I have never done any "alternative therapy" healing or any healing because I successfully care for myself, am healthy, on no medications and have only seen a doctor once in the last 30 years for an injured knee. Well, the instructor mentioned Shelly Stephenson as a resource and her chosen modality. Wow! What a smart, knowledgeable, good-humored, effective, down-to-earth practitioner! That she (in a former life) was an accomplished dancer lends factual credence that she knows the human anatomy, not just from books, coursework and clinical settings, but also from her personal artist-athlete experience. I did 10 structural integration sessions with Shelly, Shelly did all the work. My body flows like it hasn't flowed since I was a teenager. One day, after a session with Shelly, I noticed that I take short little steps when briskly walking, and realized that was my bodies learned compensation and I could now take longer strides with ease. I had never had that perspective before. On the basketball court, for the first time, I could dribble between my legs as the length of my stride was enough to now allow the ball to pass through. That was another recognition that my body has changed, more optimally, its relationship with itself. And yoga? In the mirrors, though I can do some poses well, many asanas are accomplished better, I have much more grace of movement and range of motion. I feel good. I am hip. And if Shelly sees that a different approach will be better for you, she will gladly refer you to someone of quality she knows in the vast world of Portland's healing modalities. Pilates with Shelly has made me more flexible and much stronger. I recently did a series of KMI sessions with Shelly. Each session focuses on a different area, but is adapted to suit particular needs. In my case, Shelly helped greatly with my chronic lower back and hip pain, freeing up areas that felt "stuck." My muscles feel longer and my posture is better. I feel like I am moving more freely. KMI is amazing, and Shelly is great!

But with my new job in a clinic, I couldn't make it to their bi-annual BLS class so I had to look for external instructors. Annette was impressive. She knew a lot more than I expected her to and she imparted a lot of extra information, tips, for when you need to perform CPR, BLS, or if an adult/child is choking, that only a paramedic, nurse, or doctor with experience would know. I never got that specialized information from the people who worked for the hospitals teaching CPR/BLS. She is professional and organizes her class very well, so you get all the information from AHA, and you do all the different simulations, within the shortest period of time. She responded very quickly to my emails and she helped me save money as well. I highly recommend her.

This provider is a short walk from Trimet in the Gateway area. They provided snacks, coffee, tea and water as well as cushioned chairs. My trainer today was Tim and he did a great job keeping things engaging and fun while providing feedback. Tim is an excellent trainer as he really understands the material and which pieces are the most important to understand and remember in a crisis situation. He met us where we were at, always polite and respectful and taking time to get to know us a bit. I highly recommend taking training here and I hope to return in the future!
