I'm sad to be writing this review, but I think it's important to warn anyone of Pacific Heights Cleaners. The staff are nice enough, but my puffy coat was just ruined. I had brought it in because of some water stains and left with new stains and ruined buttons. I was devastated. I pointed out the new stains and the damaged buttons and was told "we are not liable for button damage" and they didn't take any responsibility for the new stains. I think the worst part is, they were pretty much calling me a liar, saying the damage around the buttons was already there. I've worked in customer service for over 20 years and I couldn't believe that they wouldn't take responsibility for the damage- going as far as saying "it was already like that". They didn't even offer to refund me for the service. Very unprofessional. Anyway, this is a warning for anyone reading these reviews (I wish I had read more) - pick a different dry cleaner. read more

Very sad to be writing this after being a happy customer for over 20 years at both Fillmore and Sausalito locations. Be aware this business is now under new ownership and as a result basic mistakes are being made affecting day to day operations. They recently lost a linen blazer of mine (part of a work uniform) which was to be dry cleaned and held for in-store pickup. After driving from San Rafael, I was told it was "missing" and they would ask their staff if anyone had seen it. Calling in the next day, I was informed it was still missing, best guess it was sent to the wrong customer. There were no apologies, just that this would likely take "days longer" - very vague at best. This does me little good as I urgently need this item as part of a work uniform. At this point I have only a verbal promise they will return my jacket. Any assurance of financial reimbursement from this loss/their error was quickly disregarded. Overall unacceptable. Sadly, I will not be returning and encourage others to re-evaluate their options as well. Would rate this business as zero stars, but Yelp is prompting me to select a star rating in order to post this review, thus a reluctant one star. read more

I used to love this dry cleaners and I admire what Karl Huie is all about (Breast Cancer awareness/helping animals). However I think the prices for dry cleaning and alterations are excessive. I have repeatedly asked to speak to the owner and the people who work there just tell me that he is not available. I have left my number with them, along with notes and nothing. The communication is not right. Wth a business and local customers, there should be a method to communicate with the owner. I have since found another cleaners/alterations. I have lots of business and now have to go to Mill Valley. It's a shame. Missed opportunity. P.S. Also, why are the prices so high? The alterations in Mill Valley are about half as much. I understand the dry cleaning, but the alterations? It cost me over $30 to fix a 1/4 inch hole in a pair of work out pants! read more

As a follow up to Carl's comment...no, there were no extra garments, and no tailoring was done, and I have the reciept to prove it. There were sequins on my shirt so perhaps that required special cleaning that I wasn't made aware of. Otherwise, perhaps I was accidentally over-charged. Despite the claim that Pacific Cleaners would never charge so much for two shirts, however, there is still no way I will return; the shirt that I was charged $40 to have cleaned? I just wanted to thank you for the excellent work cleaning my wedding gown. I recently bought the most beautiful Vera Wang Lux off the rack at the Glamour Closet in the city. It was the perfect dress, fit perfect and perfection in LACE. When I tried it on for my mom we found some water stains on the train. 2 other cleaners told me they could not get it out. I've been using Pac Heights cleaners over the past couple years with great results - they're a bit pricey, but the quality of work is exceptionally high. At the end of last year, a couple of my cashmere and merino sweaters began to give me an allergic reaction. I wasn't sure what was happening, and Karl offered to try cleaning a sweater without fragrance - and voila it worked. Without a question, Pac Heights took all of my sweaters in, cleaned them gratis without fragrance, and now I've got them back. Other cleaners wouldn't have shown this level of integrity and service. We have patronized this cleaner's Sausalito location for more than 20 years. We were known on sight by the current owner, Karl Huie, and previous to this problem we were satisfied by the work, except for the huge pricing. Recently we brought a ladies' dress jacket, white with a black sleeve stripe that had a small makeup stain inside the collar. Karl was working behind the counter when we brought it in and the employee and we verified that this was the only stain. When we went to pick it up the staff sheepishly showed us a black sleeve stain that matched the existing black stripe. They said that they had not touched the stain because their process would only make it worse. They denied that they had caused the stain and said that it had to be there when we brought it, even though they inspected it and found no stain other than the collar. They offered to send it out to another cleaner who had conventional dry cleaning, but at our cost. We asked to speak to Karl but he refused to talk to us except to say that he stands behind his staff. The manager did call us and confessed that they use a water-based process that would make the black stripe color run, but that they never touched the piece at all. When we got it home there was a clear circular discoloration around the stain that could only come from someone applying some treatment. Clearly we will never return to this ripoff place, with its uninterested, unprofessional owner. read more

I brought in my 3 year old Cashmere Bomber jacket for dry cleaning that my wife bought me from Gene Hillers in Sausalito where we have been buying clothes for over 30 years. When I put it on after cleaning it had gone from a medium to an extra large. I brought it back to Gene Hiller, one of the finest stores in the Bay Area, and they said the jacket had been improperly cleaned and the elastic had been steamed and stretched and the jacket ruined. The cleaner refused to honor my insurance request and said.."Take me to court." Which I will do. Avoid..Avoid Avoid them in case any thing goes wrong. Especially with a $700 jacket which they ruined and tried to tell me the elastic wore out. Right. Avoid Avoid Avoid this place. read more

