I came with a large group of people, we had reservations at 6pm on a Friday night. They sat us down at 6:30 and we got our food by 8pm. We waited a very long time for the menus, for the drinks and the food. The waitress would forget what we asked her and it would take her twice as long to get something. I wasn't even going to say anything about this restaurant until I realized how dirty the table was. They never once cleaned the plates besides the ones the food came on. Mind you- every person has a personal plate, little saucer for soy sauce and a cup of water. So those plates end up everywhere, the cups you don't even know who's is who's anymore. They never even cleaned the empty wine glasses or asked if we wanted more. Every person is different and some won't mind but I like to eat when my table is clean and not filled with dirty plates. Oh and another thing. It was a birthday so we had cake, they made the birthday girl cut her own cake and didn't even give her a knife. read more

I have eaten here three times. I have had a bento box, which was very generous in size and very good vegetable tempura. I also like the Siam noodles, a red curry dish very well prepared. it has just the right kick. I was a little disappointed in the lemongrass, it was all the same color, very bland. For desert, the green tea ice cream is very smooth and has just the right amount of sweetness. Very creamy, big enough to share. Surprising as the same owner was walking around so he must see it's not as good as it was. This is one of my favorite restaurants. Their food is so good, I wish I had two stomachs so I could eat their different dishes. On this trip, I had the fresh spring rolls. What is a fresh spring roll you say? Don't worry, I took a picture. I like Pacific Rims fresh spring rolls much more than the Vietnamese restaurants' fresh spring rolls in town. They have a secret spice that makes them stand out. Then I had the salmon sashimi....hhhaaarraahhhh....(sound Homer Simpson makes.) They melted in my mouth! I am fussy with my sushi--it has to melt in my mouth. The spicy tuna roll was fresh too! I think Pacific Rim is still the best Sushi in Sarasota. I really wished they were open for lunch on Saturday. After I finished eating, I saw it. Two tuna towers! The couple on my left were having some. I wanted to take a picture so badly. I have to come back and get this! We thought we would avoid the regular dinner rush that we had often run into, so we arrived at 5:00pm when Pacific Rim was opening for dinner. Our server was very friendly although I believe maybe she was in the back getting ready for the busy evening?? We did not see her much at all. Some of the other servers put SEVERAL orders in for us as well as the hostess while passing etc. I was confused on how to divide up the tip!! As for our dinner....it was okay, a lot of cream cheeses in most the rolls!! We tried some sashimi, a couple of raw rolls along with Pad Thai. The dinner wasn't bad, just not great. I thought my martinis were VERY small for the price, plus most of it was running down the side of the glass, this happened to each one they served. Maybe they need bigger glasses?? Very nice atmosphere, pretty people all dressed up, very swank!! If you like average this could be your spot. Maybe we will have better luck next time. As for next time we went to a birthday party with a table of 8 just a few weeks ago (09/08) and had the best meal ever with excellent service!! I love it here and have been coming here for years. It has a modern, trendy feel and the outside area is normally set up to have Miami clubb-ish vibe. The sushi is always good and there are lots of choices. But my favorite is the pineapple fried rice with scallops. The scallops are perfectly cooked and there are always plenty in the dish. Holy crap this place is terrible. I'm worried that I'm just spoiled from living in a competitive sushi market and the standards are just abysmally low here. I was referred to here by a concierge at the hotel and I knew in my gut he didn't know the first thing about sushi. My first clue that this place should have been the broken sign out front. Next was that I couldn't communicate with the server, she didn't know the first thing about sushi. I ordered nigiri and sashimi mostly and I had to explain how to wrap the seaweed. I'm not a chef and I can't explain how to make it I only know what it looks like. We ordered uni and it never came after painfully asking her and explaining that I want it nigiri style not sashimi style. The ginger comes in pickled 2 months ago style, I asked for fresh ginger and surprised that they had it, but they sliced it so large that it wasn't edible. We ate here tonight for the first time and the food was excellent my husband had the seafood veggie dish over Drunken Noodles mildly spicy, I had the veggies over fried rice we were very satisfied with the flavor and portion size. We also enjoyed the Won Ton Soup, delicious. I saw several of the Sushi rolls being served and they all looked delicious. We will definitely be back and will order some of the sushi as well. Really this is a 3.5 star place for me. I'm conflicted. It's good, but not amazing. It also has somewhat of a weird vibe. It's located in a small strip plaza. It's dark inside and kind of tries to put out a club vibe. The women in there are all dressed in short black attire. Most of them are young too. They usually have house music playing. It's definitely trying hard to be trendy, but I do appreciate that it's more upscale than a typical Asian cuisine restaurant. It's a popular spot, you can definitely expect to wait, especially on the weekend, but they do take reservations. They have a lot of good drink options here. I've even gotten the large drinks to share which is fun. The menu has a mix of both Thai and sushi options. I usually go for the Thai dishes but have tried their sushi a few times. They have your traditional Thai curries, noodle dishes, rice dishes and some different special dishes. They have a fairly large sushi menu with traditional rolls, sashimi, sushi, and chef special rolls. The appetizer/salad/soup menu has the usual Asian offerings. I typically go with the jalapeno poppers for an appetizer and the Siam noodles for my main course (noodles with shrimp & veggies in a red curry). Everything is good here, it just doesn't blow me away. The portions are quiet large and I always take about half of my dinner home. The prices aren't bad either - definitely fair for the quantity and quality. The service is also typically attentive and good. I've only had poor service once, so it was probably just an off night. I'll definitely continue to come here...especially since it's a half a mile down the road from us! read more

