Staff is friendly. They're always double booked. This location had the earliest availability which is quite a drive if you don't live in the area. The care is good so far for skin issues like eczema. Depending on who you see, they may rush in to see you quickly and then rush out just as fast. So preparing any questions early would be a good idea. read more

After another 15 minutes, I went up to the front desk and rescheduled so now I have to come back next week. Not sure if they even read reviews since these are all physician referrals but this is unacceptable. read more

This office called me the day before my appointment to cancel for some reason and asked if I wanted to reschedule for yet another month. as that was the next appointment they had . If I could give this place a 0 star I would. They canceled my appointment after waiting for over 3 months. They requested a new referral from our primary provider which was done by our end but wasn't sure why they didn't receive it. I called them right after getting a cancellation text to see if we can still make it work but they already scheduled someone else and offered me to wait for another 2 months. I would never go back this place and won't recommend anyone. Worst experience ever. read more

Pacific Skin Institute. Skin spot check: A woman came in the room and did not introduce herself. I smiled and she did not return my smile. She came right over and started combing through my hair with her fingers without saying a word. I asked if she was the doctor, she said, 'no, Nurse practitioner.' Nothing else... and continued to comb through my hair without explaining what she was doing, I have a lot of hair for my age and she looked at every inch of my scalp without again asking me if she could flip up my hair. It was okay, but then she started talking loudly and I finally said, 'I can hear you , you don't have to speak loudly.' She just kept on going. She didn't explain or acknowledge or crack a slight smile. She asked me to stand up and did burn a couple spots but she had such a cold manner. I'm 67, but look in my fifties and this was the first time a clinician spoke so loudly to me. But whatever... I asked about burning spots off and laser for a spot on my face.. She said insurance didn't cover that and I said 'that's okay, I'll pay out of pocket.' Never a smile, or have a good day, she just spoke to the girl recording and left me. When I went to the front to check out, I asked about the cost of nitrous oxide/burning off spots and the receptionist told me the N.P. had said $120.00 for the first spot and $20.00 for each spot after that. I was so surprised, I had to ask again. I said when I heard, 'it was way too much.' I don't care about the money, it's just I don't like to be robbed. Golden State Dermatology where I moved from the Bay Area (a more expensive area) charged $150.00 for 20 spots. So I told her and she said, that's what the N.P. said, I said, 'highway robbery,' It wasn't her fault and genuinely kind, I told the receptionist to have a wonderful weekend. She said the same in a very nice way. What kind of healthcare has a clinician, the N.P., never smiling and we did lock eyes at one point and still no warmth or facial change or telling of her name, how do they get away with no 'complementary patient care' and be that rude? Yesterday we had a bad experience with the girl who works in the lobby, the one who helps with medical appointments. She made me waste my waiting time. The whole ordeal was recorded on camera, and she refused to help me, reschedule my appointment, or give me the excuse document for my son's school. You should be kinder and more empathetic towards Hispanic people. I felt so uncomfortable not receiving your help. read more

This was the most unprofessional medical appointment I have ever experienced. Maybe everyone was having an off day??? The Dr was very dismissive, and didn't explain anything to me. She walked in with a freeze canister and zapped a couple of spots, still with no communication. One place she froze was on my back - shirt off. Thank goodness the experience was so bad because I went to Roseville Derm and they found a Basil Cell that could have turned into something unfortunate! I've been here twice and I really like the service here. They usually get me in close to the actual appt time unlike many medical/doctor offices who just cram in as many appointments as possible. I also like the service I receive from the personnel. Very kind, professional, quick. I was referred to this place due to my sons skin condition and I appreciate the time, energy and effort the dr puts in to create a schedule/regime for my son treatment. I also appreciate the anticipation from dr, the idea to order an abundance of medication just so I don't have to keep calling in to request a refill like other dr offices is helpful. 10/10 read more

