Oz Moving charged us approximately $20,000 for a one bedroom move that they did not complete. Each update came with a new $3-5k charge while they had possession of our things, leading to a ridiculously overpriced job that they didn't even finish. They will currently not refund us for furniture that we paid to have reassembled but they left with blankets (that they charged us $500 for). They are now quoting four times the local moving amount in order to actually complete the job that has already been prepaid. Do not use this company. I used Oz twice in the past with great results, so naturally I reached out to them again for an upcoming move. However, the customer service has really gone downhill since the last time I used them, and the agent I dealt with, Millissen, refused to give me a quote. Instead, she told me to pack first and then let her know how many boxes I have, which is an absurdity I never encountered before, and haven't encountered with the other movers I've contacted after being treated so rudely by Oz. I waited months to write this review, hoping OZ Moving would actually find my missing box like they promised, but they haven't. I should have trusted the negative reviews, but they were recommended through my building's moving agency, so I booked them for my move from LA to Brooklyn in April. They rushed me through paperwork in LA on move day (aka the most stressful day) with no real explanation of insurance, just "sign here" so they could get moving. It felt intentional. And yes, I should have read the fine print more carefully, but it shouldn't require a legal degree to understand what you're signing under pressure. When the truck arrived in NYC, they didn't check the inventory list & didn't confirm anything was accounted for. One mirror arrived cracked. They immediately blamed it on the LA movers. (They actually mentioned how annoyed they were at the LA movers several times.) But the real issue? They lost the only box I truly cared about: my favorite painting (a Picasso reprise), another vintage painting, and a small mirror. That box has never shown up. When I reported it, I was told "maybe it's hiding in your apartment" (I live in 600 square feet) and "maybe you didn't pack it." Luckily, I was vlogging that day and have video proof of the painting being loaded onto their truck. They offered me $30. After multiple calls and involving the moving agency (who were lovely -- thank you, Nathan at Moved), they added another $150. Still nowhere close to what was lost. Now that I've read more reviews and see they're notorious for missing items, everything makes sense. I'd honestly rather the painting arrived broken than just "disappeared" -- and I can't ignore how suspicious it all feels. I think about it all the time. It's soooo icky. read more

Their customer service rep responded to my email with a call to tell me that I was wrong and they will not fix the issue. I hired them for a move from LA to NY, and while there were some positive aspects, I would not recommend. First, I want to acknowledge that the movers on both ends were fine. My items arrived in good condition and the pricing was competitive. However, the most significant issue was the lack of communication regarding the arrival of my things. The compensation of $30 per day for delays felt inadequate compared to competitors, but what truly frustrated me was the customer service experience. Each time I reached out for updates, I was met with curt and often rude responses. There was a complete lack of empathy for the disruption the delay caused in my life, which made an already stressful situation worse. read more

No, No, NO, NO. Anybody but OZ - this is not a company you want to do business with. 1. They tell you your items are insured, but in the very, very fine print that you sign only on moving day when your stress level is at an 11 will it be noted that it's only insured BY THE POUND. I accept fault for not reading the paperwork thoroughly while the shady man breathed on me - see #2 below. But be fully aware that when they trash all of your belongings - and they will, see the photos - you will get PENNIES of the value. I submitted a claim and they returned that with a total liability $69.60 on THOUSANDS of dollars of damage. They then sent me a $300 check "in good faith" - that won't even cover the repair to one of the benches that they split in half. 2. They hire the SHADIEST people (at least in NYC - the delivery guys in LA were lovely). The foreman in NY tried to railroad me into giving that NYC crew the ENTIRE tip (instead of 50/50, as is standard in XC moves). I called the sales rep I worked with to question this and he said that the foreman's supervisor would call him. Then all of my stuff was damaged - most definitely in retaliation for my daring to speak up on a TOTAL SCAM. 3. Their delivery window is a full blown LIE. My items were to be delivered December 1-10. They called on December 9 and said they would be there on December 15, which was after I was already out of town for the holidays. When did I finally receive my shipment you ask? That was January 10 - a full month after the window. Moved from LA to NYC used Oz ------- NYC branch was awful. They didn't give us a firm date and so we had