What has happened to Ocean Crest Resort is absolutely disgusting…read more The rooms are horribly outdated and feel like they have been neglected for years. For the prices they charge, the condition of the accommodations is embarrassing. This is supposed to be a resort, not a time capsule with a premium nightly rate attached to it. But the outdated rooms are honestly the least offensive part of what is happening here. Since the new owners took over, I understand that most of the longtime staff were suddenly fired with little or no warning and the restaurant was shut down. These were real people with families, bills, mortgages, and lives tied to this place. People who helped build the reputation and experience that Ocean Crest benefited from for years were apparently discarded without a second thought. That is a shameful way to take over a longstanding local business. Closing the restaurant and gutting the staff didn't just change the resort--it affected multiple families and took jobs out of a small coastal community where replacing that kind of employment is not exactly easy. Then there is the situation involving historical artifacts that were reportedly loaned to the resort under the previous family ownership. My understanding is that some of those items have still not been returned to the people they belong to. If that is accurate, it is beyond unacceptable. Those items are part of someone else's family history and were entrusted to the resort, not handed over permanently to whoever happened to buy the property. Ocean Crest used to have something that money cannot easily recreate: history, character, loyal employees, a functioning restaurant, and a connection to the community. The new ownership appears to be doing an incredible job of destroying all of it. You can renovate an outdated room. You can replace furniture. You can repaint walls. What you cannot easily repair is the damage done when a business loses the goodwill of its employees, former owners, local community, and longtime customers. I would not spend a dime here under the current ownership. There are plenty of beautiful places to stay on the Washington coast. Spend your money somewhere that actually deserves your business.

Recently restored building on the town's Main Street, it's the cutest place. I've spent many weekends on the Pacific side of the State this year and have tried area vacation rentals, none as satisfying as this. Yes, there is more space in home rentals, but if you're a party of one or two, I think you'll enjoy the in-room amenities here including mini kitchen, large bath, cable and comfortable bed. Watch for the future wine bar under construction on first floor. The barber shop is already up and running too. Splurging here means $100 a night. There are other rooms for less. I have a huge desire for two strips of beachfront here and if you're smart about it, you'll start visiting Pacific Beach now. This previously neglected community is about to take an upswing. It's Washington State's Cuba. :)

However, the condo did meet/exceed our expectations, which were quite low based on pictures and reviews. With the good price we paid and the cleanliness, it's easy to overlook the worn-out (never updated) look. So, 4+ stars for the condo. But, 1 star for Recreation Stays- the property management company. We did a "last minute" booking (escaping the wildfire smoke in the Seattle area), three days before arrival. We never got a confirmation email. We called a couple of hours later and they confirmed the booking. But, still no confirmation email or check-in instructions. When we left (from Seattle area) for the High Tides, still nothing from Recreation Stays. We called many times (15?) before we left and while driving in the car, using different numbers we found on the internet- nobody answered the phone (even though they state "24/7 white-glove guest communication"). Just the same message saying no one is available. My wife did find something about texting them in order to get a response. And they did respond!!! But, they had paperwork we needed to fill out before they would send instructions. It was a ridiculous amount of work- a multi-page questionnaire, upload pictures of drivers license, upload a selfie. Give a credit card for a damage deposit (even though we paid upfront for the condo). They finally responded with the check-in instructions. And you can't check in until 5:00 pm? The office closes at 6:00 and we weren't going to arrive until 7:00. Thankfully we had no further problems getting into the condo. And, a shout-out to Jerry, the office manager at High Tides. Incredibly nice man! But the property management, Recreation Stays, is the worst rental experience I have ever had. Unexcusable!

We booked a room for 3 nights at High Tide condominiums through "By the Sea Management" 3 weeks in…read moreadvance. After driving 3 plus hrs, when we tried to check in we were informed by their off site management company, By the Sea, that regardless of our written confirmation we had no reservation or room. Furthermore, Laura, told us, tho off season mid week, and no cars in the parking lot there were no other rooms available. I have never met a more abrasive, unhelpful, hostile person as Laura who hung up on me when I told her that our credit card had been charged for the 3 night stay. With no recourse and no one on site with whom we could talk with to straighten out this mess we had no alternative but to leave. Fortunately a brilliant motel, Moonstone Beach motel was a few blocks away, had an incredibly a helpful front desk clerk, Kate, who wiped my tears and checked us into a beautiful room with similar amenities for less money. My advice, beware of "By the Sea" management company, as it appears our situation is not unique and has had happened multiple times. So forget staying at High Tide and stop a few blocks earlier and stay at the Moonstone Beach Motel. They have wonderful on site management team. There offer many homes to rent out as well! Our house was had a beach theme and we couldn't be more happy. There were three rooms ( king, queen, and four bunk beds), hot tub, and fire pit! The house was fully furnished for every use. We loved having the option to cool or dine. I love how quiet the neighborhood was. No one bothered us... we bothered no one. It was GREAT. Only downfall was that we showed up to the house with bags of trash that seem to have been forgotten and raccoons got to it. But josh who was on night duty helped us clean it out. He was very nice. Check in and checking out was easy. We didn't have to talk or see no one because a code to the door was provided. Instructions for the home was sent couple days prior to arrival. As much as I love this place I wouldn't be able to stay here as often as we'd like due to the fact that it's very expensive to stay here. So this is a treat if we ever get to do this again. I recommend trying this place out if you haven't already. Even if you just come down for a day trip. It is on the way towards ocean shore so if you can't find anything to do in town you can always head down that way.

