This was my second time coming here but my first visit was pre Yelp for me. My niece and I came here on a Saturday afternoon. It was packed & lively! The staff's hard work stood out. My niece and me each had our own wine flight ( $17 each for 4 pours) I had the Alabama dry and my niece has the Corbin fruits. We both enjoyed our selections. I also had a rum pina colada/ hurricane mixed slushy. Ozan also doubles as a distillery. They offer a small plate menu plus some pizzas. We didn't order any foods. The winery is really pretty and aesthetically appealing! As we walked up, I loved smelling the grapes in the vineyard! It was cool being back here for the first time in many years. Cute little winery we discovered on our stop through Alabama. We visited on a Thursday afternoon, and it wasn't very busy--which ended up being a huge bonus for us. It truly felt like the space was reserved just for us to relax, enjoy some girl time on our trip, and savor delicious wine samplings. The customer service was absolutely top‑notch. Although there was only one employee working, she was incredible--friendly, engaging, and attentive. She took the time to chat with us, offered great recommendations, and consistently checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. I had such a great time at the Sips of the South wine tasting with the train ride at Ozan Winery--definitely one of the more unique wine experiences I've done! The train ride itself was a really fun and relaxing touch. It gave the whole event a laid-back, scenic vibe and made it feel more like an experience than just a standard tasting. It's perfect for a date day or a small group outing. As for the wine, I ended up purchasing the blueberry and peach wines, and both were absolutely delicious--fruity, smooth, and easy to drink. If you enjoy sweeter wines, I highly recommend trying those. I also have to mention the wine slushies--they were SO good and super refreshing, especially if you're visiting on a warm day. Definitely a must-try! The charcuterie selection was also a highlight. There was a nice variety, and the cheeses paired really well with the wines. Everything tasted fresh, and the portions were just right for snacking throughout the tasting. A couple tips: I'd recommend booking in advance since this seems like a popular event, and definitely plan to take your time and enjoy the full experience. Participated in a 5k that was held at this vineyard and I must say that I fell in love with the scenery. When you pull up you immediately see rows of vineyards. The space was so quiet and tranquil. Unfortunately, there were not open at the time that I was there so I wasn't able to enjoy the full capacity of what this winery had to offer. We were able to have a delectable glass of one of 3 wines. I tried their watermelon flavor. It tasted and smelled so fresh that they could've just made it and bottled it right before I tried. I wanted to buy a bottle immediately. Will definitely be back for more. read more

My friends and I were in Birmingham for a girls weekend and decided to check out Ozen Vineyard and winery! I love visiting wineries, and this was the first time that both of my friends have been to one. I could not have picked a better winery for their first experience. We chose the sweet wine flight and it was some of the best wine that I have ever tasted! On top of that Customer Sevice was top-tier all the ladies that helped us were super nice and helpful. So my wife took me here this weekend for our 7th anniversary, and when I say I loved it? I LOVED IT! The staff was great and very knowledgeable, it was fun riding the train, and the wine tasting was great! We ended up buying 8 bottles of wine! Also, they had a muscadine wine that took me back to my childhood. My grandfather use to make that type of wine and would always give me the fruit. The grounds and the inside were so cute and quaint and cozy! It was a true experience and I would definitely recommend! Very romantic and my gave me a wedding ring upgrade while there! read more

This beautiful winery located in Calera south of Birmingham is slightly off the beaten path of I-65. I thought it would be cool to check out since we were good on time. It wasn't crowded at the time went beings it just opened @ 10 am. The parking lot is gravel instead of actual pavement. It is small so you may want to go during a slow time. This by far is the most beautiful countryside vineyard we have been to and this is coming from someone who has visited all the wineries in Bullitt County KY, which they are all also beautiful but, this has to be my favorite winery outside of Kentucky. They have their own vineyard, and there is inside and outside seating. This is a beautiful venue good enough for any wedding or party. The pictures I took do no justice, you basically have to see it to believe it. Our hostess was very friendly, helpful and informative. Unlike the other nearby wineries, this one actually grows in their vineyard and makes their own wine on site. We also did a spirit flight with the wine tasting and the spirits were in much smaller cups for obvious reasons. Was able to get a free tumbler (glass) with the spirit flight. My friend and I loved the wine so much we bought wine glasses and a few bottles of wine, they do ship (but, unfortunately not to KY because of a law that alcohol can't be shipped to a private residence). Wish we could remember the hostess name. She was totally awesome. Will definitely be back next adventure to Florida. read more