Really upset because the sushi is pretty good but the service is BEYOND terrible!! Came in with boyfriend and two friends.. Took about 15 min or a server to even realize we were there. Once greeted, my glass of wine took Another 15 min and my boyfriends beer never came. Once I asked the server she said "oops." then our sushi came and of course my soup didn't. Then as we were eating our dinner, our server SAT down at a table in the middle of the dinning room near our table and ate a meal with 2 other employees!! I couldn't believe it. Really wanted some good sushi and we had been here in the past, although not for several years. I like that they have a full service bar with some inventive house cocktails. We were seated on the bar side of the restaurant (we did not have reservations, which I did not realize they accepted) It's a tad noisier there as the bar was crowded and it has less "atmosphere" than the main area, but that was no big deal. Our server was able and pleasant. We decided on a boat plus a spider roll with some hot saki. We were hungry and it's a good way to sample the fish varieties and their freshness. It was a more than ample amount of food, but it was just ok as to taste. The sashimi was almost tasteless and sliced a lot thicker than I am accustomed to at other places. All the rolls seemed to be cut into an odd number of pieces--another unusual occurrence and a pain when you are sharing. Plus only there was only one piece each of the shrimp and eel sushi. Again not good when you are sharing and each like everything being served. Overall, we would return, although next time I might decide to try the hot dishes instead of the sushi. read more

I just got sent here from the concierge at our hotel and i really wanted some fried rice. I noticed it was more tai than chinesse so I asked the hostess if the fried rice was chinesse or thai. She said it was Thai. Ive never had Thai fried rice so I asked what the difference was. I wanted to know if it was sweeter, other veggies or what. She just said its healthier. I said ok since I do like trying new things. My surprise was after she sat us down she went to make fun of us w the server. One of my favorite restaurants in Sarasota! Pacific Rim is always packed for dinner Friday, Saturday and Sunday night so call ahead for a table or be prepared to wait 30-45 minutes. When the weather is nice the outside patio is a great spot to enjoy a meal. The sushi is exceptionally good and exceptionally expensive. If sushi is not your thing there are many cooked dishes. The best deal on the menu are the wok bowls. For $12-$18 you get a curry bowl with your choice of protein, vegetables and sauce. My favorite wok bowls are the cashew nut, pad prik coconut and the sweet chili wok bowl. The seafood portions can be a little small so I'd reccomend getting the seafood combination. The restaurant offers a very solid martini menu. I have seen quite a few parties held at Pacific Rim. Service can be hit or miss. We've had a mix of great and not so great service. FYI: lunch is served Monday through Friday, but not on the weekends. read more

I am not a sushi eater :-) Nope, I don't like it, but there is so much more than sushi at Pacific Rim. I absolutely LOVE their pad thai! I ask for no chicken and more egg and it is like eating food from heaven. The shrimp appetizer and spring rolls are amazing as well. These are the three main things I live on most of the time. However, I do love the garlic beef and dumplings. My husband loves the Texas Roll, fish and everything else they serve. My kids love the fried rice, appetizers and ice cream. What a disappointment!!This is what stands out in my mind after leaving lunch. The positives: good variety in the menu. Like that they had a choice where you could create your own roll. Presentations were all attractive. The negatives: Soft shell crab tempura with avocado and cucumber roll tasted only of rice and tempura batter all mushed together, except for the crunchy piece of cucumber. Google roll was nicely complex but tasted surprisingly boring. Too much rice? Not sure, but that same mushy fish quality. But the biggest disappointment? The Toro. I'm willing to spend $33 for 3 little sashimi i pieces as a treat, but I expect quality fatty tuna. Pacific Rim's was not. Pretty much cold tasteless regular tuna. Sinful! And one slice was falling apart because it was cut too thin and small. I actually showed the waitress and she was not particularly interested. After repeating my request to mention it to the chef she said, "He's the owner," and begrudgingly said she'd tell him. Pacific Rim, shame on you.