Despite the good cleaning service and green methods I am no longer returning due to the unprofessional behavior of the employees. It's closer to my home than my usual cleaner in Mill Valley so I thought give it a few chances. I've brought items here 4 times and have spent quite a bit to clean the large items. They offer free pickup and delivery, but the male associate who it there during weekends tried to get out of delivering my items when I asked- I had to ask 3 times to get him to agree to it. I assume free means the fee is baked into the cleaning price. The male associate always asks me inappropriate sexist questions -- such as"am I married?" "Where am I going later?" All I say is what I need cleaned and when I need it back. On my last visit I brought a dress with a stain and asked if they could try to remove it. 2 women took a look and said they would try for $10 but if it ruined the dress they'd still charge me $10. After spending over $400 as a customer you'd think they'd overlook $10 if the dress is ruined. So I will stay with the cleaner in Mill Valley. They seem to have no clue about professionalism. read more

I brought my wedding dress to this dry cleaners to see if they could repair some of the damage done by another dry cleaners. I was told that they clean their wedding dresses in house, which made me hopeful they would be able to help me. My experience with the man who looked at my dress was very distressing. Before the dress was cleaned last November, it was in excellent condition except for dirt around the hem. It was returned to me with black spots (presumably mold) and a water mark around the skirt after being dry cleaned. After much time looking at the dress, the man at Pacific Heights said, "I think I have some news you won't like." Assuming he meant he couldn't fix the dress, I asked what he meant, and he said "I think the dress was left wet". I asked further, "You mean the dry cleaners left the dress wet?". He responded, "No, I think you left it wet". First of all, how the dress became damaged was not in question, the damage was done by the previous dry cleaner. I was there to discuss with him if he could fix the dress, not to be accused of lying. I told him that I was frustrated he accused me of lying and left. And I will not go back. Not only did Pacific Heights Cleaners lose the $300 I was fully prepared to spend at the ATTEMPT of fixing my dress, but they also lost all future revenue from all the clothes I was going to take to be cleaned. read more

Karl at PHC recently gave me a tour of his business. I was immediately impressed by how the place smelled. I didn't have that chemical smell like other places. Every thing in the place, from detergents to machines to what covers the clothing, has been selected with an eye toward how it impacts the environment. Karl has taken a leadership role in his quest to make dry cleaning less harmful to people and the environment. I think what he is doing is absolutely great! read more

Pacific heighs cleaners in Sausalito is the only true "green dry cleaner" around, its important to me that my clothes stay away from harsh solvents, and I like the reusuable garment bags and hangers. Parking is easy, and there is never much of a wait to pick up my clothes. read more

Love this place! Service is quick and great! They've taken out spots that I thought were in there to stay! Plus they put the way you like your stuff done in their computer so you only need to tell them the first time you bring something in. Karl and everyone at PHC are great!! They always go above and beyond to provide great service. They are professional and always courteous. Our clothes are always returned in perfect condition with no chemical smell. I love that they offer reusable garment bags which saves all the plastic that used to cover our cleaned clothes, I don't know why everyone doesn't take advantage of this service....its a great bonus. Back in 2010 we had heavy rains and my wedding dress sat in a moldy closet for a few weeks before it came to my attention. In desperation I called around the county and decided to bring my wedding dress and coats here. They actually quoted me the best price, and I LOVED the fact that they are an Eco cleaner. Let me tell you , my wedding dress is a huge ballgown with layers and layers of tulle. They got rid of the mold, fluffed all the layers of tulle and gave me a better bag as well as moisture pads to soak up any moisture. The coats were in like new condition. Some were leather , some faux fur , different textures , pea coats , etc and they all came back perfect. I finally got married on Dec, 2, 2014 and my wedding dress looked amazing. This winter I brought in a maroon Christmas sweater that I purchased at the city garage sale. When I picked it up , my maroon sweater turned out to actually be bright red. I could tell the sweater desperately needed to be cleaned , but I never imagined how great a job Pacific Heights Cleaners would do. They have also cleaned some expensive down blankets for me and done a great job. I don't dry clean regularly, but if I do , I go here ! read more

On the other hand, though I firmly declined 'scent', all the clothes smelled horrible when we got them back--like cheap grandma perfume. We all want clean clothes, but the drycleaning business has always posed a serious threat to the environment. The chemicals used by most drycleaners are noxious and toxic. I would hate to work in that environment. Now there is an alternative. PHC is a certified green drycleaner. The owners are friendly, service oriented, and really care about making this a better planet. I toured their Sausalito plant recently and learned that there is such a thing as eco-friendly drycleaning. Very helpful and friendly staff; they treat each customer like an old friend. They iron shirts and trousers perfectly -- and store your preferences, so they only have to ask once if you want starch or a crease. I used Karl and Pacific Heights Cleaners to clean a moldy duvet that had accidentally been left out in the rain and forgotten for a few days. The smell was so bad I thought it was pretty much a lost cause, but since it was so expensive I thought I'd bring it down to Pacific Heights to get their opinion on if it could be rescued from the dumpster. Karl explained that he could remove the smell and mold but could not guarantee that all the brown staining would disappear, since it had been so long outside. I decided to go for it and had them clean it. When I returned to pick it up I was amazed at how clean it looked and how fresh looking and how fresh smelling it was. There were one or two small permanent brown stains on one side of the duvet that Karl had warned about, but the duvet was saved!