to keep extending our hotel stays. That was minimal- the main issue was the delivery. I saw our large Flat screen TV laying on the floor facedown in the wrong room. Which I thought was really weird and Because these three guys were building a huge canopy bed in a small room with a huge TV on the floor, anyone could step on the TV. Finally after hours I said "hey maybe you should move it to the room it's supposed to be in so you don't step on it ". So they move it after I asked them THREE TIMES (!?). Of course when they moved it, I saw why it was laying facedown all day. It was SHATTERED and looked like someone took a baseball bat to it. The movers played dumb, but I knew they broke it and didn't want to tell me. It was obvious, and really shitty. Why else would they leave an expensive TV in the middle of the floor with three men walking over it ? Then they said don't worry the company takes care of this - you'll get a new one. Which is a total lie. After a claim They gave us $600 for the $4,000 TV and various wine, glasses, dishes ect. we just bought 6 months ago (have receipts to show). We just bought EVERYTHING new in December. Pots, glasses, TV you name it. All glasses broke, most of our dishes. I mean anything that could break- broke. It was unbelievable. The movers were very unprofessional and asking me personal questions about what I did for work, about my life in LA, and various things like that. Which is all fine if they were unpacking. I was doing just as much as them towards the end because they were so lazy. The whole move was bad and basically we paid them to break our stuff. The fact the movers played dumb and didn't want me to notice just shows the kind of business and company this is. Oz Moving & Storage destroyed $3100 worth of our possessions. Oz improperly packed our TV and the screen was bent and cracked upon delivery. They broke our toddler daughter's bed frame, and crushed the mattress -- all of which were essentially brand new. This was the sloppiest move I have ever seen. Boxes were crushed during transit, and they packed items improperly. I would never use Oz again and I'm in the process of reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. The company failed to do its basic job. If I could give them 0 stars I would. What is most sad is that they won't reimburse us for the items because we only had basic insurance. However, this was not a dish or lamp breaking by accident, this was our daughter's bed and our TV completely destroyed by improper packing, which was their responsibility. Added 9/5/23: in response to Nancy's comment, I believe it's important to note that the damages were caused by negligence and the failure of the company to do its basic job (moving possessions safely), not a result of a box falling or other accidents that might require insurance. Please read my initial review below. This is a follow up to Oz's reply to my initial review. I would recommend any potential long-distance mover to PLEASE read all the bad reviews of Oz Moving in yelp. The ability of Oz's ability to execute long-distance moves without damaging furniture is highly questionable. Oz Moving is apparently claiming that they do not "put any shipments on auction" but they "on occasion work with reputable carriers we have established relationships with." They're playing with words here. What is true is that Oz Moving outsources its moves to third party carriers. Please do not describe these people you work with as "reputable carriers." The movers were a complete joke, terribly rude, and took zero responsibility for the damaged furniture items ("I'm sorry but it's not our fault, we just got these items as is.") Second, Oz included "extensive information" regarding the insurance buried in the contract. No one in the Oz Moving team orally encouraged me to get insurance. On the day of the move, the movers encouraged me to sign the 10-15 page contract as quickly as possible. I asked the foreman where I should sign and put my initials, and the foreman just pointed me to "here, here and here" (he was also terribly bad at English, I could barely understand him). Turns out he made me sign the no-insurance option. Third and finally, how would I have known you would be such terribly irresponsible movers? How in the world do you manage to damage 2 out of the 3 big items I requested to move? Even after I tell you beforehand that those are expensive items? A 66% damage rate is terrible. "Insurance," is for peculiar circumstances. Insurance is for something that you should, on average, expect NOT to happen. If I had known you were regularly breaking items during moves, I would have gotten insurance. Giving me $200 total as compensation, which is lower than the $300 tip I gave you, and lower than the $6,700 moving fee (totalling a mind-numbing $7,000 for a move) I gave you, just demonstrates how much you think of your customer. The $200 is a joke. Oz has been incredibly unapologetic, curt, and rude ever since they found out my furniture was damaged and I put in a claim. The claims manager Allison Bello ignored my emails more than once and I had to email her multiple times to beg her to give me an update on the status of my claim. I also thank you for sending me, unsolicited, proof