I've been going to Dr. Acosta almost since he opened his practice. He is an excellent dentist who spends time getting to know his patients as well as educating them re: optimal oral health. I have gone throughout the pandemic and always felt very safe. The office has a strict COVID protocol and follows it fastidiously. Everyone who works there is warm and engaging. Dr. Acosta is always taking continuing education classes to improve his knowledge/skills and volunteers his time helping the less advantaged. I highly recommend him. read more

What makes Pacifica so great? Beautiful scenery, nice weather (sometimes), and John Acosta, DDS. John and his team run an excellent dentistry that truly cares for its patients. First and foremost, John does great work and is a great communicator about your dental needs. He replaced a poorly done crown from a previous dentist with no complications. Fillings are quick and (relatively) easy. The hygienists are great too - very careful and always have good advice. One actually explained to me how to use my sonicare correctly, which has been a game changer. Frances the receptionist has a great demeanor and Ann (John's wife - family business) is always super helpful with billing and insurance. Finally, the office is clean, immaculate, and equipped with modern technology. Wow, I had fillings done and a crown replacement today, and never felt any pain during or after the procedure. (Even in the evening, no soreness appeared.) The replacement crown was sculpted during the visit (with the latest technology), so no need for a temporary crown and return visit. Dr. Acosta is so skilled and caring, and explained everything before and during the procedures, always making sure I knew I could make a sign in the event of any discomfort or concern (of which there was none). Better hope you've got insurance. After a brief call on the phone to try to set up an appointment, I was informed that the cost of a cleaning and X-ray's $350. Generously, they offered a "promotional" price to those without insurance at the low, low cost of $199. Fillings, per tooth, run somewhere in the $275-400 range. He may be a great dentist if you've got insurance to cover the expenses, but that's still no excuse to take advantage of your customers. Potential customers, too. Totally ridiculous. UPDATE! As John Acosta pointed out in his response to me, I'm not from the Bay Area, no. I'm from Saint Louis, MO. That's a good three day drive away if you haul through it and drive 13 or 14 hours a stretch. Roughly 2100 miles. It's likely not a surprise I didn't end up at Acosta's office, but I still needed a check up and cleaning. So, I went ahead and drove back to Missouri and visited my dentist I'd been going to since I've had teeth. Fortunately for me, this was summer and between semesters. Let me walk you through the total expense of that journey, from here to there and back again! Corolla's are great cars, but I'm envious of you Prius owners on long drives. See, in a Corolla with good gas mileage, you can expect to spend roughly $200 on gas to Saint Louis, so long as you're paying attention to gas prices in towns along the way. I'm terrible when it comes to planning, but even I can manage that much. So, $200. I've got my usual hotel stops along the way, as well. It's usually $80 at the first and $90 at the second. I'll throw in about $20 for cheap food along the way just to get me there. So far I'm at $390. We'll double that for the drive back and we're at $780. All that's left is the dentist! X-rays, a cleaning, and three fillings (it'd been awhile) ran up to a little under $275. Pricey! If we're assuming a filling runs an average of 337.50 (from the price range I was given on the phone), that would mean the procedure at this office would have run around $1213. So, in total, I drove 2100 miles, got my teeth cleaned, drove 2100 miles back, and saved $158! That's almost enough to afford a new car payment if your old Corolla explodes on the drive back through Wyoming! Best part is how, if you flew round trip ($320-350) and avoided gas, hotels, and food, the whole ordeal would have only run you roughly $600, if that. With those sorts of savings, you could afford three--count 'em--three new car payments, a nice dinner with your family, a pack of gum, and a soda! Diet, of course. read more

Dr. Acosta is super friendly and very informative. His office is clean, pretty and technologically current. He tells you with great detail everything going on in your mouth, maybe almost too eager to make everything perfect. I wish I could give the same rating to his clerical staff up front. Be prepared for numerous calls, texts and email reminders about the same appointment you have confirmed two other times. They are not great about getting back to you regarding insurance quotes or other questions you asked during your appointment. I had to call 4 times to get my dental X-rays emailed to me when we moved and a handful of times to get an insurance reimbursement for a filling that was causing me pain. If Dr. Acosta's staff was as on top of it as he is, I would give his office a 4.5 rating. I suggest some customer service training for the ladies up front. read more

