!! read more

Our concierge at the Pullman Hotel set us up with a reservation at Oyster & Chop and it was phenomenal! Tim was our server and he was very attentive. He would anticipate every need and recommended tasty New Zealand wines. I don't usually drink wine but New Zealand has changed my tune! My husband and I had tekuma/tikuma Oysters to start because the place is called OYSTER & chop.(TIP: they have $2.00 per oyster happy hours daily if you just wanna fill up on Oysters) They have shared plates so we went with ribeye (I think) and prawn with a side of asparagus and creamed potatoes. Perfection. We ended our meal with a second bottle of wine because we were on holiday :) read more

Perfect place for a morning bake in the sun whilst enjoy fresh and decadent breakfast offerings The Croque Madam will leave you wanting to go for a jog but worth it. Fruit and Salmon are fresh and coffee is 4/5 So peaceful looking out to the water and watching people heading to work ....and yes it's open for breakfast! read more