Expected so much more from our experience at Ozan winery Christmas train ride. Our daughter wanted to take her dad on a train ride since he loves trains and wine. The train was not decorated as described in the ad with very little garland and lights. The wine and rum were very bad and the food was cold sliders with stale chips. This was a very bad experience for the cost of hundreds of dollars. My suggestion is go to a nice restaurant and have a nice meal for this kind of money. With the winery having two event trains in one night I think they could have taken a few minutes to have cleared the steps of leaves to the winery. This was my first and last time for Ozan winery. For the cost y'all need to do BETTER. read more

This review is based upon the Wine Train Tour only. We were under the impression that the wine tasting and snacks would be served on the train ride like most wine train tours are. However, this was an oversight on my end as it is indicated on the reservation that the wine tasting and cheese plate is served at the vineyard. The tour started off with a really brief history of the Vineyard. Then we were all provided with a shot of their Yella Whiskey before boarding the train. The train ride was very underwhelming and basically consisted of staring into the woods and at the bare trees. 30 seconds or so of brief history was narrated by one of the crew. The train ride lasted about 30 minutes or so. We were then returned to the Vineyard for the tasting of 10 wines and cheese plate. I loved the blueberry wine and purchased a bottle to go. We were able to keep our wine glasses as keepsakes. The hosts were very friendly and engaging with the group. I would return for the Vineyard only. We enjoyed their wines. Skip the train. The wine and spirits were amazing! We stopped due to a backup on 65 and it was well worth the detour. Cindy and Heath were so helpful and kind. We had flights of the Alabama Dry and the Sweet and Chilled. We ended up going home with 4 bottles of wine, gin, and yellow whiskey. Cindy and Heath were so helpful and kind. We will definitely be back when we are on our next trip south, however, we are so excited that they will ship to us in Indiana! read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Ozan Vineyard and Winery. My husband and I joined another couple here last week. We were able to sit outside and be socially distance. There were a few other couples there and even though we were all distanced from each other, we were close enough to talk with the other couples, who offered suggestions on drinks they had tried. My husband and I shared a cheese plate, which was good. We also had a light lunch. I tried the barbecue pizza. It came with a salad, chips, and water. We also were able to try 5 wine samples. I chose all of the sweet wines. The Riesling was my favorite. I ended up trying a mixed drink that was delicious. This winery is also a distillery so my husband bought a bottle of their bourbon, which is really smooth. Our waiter was super nice and accommodating. The music was folky and nice. The outdoor seating had a good view. It was such a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I would go back! read more

My friends and I (party of 3) decided on the wine train tour with the wine tasting. Let me just say that the train is ABSOLUTELY not worth it. You simply ride through the woods--nothing to see except trees and rocks. Just go for the wine if you want to try something in the area. We also opted for the lunch as part of the tasting. It was ok but our umbrella at the table was COVERED in stink bugs so we kept watching to make sure they weren't falling on us, in our wine or our food. Doubt I would ever visit again if I'm in the area. Our wine server was very nice however. Also, be mindful if there are any SEC games on the day you plan to visit, you will need to plan for almost an hour longer to get from your destination than usual. Zero stars for Bird and the whiskey tour, two stars for Shelby and the wines. My party and I entered the winery and never received acknowledgement. To Shelby's defense, she was servicing other guests. Later Bird came out and proceeded to ask the guests in front of us in line and behind us in line if they had been helped and if they needed help. Eventually after he ran out of people to ask he begrudgingly asked us (the black folks) if we had been helped. We stated no and needed to check in for the whiskey tour. He simply said it will start soon. We seated ourselves outside and waited for the tour. Later we saw a group of people walk past us. I asked if this was the whiskey tour and one of the participants said yes. We were shocked that no one bothered to tell us it had started. The tour started late and ended early. As the tour progressed and we went to the side of the building, there was a couple sitting there that asked us if this was the whiskey tour. We said yes. The couple was so aggravated because no one told them it had started either. The tour guide, Bird, was awful. He was not knowledgeable nor friendly. He did not know why/how some whiskeys are white vs yellow. He did not know where the corn he buys is from and whether it is non-GMO (his response is that everything is genetically modified nowadays), he did not know why spirits are called spirits, he did not know how gin is made and more. Many of the participants were grumbling about his lack of knowledge and his overall personality. Additionally, when it came to the tastings, Shelby started us off and filled the "communion" cups to the brim. But then when Bird took over he only halfway filled the cups. The snacks that were served was only pepperoni pizza. Nothing for vegetarians or non-pork eaters. At the end of the tour we got souvenir cups. We stuck around for a while and sampled three wines for free with Shelby's help and munched on some bruschetta. All of us ended up buying a bottle or two, because many of the wines were very good. However, overall I would not recommend this winery to others as Bird is co-owner and appears to be racist and unprofessional. I would not patronize this business again. read more

