Came here with a big group of friends, and we ordered a lot of food. Every single dish was absolutely delicious! The omakase box was not only beautifully presented but also incredibly fresh. Each piece of sushi was thick, high quality, and you could tell it was prepared with so much care and attention to detail. A huge shoutout to our servers, Alan and Henry. They checked on us throughout the meal and made sure we had everything we needed. Alan was especially knowledgeable--he introduced every type of fish on the table and explained each one with so much passion. It really made the experience even more enjoyable. Alan and Henry were also hilarious and made us feel so comfortable from start to finish. Great food, excellent service, and such a fun atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!

Rantei Japanese Cuisine was a nice spot in Santa Clara when we were craving fresh sushi, rolls, and donburi. The restaurant itself was nice and comfortable, and everything we ordered tasted fresh. The Kaisen Don was an 8/10. It was fresh and satisfying, but it does come with a lot of rice, so it fills you up pretty fast. I still enjoyed it, but the rolls and hand roll stood out more for me. The Golden Hand Roll was a 10/10 and easily one of the highlights. It had that premium, loaded hand roll feel with fresh ingredients and a good balance of flavor and texture. This is one of those items I'd definitely order again. For rolls, the Ginza Roll was a 9/10, while the White Dragon Roll and Rantei Roll were both 10/10. The White Dragon Roll had a nice mix of richness and freshness without feeling too heavy, and the Rantei Roll felt worth ordering as one of their signature-style rolls. Overall, Rantei is definitely a place I'd come back to when I'm in the mood for quality sushi in Santa Clara. The restaurant was nice, the food tasted fresh, and with multiple items hitting 10/10 for me, it's easy to see why this spot is worth keeping in rotation.

My first time at Rantei and everything was so good! It was pretty packed on a Friday night but my sister and I went on a walk until our table was ready so that was nice. What we ordered: Kaisen Don ~ comes with an assorted fish which included uni, hotate, blue fin toro, Kani and kura over rice. I rate it 5/5, it was super flavorful. Hand rolls: I can't remember the ones we got but I think there was so much packed in there that I didn't enjoy it! Fish taco: 2/5, I think it was the same as the hand rolls, just too much on top of it, the pico. Rantei roll: 5/5, so flavorful, I loved it! Lion long: Classico, 5/5! The staff: Everyone was so kind and always checked in on us! Great service, definitely will be returning!

Baby friendly and high chair available. Staff over July 4th weekend was great and accommodating. The beef skewer yakitori was the best I have ever had, perfectly cooked with juicy tenderness. I also loved the fresh Omakase sushi and the sake uni oyake don. Every bite was so good with perfect uni and rice. Parking was easy in a large parking lot and side street parking is plentiful.

This little gem is definitely worth every penny. Our party of 4 chose the tatami seating (traditional Japanese) which comes with a minimum spending amount of $200. Easily got that handled. We were served by Alan and his team: Henry and Christine. Service was one of the best I've had in the Bay Area. He went above and beyond. Our meal was nothing short of perfect. Every dish came out quickly and we didn't leave a bite behind.

Wow, nothing bad to write or say here about Rantei. I've always heard great reviews but never came around to trying this place but quite a drive for me and everyone said there's always a wait when you come here. I came here on a Wednesday for my friend's birthday dinner. I forgot what we ordered since my friends did the ordering, but everything I ate here was amazing. We got the 2 popular boxes (you can refer to my pictures to show the servers), yakitori chicken skin and chicken cartilage along with salmon belly. We also got beer and sake to celebrate my friend. I didn't know what to expect, but the boxes with the raw fish was so flavorful and refreshing. I love how they also seasoned the rice in the box because it added a touch to making the boxes umami. I was surprised that the Yakitori was good as well! Most restaurants specialize in one thing (assuming this would be sushi), but the skewers were impeccable and crispy. I'll be taking my other friends to come back here soon. :)

This place is so yummy! Ordered some rolls, sashimi and yakitori. We booked a private room ( 6 people, price minimum, gratuity included ) . The room was so nice and it's nice to take your shoes off! Food was delicious and prices seem reasonable. The only thing was that service seemed slow ( not sure if it was just the day). My faves were the salmon crunchy and volcano. Would recommend for a delicious sushi spot!

We got the sushi omakase (this is nigiri) and the sashimi omakase, and I think it was good - but certainly not great value. It's strange that, if you prefer nigiri over sashimi and want the rice - the sushi omakase option is significantly less food than the samshimi omakase option. The portions were not particularly generous, and the chosen fish did not exactly feel premium. I think the only standout was the tuna belly. It is also a little upsetting that the staff does not tell you what fish the chef has chosen for omakase. So, if you did like a fish, you wouldn't really know what was what. However, it is a nice spot so the ambiance earns it some points.

Tucked inside a small strip mall, this Japanese restaurant is such a gem. Street parking is usually easy, service is quick, and the food always hits the spot. Their sashimi is super fresh, and the rolls are consistently delicious -- the Rantei Roll and Mango Spider Roll are our favorites. We also love their Katsu Chicken Curry, which comes with a crisp salad topped with creamy dressing and a comforting bowl of miso soup. Simple, satisfying, and always worth the visit.

Tasty Rantei roll!!! Chicken karage the best I've had! Even edamame taste better!!! Rainbow roll is awsome, hamachi kama cooked perfect! Omakase place tastes as good as it looks!!!