that I signed up for the barebones insurance option in the envelope that contained the $200 "goodwill" check. Gee thanks guys, good to know you guys are legally off the hook! I don't know why Oz insists on being a moving company when they are so much better at defending against legal liabilities? Oz is breaking furniture here and there but they're defending against claims so much more competently. Go set up a law firm! I'll be your client! You do not want to get on the "Wicked Witch" side of Oz. Once you put in a claim, the fight is on. Make sure your claims are airtight. Make sure you take pictures of all your furniture before moving. Get insurance. Better yet, get a mover that actually cares about actually not damaging your items. Maybe one day, us movers won't have to care about getting insurance. read more

Had a short distance move, and they broke more items than they didn't. They sent a team to "repair" the items they broke, which left our dining room table in MUCH worse condition than if they hadn't touched it at all after damaging it. It had multiple scratches (from the move) and they just sanded it to oblivion, so it's not flat anymore. We eat on a hill now. The insurance process was a complete joke. The whole process unnecessarily took 3 months. After they "repaired" our table (which took 4 weeks), they sent the repair team back to "verify" that it couldn't be fixed because they didn't believe the PICTURES of this hideousness that we sent. Throughout the process they were extremely unresponsive, unprofessional, and we eventually got only a small fraction of the money to cover the damage (about a third) Special shout-out to Allison, the insurance representative for Oz who orchestrated this lovely experience, would only respond to every 3rd or 4th email we sent (sometimes weeks apart), never apologized for breaking our furniture and accused us of lying about items being damaged (in the same email where we had pictures of the damage attached lol). I used Oz moving in 2017 to move from Bed Stuy to Brooklyn Heights, and they were phenomenal. I used them again for a recent move from Flatbush and Brooklyn Heights to Philadelphia and they broke my front door, broke a ceiling fan at the destination, and one of the movers had the audacity to count the tip (15%, which I think was more than fair, considering) in front of me. Despite the fact that they say that they will "never ask for tips" the coordinator of the move emphasized they expect tips, 20%, in cash which I was already more than happy to pay IF the move went smoothly. It did not. Unprofessional and left a bunch of mess to clean up in their wake. Customer service to address the issue had me transferred to someone's voicemail, which I'm guessing is to get me past the "72 hours for a complaint" timeframe. Avoid these guys at all costs. They don't care about your stuff, will break anything in the way, and you'll end up paying for it. 0/10 would never use again. read more

I was recently faced with something that we all hate doing: trying to hire a moving company after wading through countless reviews online, looking at quotes provided by apps and even making a few phone calls. Never mind that the move needed to be done in a relatively short time and I was also trying to work full time. I decided the best way to do this was to go full service in order to preserve my sanity. I arranged for a consultation to get the best quote and explained that the move was a two leg because it involved dropping things into storage and the rest at the new apartment. Lavi and his partner came out and spent a considerable amount of time surveying the stuff and worked up a price. I agreed and paid a small deposit. I made a change regarding the storage aspect and the price was reworked without issue. Two days later Javon and his crew of 4 men arrived and packed and loaded up everything going into storage onto the truck. Once that was done, they packed up the entire apartment, with the exception of the bed. It took about 5 hours because they were dealing with a lot of stuff. They came back the next morning at 8 am sharp with a 5 man crew. Loaded up the truck and moved me into the new apartment lighting fast. Then we went to storage and packed the unit. There were certain items I wanted separate so Javon made sure his guys packed the boxes accordingly into the unit. The only damage I noticed was an ancient mouse was broken and an external hard drive's case was chipped. Easily replaced. Although the entire move was somewhat pricey, I am confident and extremely familiar with the Oz brand. And the fact that I felt peace of mind from being in good hands made it money well spent for the job they did. read more