This was the cutest little place. I read some mixed reviews so I was slightly worried about going, but don't let it detour you. We had the best time. We were seated promptly at our reservation time and greeted with mimosas and breakfast croissants. Shortly after we were escorted through the vineyard down to the train ride , which was part of the close by train museum. We were told about the facility during the walk down to the train track. We loved it as it was a nice thing to do but I could see how some would not enjoy as it was just down the track and back. We loved the open riding part of the train and getting to learn about little about it as we went along. Once back, we enjoyed several wines and we had the best lady to describe them to us. We had a selective meat and cheese tray for each of us. There was a sweet cheese on there I absolutely loved. Our wine sommelier was super attentive and funny. We bought several bottles to bring home with us and we got to keep our wine glasses as souvenirs. It was the perfect little day date for us. read more

The girls and I felt the weather was just right for a Saturday outing at Ozan. We were greeted by some friendly staff. We had purchased our tickets online for the cheese plate and five wine tastings. We wished we could have had the tour, but they aren't doing that because of Covid. However, after April 9 that will start up again. It's so quiet and relaxing out there. There were only two people working so it took some time to get things, but they were working as fast as they could. The wine tasted great and so did the food. We all had the chicken pesto panini with a salad and chips. The salad had some feta and olives and we chose balsamic vinegar. Lunch was great. The assortment of cheese and meat with crackers was very nice to have with our wine. We would definitely go back and possibly do the train ride which is offered on Saturdays. read more

Went to Ozan for the first time this weekend for a special event. The event was Bourbon and Brisket. The winery itself has a great atmosphere and has a great selection. Staff was helpful and friendly. The reason for the 3 stars was more about the event. It included a cocktail at check in, a train ride, 5 different tastings, and a brisket box with a couple of sides. Check in was quick and easy. The train ride was as expected. It's short, but it was something different. It only lasted about 30 minutes. The tasting was the best part. We even bought a bottle of one of the wines we tasted. I think the biggest disappointment was the brisket box. It was 2 small sliders with slaw and a corn salad mixture. The brisket was pretty good, but everything was cold. I feel like for the price we paid it would be better if they would have a more buffet style with hot food. Overall it was good and will probably visit the winery again, but will probably not do any special events. Too expensive for what you get. read more

We were excited for the Christmas train ride and winery visit and arrived early to the station. We were able to go thru the railroad museum & visit the gift shop before the train departed. The staff were wonderful & accommodating. The trains were vintage L&N cars & decorated for Christmas. It was fun being on a train again. The ride itself is approximately 15 minutes. It is through the woods, and not much to see - especially at dusk/dark. As we approached the winery, there were Christmas decorations along side the tracks which was nice. The platform at the winery was well lit & ADA compliant and was actually a bit more manageable than at the station. But the train is equipped with lifts if needed. From this point, it was NOT a pleasant experience. *The walk to the venue "on a lighted path" is simply through the vineyard on uneven ground with sting lights alone the way. This was VERY difficult for a guest with mobility problems. *The ticket description was for "table for 2" along with 2 drink tickets each and savory and sweet snacks. Tables were very limited and by the time we maneuvered the walk, there were only chairs. The chairs were packed around the tables against the wall. It was impossible to move around, especially with oxygen and a cane. *There were too many tickets sold! We had to stand in line to get drinks, which took most of the time allotted. We did enjoy the cheese plate & got to taste 1 wine. When I was in line for our 2nd drink & sweet plate, we were told it was time to board the train. The 2nd seating was arriving & we had to leave. We did NOT get our 2nd drink nor the sweet plate. We would not recommend or go back. *This event/venue is NOT ADA friendly! Note - in the 2nd seating, there was a guest on a mobility scooter. He was last off the train. I would imagine he had to sit outside. We struggled with O2 & a cane. There was NO room for a scooter, wheelchair or walker. read more

