Tomi Sushi is my go to when craving sushi. Good quality and the service is the best. Maki is the G.O.A.T. She always puts a smile on my face when I see her. Their lunch menu is slightly different from their dinner. From prices to portions. They also sometimes serve salmon soup instead of the typical miso soup for lunch. I like it, it's a nice change. They're closed on Tuesdays, and closed everyday between 1:30-5:00. It's a small restaurant and there's often a wait. If you ask me, its worth the wait. read more

I came here one Friday evening and arrived 5 minutes before opening, there was already many people waiting in line. However, for 2 people, I were able to still be seated immediately after opening. This restaurant has a variety of fish and specials that change weekly. Everything is reasonably priced for what you get. For two people, we ordered the sushi dinner that provided a variety of fish which also came with a miso soup and salad. The fish quality was good. Also got the combination dinner with tempura and sashimi. The tempura had a lot of vegetable variety (carrot, bell pepper, kabocha, sweet poato - 2 pieces of each) and 2 pieces of shrimp. The sashimi came with 3 pieces of salmon and 3 pieces of tuna. Tuna was my favorite. This combo also came with some miso soup, salad and rice. For appetizer we also ordered some smelt tempura (shisamo). It came with three smelt that had lots of eggs, and tempura sauce. Crispy, easy to eat the head to bones, but a touch under salted. For the day that I visited, they had a special of Sea Bass Nigiri (hirasuzuki). There was a bit too much wasabi so hard to taste the fish. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, especially the hamachi toro and toro, which were rich, buttery, and honestly the standout of the night. We also ordered the aji, caterpillar roll, spicy tuna roll, seaweed salad, and miso soup. The caterpillar roll was super satisfying with great texture, and the spicy tuna actually had flavor instead of just drowning in sauce like a lot of places do. Even the small details were done right. I enjoy coming here, and I have been here multiple times over the recent years. The food has been pretty spot on, and prices are expected. But last night I came by and ordered the tempura dinner and it came out looking burnt. If you look at other photos of the tempura, the batter looks fluffy and well done. But my tempura was over fried and just not very good. Besides that, the sushi is decent and recently went up in price. They have rotating specials and the servers are generally very hospital. I am definitely coming back and I am sorry to leave a negative review, I only hope my review is seen and quality is enforced. Next time, I will be sure to complain. read more

Tomi Sushi has been our go to sushi spot since Sushi Tei closed down, and it continues to impress. They always have a wide selection of fresh cuts of fish, and I love how appetizers and dishes are written out on paper posted on the walls around the restaurant. We ordered the omakase nigiri set. It comes with a bowl of miso soup, lightly fried shrimp head, and 10 pieces of nigiri chosen by the chef. We also ordered sliced mackerel and a grilled yellowtail fin. The miso soup had a really rich sweet dash broth, and the shrimp was fried perfectly. My favorite nigiri was the thinly sliced engawa, halibut fin, which was lightly salted with lemon on top. It had a light crunchy texture while still being fatty. The anago, eel, was really fresh and flaky. I also really liked the smoky char on the grilled yellowtail, dipping it in soy sauce. read more

Came here for a sushi lunch for 1 and had a good experience. I ordered a few random nigiri pieces and a roll for lunch. The lunch came with miso soup, which included a chunk of salmon. The soup was excellent, however, the salmon was very bony and even after picking most of bones out of the soup and off the salmon, my mouth still found one. That said, the nigiri was excellent! The only real negatives of the experience were the bone and the parking! Strawberry Park has notoriously bad parking, so if you have a reservation, try to show up early. read more

Visited during the middle of lunch crowd during the weekday. Sat at the sushi bar. Lots of menu options: omikase, special of the day & regular menu. Including a descent selection of plant forward items when wanting a break from animal protein. 3 sushi chefs and 2 wait staff managing busy lunch crowd in dimly lit restaurant making me feel I'm dining in an old fishing hut in Japan. Colleague ordered bento box and a california roll, portion was enough for her to make two meals. I thoroughly enjoyed my plant forward selection of steamed spinach with bonito flakes, vegetarian roll (surprisingly much pricier than other rolls), and the grilled eggplant. One of my favourite date night is four dollar sign omakase. But obviously that's not realistic on a frequent basis. When I'm craving for one of those date nights but don't want to spend four dollar signs, we go to Sushi Tomi!! We always know that we'll be happy because that's what Sushi Tomi is - reliable! We always ONLY get their nigiris (from their a-la-carte nigiri menu, not the sets) and we sometimes think that the freshness of their fish rival other high end sushi restaurants. IMO this is the best way to eat here - only get their nigiri's and try your best to order from their handwritten special fish menu. They probably make less money from fresh nigiri than a cooked bento box so that's why I think it's a better bang for your buck!! Their scallops and tuna are very good - the baseline for a good sushi spot ;) Uni can vary sometimes but still very good for a day to day spot. We also love the Eel Roll!!!! We get it each time and I always alternate between the nigiri's and the eel roll for the perfect bites! We've never tried their omakase as I enjoy selecting my preferred nigiris instead at a place like this. Before going, set your expectations and know that it will usually be at least a 30 minute wait for weekend dinners. Though annoying, I think it's a testament that I'm not the only one that think this is a great place! There is no online waitlist, you must be physically present to put your name down. I find that the wait here is shorter than the Mountain View location and the atmosphere is more comfortable as it's more spacious and quiet. While I love the nigiri's, a growth area for them is their service. They can be slow at times with getting items (such as chopsticks or refilling tea) but it doesn't stop us from thinking that's it's one of our favourite spots! read more

