Horrible service some of the staff maybe need some training on Customer service. Make sure you question all charges. I was told to pay an obscene amount of $ each time I visited. I wear Gas Perm lenses and they require good optometrist to get them fit right. I recently moved to this town and hoped to find a decent Dr.. The dr. The wait at this office is horrendous. Don't come here. Mel and Allison are extremely rude and unprofessional. They scheduled 6 patients at the same time. I came to my appointment and there were people waiting outside because the lobby was so full and they yelled at several of us. I waited 2 hours to be seen and told they needed to reschedule. Don't ever come to this office unless they get rid of Mel and Allison. I have never seen such poor treatment of patients from the front office and the back office in my life. read more

New to the area so I yelp reviewed and chose this place for my son to have his eye exam. When we arrived i signed him in and stood waiting for the desk clerk to take his completed paperwork that had been mailed to me. After a few moments she told me to have a seat and she would call me back for the paperwork. Okay but about the time my tushy touches the seat she calls me back up to hand her the completed paperwork i had come in with. i still don't understand why she couldn't have taken first. There was only one other patient present at the time in the waiting room. We were taken back an assistant. My son has had glasses before and he brought his old pair. The assistant that took him back checked his glasses to get the existing prescription off of them and then proceeds to do his eye exam. She leaves and a few minutes later the doctor comes in. He looks into my sons eyes but never performs any more testing and had come in with the prescription for my sons new glasses. I find it very odd that the assistant performed my sons eye exam not the doctor. Overall I wouldn't return. I felt like we were an imposition in their day and had interrupted something. It was a very awkward experience. I won't miss going there ever again. read more

I had about the same experience as everyone else apparently ( Patient mix ups(, incorrect billing multiple times, VERY costly, given incorrect information for insurance purposes which resulted in not a correction but an Oh I'm sorry, that's too bad , we made a mistake but we cant fix it now!?????! Dr. Merrill at Pacific Eye has treated my wife for several years in dealing with her Glaucoma. I have attended most of her appointments as we navigate through decisions in fighting this disease. Doctor Merrill throughout has been very persistent in looking for an effective means of lowering her optic pressure. Instead of immediately suggesting surgery he has worked with us every step of the way in exhausting less invasive solutions first. Due to his efforts we have been fortunate enough to find eye drops that have done a good job in lowering her pressure readings. I recently had an eye test for glasses at Costco and was advised that I had a bad cataract in one eye. I was told that if both eyes were like that one I would not be allowed to drive a car. Soon after I made an appointment with Dr. Merrill. After a series of tests he presented the pros and cons of doing a procedure where the cataract is removed and replaced with a lense. Again, as in my wifes case, there was no rush to surgery. He simply reviewed his findings and together we discussed the best option. Yesterday I had the cataract removal procedure on the eye. I was petrified with the idea of keeping my eye open while someone worked on it. Not to worry. The relaxation drugs they give you really do work and actually I have no recollection of the procedure itself. This morning I had a follow up appointment with the Doctor and the problem eye now has 20-20 vision. Everyone involved is elated with this result. Obviously the Doctor cannot guarantee that every patient will have a result like this. However, I would like to tell anyone considering this surgery not to let fear stand in their way. The results are worth it. I can also say that in a world where there is so much mediocrity it is so refreshing to have a Doctor that knows his specialty area and really cares about his patients. My wife and I give Pacific Eye our highest recommendation - and Dr. Merrill in particular! read more

Got referred to see Dr. Sherman for an emergency appointment for an eye infection. They got me in right away. Front desk receptionist was very kind (and getting kinder with each follow up appointment). They fixed me up right away. The billing department was very helpful. The doctor did a quick but thorough evaluation of my eye and by the second appointment I could open my eye again. Each appointment was only a few minutes wait. Really impressed with everyone there. read more

Dr. Higginbotham did my lasik surgery a year ago and today I visited his new offices in San Luis Obispo for the first time for my annual follow-up. I am thrilled with the results of my surgery and can now read without any glasses or contact lenses. For my annual visit, I was taken on time and all of the staff from the front desk to the technicians were extremely nice to me. After my exam was completed, I had a number of questions about cataracts. Dr. Higginbotham explained everything to me; he is so knowledgeable and thorough. I've had great experiences here and will continue on as a patient. read more