We bought tickets to one of Ozan's Mother's Day events. The charge was reasonabl. The Trackside Train excursion included a train ride and wine/cheese tasting (and optional lunch) back at the winery. The train ride was pointles. No sooner than we got going than the train had to stop because it had to use a chainsaw to cut a limb that we had ran into. Apparently they don't do routine maintenance from the tracks in the wooded area the train goes thru. Then we had to stop again for several minutes for the locomotive to move from the front of the train to the back so it could take us back to the winery we just came from. When we got back to the winery some of the customers complained to the staff about the problems with the train and they only talked about how that was a completely separate group of people responsible for that. Great response. Then we sat at our assigned tables. The cheese plate was already on the table uncovered. it was an open air cafe so I do not know how long the food had been sitting out or what kind of flying insects could have landed on it. Why it didn't have a cover over it I have no clue. The wine tasting included 10 separate wines which would have been fine had it not taken so long to go thru the selections. The same person serving us was also responsible for several other tables so that plus the delay in getting our lunch made us 30 minutes later leaving than scheduled. What's the best way to run a business? The exact opposite of the way the owner of this place runs his business. We visited this morning for a run. Our wives were running and we were sitting outside near the start / finish line. My companion looked and didn't see any "Non-smoking" signs anywhere. He lit up a smoke. The owner stomped over to our table and proceeded to berate and poke my companion in the chest for smoking. My companion had his granddaughter in his lap BTW. There is a right way to handle a situation and the total wrong way. This my friends was the totally wrong way. A simple "excuse me sir, we don't allow smoking" would have sufficed. Cute winery, and a good visit if you're in the area! The lady conducting the tour and tasting was very kind. I will say that I've developed a taste for CA wines, so many of the wines here weren't quite for my palate. The wines were pretty creative though, and I got to try peach wines, scuppernong, etc. that I haven't found anywhere else. The cuvee rouge was my favorite, and the easiest I found to drink. A lot of their wines are very sweet, and I think they should've done all their dessert wines at the end of the tasting instead of doing some in the middle. We went here for their distillery tour (check out Groupon) and we loved it. We tasted their 3 main distilled Liquor a variety of ways, plus it included a tour and a question and answer session. Wrapped with a few bar snacks of pickled carrot, okra, and green tomatoes, and more! Very yummy, plus you got to a mini cocktail of your choice and to keep the glass. Several of my friends and I attended and organized run at this winery yesterday. While the runners were out on the course two of our husbands sat on the patio to await our return. One of the husbands is a smoker and lit a cigarette. There were not any "no smoking" signs posted on the patio so naturally he though smoking was allowed outside the venue. As my friend was smoking, the owner came running to the patio and began loudly berating him while poking at his chest in front of his 2 year old granddaughter and many other attendees. Our friend was angrily told that he had to leave the premises - no other options were given. My friend responded calmly with a "You don't have to be an *ssh*le." and left. In my opinion a simple "Sir this is a no-smoking facility. Please extinquish your cigarette." would have sufficed but the gentleman (I use that term lightly) was unnecessarily and extremely rude. In our group there are several avid wine drinkers. Needless to say this winery has lost our future business. Out of concern for future customers, PLEASE post an appropriate amount of NO SMOKING signs throughout and OUTSIDE of your venue. Final thoughts- there is another winery within a few miles of here. They offer wonderful wines & food and their friendly, helpful staff members know how to treat patrons with dignity and respect. P.S. They offer a designated smoking area if you so choose to indulge. read more

