His guys are all total professionals, and also extremely nice people. Howard painted the entire exterior of our house, as well as most of the interior. He also completely renovated and painted our kitchen. He refinished our existing 90 year old original hardwood floors in our dining room, and patched in new hardwood in the kitchen to match the dining room. He re-did our living room fireplace with stone, which had been a bad 80's style blue tile. He replaced well over a dozen ceiling fans or light fixtures. He also replaced our upstairs balcony that had dry rotted, as well as our back deck that had the same problem. He also built a gate, trellis and covered patio/ grill area in our backyard. Overall, the quality of the work done was amazing. Unlike our neighbors, who's renovation has stopped and started multiple times over the last year or so (and is still not done despite starting earlier than ours and being less overall work), Howard and his guys told us the plan, got in, executed it quickly and perfectly, and got out. Despite the amount of work done, we were able to comfortably live in our house while it was happening, largely due to the care the workers took in making our space as liveable as possible at the end of every day. When we initially sought bids for the work on our house, we did our diligence and received three quotes. Howard's was the most expensive of the three, but the details he spelled out, the questions he asked, and the top-notch professionalism he displayed made picking him easy despite the price. In the end, it was the correct choice and I'm incredibly happy we hired McKenzie Finishes for our house. In addition to Howard, a great deal of credit is due to the employees and sub-contractors he works with. Ramiro, Javier, Abraham, Peter, Jose (x2), Julio, Brizio, and the other guys who's names I'm forgetting are all dedicated professionals and were a pleasure to work with.

The neighbors, who all have hillside decks were very impressed. He is licensed and he carries workmans comp. insurance so you will be protected. When we had some problems with the City of Novato (through no fault of his) Nery made numerous trips and visits to the City on behalf of our client. He made drawings. He met inspectors. I heartily recommend E Rodas Construction…read more I hired Emar to do a major renovation of my home (new kitchen, bathrooms, fireplace, deck, windows, doors, HVAC and more) and outside (new fencing, stairs, concrete pathways, retainer walls, and more). It was all completed to a high standard. I have a demanding work life and a priority for me was I did not want to be sidetracked and/or stressed out over this multi-year project; I got my wish. I actually lived onsite (downstairs) during the upstairs renovation. I was strongly encouraged to move out but I've lived in hotels on the road for many years and I know how old that gets soon. Emar and his crew were so pleasant to be around that they made it easy to get my wish and stay in my home. There are so many reasons to recommend Emar but one of my favorites is my designer and I would regularly come up with new ideas, sometimes unusual ones, and Emar never said no to making them a reality. Early on there was a big one, very high on my wish list, that a prior contractor had said no to - unless I was willing to spend an enormous amount of money - but Emar made it work beautifully at a very reasonable price. Even if a solution to implementing our ideas wasn't obvious instantly, he quicky figured out a way to make it happen and seemed to thrive on these challenges. Emar has superior social and management skills, gets along with everyone, and has the respect of his team and his subcontractors, all who are responsive and don't let him down. Other reasons for recommending Emar are: (1) Everyone on his team was highly skilled and the quality of their work was excellent. (2) He paid attention to the little details as well as the big ones. (3) He and his team were honest. (4) They were respectful of my house & furnishings, covering up floors, removing and/or covering up furniture and bubble wrapping my paintings before storing them. Their end-of-day clean-up was professional and thorough. In short, Emar is a find. My designer recommended/insisted I hire him. I am so glad I did. You'd be very fortunate to have him.

I selected and hired JLL Builders a couple years ago to make a number of modifications to a new…read morehome we had just bought for my mother in Novato, after hers was destroyed by a mudslide in Southern California. My mom is handicapped and uses a wheelchair, and a number of changes needed to be made to the home to accommodate her needs. I asked Jeff to reverse a number of doors (so they open out, not in), add handicapped bars to the bathrooms and make changes to the glass work of an all-glass shower so it could be used as a roll-in. This was all detail-intensive work that required quality work and an eye for aesthetics, and Jeff's work was basically perfect. Where his work was better than the original construction, he made the whole area better in quality than it was before his work. All the woodwork was flawless, and also the glass work. I was impressed for sure. Best of all, it doesn't look like a "handicapped home" yet it functions as one. Anybody would be happy to live in this house. We also needed to move an inside wall to enlarge a small toilet room (for better wheelchair access) at the expense of a closet. When the work was done' you couldn't tell that it hadn't originally been built that way, the result looked so good! We also needed the entrance between the master bedroom and master bath to to have a door added, and there were on obvious solutions we could think of that worked, especially considering the entrance had an archway. Jeff came up with an ingenious sliding double door that both looks top notch, and is easy to operate by a person in a wheelchair. Brilliant! And if that's not enough, Jeff and his crew also excelled in outdoor work. A concrete wheelchair ramp was added so that my mom could roll up the 12" climb from the sidewalk to the front door. And They also outfitted the back yard with extensive decking. The wood was chosen to be very durable and good looking, and two years later, all the work has held up well. And my final comment is that the cost of all this work was very reasonable. Jeff and his crew cleaned up beautifully, and all work was completed on schedule. Anything that remained to be done, he reliably came back and did it. It's perhaps the best experience I've ever had with a contractor. felt compelled to write this two years later, because I just celebrated thanksgiving at the property. And all his work still looks good as new. And I feel his efforts deserve a good review on Yelp. I would not hesitate to work with Jeff and his crew again.