I didn't know this was related to a popular sushi spot in Mountain View called Sushi Tomi. When I lived in the area, it was my go to spot in town as it had a good balance of fresh fish and delicious sushi options for the right price. The trade off often is the line you had to wait if you didn't just order pickup over the phone. This was true here at Tomi Sushi (confusing right) too. This is not to be confused with the AYCE Tomi Sushi Buffet which friends from outside often get confused with due to google and such. Anyways, if you have been to the Mountain View location, then its more or less the same. If not, its a slightly larger location but still very much busy. They have their usual menu and paper menu to fill out as well as specials on the walls you should look out for if you want a hidden find. The staff are all super friendly. All the reasons why Mountain View location was great translates here as well (including the busy parking lot :)) read more

We only wanted to order their set lunch to have minimum carbs for lunch . My friend ordered salmon sashimi, teriyaki chicken . I ordered the tuna and salmon sashimi with grilled Saba . Mine comes with salad . Both lunch comes with soup ( today is salmon soup with fresh vegetables) , rice and fruit . I enjoyed the grilled Saba . It was seasoned with and grilled to perfection. Today I got a big pieces of fish like 8 oz . It was delicious. However there were tiny bones on the side . You must be careful not to swallow any . I love the salmon soup more than the regular miso soup . There was big bones inside too and needed to be careful as well . The tuna and salmon sashimi were fresh and delicious. I got 6 thick pieces and was very full. My friend loved his chicken , it was tender and flavorful. Larger portions than usually . It was probably 10 oz of chicken. Both lunch bento were $19.99 each . Craving sashimi, came for early weekday dinner, surprised how many customers were already seated. Then I was not really surprised, Tomi Sushi has always been a local favorite. Craving sated with Chirashi bowl. There are 3 versions and I picked the middle one. Good fish selection and rice seasoned just right. The shrimp tempura was excellently balanced with veggies and starch. The tobiko sushi and spider roll were basically desserts. :-) The house white wine was, I think, Sauvignon Blanc. It pains me to say it, but the quality of food has dramatically gone done in the last year. We've been coming since around 2017 regularly and were dedicated to them through Covid. Yesterday we both got an extra special chirashi as takeout and it was off. The uni was a greyish yellow white and hard, the toro was a pinkish brown tinge, and the unagi tasted like rubber. Eating around that, today we're in severe stomach and GI pain (I'll exclude other details). Yes, it's food poisoning from subpar fish. Any sushi chef worth their salt would not have sent out the terrible collection of what we got -- I suspect they're having their untrained kitchen staff assemble and don't care about quality or food safety. It really sucks to write this review after nearly a decade of great meals, but they need to fix things if we're to come back. Raise the prices so you aren't sending our crappy fish, fire offending staff for trained sushi chefs. Either of these would help read more

It does get really busy here and they close in the middle of the day, so be mindful of that. It does get pretty busy here so just know that it's loud and parking is a little bit difficult, but it is totally worth it. Well, it is quite loud in here. The employees do a great job at greeting and saying goodbye to everyone which makes it feel very home-y. They're has not been a time here where I have left upset with the amount of money paid or the taste of the food. This place is literally my gold standard for sushi. We saw a huge line waiting to get in before they opened so we naturally followed the line. We snagged the last table available for lunch. Service was quick. This place is authentic Japanese, not Chinese run Japanese. The soup is not the same salty miso paste. It was actually a seaweed, tofu broth with salmon, daikon and carrots. It was a very hearty soup. They even gave you a spare plate to deposit salmon bones. I had the tonkatsu bento with tempura. The tonkatsu was done just right crispy and juicy. When I was pregnant with my second child, I thought about it everyday and that was my first request to eat when I had my baby. I was intending to go to Tsujita for lunch but decided on Tomo Sushi instead as it seems a bit more authentic. How long before the authenticity of Japanese restaurants in the rest of SiVa fades away like in SJ Japantown? Antways, I ordered the lunch bento with chicken and beef teriyaki and a rainbow roll. Bento: miso soup was a step up from what you might normally get, including carrot, daikon, and fish. (The piece of fish did include bone and the server included a bowl for disposing of the bones.) You can taste the additional ingredients used to make the miso soup. The chicken teriyaki was moist but slightly overcooked so a bit dry in some of the end slices. The beef teriyaki was properly cooked for my taste, still some pink and red in the center of the slices, and I would get it by itself as a dinner option if it is consistently cooked like that. Nothing special about the salad. The orange included with the bento was sweet with slight tang. Rainbow roll: fish was fine, CA roll part in the middle was fine (artificial crab meat), the roll seemed of average size. I did notice that the ginger had a strong ginger taste, which is atypical, but I actually enjoyed that. Service was friendly but very occupied; water refills are something you have to specifically request when the place is busy like that. I think the place may have done some remodeling many years ago? Seats at the bar area are close to one another; the tables filled up quickly once the restaurant opened for lunch. Lot of parties came for the food and to socialize but noise level was ok. I think the wait at the restaurant wasn't that long because we came at 1 and didn't realize the restaurant closed at 1:30, but parking in this particular parking lot was infuriating -- it was like a Costco parking lot on a weekend except without any of the further parking spaces. We ended up parking at nearby residential street parking and walking over. The food was well worth the effort though. The lunch deals are actually decently priced, the sushi and sashimi fresh.