Seabrook presents itself as something it's not. I realize now that they do not allow negative…read morereviews on their actual website. Another reviewer here mentioned that same thing. This is extremely dishonest but this is how Seabrook manages the entire business. The unit was incredibly dirty. The floors had tons of black dog hair and dirt as well as white fluffy husky type hair all over. The appliances were disgusting. They were stained. They had food stuck on, but worst of all, was the bed. It was broken, and you could not sleep on it. I alerted the management to these issues and they absolutely did not care. Not only did they not care they were incredibly rude, condescending, and blamed me for the issues. The person I spoke with name is Tyler, and he needs to be removed from any type of hospitality position. He said not being able to sleep on a broken bed is my "personal preference" and that I'm "impossible to please". He also said they'll schedule a deep clean "after I leave", implying the entire time that I made the mess. I had not even been at Seabrook 24 hours by the time this all happened. Tyler's options for me were to leave Seabrook and forfeit the rest of the two nights reservation I pre-paid for. Alternatively, he said I could rent a separate unit, still forfeiting my existing reservation and two nights I paid for, and pay additionally for an entirely new reservation. This was right after he said nothing in the entire community was available to move me into. I looked online and there were 105 dog friendly units and 150 units overall available for the duration of my stay. He was dishonest. I asked him if he could at least try to find a topper for the bed so that I could sleep on it, he stomped off - that was at 11 AM on Monday, the morning after my arrival. It is now midday Wednesday and I still have not heard back from Tyler or Seabrook about my issues. The maintenance person did come and realize that the bed had been shoved under a shelf in the headboard. However, when he pulled it out from underneath, it was almost a foot off the foundation. After not hearing from Tyler that night, I tried to sleep on the couch. It equally was not comfortable and for over $350 a night, this entire situation was not acceptable. I left the next morning as the room was uninhabitable. Seabrook portrays itself is having nice, clean, updated, elevated rentals with wonderful people working there. That is not the case. Like the manufactured community, that is the manufactured presence it creates for itself online. You would never know that without staying there. And once you stay there, and if you're not happy with your unit, you have no options but to stay in a horrible unit or ruin your vacation and go home while losing your money. Also, the night before I left, there was a cougar on the property and they sent a text at 8 PM telling residents to not go outside. They said they would update people when it was safe to go outside. As of 11 AM the next day they had not sent any updates, I absolutely had to walk my dog, and while outside I saw a worker and asked about the cougar. He showed me a picture of it because it was so large, and told me I should stay in my room. All Seabrook had to do was move me to a clean room with a decent bed. Instead, they decided to be dishonest with their review policy online, and dishonest by saying nothing was available and try to make me lose money I paid while charging me double just for a clean, comfortable room. They absolutely did not care if I had a good stay or not. They care about money, not you. They were unwilling to make any accommodation or take any accountability for their issues. This was extremely disappointing as I generally only take one vacation a year due to a busy work schedule. I had my new rescue dog with me, and was very excited for this trip for him. Seabrook and Tyler with his rude attitude absolutely ruined it. Not only was Tyler impossible to work with, he was derogatory, he kept putting me down, saying I was impossible, and his manner was extremely aggressive. He was acting like he was frustrated, throwing his arms up in the air, and I was absolutely confused and shocked by their "hospitality". They also advertise that they're extremely dog friendly. They are not. There was only one store where you could go in with a dog, and that was the actual pet store. When I went in one of them turned on a vacuum about 2 feet from my dog, and I almost lost control of him while he tried to run out the door. Along with filthy appliances with sticky food residue - the dishes were chipped and dirty. Look at the photos, judge for yourself.

Books up early because it's just such a fun place to stay!

Check in process was confusing as it was virtual but those instructions weren't on booking.com and were emailed and went to my spam. Yes didn't know to look for them since I was never told that. Then when o got there I called the number in the window 3x over 2 hours and never heard back. I finally caught one of the maintenance people and he was super helpful and got me in the Unit. I travel a lot (over 100,000 miles a year and stay in hotels 75+ nights per year) I know what to expect. This was not as marketed.