(My first 5 stars! *****) My story: It was two weeks before my dreaded final exams, after treating myself to a bowl of nice warm soup, I started feel the throbbing pain. I blamed it on my notorious wisdom tooth that is still staying "rent-free" in my mouth. I was reluctant to see my dentist because classes are about to end and there was no way I'm going to miss my review classes. So I sat in my dark room and tried to quiet the voices in my head nagging me to get my behind to the dentist. I gave up after two ice packs, oragel, and half a bottle of Ibuprofen. The dental office is on top of the hill Daly City, a couple of blocks away from my house. Very accessible to 14 Muni and SamTrans, and if you wish to drive, there are metered street parking available. The building is bright pink on the outside, so I was in awe when I was greeted by a tastefully decorated reception area. I was even more surprised when I was ushered to my dental chair for my X-ray (which is btw, now digital, so no more waiting to develop the x-ray films), to see how spacious the dental office is. Office/Location: 4.5 stars! Despite of the pain, I managed to smile when I was welcomed warmly by Dr. Acosta's lovely wife/assistant. I prepared several excuses why I delayed my visit (which caused more trouble...) and none of them were convincing. But it didn't matter because as soon as Dr. Acosta saw the discomfort in my face and he was on a mission to make me pain-free. A soothing music, a couple of shots of anesthesia and a simple procedure, (it wasn't the wisdom tooth after all) I walked out of the office without the throbbing pain! Service: 5 stars! (Note: I haven't given anybody 5 stars yet!) Would I go back and see Dr. Acosta? Of course! (Not because he's a good-looking dentist: ehem, ladies... but because he takes personal interest on your dental health and very thorough) Would I recommend Dr. Acosta to my families and friends? Sometimes taking 40 mins to get there if the traffic is slow. I've been reading good reviews on Yelp and Next door about this Dentistry. I was hesitant to change my dentist because when you find a good one. Your best options are to stay with them. It wasn't hard for me to change because my dentist retired. I've been bringing my son here for a year and am very pleased with everyone in the office and how friendly they are to my son who is terrified of dentists due to a very bad experience when he was younger. Take note though: NEVER cancel an appointment here. I cancelled once for my own appointment due to being sick, and when I rescheduled, they ended up cancelling me...TWICE. I will keep my son coming here, but for myself, I am on the hunt for a new dentist who understands that when I am at work, I cannot call them back to confirm an appointment. read more

My previous dentist in Pacifica (the excellent practice Pacific Manor Dental with Dr. Duy Nguyen and Dr. Renee Chow) had so few patients with my insurance that they dropped it, so I looked for another in-network dentist. Lucky for me, on my second try, I found Pacific Coast Dental. Dr. John Acosta and crew are genuinely warm, friendly, professional, knowledgeable, confident, and honest (just like at Pacific Manor). These are qualities that anyone can appreciate and are important to me. Pacific Coast efficiently uses online forms to collect patient info before the first visit. The office is well designed, comfortable, and clean, and it smelled pleasant (I think I noticed an essential oil diffuser in the hall). My exam was thorough and the evaluation detailed and competently performed, from X-rays to interpretation to cleaning. I had to pay for the exam because it was my third one this year (I tried a different dentist, between Pacific Manor and Pacific Coast, to which I ended up not going back), but the charge was reasonable to me. I am happy with my initial visit to Pacific Coast Dental, so thank you, fellow Pacifica Yelpers, for the referral! Update: Doing Invisalign treatment now and it's going fine although I had to wear one pair of aligners for 5 weeks but that was due to COVID-19. Now back on track and today met Gina, the other hygienist, who told me the details about the new protocols due to the pandemic. She's a great hygienist, thorough but very gentle. I like the other ones a lot as well but requested Gina for my next cleaning. A total pro and very sweet person too. read more

