To me this is the closest I have came to authentic mexican in Lansing. The staff is on top of it, we had great service. The portions are pretty big and affordable. Come to Pablo's at noon and you'll likely need to wait a minute to find a table. I've been here twice in the last year and each time it was full. Pablo's must be doing something right! We needed a fast lunch and the staff accommodated. We ordered some guacamole as our appetizer and the chicken chimichanga and steak fajita as our main dishes. I love Mexican food, but unfortunately I'm not one for any sort of spice or heat.. with that being said, I LOVED their salsa, but my boyfriend wanted more heat and flavor. We can't all be winners. We got some sort of a dinner combo with tacos, enchiladas, & what not. They weren't very large portions, but the chips & salsa plus the dinners was more than enough food for a reasonable price. The rice and bean sides were good, the beans a bit salty in my opinion but I added both rice and beans to my taco and it was delicious. Overall, this place was a great find. It was busy at 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon- not a lot of seating, so prepare for a bit of a wait. read more

I've been on a mission to try every breakfast restaurant in the Greater Lansing area and I finally got to try Pablo's today! The restaurant was full, which is always a great sign for a business. The breakfast menu was not huge, but they had enough for us to try a few options to share. My boyfriend tried the machaca con huevo breakfast with chicken instead of steak, and I tried the three chorizo tacos with a side of beans. We also split a hungry man breakfast burrito, and they offered complimentary chips and salsa as an appetizer. I really loved the beans, and the portions were just right to fill me up. Everything else was good, and the price was excellent for what we got. There was nothing wrong with our experience, and the only reason I gave three stars is because I have other favorite breakfast spots in town that I have rated higher. Went with my wife. We both were born and raised in Los Angeles. She comes from a Mexican family and mine is Nicaraguan. We KNOW Mexican food. Everything we had here is mediocre at best. Not bad, just not good either. Then again this is Michigan and maybe this is as good as it gets. We're new to the area. I moved here just before the pandemic so we haven't had much chance to try out many restaurants. So far, the Mexican restaurants we've tried leave a lot to be desired. Yelp again delivers: I wanted a decent Mexican dinner in either Flint, Lansing, or Kalamazoo, and hit upon this gem. Believe me, driving through the slums of Lansing to get there gave me doubts, so finding the place and walking inside was a relief. Who would have imagined? It's a nice place serving really good, authentic Mexican food. What more could you want? The guy running the show in there has enthusiasm and personality coming out of ears. The prices seem reasonable to me. I didn't care for the gratis red salsa (but the warm chips were really good), so I ordered a small guacamole. It took several minutes to come out, and when it did, I realized why--it is FRESH. As in, I'm pretty sure that all this stuff was still in the ground when I ordered it. A bit too much lime but otherwise an A- guacamole. The tacos were all good too--pollo, asasa, and al pastor. With just onion and cilantro, on soft tortillas, as Nature intended. Even the beans and rice were way better than most other places. I almost cleaned the plate. These guys got a little busy later and neglected to check on me or bring the bill, but that's okay. It's a casual place and I was reading a book anyway. Admittedly, I don't live around Lansing, but I can't imagine a better Mexican restaurant within fifty miles. First time I went for dinner, I came with my family. The owner greeted us warmly, found a high chair for my youngest and put us right by the window. He was incredibly helpful in improvising a kids meal for our daughters and heaped on the sides for my entree and my wife's entree so that all four of us could share. My wife got an amazing combo platter with carnitas (seasoned roasted pork). It had three items on it and I don't remember any of the names but I snuck a bite of each of them and they were amazing. For me, the 3 taco platter was what I had been missing since I moved here (pictured above with one missing - I ate the first one and realized that I should have taken a pic for the blog!). These tacos were perfection and there is just about every meat choice imaginable: lengua (tongue), bistek (steak), carnitas, chicken, chorizo (sausage) and others. I went with the various beef options and it was just amazing. Preparation is simple with two tortillas for each taco, your meat of choice, cilantro, onions and limes no the side. If you've ever been to Mexico, you'll feel like you're back there with the look of the plate and of course when you take your first bite. I don't want to be overdramatic, but I felt like I was back in Cancun the first time I ate here. (And the successive visits over the last few weeks at the lunch hour.) Our family of four ate an amazing meal for around $20. No liquor license at Pedro's but they offer some fresh squeezed juices, fountain drinks and even bottled Coca-Cola hecho en Mexico (made in Mexico). What's the big deal about Mexican Coca-Cola, you ask? If you are a freak about not ingesting high fructose corn syrup, you'll love this because Mexican Coca-Cola is made with pure sugar cane. Depending on the region this is Very authentic Mexican. I was a little disappointed that both the green and red sauces where neutral heat. I expect the tomatillo (green) sauce to have a bit of heat. Excellent authentic Mexican fare! Just cannot say enough about how good the tacos and taco salad were. Two soft corn tortillas per taco, with cilantro and limes. Chips and salsa was very nice. My visit to Pablo's was for dinner on a sweltering Wednesday evening. Greeted warmly, and immediately provided chips (from a bag?) and delicious red salsa. Ordered a small guacamole and a Jamaica agua fresca - delicious. Ordered sopes (2 Al Pastor, 1chorizo). My guest ordered tacos (Al Pastor), all we're super greasy, since the tortillas were lightly fried. Food was very good, but did not blow my socks off. I just moved to the Lansing area and was told to try Pablo's for some authentic Mexican food. When I arrived at dinnertime (5:00pm) on a Monday evening, it was not busy and I seated myself. The waitress brought chips and salsa to the table and I ordered a Diet Coke. The chips were homemade and were very greasy. The salsa was watery and had no flavor. I then ordered the steak gorditas with no beans and a side of rice. While waiting for my entree to arrive, four other couples arrived and were seated quickly. After waiting for approximately fifteen minutes, the waitress brought food to all of the other couples before my food was delivered. The gorditas were hot and steamy, but my entire plate was swimming in grease. The steak was not steak. It was some type of minced beef that was way undercooked, salty, and stringy. They also contained refried beans, which I explicitly asked them to remove. They also had just a dusting of cotija cheese, but not enough to even taste it. The rice had good flavor, but the grease on the plate began soaking in and it quickly became inedible. After not receiving any refills on my Diet Coke, I had to wave the waitress over three times to do so. Additionally, she brought me regular Coke twice, which I had to send back. Overall, the food was not good and service was poor. I will not be returning anytime soon. read more

Tried this place today. What a surprise. Nice little Mexican restaurant in old town Lansing. I had the carnitas torta. The bun is homemade and delicious. The carnitas was also perfect. The rice and beans are legitimate. That awesome flavor with a secret ingredient. My wife had the chicken enchiladas with green sauce also delicious. We are both stuffed right now. Two meals rice and beans and an ice tea. $20.94. Sweet find. Too bad I don't live in Lansing. read more
