    Espresso martini

I've only been here for HH but that's also the reason I keep coming back! The vibes are good, and I really enjoy grabbing some cocktails and HH foods when the weather is nice and the window walls are wide open. There are a variety of HH drink and food options available, though they don't make it easy to view. Instead of a separate HH menu, they note it on the main menus up in the right-hand corner of each page. Happy house is every day from 4-6 pm. So far I've enjoyed the foods I've tried (skewers, karaage, ca roll). I especially enjoy their pandan espresso martini, and always appreciate when places make them unique. A must try! Lastly, the bartenders have always been great and are more than willing to let you try a drink and/or make you a new one if you don't love the one you ordered.

The staff was incredible- polite, knowledgeable, and efficient. I ordered the hamachi collar and it was delicious. Great menu selection which included drink specials and sushi rolls. My only complaint was it was very loud and hard to hear conversations from your group.

Soooo delicious! Service was amazing, they were so attentive through start to finish. Some of the most fresh sashimi in the Bay Area! The ambiance is so nice, perfect place for some photos! Nice dimly lit place, just overall gorgeous. So much bang for your buck, everything was amazingly priced! Especially for Santana Row!! If you're in the area, I'd absolutely recommend!

My friend got me a gift card for my birthday in 2025 and I finally got around to using it for my birthday in 2026. I avoid Santana Row because of the parking situation so came on a Monday evening, hoping traffic wouldn't be as bad during this time. Luckily was able to find parking pretty easily. I made a reservation on opentable but the restaurant was pretty open given that it was a monday so maybe it wasn't necessary. We decided to split the Negima skewers as an appetizer. I had the chirashi as my entree and my partner had the ozumo roll. Service was very prompt and friendly. The aesthethics of the restaurant was very romantic. Definitely a great place to have a date night. My partner shies away from raw fish and actually really enjoyed my chirashi. His ozumo roll was tasty and so were the negima skewers. Very lovely dinner spot!

Came here on a Friday evening for a date night. Got a reservation the day before with no trouble. Started with the hitokuchi and the edamame. The hitokuchi was the best thing I had the night. The salmon was melt-in-your-mouth fresh and the rice was perfectly crispy. The crispy rice will get stuck in your teeth. The edamame was a letdown by comparison. Way too salty for my taste. Moved on to the aburi and spider rolls. The aburi was fine, but the flavor was mostly coming from the sauce. The spider roll was the one to get. The crab was tasty and the sauce pulled it all together really well. I'm not usually a cocktail person, but the martini here changed my mind. Really well made. The space feels upscale. Dim lighting, intimate setting. Service was attentive without hovering, which is exactly what you want on a date. That said, I think this place might actually shine more with a group. Lots to share and explore on the menu.

The "happy hour" gyozas for $12. Whereas normally it's $16 for 5. $4 per gyoza $3.20... super deceptive
    Rachel A.

This review is because they're deceptive with their pricing. We went for happy hour and their gyozas were $12 but actually 2 less gyozas than normal (3 instead of 5) so the price per gyoza is actually higher than regular price $16 for 5 gyozas. That's super shady. Added menu as proof. Our server (who was lovely) came to apologize cause he was also surprised happy hour only gave 3 gyozas cause he'd told us it came with 5. Food has also gone down in quality over the years which has been disappointing.

Came here for lunch on a Friday - I really liked the dishes I liked, and very much did not like the ones I didn't. There was not a lot of middle ground here. Let's start with the positives, because there were definitely some highlights. The Dragon Crunch roll was a favorite - great texture, full-bodied flavor, and just overall well executed. The hamachi appetizer was also excellent. Fresh, clean flavors, and exactly what I want when I order hamachi, and there was a lot too it that made it really interesting The broccolini surprised me in a good way too - simple, but flavorful and cooked well. Atmosphere-wise, it was a really nice spot for a weekday lunch. Very uncrowded and chill. We even got to watch the Winter Olympics on TV while we ate. Service was kind and attentive. Now for the negatives. I would not recommend the tartare. I couldn't finish it because I just didn't like the flavor at all. It came with a fried rice paper to scoop it with, but it didn't add any flavor and just made the meat taste even more oily. So overall, some dishes I would absolutely reorder, and others I would skip entirely.