Dr. Acosta and the hygienists are kind and professional. They listen to your concerns and help you make smart dental decisions. There is a television and sound system in every dental room to make your experience as relaxing as possible. Francis in the front office is always on hand to help you book your next appointment. She is helpful and always works with your schedule. She also reminds you ahead of time of your appointment so you will be able to get there. I must give Dr. Acosta 5 stars. Just had my first visit with Dr. Acosta, and was very pleased. The entire staff is friendly, accommodating, and ready with any information you might need. I am a new patient, and have been here twice. On the first visit, it was pretty obvious that everyone you talk to here is very focused on making sure that the patient experience is a good one. They carefully explain what they are doing, and give ample opportunities for questions. The office environment is tip-top and very comfortable. Sitting in the waiting area, it was also easy to see that they have plenty of other happy and satisfied patients. I have a rather demanding schedule, and they were able to work with me and set up appointments that worked well with my requirements, and were easy for me to manage. One of the best things for me, is both times I have been there, someone has called me later that day for a follow-up to check with me and make sure I am doing okay. I am a pretty sensitive person and probably potentially difficult at times, and they were able to make me comfortable, and showed me that they are interested in making this the best possible experience. Dr. Acosta just recently moved to a gorgeous location in Pacifica, and we moved further south on the peninsula, but we still travel the 30 minutes to get to Dr. Acosta because he makes us feel like family. He has helped me get through fixing the issues with my gums and filling my cavities and I am using him for my Invisalign treatment. What's great is that he also encourages bringing your toddlers to the dentist visit so that they can get familiar with being at a dentist chair. It's great to be able to have someone who is so open and welcoming to all family members. As of 4/24 -- Go now and new patients receive FREE teeth whitening, which is great to hear! The first time I came to this office was an emergency visit, and when we were looking for a dentist that was closer to us, my family and I decided to start coming here for our regular check-ups and cleanings. I like the way this office is a family business with Dr. Acosta checking teeth and his wife taking care of admin in front. They are both great people and the rest of the staff is always warm & welcoming as well. It's clean and the interior design is chic and cozy which sets it apart from the normally cold and sterile atmosphere that you normally encounter at medical offices. They have a small play corner with toys for younger kids and two computers with games for older kids. They also have TVs in all the rooms as well as Pandora. If feels like they've put a lot of thought into making sure you get a great experience when you visit. It's the one of the best dental offices that I've been to so far! read more

I had been searching for a dentist for a few years now after having bad experiences. I was in major need of removing my wisdom teeth. I moved around a lot after college and never found a good family dentist I felt comfortable coming back to. I either felt like I was being ripped off or they just weren't very friendly. I wanted to feel at home rather than another case. Luckily, I was referred to John Acosta by a close friend. It was convenient for me living in San Bruno. I dropped by for a quick consultation. He was very friendly and was patient with all of my questions about my wisdom teeth. He explained what needed to be removed and what else can be fixed. It also wasn't a headache when it came to payment options. I'm very glad I finally found my family dentist, I just hope I don't end up moving around again. read more