The third floor is an entire penthouse and would seem to be the most private with the least noise. There are only stairs so if you have handicap travelers book on the first floor. The office manager was really helpful and friendly and suggested a nearby museum as a must-see, which ended up being a highlight of the weekend. Can't wait to visit again, only this time we're moving on up, to the penthouse in the sky.

We were looking for a cozy cottage for a weekend getaway to the coast, and the Periwinkle cottage…read moreat Pacific Beach & Beyond was one of the most affordable options. We also didn't have too many options - President's Day weekend books up fast - and this seemed to have most of what we were looking for. The cottage is one of four closely placed units on a lot. As in, the view from one of the windows is directly across to another cabin's front door. Despite this, it was pretty quiet and we didn't see much of the other occupants. That could be different in summer, when doors are open and people are outside more. Periwinkle is quite small, essentially a studio, so it's really best suited for one person or a couple. The bedroom area is separated from the main room only by sheer curtains, and the windows have venetian blinds and no curtains, so there's a LOT of light in the mornings. It was very cold when we checked in, but quickly warmed up with the heater and gas fireplace. There is a tea kettle, coffee maker, and basic kitchen supplies and utensils, though probably not enough to do serious cooking. You can see the water from the windows, and the beach is just a few blocks away. The decor isn't to my taste - bright green and blue with lots of art glass and wicker - but it's fine. Now for the weird stuff. - There is NO WIFI in this unit, even though other units come with wifi - their suggestion is that you go to the espresso stand a block away. This wouldn't have been such an issue except that we had no phone coverage either, so it was impossible to look things up, get maps, call for reservations, etc. Or, you know, call the management office in case of an emergency. - A lot of things are semi-broken or poorly maintained (missing adjustment rod on blinds, missing heater knob in bathroom, DVD/VHS player missing remote and only kinda works). There's no dresser or suitcase rack to store clothes, just a small wardrobe by the door that's already full of cleaning supplies. The headboard is like a picket fence with the tops sawed down - I don't know why it's even there, because it's not decorative (you can't see it when the bed is made) and it's dangerous with sharp edges right next to your head! The shower curtain is way too long and trails a lot of fabric into the tub, which gets in the way and never fully dries. And so on. - There are very few services or really anything nearby, other than the aforementioned espresso stand and a couple of convenience stores. You basically have a 20-minute drive to Ocean Shores if you want a restaurant, bar, grocery store, or anything else. That might be a plus for some! But I don't think we realized how little there was to do nearby. Overall, it worked, and it's probably better in warm weather, when there's more to do outside and you're not constantly inside noticing all the broken stuff. But I personally wouldn't stay at the Periwinkle again or recommend it to friends.

So my family and I went here on a "last hurrah" kind of trip before I went out of state for…read morecollege. It wasn't supposed to be a luxurious or grandiose trip by any standard but it was meant to be a small way to get away as a family and spend some quality time together near the serene Pacific ocean. Unfortunately, the placidity of the trip was somewhat ruined by the subpar, pathetic house that was Katie's Cottage. First off, the directions led us to the Pacific Beach & Beyond "headquarters," not Katie's Cottage. This was not an issue at all until the people at the "headquarters" attempted to give us directions to the actual house we were supposed to get to. These "directions" could more accurately be defined as an incompetent set of clues made to confuse and frustrate you. "Go down the road and once you pass the second street look for the green house." I mean, those instructions worked eventually, but a simple house number would've sufficed and saved us some time. But that really wasn't a major issue--just a funny anecdote that, in hindsight, seems to be par for the course for Pacific Beach and Beyond. The cottage looked alright from the car; a bright green house on the side of the highway. However, once we got out of the car and walked up to the house we learned that this house was anything but alright. The dead plants and broken flower pots that greeted us in the front yard were the sort of eyesores that we quickly realized were just characteristic of the house. I am just going to list the problems that we found within 30 minutes of entering the house: The drapes were stained and torn in multiple places. The dead plants and broken pots that were in the front of the house actually surrounded the house in the back as well (the ones we saw in the front of the house were in no way an idiosyncrasy). The pipe cover (for lack of better words) was gross and had clearly been untouched for over five years. One of the faucets for the shower was broken and the showerhead itself barely had water flow. Water just sort of oozed out of it. The floor of the bathroom was prominently peeling away. Some of the outlets were cracked. The windowsills were covered in dirt and grime from years of neglect. And worst of all, in the backyard the view of the beach was almost completely blocked by trees that could easily be cut down by the owners of the house. Honestly, the word that comes to mind to describe this house is "neglect." It is as though the owners bought the house ten years ago and haven't cleaned it since. And it wasn't as though the house was $50 a night. Our total for two nights was over $400! Pacific Beach and Beyond was an extreme disappointment and I hope that nobody makes the same mistake that we did. Two huge thumbs down!