Overall: B-/C+ Had a few rolls (rainbow, spider, and a specialty roll), tofu, karaage chicken, and tempura udon. Food quality was mid and the rolls were on the smaller side. Great ambiance for happy hour, so could see myself going back there with colleagues for a drink.

I went solo on a Friday night. The hostess sat me at the sushi bar. There was another solo diner sitting next to me. The waiter took his order then disappeared for over 10 minutes before taking mine. I ordered the black cod and it was fall apart delicious. No sides came with it. Small piece of fish and 1 old fashioned to a total of $72 and I left the restaurant hungry. The server did not check on me and I had to ask 3 times for a fork. Overall the food was good but I can't recommend this restaurant.

Delicious food and friendly staff. Lots of seating, nice and upscale decor. The food service was a bit slow, but otherwise a great experience! Favorites: pork belly skewers and the honcho roll.

    Kakuni

While staying in San Jose for a work trip, I visited Ozumo with a friend on a weekday. The food and service was solid, though there was a billing issue that we managed to get resolved the following day! We started the meal with the kakuni and the hanabi as our small plates, and both were delicious. The kakuni (braised pork belly) was so tender, and the hanabi dish was fresh and flavorful. For our mains, we decided to share the dragon crunch roll, ozumo roll, and yaki udon with beef. Both of the rolls were very good and not too overly saucy as these types of specialty rolls can sometimes be. The yaki udon was also good but not as much of a highlight as the rest of the meal was. Once my friend and I had paid our bill, I realized later that night on my receipt that they charged us for an entire bottle of alcohol when all we consumed was water. I ended up going back to the restaurant in person the next day and they kindly refunded us which was nice.

You can't disappoint in Santana row. Such a wonderful place to go out on a date night. This area is so lively and can spend hours here just people watching. Went here to this sushi joint and had some sake; sushi; and rollls and beer. The food options were amazing and went for chefs choice along with Sake tasting. Service was great and friendly.

I went on a Saturday, had reservations for 6 pm. It wasn't crowded at all. We were seating right away outside, which is a quaint little area with heat lamps above you. Service was a tad slow in the beginning, but friendly. I've been here a couple years ago and always loved the food. I ordered an espresso martini and like 20 min later the waitress comes back with the other drinks saying they were out of the espresso martini then left the table. I didn't want to go through the long wait again so I just got a Diet Coke which they serve in cute little glass bottles. I ended up getting the Midori salad with the sesame dressing on the side, and an order of chicken yakatori. I would get this meal again it was super good, I loved the chicken!! Putting the chicken in my salad was also incredible. Garlic edamame was soooo good too!

Call the restaurant directly to plan it!

Is it required to show proof of vaccination now?

    Nope!

Are gift cards still available during the pandemic? If so, is it a set limit or customizable?

We do have a few vegan options. In the next month as we get closer to serving guests inside the restaurant as well as outdoors we will be serving a larger variety of gluten/free options.

The restaurant is small and somehow they are able to pack a few tables in for guests. Luckily, I did make that reservation and we both got there before opening (5:30pm) so we beat the rush hour dinner time. We were promptly seated and they took our drink and asked if we were ready. We were busy catching up and weren't ready and they came twice and so we just decided the bento box because we were both hungry. While the bento looked smaller than others I've been to. The quality was there and the food was just perfect. I really enjoyed the food at Izakaya. The sashimi cuts of ahi tuna is amazing, while not as big as others that are non-traditional Japanese restaurants. I love the quality and the food they offer. My friend and I both got a bento box and everything was delicious. The servers do come in and check on you regularly which I appreciated and they are really quick to get the food to you. Overall, I enjoyed the food and service and I would definitely come here and make sure I'm first in line!

We're glad we picked here to show them what the Bay Area can do in terms of more authentic Japanese food. The decor is traditional and not fancy, but comfortable and clean. The shishito peppers were really tasty, not too hot, pleasantly hot. Edamame was typical, nothing really special, but it's a bit difficult to really elevate edamame. The braised pork was good and the lean parts were easy to selectively eat. Nothing here is aggressively seasoned, but also not at all bland, so it's a good balance of flavorful but not overbearing. The grilled chicken wings were okay, but nothing outstanding or memorable - but simple and fine. Our "main" dishes, the deluxe meshi, nike tofu, and okonomiyaki were all great! Really enjoyed all of them and they were again flavorful, authentic tasting, and generous portions to share. Wish this were a little closer to where we live, but we enjoy coming here whenever we do and I recommend this for trying more traditional dishes when you want something different than simple teriyaki and sushi rolls.

