A bit unassuming from the outside, Fuji is a great hole in the wall Japanese spot serving up authentic Japanese food in the downtown SJ area. Street parking will be your best bet here and luckily we found a spot right out front but we would believe that is not common so prepare for that. The interior feels authentic with bamboo strewn throughout and everything feels very homey and relaxed. Service is good and the place has a very local vibe despite being off one of the main streets downtown. We made reservations, which at first seemed unnecessary but while we were there it started to fill up pretty quickly. We ordered quickly and began with an appetizer of avocado tempura which was light and tasty. The mixture of the tempura crunch and buttery avocado was great and this will become our go to appetizer order when available from now on, delicious. For main courses we ordered their plain ramen and tonkatsu curry. The ramen was pretty average, hitting the spot on a rainy night in SJ with a thick, flavorful broth. The curry was out of this world, easily the best Japanese style curry we've ever had. It was hearty and warm, just an absolute monster of a dish that is the definition of a comfort dish. Fuji is just so unassuming from the outside, but it is a really good spot we think shines amongst the various restaurants and quick bites available downtown. Make sure to stop by when you're around!

Me and my husband have been on the hunt for a sushi spot and I think we finally found it. I apologize for not having better pictures but phone did not eat first. My husband had the sushi combo plate that came with miso, salad, 5 pieces of nigiri (chefs choice), and a tempura roll. This was the steal of the night, such a good price and so delicious! I tried the spicy crunch roll and max roll. Everything was super fresh and delicious. I was left feeling so satisfied and happy. The service was prompt and good. The sushi chefs were sweet too and said goodbye on our way out. The restaurant is decorated so fun too. Can't wait to come back and try more!

Took my son here for his 9th birthday because he requested to have Lion King roll for dinner. It was amazing! We got the bento box (agedashi tofu, beef teriyaki, and pork katsu) plus 3 sushi rolls - Godzilla, I Like Eel, and Lion King. The rolls were pretty standard but tasty/fresh. What stood out to us was the bento box. Pork katsu was fried perfectly with the right crunch. Agedashi tofu and the beef was both really delicious. Came with miso soup, rice, and salad. The staffs were really friendly and nice. I told one of the staffs secretly that it was my son's birthday and they prepared a really nice treat for him along with candle! Fried banana with matcha ice cream. The whole restaurant sang for him and he had a great time. Thank you to all the staffs. Will definitely be back again!

Nice and cozy place downtown. We ordered quickly and the staff were attentive. We had Bento boxes with chicken teriyaki, salmon teriyaki, Korean barbecue and chicken katsu, Max roll, and Spicy Ramen and an Asahi beer. The food was great and freshly cooked. The restrooms were also large and clean. We enjoyed ourselves.

    Sushi Omakase Special

I came here to eat on my birthday and was greeted and seated immediately, although it took me some time to find parking due to the area being quite busy. The restaurant itself is charming, with Japanese style decorations and photos of previous guests hanging on the walls. I ordered the Omakase special, Uni nigiri, and Ikura nigiri, probably my 3 favorite sushi items. The Omakase came with a salad and some miso soup. While I enjoyed my dinner I do feel like the quality of the fish could have been better. Overall, I did feel like it was worth what I paid. Would consider returning here again!

    Edamame, dragon roll, combo A

I was craving sushi the other week, and while this place "scratched the itch," nothing particularly stood out to me! We ordered the spicy edamame and I ordered the combo A (with the dragon roll) while my boyfriend ordered the chef's choice nigiri. First, the edamame was delicious! It was arguably more garlicky than spicy, but I thought these were some of the better flavored edamame I've had. The dragon roll was a pretty standard specialty roll. It was a decent serving and I liked both the shrimp tempura and sauces. I thought my nigiri and shashimi was only OK - even the toro and salmon didn't stand out, and those are normally my favorite. The whole selection didn't seem overly fresh, especially considering the general area and access to fresh fish; to be clear, the fish certainly wasn't stale, but it just didn't have a crisp, rich flavor. My boyfriend also felt that his chef's choice nigiri was just OK, which was disappointing given that we paid a little more for supposedly better options. As for service, the staff was nice, but my gripe is that our edamame, miso soup and salad all came out at the same time, followed very shortly after by our entrees. Not only did we run out of space on our table, but I felt like the staff kept coming back to clear items when we weren't done, and it was a little disruptive. Given that we picked this spot for date night, it would've been nice to spend a little more time at dinner with a more spaced out meal. Given the number of sushi places around, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back. However, this is probably a good neighborhood spot!

