Booked a prenatal massage, something I was desperately looking forward to, and it was the worst massage experience I've had. It was 85 degrees outside, there was no AC in the room, she had the bed warmer on and a heavy blanket with just the window thrown open to all the lovely street noise. There was absolutely zero support for my belly or hips. I'm 6 months pregnant, this is a huge deal. I was obviously uncomfortable. The massage itself was horrible, and felt more like I was getting oil rubbed on me gently. I also don't know if she was sick, but the coughing and sniffing throughout the massage definitely had me even more tense. I was extremely let down by this whole experience, from start to finish, and would not recommend this place; at least to pregnant women. Will not be returning. read more

I scheduled an appointment with Richelle with no expectations. I was experiencing acute upper back pain and she was the first clinic to return my call. I was panicking about finding someone to relieve my pain before embarking on a physically challenging vacation in a few days. Richelle was enormously knowledgeable. She was patient and focused as she methodically massaged to the heart of my discomfort. She clearly has an understanding of human anatomy and the interconnection of each muscle. I get so frustrated with the new-agey vibe that often accompanies massage clinics. It's just not my thing but if I want a massage I have to muscle through the hippy dippy stuff. Richelle was refreshingly clinical and she got right to work. 90 minutes later I could hardly feel the pain that brought me to Richelle in the first place. I highly recommend Richelle from Self Balance Massage. The clinic isn't exactly a "spa" experience but, in this case, you can't judge a book by its cover. A real massage by people who are actually trained well. Compare this to the other places in town (that we've tried) and there is no comparison. Not that you can't get a relaxing massage at those other places but those aren't REAL massages by people who know a whole lot about what they are doing nor studied the body and have experience enough to address tricky issues. I came in for the first time today feeling achy with a back full of knots. By the end of my hour long treatment Crystal's therapeutic touch was able to cure me of all my aches and pains. I'd been working nights "Flagging" traffic. My whole body was sore. I came in and saw Tina (Harris). She listened to my reasons for coming in and started on working on my sore muscles. Oh my goodness, The relief I felt while she was massaging my back, shoulders and neck!! She used hot stones on me (which is my favorite). I have been getting monthly-ish massages from Sandy for a couple of years now (I have followed her to three different locations!), and I am delighted to recommend her services. Sandy has a wonderful demeanor that makes you feel comfortable the minute you walk through the door. She's very accommodating to whatever your muscles need at any given time, and the massage itself is a perfect combination of healing and relaxing. I frequently have extremely tight muscles that Sandy is able to coax back to normal with a minimum of discomfort, both during the massage and the next day. And Sandy has made a believer out of me with the hot stones -- they truly feel like an adjunct to the therapy and not just a gimmick. Even though I was hesitant at first, now I look forward to them. When I visit Sandy, it's more like visiting an incredibly competent and caring friend than just a message therapist.