I would actually not give this office staff 1 star. The receptionists are all so very rude. I have been there four times to see Dr. Sherman and will not go back. I have already found a new eye dr. Because of the way I was treated every visit. read more

First, I'd like to say that Dr. Higginbotham is amazing! My review will begin to make sense in a moment. Having seen him every 4 months for dilated eye exams for the last 3 years, I can honestly say I have always left feeling all my questions were answered thoroughly, generous time was spent, and felt well cared for... That is, until I began running into issues with the office staff last year. For starters, the individuals handling patient relations are incredibly rude and unfriendly. Being a medical office manager myself, I may have overly high expectations of front office personnel. However, I completely agree with the other reviewer. My issues began occurring when they (in addition to their general rudeness) took the wrong patient back, causing me to wait for over an hour. When the time came that I needed to leave to pick my child up from daycare, I asked to reschedule and they profusely apologized for taking another patient back mistakenly who should have been seen after my exam. The second time I returned, I again waited over an hour for my appointment with no acknowledgement or updates from office staff about the status of my appointment. The next issue I ran into was when they had me come in for a visual field test. A week or so later, I came back for the results and met with Dr. Higginbotham. Two days later, I received another call from the office staff stating the wrong test had been performed and I needed to come back again. I rescheduled the appointment, although irritated about the situation. The same day I received a bill in the mail for my original visual field exam. I notified the billing office immediately of the situation and that the claim needed to be retracted from insurance. I was told that it would not happen because it was a "pain" to do, and instead they would write off charges for my next visit. While in theory this is a simple solution, this resulted in my bill of $88 to be thirty days past due prior to even having the correct exam--completely unacceptable. To be clear, it is insurance fraud to bill a plan knowingly for incorrect services or those that were never performed. I brought this to the billing manager's attention, who insisted I was wrong and laughed me off. I demanded she fix the issue immediately. Two weeks and two phone calls later, nothing had been done to remedy the situation. I ended up having to file a grievance with my insurance. After receiving another bill for the $88, I finally received notice from my insurance two months later that they had canceled the claim on behalf of the provider due to them failing to retract it in a timely manner. I canceled my repeat visual field exam with Pacific Eye and sadly will not be returning to an amazing ophthalmologist. I hope these providers open their eyes and realize the quality of a patient's care is so greatly affected by front office. I am very disappointed about needing to transfer care to another practice due to fraudulent billing, lazy and condescending billers, and a horrible office staff. read more

Had cataract surgery by Dr. Abrams. I swear he put someone else's lens in my right eye! I see worse than I did before the surgery! He also BOTCHED my upper and lower eyelids. I now have black wings above my eyes and black lines down my cheeks, where he cut down them as part of the eye job?? What an idiot! I am permanently scarred and my face is a mess. They offered to refund me 1/4 the amount that was charged by them. What a joke! And another slap in the face of a face that was severely BOTCHED by them! read more

Poor eye tests for my wife and myself, improper billings on our Medicare Plan, rude, argumentative staff, poor eye exam resulting in vision less than before and the need to go somewhere else for glasses and contacts, O.D. knew little if anything about gas permeable contacts, putting fluid in eyes for dilation then attempting to read and eye chart and then calling back for another exam day and charges! You will be vastly disappointed at this place, look elsewhere. read more

I had to do cataract surgery in both eye's but my eye's had intact that were done 30 years ago as an experimental procedure and this type of procedure had been phased out because of Lasic and no longer recommended. Dr Higginbotham went to a lot of trouble to do background research in order to give me the best options. I feel very comfortable with his expertise and I feel assured that I received the best that I could get. I have had some problems with reception but my eyes come first and most of the time the problems arise from knowing which office to go to. I can get over the staff, that is not a deal breaker. I was extremely pleased with the work Dr. Abroms did for me. In May he removed a cataract in my left eye and put in a new multi-focal lens. Three weeks later he did the right eye, same procedure; however, this time he used a newer antibiotic that didn't require me to purchase the drops. I had pain and swelling in that eye. His staff promptly opened the office after hours and administered to my needs. Three months later Dr. Abroms did an eyelift for me. I am so pleased, absolutely no problems. I look ten years younger. It was life altering to be able to see so clearly. Add that to looking younger, and I'm a happy camper. read more