It's been a while since I went to the dentist, so thanks to FINALLY having insurance from my job, I decided to put that into use right away and go dentist-hunting. ...and then I came across Dr. Acosta's site. "Pretty good reviews," I thought, so I'll go here, especially since its only a few blocks away from home. The interior of the office was in pristine condition and the receptionist was friendly. Dr. Acosta was a very personable guy and right before we got started he offered to play music of my choosing Who does that?! No one!! Give me the soothing stuff, please! Because these dentist appointments are brutal lol. Dr. Acosta was informative and explained everything that was going on with my teeth, and answered questions about the issues I had with my gums when I brushed my teeth. He won't sugarcoat your problems, simply because he cares about his profession, and wants you to have the healthiest teeth and gums you can possibly have. I am not the biggest fan of going to the dentist but Dr. Acosta makes it bearable. He always tells me what he is doing in my mouth which eases the anxiety a bit and really gets to know you! Everytime Jason (my boyfriend) and I go back to the dentist they remember what we told them last. How was your vacation? How is work coming? It is a real personable office!! I have never been more happy with a dentist in my life. Dr. Acosta, and his staff, are great. The up front is informative with insurance and verifications. Jim, the hygienist, was so thorough and particular. My teeth have never felt cleaner. Jim and Dr. Acosta covered every detail about my procedures and cleaning. They give great recommendations and are both pro active. One of the things I think is neat is when Dr. Acosta takes before and after pictures of the fillings and other procedures he does, and then shows you. I am impressed by his work and my teeth feel great. Dr. Acosta even checked up on me after my filling appointment. Lucky me!...Pacific Coast Dental is the closest dental office to my home, but I would travel across the bay if I had to in order to see the fine folks here. Jim is the BEST hygienist I have ever come across. He never lectures, but explains any issues clearly and offers many helpful hints on how to improve brushing and flossing habits. Dr. Acosta is wonderful, as is everybody who works in the office! They are all so NICE and professional (a winning combination!). Even though I've moved to Virginia (DC Metro), I still come back to do my cleanings here, and I also visit family and friends at the same time. Super friendly staff but they always find something wrong in order to bill insurance for extra work. Every time I went in I was told I had a cavity and was rescheduled for extra work to be done. Another time I burned the roof of my mouth eating pizza they ran extra tests to make sure it wasn't cancer. I have been to my new dentist multiple times and have many x-rays and no cavities. I haven't changed my eating habits in any way. My teeth discoloration that was said to be cavities before is actually coffee stains. read more

I am a pretty finicky patient when it comes to dental care. My previous dentist I had been seeing since I was 7 years old. I knew him well and knew his love of his work. He retired 7 years ago. I had moved out coastside (they were on the peninsula, but I still made the drive because I knew a couple of people in the office). The rest of the crew retired too. I was a little lost. I yelped Dr. Acosta and set up an appointment when faced with an emergent issue. Dr. Acosta quickly did an assessment of my situation. I appreciate that he takes the conservative approach with treatment. The hygienist, Jim. did a very thorough job cleaning my teeth gently, and also gave me some advice on avoiding issues in my hard to reach areas. I have been going to this office for over a year now. I waited to see the treatment over time before jumping to a conclusion/review after one visit. But I have been thoroughly impressed with my treatment at Pacific Coast Dental. Awesome!! Always friendly, professional, and tech savvy. Love getting the reminders via text, email, calls, auto-add options to my calendar. They're flexible with my crazy unpredictable work schedule even when policy would dictate cancellation payments. (As long as I'm flexible to fill their other cancellations) They have later hours on some days to accommodate work as well. Did I mention the awesome TVs above every chair so I can finally catch up on My Netflix binges of House of Cards during my cleanings? Love this place. I whole-heartedly recommend Dr. Acosta! He is personable, energetic and each and everyone of the staff makes you feel comfortable. Going to the dentist can be an intimidating thing but not when you come here. My kids (who are 6 and 8) look forward to going and getting a 'prize' at the end of the visit. We have been seeing him for the last 3 years and have never had any issues. Also, Jim is the best hygienist...its never painful and he taught me how to properly floss! The office itself is clean and aesthetically pleasing, they offer coffee and tea, and computer games for the kids. I am a new patient of Dr. Acosta and am very happy about it. The entire office staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They have such a comfortable office and it seems that my comfort and ease while I am there is truly a priority for the whole staff. To say that Dr. Acosta is warm and welcoming doesn't even cover it; He is also, obviously, intent on being the best dentist he can be. He is a skilled dentist who pushes himself to do the best work for his patients. He replaced a crown for me and fixed a couple of failing fillings (work done elsewhere in the past) and my mouth feels great and the teeth look so much better.