Miso soup (came with tonkatsu curry)
    Yuki K.

Jalapeno bomb (their version of jalapeno poppers) isn't too spicy but still has a bit of a kick. Tonkatsu curry is just okay imo - seems like they purposely added wayyy too much water so it watered down the taste of Japanese curry a bit, which already isn't heavily spiced. It wasn't too bland though. I could still taste the salt and a bit of curry spice. The dish came with plenty of carrots, onions, and either cucumber or zucchini (both of which also release a lot of water when cooked). The tonkatsu is tender but lost most of its crisp after being doused in the curry. Miso soup (tasted pretty standard) comes with this dish. We also ordered the I Like Eel roll (8 piece roll with unagi and cucumber and covered with unagi pieces and unagi sauce) which was delicious and soft!

Bento box with 2 items: Salmon Teri and Cali Roll.
    Tina N.

Definitely solid for your bento fix go-to. Haven't been here for awhile but was back for our coworkers' birthdays last week. Not too many sushi restaurants do Bento boxes anymore and if they do it's only for lunch. (Hard for me to wrap my head around this. Listen up BUSINESSES, if you need to raise the price do it, but bring them back!!) So typical, but I always love California Rolls. I feel rooted to my years working at Sushi Lovers in Milpitas. And the salmon teriyaki was good. This place is always cozy and like a friend that never let's you down, is always there when you need a foodie hug. Xoxo

Curb Parking by the restaurant was limited so it was quite a walk from the parking lot which cost $20 prepaid! Made a reservation for 4 and arrived at the specific time , so got seated pretty quick!! A bar seating by the sushi counter and few dine in tables for 2-4 made place cozy ! An outdoor patio group seating is available too! Ordered my favorite appetizer " Soft Shell Crab" ... good size crunchy battered and delicious crab! Hubby and I shared a tempura meal including a salad! Service was great with servers filling up our hot tea cups ! Will come visit again but gotta find a better parking space!

Not sure why I haven't been here before, since it's right down the street but I decided to give this place a shot today and I'm so glad I did! I just ordered a poke bowl today (delicious 5/5) but I see they have sushi boats so I'll definitely be back. The service was so great too, the two ladies helping us out were so attentive.

    Hawaiian Rainbow Roll Spider Roll
    Siya J.

As a longtime sushi lover and Yelp Elite who's eaten my way through more rolls than I can count, I really wanted to love Fuji Sushi... but this visit landed right in the middle for me. I ordered two rolls: the Spider Roll and the Hawaiian Rainbow Roll. Spider Roll: The presentation was clean and the portion size was solid, but the flavor was just okay. The soft-shell crab was a bit on the soggy side instead of that crispy, crunchy bite you hope for. Hawaiian Rainbow Roll: This one had great potential. The fish was fresh and the colors were beautiful, but the roll itself felt slightly loose and fell apart quicker than it should've. The toppings were good, but the flavor didn't quite pop the way I expected for a specialty roll. Service was friendly and quick, and the restaurant itself is comfortable , but easy for a casual sushi night. Prices were fair for the area. Overall, Fuji Sushi is a decent spot if you're nearby, but nothing really stood out enough to make it a must-return for me. I'd give it another shot if I'm in the neighborhood, but I'll probably explore other sushi options first.

Cozy intimate sushi spot with soft lighting and bamboo furnishings offering a variety of food options from sushi and bento boxes, to curry dishes and ramen. We ordered seafood ramen, dynamite rolls, and bento boxes with 3 items. Very generous portions and reasonably priced. Exceptional service. Now this is my sushi spot on downtown San Jose.

Assorted sashimi plate (regular - 12 piece)
    Riley K.

Sushi is super fresh. Service is always quick, thorough and respectful. Ambiance is intimate. We've been coming here for years and consider ourselves to be very picky when it comes to sushi given we've had access to freshly caught Alaskan fish from relatives. Everything on the menu is great but one of the best deals is the assorted sashimi plate that comes with soup and salad.