We ordered the Niku Trio Set, which included braised pork, grilled chicken wings, niku tofu, edamame, and shishito. The food came out really quickly. Other than the edamame, which was very bland, everything was very flavorful. The pork was very soft, and the sliced thin beef paired really well with the tofu in the niku tofu. Both dishes came piping hot, and were very comforting, like home-cooked food. The shishito peppers came with a lot of bonito flakes; they're charred very well and not spicy at all. Wings well nicely grilled, too. The seafood okonomiyaki was not bad. It's a bit softer than I expected, but had quite a lot of seafood. The large Deluxe Meshi was pretty big. It came in a hot stone pot with a generous amount of salmon, eel, flying fish roe and a poached egg. I loved how crispy the rice around the pot was. No wonder it's their most popular dish. If you like authentic Japanese food, I would highly recommend this place.

We didn't have to wait and were immediately sat at the bar. Total was about $60 a person but we ordered ALOT, including 2 sake drinks, 2 shitake mushroom skewers, knee cartilage, short rib, ikura grilled rice ball, 2 chicken hearts, 2 shishito peppers, two tofus, oyster chicken, and probably more. I'm honestly a sucker for tapas-sized items because I love trying a variety of things when I eat, so I think I naturally would rate this place higher. Also not a ton of yakitori places in the East Bay so very little competition. Pros: - Honestly, pretty good meat skewers. My standout favorites were the chicken hearts, the kalbi short ribs, the mushrooms. I liked the crunch of the chicken hearts and the tenderness of the kalbi cubes, and I like that there's some non-meat options like the tofu and peppers to cleanse yourself a little bit. - Really easy ordering system, with paper and pencil. - Great for parties of 1-2, my friend and I were right at the bar and we got to watch the skewers cook and have them handed right to us. I think because we were seated here, I felt like the service was really fast. - Because it wasn't too busy on a Tuesday night, even though it says there's a 90 min seated wait time, we were there well over 2 hours (but also maybe because we kept ordering lol) - Plenty of easy parking spots in this plaza - All the staff were nice - Nice dark Japanese street food bar like ambiance, great for a casual night out Cons: - not great for parties of more than 2, there's a few booths in the restaurant that could fit 4 people maybe but I could see a long wait if it's a busy night. - The chicken items (other than the chicken hearts) were subpar in my opinion (which I guess shouldn't be surprising) so I won't be ordering them again Overall, I would definitely come back, but maybe order 1-2 dishes fewer and avoid the fried rice ball (I loved the ikura on this but felt like I could do without it).

Cute little spot, with some of their booths covered by curtains for privacy. The staff call out a friendly welcome as you are being seated. A handful of different staff members came by to help me; whether that was to take my order, deliver my food, or pour me some extra water. I wasn't exactly sure who my server was, but each of them were friendly and helpful. I ordered the mini beef don (beef rice bowl) and the tonkatsu deluxe, which included both the kakuni and the chashu. The chashu is sliced thin and flavorful, without tasting gamey. The Kakuni is very tender and rich, with more meat than fat. I also really enjoyed the broth and seeing the pork fat cooked in & well integrated into the overall dish. Noodles were the perfect texture too! I will definitely be back for another ramen soon!

Such a weird experience from start to finish. Even before we were seated, the host kept saying,…read more"I'll seat your party, but they all need to be here," and then added, "This is the only time I'll do this for you." It already felt oddly hostile for no reason. Funny enough, this will probably also be the only time we come back. We ordered fried squid, but they brought the wrong dish. Our waiter who was genuinely lovely the entire time told us not to worry and said we could just keep it. Our kids started eating it, and then a few minutes later he came back looking embarrassed because the manager told him he had to take it back. After the kids had already eaten some of it. Super awkward and honestly not the waiter's fault at all. Then later the same manager came over to tell us we couldn't drink an outside beverage at the table. Totally understand restaurants having policies, but the way everything was handled just felt cold and uncomfortable. The food itself was decent, and the waiter did his best, but overall the experience was bizarre because of the management. With so many other great spots around with better hospitality, I don't think we'd come back.
