Ozone Falls is a nice little stop if you want to see a beautiful waterfall without having to do much hiking. There are 2 trails -- one at the top of the falls and one going down. Both are very short. The downward trail is basically a descent through rocky terrain. It is not vertical, drop-offs, or anything too extreme. If you have hiked a train with rocks/boulders, this should be pretty normal. But, if you are not accustomed to that type of hiking or walking on uneven terrain, it might be tough. I saw plenty of kids doing the trail and my two kids (9 and 11) really enjoyed it. They loved the little swimming hole beneath the waterfall. Overall, this is a great place to relax and take in a little nature. You can easily go behind the waterfall and even sit underneath it (at least, when we were there). Very picturesque place. read more

Ozone Falls is a great place to stop for a bit of nature and a beautiful waterfall if you're in the area! From the parking lot, there's a .75-mile hike that starts at the bluff near the falls and ends down at the base of the falls. It's not long but it is a steep incline (so definitely expect a workout going back up). But well worth it! The waterfall plunges 110 feet into a pool and you can walk all the way behind and around it. According to the website, it was selected for filming scenes in the remake of the Jungle Book. It's that pretty. I took so many pictures! It's not much of a hike, but it's a great place to stretch your legs and take in a beautiful waterfall (we stopped on a drive from Nashville to Knoxville). Absolutely beautiful. We sat on the rocks at the bottom of the falls for hours. The hike is very short, but beware if you have little ones or older folks; many people fell since the rocks were slippery. You're able to swim at the bottom of the falls, and there's a trail through the woods if you need to get more hiking in. Parking is right next to the trail entrance, so bonus points for easy access. I get lost pretty easily when trying to find new places! Whether it's for a few minutes, or a few hours, come check out this breathtaking view! read more

stayed a couple nights in Cookeville and looked for something to do. The falls were 30-45 minutes drive. Free. There was parking and at that time no cars there but there isn't much parking so I imagine weekends are busy. We didn't have the time or energy to do any trails or find out way down to the base of the falls but would like to next time. the walk to the look over point isn't far .. its pretty flat but there are some roots and rocks. You aren't climbing over rocks or boulders but wouldn't be for old or mobility issues. We are in our 50s and out of shape and did it with no problem. When you get to the money shot ...well i'm afraid of heights. to get the really good view you have to walk right to the edge and look over. I got dizzy so help my husband .. he wanted to hold me but that freaked me out. I mean i think we are happily married but all he had to do was let go. lol. I joked that is probably a Tennessee divorce .. just go up there and come back alone. The view is stunning. read more

Crab Orchard doesn't offer a lot in the way of tourist attractions, but Ozone Falls makes it worth a visit. It's a quick and flat walk to the top of the falls if you want to venture a peek over the cliff and see the drop to the pool 110 feet below, and the .1 trek down to the bottom of the falls is rocky and can be slippery at times. I recommend leaving your Chacos at home because it's not a difficult path, but you could go sideways quickly if you aren't in solid shoes. You can easily walk behind the falls and all the way around the plunge pool without getting in the water, and the Black Mountain (6.7 miles) connects below the falls if you want to continue on. Going early in the day will help ensure you can find a parking spot because the two small parking areas are packed by 11 on pretty days. If you want to take a picnic, Ozone Falls has no designated area, but a local park with a picnic area is just a 6-minute drive away. read more

Let me immediately start off my review by saying the waterfall itself is beautiful! It is the surroundings of its location that make me less of a fan. By all accounts, this is a beautiful waterfall. But on the day of my visit the trail was trashy, slippery and the rain-soaked stones were jagged and difficult to traverse. ADD to that some people setting up camp in odd places, including one couple who placed their hammocks in the middle of one of the only paths to the bottom and you could understand my annoyance. Yes there was still some room to go around, but I couldn't help but feel slightly aggravated by this obvious discourtesy to others. However, to be fair I think a more pressing condition was the fact that I've seen far more impressive waterfalls. I was promised by many Tennessee locals I'd met at other waterfalls that THIS waterfall was a MUST SEE with it's turquoise blue pool at the base of the falls. But unless I need glasses or am beginning to go color blind, there was nothing spectacular about the color of the water. Must depend on the day because other pics I've seen do show a bluish green pool. I must admit I was surprised by my lack of excitement once in the presence of this waterfall. Typically I am in awe of any natural occurrence such as this, which reminded me of a quote I'd once read: "The more often we see the things around us - even the beautiful and wonderful things - the more they become invisible to us. That is why we often take for granted the beauty of this world: the flowers, the trees, the birds, the clouds - even those we love. The upper Falls is easily accessed. About 300ft from the small parking area on side of road. No railings of any kind so mind children & pets carefully. the walk isn't too difficult until you get close to the actual falls. Then there are a few steep step downs. read more

There is roadside parking for this hike immediately south/west of the Fall Creek bridge.  For most people and for most of the year this will be a short and not very strenuous hike that just requires some caution because the trail to the base of the falls is rocky and somewhat steep. The lower falls trail probably isn't a good idea for older people or people with limited mobility.  If temperatures have dipped below freezing overnight then you need to be extra careful as any rocks that appear wet may actually be covered in ice. In the wintertime I don't think it's overly cautious to bring microspikes. I can't believe there are people who think it's okay to sit on the overhangs at the top of the canyon; you can just look around and see the signs of hundreds of past rockfalls big and small. Be safe and keep in mind that rocks are continually falling from the cliff walls. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE!! A short and sweet, quick down and up. Not even a mile round trip. From the "parking space" to the TOP of the waterfall is .2 miles, if that. Dogs were not allowed but there were tons there. A cop was also there giving tickets to people parked in the street though there's hardly any place to park on a Saturday because it's literally off the road... Once you get to the bottom. The pool and waterfall are exquisite!! So beautiful! Tread carefully, steep-ish. Not much of a hike but plan to swim read more