Food: A few things fell short for me. They don't offer draft beer, and the beer glass wasn't chilled. The ankimo was on the salty side, soaked in soy sauce and the portion felt small for the price. The fried oysters were also quite small and mostly batter. Another disappointment was the omakase experience--it was served all at once rather than piece by piece, which took away from the traditional experience for me. I probably wouldn't order the omakase again. Overall, I wasn't impressed with the appetizers. The sushi and sashimi, however, were a different story. It was my first time trying ruby fish, and I really enjoyed it--it was soft, buttery, and packed with umami. The engawa, kanpachi, and hamachi were all fresh. The uni was also fresh, making it one of the highlights of the meal. Ambience: The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing, with Japanese music playing in the background that adds nicely to the dining experience. Service: Service was excellent throughout the meal. The staff was attentive, refilling drinks without being asked and promptly clearing used napkins and plates. Small details like that made the experience feel polished and well cared for. Overall: While the appetizers were underwhelming, the quality and freshness of the fish, along with the attentive service, made the meal enjoyable. I'd return primarily for the sashimi and sushi selections, which were the clear standouts of the evening.

Amazing food and very fresh fish! Everything we ordered was delicious. They also have freshly grated wasabi, which made the sushi even better. Service was great! Warm ambiance! Definitely coming back!

Been wanting to try this place for a very long time and finally made it out. The place is quite the cute and nice vibe with very friendly service. I think the servers checked everytime we used our napkin to replace it. The food is really good too possibly the best roll I've had in the bay area. The price is not cute however but compared to other places to get sushi rolls I might just prefer here!

Do they take reservations? If not, how long is the wait for Saturday evening?

There is a waitlist. It only took us 5-10 min to get in.

How do I get a hold of the restaurant to book a tatami room? Phone number doesn't work. First come first serve?

I just called them a few minutes ago and they were able to help me book a reservation for the tatami room! Maybe it's different from 5 months ago - but definitely had a good over-the-phone experience so far :).…

Do they have high chairs for kids?

    They do

Is there a minimum charge for booking tatami?

I believe it was $250 not including the mandatory 18% tip.

    Do they take reservation?

Yes but only for parties of 6 or more.

What's the difference between a ROLL and a HAND ROLL?

A roll is your traditional sushi roll, sliced into bite-sized pieces that you can easily grasp with chopsticks.…

Is it byob/ is there a corkage fee?

It is not byob. Do you know any restaurants that are? There is a corkage fee.

Hi I want to make a reservation for 7 people but no one is answering and mailbox is full?

Good luck, nobody has ever picked up the phone whenever I call. I've just walked in. Food is great. But attentiveness to customers isn't what they are known for.

Is the wasabi provided with their sashimi real wasabi root?

Please note that the real wasabi provided on the side is included. If you need more, it cost 3.50 though.

So how does reservation work here? Nothing on website and nothing on Yelp.

Minimum party of 6 for reservations!

It's MLK today, are they still open?

    Yes

Are they open on MLK day?

    Yes they do

    Is there outdoor seating?

    No, 3 months ago

    Can I make a reservation?

I called today 1/14/22 and they said they only do walk ins

For the kaisen don, is it good for one person only or can it feed a group of two?

It can honestly feed two if it's not the only dish you'll be eating. With the bed of rice on the bottom, it's pretty filling.

How do I make a reservation? How long is the line usually? Thank you

I just called today 10/14th and was informed they only take reservations over 6 people.

    Is dog allowed?

No. They don't have an outdoor seating.

If you're looking for authentic tonkotsu then this isn't the place. Did not experience the slow or bad customer service reported on other reviews which I assume was fixed from when they first opened. The signal here is terrible for AT&T and Verizon, so ask for the physical menu instead of trying to use the QR code. They don't do ordering off of the QR code so no loss there.

But after weighing the price of the all-you-can-eat vs ordering exactly what we were craving a la carte, we decided to just order off the menu, which was the smart move since it was much less expensive and we ended up full. The place is casual and a little not-fancy decor or ambiance wise. You wouldn't bring anyone here you wanted to impress. . .but the food is what's important, right? The sushi was good! The rolls were large, the options were creative, and everything was tasty and met expectations. I wouldn't say it's elevated sushi, where there are layers to the flavors and you go "wow". But you get your sushi and see the portions are a good size and are happy that you get to dig in and eat satisfying sushi. I'd come back here again, especially for casual sushi where you want good value. Service was good as well - again, nothing fancy or overly attentive, but perfectly adequate for the level of restaurant. Also, it came pretty quickly, which was a plus as well (it wasn't that crowded when we went).

We grabbed the menus ourselves from a nearby table. We originally wanted to try their AYCE, but since the whole table had to participate, and one of us wasn't that hungry, we decided to order a la carte. We're glad we did. The 3 of us were already stuffed after sharing an appetizer and 4 signature rolls. The sweet potato tempura came out piping hot; the batter wasn't too thick. While the dipping sauce lacked flavor, the dish was still ok, and not too oily. We're impressed by the number of signature rolls they offered, and tried to pick something we hadn't seen at other sushi restaurants. My favorite was the lobster tail tempura that came with the Boujee rolls. It was tasty with a light batter. The plating was beautiful. The torched salmon, shrimp tempura and spicy tuna were good as well, but I didn't really see any real crab inside. The Skittles roll was pretty delicious, too. I liked that it had unagi, crab, tobiko, and avocado among other things. The Umami roll also had unagi and carb, but the salmon skin and bonito flakes were what made the roll special. My daughter didn't care for the salmon skin, though. The Black Mamba was interesting if you liked softshell crab. I didn't care for the macadamia nuts, though. Portion size was huge. However, their rolls weren't rolled very tightly nor cut evenly, and their rice was on the sweeter side as other Yelpers had mentioned. Since most of the rolls had similar sauces, they kind of tasted very similar, despite the different ingredients. I wouldn't mind coming back again to try other items on their menu when I'm in the area.
