Pretty average coffee shop. I usually come here because it's the closest coffee shop to my house, but overall I find their drip coffee pretty underwhelming. Just okay. I have tried their chai latte as well, and it was fine, but I wasn't really impressed. I have also tried the breakfast sandwich on a bagel, and it tasted kind of bland. With so many other local coffee shops that I know are great in Santa Cruz, Pacific Coffee just doesn't stack up to the competition in my opinion. But if it's just simple coffee you're looking for, then Pacific Coffee will do just fine. They have a decent amount of seating inside, but not very many outlets, so be aware if you plan on plugging in. read more

Tom and Denna do a great job on creating a special place for sipping your morning brew. Tom's does all of his own roasting and creates an incredible variety of coffees. My favorite is his Mocha Java which is always consistent in flavor. They also have breakfast foods (bagels, eggs etc) but again the thing that keeps bringing me back is their coffee. read more

What a great place for coffee - it feels like everyone there (young, old and in between) is friends and the staff is always fun and courteous. The coffee is truly fantastic and the owners do their own roasting on the spot. Free WiFi is nice, but not the strongest connection. I really do like this place. Their espresso drinks are perfect and their baristas know their ish. Espresso always perfectly pulled and their foam is to die for. I hesitate to give 5 stars because they are overpriced and while they roast EXCELLENT beans, the coffee they brew disappoints- not strong enough in my opinion. However, if you buy their beans and brew at home, it's wonderful :) I'd much rather support the independent places than the chain joints. read more

The Best of the Best. If you really love coffee, this is the place to go. Wonderful coffee that is roasted on the premises. Wonderful, fast efficient service every time. You can tell this is locally owned and OPERATED as the owners know their business. Top notch service with top of the line products makes this the only coffee house I visit these days. AMAZING coffee. Im not much of a coffee drinker, often its too bitter for my taste, but this coffee is absolutely unbelievable. Smooth flavor, no bitterness, and lovely taste. My friend and I got there around 11:30 a.m. and I expected the lovely smell of coffee, which most coffee houses have, but it was strangely missing. Most of the tables were full with plenty of coffee being made, so I just assumed the lack of aroma was because both double doors were open. We did expect a lot after reading all those great reviews, and the mostly recommended Borge I had was very good, but not great. While sipping our coffee drink a worker badly burned a muffin and the lack of coffee aroma was quickly filled with very burned bake goods. Part of the room was taken up by what looked like a coffee roasting machine surrounded by huge bags of green coffee. I assumed they must roast it early in the morning and thought that was when the coffee must taste better too. The coffee I got at Aptos Roasting was better, but Pacific roasting beats Starbucks for sure! read more

I just wanted to give a slightly less than stellar review because I'm a bit peeved. I asked for a dark roast decaf and they refused to brew anything. They just have pre-made light decaf. They have every damn coffee under the sun with caffeine, made to order, but they can't make a decaf anything "just for me." read more

So I went in today to get a drink for the first time and was simply appalled by the poor customer service I received. I work in the customer service field and have come to really value being treated well when I'm a customer in someone else's business. Firstly, the drink alone was very pricey...$3.25 for an iced chai in a tiny cup. It's not over-the-top, but you can get a 20oz iced chai elsewhere for less than a dollar more. That, however, wasn't my issue. There was a pretty long line, but we were promptly asked by a man if he could start a drink for us. No "hello" or "how are you today?", just a question. Again, that's not my main issue. I then was rudely told what I owed by a snotty-looking 17-18 year old girl whose name I believe was Emily. No "so, it's gonna be x dollars" or anything, just a rude "$3.25". She didn't smile, look me in the eyes, or say thank you afterward. She also gave me a dirty look and was rude to the next few customers behind me. I was honestly so shocked that a local business with such a high Yelp review was keeping such unenthused, rude staff. I can't be the only person who has experienced such poor customer experience from this girl. There are a ton of enthusiastic young people in the area who'd probably love to be in her shoes, yet the company chooses to keep her. I can say that I'll never again be returning to this coffee shop, and I'd urge others not to as well. read more

They served the WORST blended mocha and white vanilla blended mocha! Flavor was horrible, it was like drinking water, there was nothing blended frappe about it! Such a disappointment! Food was good. Coffee was excellent. Service was terrible! As you might expect from any business worth visiting on a holiday, they were slammed, and their systems weren't able to manage it well. Young woman that took our order was rude and abrasive -- if I hadn't been in need of coffee, would've walked out the moment I heard her tone -- obviously not someone who should be on the front lines in hospitality industry. We ordered our food and drinks -- bagels, coffee and hot chocolate -- and had to wait outside for them to complete. There is no system in place to let you know when your food is ready from patio so we had to keep going in to check -- one at a time as each item came separately. Area around pick-up was so crowded, had to struggle to reach it. Breakfast finally came but then both creamers were empty and no staff available to refill. More waiting in traffic jam. Suggestions: hire friendly counter staff, and come up with system that alerts customers from patio to avoid traffic jam and constant checking while trying to enjoy simple breakfast. Again, coffee was excellent so would return -- however would not accept rude treatment a second time. read more

This place is amazing. The straight coffee is always amazing, although I must admit that I detest the new Peruvian roast. It tastes like battery acid and dirt made a baby and it was abandoned in my cup. The Colombian dark roast is my favorite coffee ever, and these guys do it RIGHT! Atmosphere is bright and open, the staff is friendly and funny (especially if you appreciate dry humor). Hope to make this place a regular destination! read more

Really good and smooth brewed coffee and espresso drinks. Their bagel sandwiches are yummy and they offer eggs without the bagel - eggs cooked until puffy with your choice of toppings/fillings. It's a nice way to have a guiltless fast breakfast. Nice variety of baked goods (sweet or savory), quiches, and yogurt parfaits (low fat vanilla, or non-fat plain greek with berries and/or granola). It's bright, clean, and their outside seating is great on a nice day. Love the little shopping center it's in. read more

Nice quaint place. We were visiting from San Francisco. Espresso bar a little on the slow side. It looks like the natives were use to waiting they were all seated waiting for their espresso drinks. Good coffee & nice atmosphere. Free wifi is good if you can get a table near an outlet, but there is never enough seating at the tiny crowded tables inside the cafe. I love this place! Get my coffee every morning. The baristas make a kick-ass espresso drink, and there egg bagel sandwiches, scones and food selection in general is very good. Sadly though, the two drinks that the owner has made for me have just been plain terrible. Bland and oddly not tasting like espresso or the vanilla flavoring that I get added. The owner should make the best cup in the house in my opinion, the baristas and the other owner get 5 stars, but one of those two cups was this morning when I really needed it and it was just bad. Seriously so yummy !! I can never find anywhere that has decaf iced coffee. I was visiting family in aptos and looked up a coffee place online and found this. It was delicious! So glad I decided to try this place out. They also have fresh pastries and they are also very good. Can't wait to come back to them again! Wish they had one in the east bay.