It did feel a bit cramped but fortunately I was just in and out. Service was great too! We got the Lion King and a sashimi platter. The lion king was SOOO good. I always get worried ordering this at new sushi spots because I feel like it can be a hit or miss (especially when they load waaay too much spicy mayo on it lol) - this roll had the perfect amount where it wasn't too overpowering. The ingredients tasted fresh too! As for the sashimi platter - every piece was thick and fresh. I'd definitely come back for takeout! Make sure you call ahead of time.

Spotting a delicious-looking sashimi plate at the next seat made me eager to try their sushi. The menu featured a wide variety of dishes, including sushi rolls, soups, and specialty plates. Still, I found myself not fully in the mood, likely because I was disappointed about Flaming Ox. I ordered a dragon roll and, craving California rolls, decided to get two. My daughter chose the chicken teriyaki plate and really enjoyed it. The sushi was so fresh that I saved my extra California rolls for lunch the next day. I'd definitely return to try more of their beautiful rolls or sashimi plates. Service was decent overall. We waited a bit to place our order, but the food arrived promptly. There was a moment when our server took a while to return, and I grew so thirsty I almost went searching for him myself. Fortunately, another server noticed and quickly brought me water. When I looked at DoorDash, the bento box listed there didn't include the potstickers or California rolls. Ordering directly through the restaurant's website to get the full meal added about $12 in extra fees which made it much less appealing. Overall, the food was good and the in-person pricing felt reasonable. I'd happily dine here again but if you're considering delivery, be aware that you'll pay significantly more and may not get the same meal options.

This is the kind of place where you can bring friends and family without breaking the bank or stressing about atmosphere. Good sushi, fair pries, friendly service...sometimes that's exactly what you need. I've been here a few times now and it's been worth adding to my regular rotation.

Birthday Fireworks, Family Memories & Elevated Dining at Trifecta…read more My husband and I celebrated our birthdays at Trifecta this year with our children, and it turned into such a memorable evening. Our neighbors first introduced us to this family-owned gem, and one of the things that keeps us coming back is the genuinely warm and personable service. You can truly feel the care they put into both the food and the dining experience. While my son and I aren't huge seafood or sushi eaters, we can absolutely appreciate the artistry behind Trifecta's sushi. Every dish is beautifully presented, thoughtfully crafted, and made with incredibly fresh ingredients and elevated garnishes. We're just admittedly picky eaters who tend to gravitate toward our comfort favorites like chicken or beef teriyaki. The restaurant is usually packed, so reservations are definitely recommended if you don't want a long wait. Surprisingly, this visit was a little quieter than usual, which made for a nice relaxed atmosphere. My husband and daughter were interested in trying the Chef's Tasting Menu, but we learned it's designed as a full-table dining experience where everyone participates -- something we may plan for another visit. The standout dishes of the night were definitely the corn ribs and chicken karaage. The corn ribs disappeared before I could even snap a photo because everyone devoured them immediately! My family also loved the Pork Adobo Ribs special. I'll admit, Trifecta is more of a special occasion restaurant for us. The bill can climb quickly, especially with multiple sushi lovers at the table, but the quality, creativity, service, and overall experience absolutely reflect that higher-end dining experience. This isn't your average weekly sushi spot -- it's a place you go to celebrate. To top off the night, the staff surprised us with dessert decorated with sparkling light-up fireworks, which made our birthday celebration feel extra festive and thoughtful. The only downside of the evening had nothing to do with the restaurant itself -- unfortunately, a couple at a nearby table was quite loud, drunk, and disruptive. Thankfully, the incredible food and attentive staff still made the night feel special overall. Highly recommended for celebrations, date nights, and anyone looking for elevated food paired with exceptional hospitality.

I'm not sure if it's different when they are running their normal hours, but the space is a bit tight when it came to seating. Our courses were tasty, unfortunately, it did not blow me away compared to other omakases/tasting menus I've had. The tuna cutting experience was really cool, seeing the chef's break down an entire tuna and then serving it to guests. My section was nearly last to line up for the buffet, and while it was AYCE, there wasn't much selection left. The handroll portion that you'd scrape off the bone was nearly gone on our first turn. Overall, fun experience and great service.