A 110 foot drop from the top of the falls is insane. It was very beautiful and clean. No trash was found on site. It is a little rough to get to the base of the falls with slippery rocks and steep terrain but it's totally worth it. read more

My husband and I only walked to the top of the falls, but it was a very enjoyable stop. It's a short, fairly easy walk. The paths are basically rock, so I expect they could be slippery at times. The view of the gorge was lovely. There's a map by the parking area, but we didn't see any indication how long the paths were. We were on our way back from Gatlinburg, heading back home to Nashville. We had some time to kill and by chance were literally driving by this place when I searched for falls on the interstate. We back tracked and little and found it. The parking lot here is small, like 6 cars maybe, but you can also park across the two lane highway. There's a board that tells about the falls. Looking at the sign, if you walk to the left, you'll end up at the top of the falls. CAREFUL because there isn't any warning, it just appears. If there wasn't a group of locals eating at the top, we wouldn't have seen it. (On YouTube, you can see someone go over the top in a kayak. NO THANKS). We stop by in the beginning of October, and they'd had a drought because the falls was more like a trickle. We decided to see it from the bottom. There isn't a trail to the bottom, just a path that is over large rocks. I didn't find it too much of a struggle, but I could see where some would find it too much. The path down to the bottom is to the right of the sign, you actually walk down when you see the brick wall right next to the highway. We made it down and it's an amazing view from the bottom. I would love to see it when it's really roaring with water falling. read more

This has to be one of Tennessee's hidden gems. It's absolutely GORGEOUS! I can't believe it hasn't been reviewed yet! An easy walk gets you to the top of the falls. Another moderate short, steep hike gets you to the bottom of the falls. Along the way, you will encounter narrow caves with dripping springs & beautiful scenery. At the base of the falls, there is a trail & you can walk a full 360 degrees around the waterfall. There were a few people swimming @ the base of the falls. Warning: wear hiking shoes... Hidden Gem, right off the highway. Easy short walk to top of the falls. No guardrails so use CAUTION with children, keep them close, hold their hands! It can be very slippery after rain. This is a 110' waterfall with a beautiful swimming hole at the bottom. Yes, the water will be chilly no matter what because it's spring water and runoff from the hilltops higher on the Cumberland Plateau. There are 2 different trails to get to the bottom. One you do have to walk along part of the highway to get to, so again, use caution, folks can fly around those curves. It's considered a "Natural Area" not an officially run state park so don't expect it to be ADA friendly. Hiking to the bottom is fun and fine for those with proper expectations. IMHO, probably not very suitable for any persons disabled or young children without proper adult supervision. It's rural hiking, so don't expect any paved paths and be aware of loose rocks and during warmer seasons, critters and poison ivy. But nothing the novice hiker or outdoorsman/woman shouldn't already know. The area seems very large because of the vastness of the falls, but be aware that private property is close by and starting not too far downstream is private land, so be advised you don't end up trespassing on private property! So until the connection to the CT is complete, there aren't any extensive trails to hike beside down to the falls, around & back up to the top. read more

There's a small parking area right off the road, otherwise more parking is available across the road near the train trestle. The walk to the top of the falls is easy and short. We were surprised that the overlook is wide open, no railing or fences to keep people from getting too close to the edge. So watch your kids and dogs at the top. The walk to the bottom of the falls is where you get the full glory. It's quite steep hiking down rocks so go slow. We walked around the small pool at the bottom and felt the mist on us the whole time, so lovely. Make sure and walk behind the falls too for the full effect. If it's warm out and you remembered your suit, enjoy the pool. A very beautiful 110' fall, worth seeing. read more

This is a great quick spot right off the road. You can walk to the top easy; about 1/4 mile. If you're going to the bottom to swim it's a little more involved and a little bit of a climb back up. The water is cool but swimmable. I would say go enjoy a picnic at the top of the stream- water was a little too cool for me. It can get rather busy so go early. read more

This was my first time to see a waterfall in person. (As opposed to photos, or television) It did not disappoint! This was also my first hiking experience, and I was ill prepared as our shoes did not have enough grip. Still we managed to make it down in one piece with just a few wobbles and I will be better prepared the next time. Beautiful scenery, and the hike would have been fun in better shoes! read more

It's a hike down to the falls but I wouldn't really call it a hike. It's literally right on the side of the highway. The visitors are a little sketchy and the area is littered with trash and broken glass. I wonder if the trash is blown down from the highway? The waterfall is truly breathtaking and worth the trip, just not sure I would go again. read more

Place was beautiful. We showed up late so we didn't quite make it down to the pool at the bottom. It looked like we had one more section of rocks to traverse but it had become pitch black. We could just make out the bottom using a flashlight. We saw it from the top as the sun was setting though. It was a gorgeous display of nature. I recommend highly making the time to see this. Especially fun for people who like a little hike. read more

Loved it! Very easy to do the upper trail to see the top of the falls. No special shoes required as it is a short easy walk. Parking can be a little tight but we were ok parking the big truck across the street. This is a natural area and no place for very young children as a fall is quite possible. The lower trail started out too steep for us without good boots. And there is poison ivy around so I didn't attempt it. read more