Absolutely beautiful scenery, however, communication was not there. I got there early, thinking I would have some time to walk around, but the group was already walking down to the train. The train ride is not worth it, all you see are trees, and a pond. It was cool to be on a real train, but otherwise pointless. Once off the train, I had no clue where to go, none of the workers were loud enough for everyone to hear. I had to ask other people there and they also didn't know. The wine tasting was fun, the charcuterie board, and the lunch was really good. It lasted longer than it was suppose to, which isn't a big deal but still. The experience was okay, but I will more than likely not be back. read more

Page was our tour guide. She was very personable and nice. We were there with 3 other couples. The tour was cute and quick but informative. The story of how the winery started is also very cute. We tried a total of 12 wines. 2 vodkas. 1 whiskey. Can you say drunk on my ass. I absolutely am not a fan of dry wines this is etched in stone. Sweeter wines are definitely my friend but even not all of them are palatable. I love the 100% Peach wine the most and had a few other favorites. And because I had a Groupon I for 15% off all wine purchases. It is definitely worth a trip there as a day date with your love or with some friends. I am thankful for the cheese and crackers lol. Beautiful scenery and food worth waiting for. The flights of Whiskey were fabulous. Too bad we were on our way to the airport.

We took the Wine and Whiskey Trackside tour. We felt that what we experienced was way different from what the tour was represented as when we purchased it. We believed we would board the train and make stops along the way to get off or do the wine tastings. Not so at all. We literally boarded the train, rode a mile in reverse, stopped and rode a mile back the other direction back to the same place we started at. It was almost laughable. When we got back to the vineyard there was a cheese plate waiting on our table so that was nice. The wine tasting was nothing spectacular. Also, the staff (with the exception of our wine pourer) seemed very rushed and not very friendly. Overall, we did not enjoy the experience and would not do it again. read more

My sister and I were traveling through the area and thought it would be fun to stop at a local winery. We chose Ozan because of its proximity to our route. It was easily accessible from the main highway with great signage leading us to the property. The property is on a lovely setting. The owner was an absolute delight. We only had a short time to visit and try a few varieties but it was well worth the stop. The wines were a variety of serious and fun. They don't give you a history of the wine or a tour. We drove 50 mins from the base to support local business. It was just a very weird experience, but the company I was with was fantastic! The service was horrible! I went with a group of people from my AF training school, and BERT, the only male server was sooooooo rude, it was offensive. I usually give people a bit of grace, but I had to write and tell anyone considering going here, re-think it. Go to a nice lounge and have a glass or two of wine. We immediately left after BERT became hostile with us, didn't even get to finish our wine/whisky tasting. His behavior was so unacceptable!!!! I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Unfortunately this experience was not what was expected or described. Upon arrival, check in was a bit chaotic and unorganized. No real directions were given. The wine tasting is not aboard the train, and the train ride is a short ride up and down the same track with no views other than the woods of individuals back yards. The train is an older model with not very clean cars. No real tour of the vineyard. The wine tasting was just a sample of each wine offered for purchase, however there was no ability to clean your palette between tastings, nor no ability to clean the one glass provided. The tasting happens inside the restaurant alongside other guests that were just patrons of the restaurant. The only parting gift was the same glass used to sample each wine, placed in a togo bag by yourself. My friend and I traveled over 2 hours for a birthday celebration and were ultimately disappointed by this experience. read more

We were really looking forward to trying this winery and went the Sunday after Thanksgiving. I was visiting with my husband from Colorado and my cousin and her husband prepaid for a brunch experience here. The wine flights were nice but presentation lacks. The lunchboxes didn't make sense to me but there were other concerns. This isn't a cheap venue so when you're paying big $$$$ you expect better waitstaff service and customer service. You don't rush your patrons to decide on wine flights. You don't keep frowning that you are serving us. The venue was nice but the service is greatly lacking. We wanted to get a group photo at the end and one waitress made an excuse with a frown about not taking the photo and the other seemed to snub their nose and frown at the idea and had an attitude but took it anyway. I hate to think there was a racial aspect involved but when you don't get proper service and don't hear back from people it makes you wonder. I tried reaching management twice, left my number and email and never heard back so obviously these concerns are not important to the owner or manager which is a shame. So we won't be back and will take our money elsewhere. read more