Came referred to me, and the only person I feel worse for than myself, is the person who referred them. she has been apologizing constantly and is embarrassed after personally witnessing my delivery. Upon pickup , I was charged $1,000 additional upon pickup ($500 because I asked them to arrive 3 hours later than planned - this i understand), and $500 because the drivers coerced me into "tipping them up front instead of half now half on dropoff", of course totally different drivers arrived to deliver my stuff... (add: additional $500 tip, bringing OZ up a total of $1500 {plus the 5k for my move} ). OZ states that they will give you 24 hour notice of the delivery window , I received my notice at 9:38am , stating they'd arrive at 10:30am the same day. A far cry from 24 hours. Of course like any working class citizen, I wasn't around (I wasn't even in the same city), they then pushed my delivery an additional 2 days out , which cost me $2000 in fees (New incurred total on $4100 quoted move = $7600). finally I received my delivery, no boxes labeled, total confusion, took up my entire day (plus my staff) to get things in order ....i expressed my concerns on all of the above to Nancy Zafrani, and of course she put 100% of the blame on me. Every issue, every missed timeline, missed guarantee, and misquoted price was justified by her with the most asinine and elementary reasoning I have ever heard . Shocked this company has been able to rip-off so many people and fly under the radar for all of these years. Upon closer examination, it's my opinion that they use PR firms to flood the internet with podcasts, reviews written by employees, and local pay for play interviews where they pay a fee to the publisher to control the narrative, In order to drown out the negative reviews by actual paying customers. I have yet to receive my $300 deposit. You did mention that toll would be deducted. At this point I want the FULL amount. This is getting ridiculous at this point. Not only has Oz Storage "misplaced" my items, items by the way that I will never ever be able to replace (family photo albumns) and by adding insult to injury, you keep telling me the check will be mailed. I did not abuse your employee but your manager did not answer for my repeated questions of daily moving activity log. If my saying "my money paid for moving service will get you paycheck" is a proof of abuse, you should resign your job and go back to school to get a better communication skill. Moved from Queens to Florida. Everything went well in Queens I did my own packing. Guys cleared out our boxes in record time. They were in storage for a month as we sold our apartment and drove to Florida. Were delivered within 10 days from our arrival. Unfortunately there were several damaged boxes, one split and taped together, and one plastic bin that was split. Not sure how that could even happen. Oddly only the boxes labeled FRAGILE we damaged ?? So labeling obviously didn't matter. Either they were stored badly or tossed around in packing the truck. Which is, of course, the most important part of a move. One dish in a vintage set was broken which I can't replace. Other small items were broken. Nothing major but if a mover can't keep the boxes from being damaged what good are they. read more

Just used Oz for my long-distance move from NYC to SF. It definitely could have been worse, but I'm not sure they'd be my first choice for a similar move in the future. THE GOOD: -The price was right. The rate (~$3k for a small 1 bed) was what attracted me to Oz in the first place, and they never tacked on any additional fees. I hugely underestimated how many boxes we had (by 2-3x) and the upcharge for that was minor considering what a bind we were in. Really appreciated not getting nickel-and-dimed. -The local move teams were awesome. They sent plenty of people to get our things on and off the truck; they were in and out quickly and very professional. -Everything arrived surprisingly undamaged. I was expecting at least a few things to break over such a long move, but in the end all we lost was one plate. Very impressive. THE BAD: -It took twenty-five days to move our things from NY to SF. I don't think I fully envisioned the extent to which living in an empty apartment and sleeping on an air mattress for nearly a month would suck, but I recommend you take some time to self-reflect on your tolerance for that before booking Oz. I take full responsibility for not realizing that "14 business days" really means a month once weekends and holidays are sprinkled in; don't make the same mistake I did. This review only concerns the service Oz advertizes for "mini moves." On their website they are promoting this new service, and actually give as an example, when two roommates move and they cannot alone move a sofa. Well, that's exactly what I have and need. I am moving within Manhattan. I was excited to find this service. -I thought I had now found a responsible mover, with insurance, etc., that could move my sofa at a reasonable price. however, when I called they told me that a "mini move" for a sofa cost over $500 -just 25 blocks. I was told that there was so much demand that the prices are higher at this time of year. Well, pardon me for thinking and believing that that's misleading advertizing: if you are going to set up a business model including "mini moves" you need to be able to do it at a reasonable rate -that's the whole point! $500 for one piece of furniture is not a reasonable rate, and it shows that they have not created business practices for making "mini moves," except when it is convenient for them -when they have extra capacity. That is, it is not a year-round sustainable business model. And it is set up only for their financial benefit, to the detriment of customers.
