I have always liked this corner store it's one of the few places that a kid can get penny candies at the counter, they sell packs of saliditos! The night staff keeps the store organized and clean and that is what I love that the most about this place ! The selection of beverages is truly unique and unsurpassed. Kicks the pants off the competition in the area ! What I love about the staff is that they've always show the utmost concern for the community and safety of others. Items here are sold at a reasonable price and Tom is the guy you can count on to hear " good morning" any time of day ! It's rare that I find a place like this liquor store. At first it looks like a run of the mill corner liquor store. You go inside and you see the large quantity of stuff condenced into a small place. They have a little of everything. What really makes this place special to me is that often times, when I go in there and the owners seem to have compasion. If some kid is missing a dime or a quarter he tells him that he'll cover him but that he owes him next time. If it's more money he says to come and do some work to pay it off. The owners aren't a bunch of penny pinchers with a stick up their ass, they care and that makes the difference to me. My debit card was fraudulently used at this location 3 times in the span of a few minutes. Either the person/people working here are incredibly stupid, or acting in concert with the clerks working here. I have never been to this location, let alone use my debit card there. I have lived in El Monte for about 15 years and this place was here before me. I used to know some workers here before it was sold to the new owners. I did miss the old format of the store being smaller and I think a little better organized. I can think being a kid going to the movies and stopping here for candy for the movies or loading up on raven's revenge (you remember that). Now that I have gotten older and have moved up to alcohol this place is good. Since they changed owners they made it bigger to give it more of a mini mart than a liquor store. Yet you can some cheap booze when in a pinch. Also it is one of the few liquor stores in this area that sells Thunderbird, Cisco and night train wine. That is some pretty harsh stuff for being on a budget. They also have a big selection of finer liquor behind the counter. Since the owner change I gave it 3 stars if they still had the old owners I would have given them a 4 star. read more

P&L has everything from a small cold section with milk ,cheddar cheese, eggs ,sour cream, etc! Frozen sec. Has ice cream bars & pops even Haagen-Dazs. Racks of beef jerky, chips, dips chicharrones..you name it...even pet food . Dry shelfs =condiments, spices, soups, mac & cheese ,canned foods & hot sauce..blah blah.. Large cold section of fruit & vegetable juices, tea's, water & sodas. Liquor , wine and beer...Wow ! (don't judge me) Large selection of COLD beer, Import beer & IPA's + Top- Shelf Liquors some boxed with glasses for gift giving...mini liquor splits & limes at register. P&L also has basic household necessities, men and women's personal hygiene products + small section of tee -shirts, hats & sunglasses. This place has saved me time and stress on several occasions! Almost had to call the police once due to one of the older men working the register. I am a 20 year old woman and I've been told that I've looked younger than I am. I tried buying scratchers, to which the man stared at me accusingly. When I handed him my ID to verify my age, he kept asking me questions about my age and accusing me that it was a fake. After that, he refused to hand me back my ID and helps the next customer, who smelled like weed. After she left, he accused me of smoking. I had gotten irritated and my friend said that him taking my ID is a type of identity theft and that we can call the police. The moment he heard the word police, he handed me back my ID. Since that day I have not seen him when I go in. The other men who work there are very kind and polite and it's the reason I continuously go back to buy from them. read more