I am baffled at the low rating for Pacific Skin Institute. This was my second visit here and both visits I received the kindest, friendliest and warmest care. Last year I had a different doctor and she was very attentive answering all of my questions and concerns. Never felt rushed or in need to complete my appointment at all and I didn't have to wait too long for my appointment after I arrived. This year about a week ago when I went in for my yearly mole check I was seen by Dr. Evelyn Kaovorakarn. The check in was friendly and welcoming and I was called into the examination room a few minutes before my scheduled time. Dr. Kaovorakarn was very friendly, warm, attentive and took the time to listen to all of my concerns and answered my concerns with questions of her own to narrow down my symptoms and ease my mind of concerns. She then began the yearly mole check since I am prone to melanoma. Starting at the head top and all the way to my feet she thoroughly checked my body and gave me friendly advice on how to protect myself from potential skin cancer. She also explained what some of my moles were and what to look for in case of any changes that would need further treatment before my next year appointment if needed. I have had the same itchy patch on one area on my back for the past year plus now that no one has been able to diagnose or provide any solution. Dr. Kaovorakarn was the first to take the time to suggest I apply lotion to the area after a shower each time and that in good time the itching should stop. She mentioned that if I continue to itch the spot as I have been I will end up with a worse condition that will only make the itchy patch worse and asked me to please stop itching as best as I can. There is no other place I would rather go to than Pacific Skin care for my care and treatment. read more

I was referred to this practice by my primary care. I checked to be sure they were in network for my Aetna PPO, and they are. Aetna told me they would pay 100% after my $45 co-pay. I received an email from Hills Physician group asking me to complete pre-appointment paperwork online, which I did. When I arrived, the front office staff told me that the Hill's paperwork was different from theirs and I would need to fill out their paperwork. As I read the terms on their paperwork, it said patients were responsible for 100% of the charges regardless of insurance status. I went to the front desk staff and asked if that meant I had to pay in full up front and then submit for reimbursement to Aetna. She responded I didn't have to submit for reimbursement if I didn't want to. I asked if I had to pay the full bill up front, or if they would bill the insurance and I would only play the portion not covered. She said I had to pay up front. I told her that was a deal breaker and cancelled my appointment, letting her know on my way out that they should disclose this when they are signing up new patients at the time of booking the appointment, not after they have waited weeks to get in only to find out they won't bill the insurance directly. My family and I have been patients here for the last 3-4 years. We have had issues in the past with rescheduling appointments and not being notified on multiple occasions. This is highly frustrating considering we have to take time off work and travel some distance to get there. I scheduled an appointment in April and the earliest I could be seen was July 25. My appointment was for a potential skin cancer on my face. I have had biopsies there in the past for the same issue. I also have a family history of skin cancer, which PSI is aware of. I was notified two days before my appointment that I needed to update my insurance. I was out of the country and did not have cell service and could not respond immediately. I thought no problem as I will bring my insurance card in and update like I do with any other medical provider. I received a text less than 24 hours of my appointment that my appointment was canceled because I failed to provide my new insurance information. I texted back immediately and asked that I keep my appointment as I have been waiting for months and really needed to be seen. No response. I then called the office and asked why they would cancel my appointment and tried to explain the situation. I was told that it's their policy and they would "try" and reschedule me in a few weeks, but first they would go no farther with me until they had my insurance information which they made me wait until they ran it and it confirmed that I was covered. I asked to speak to a manager and of course they were out. I'm still waiting for a call back. I finally got a text back and was told it's their policy to cancel appointments if your insurance is invalid. Sure wished they would have told me that the first time! I guess standard of care is not a priority for them. It seems a little unethical they will cancel an appointment regardless of the circumstances just to make sure they get paid in the end. Here I sit like all the other folks who have posted in this forum hoping that whatever I have is not serious. Caution to anyone who is looking for a new dermatologist, I suggest you look elsewhere. Omg. My Dr referred me to them. I called them after my referral was approved to set up an appt. I was told they don't accept the electronically sent referral and that it has to be faxed. I asked my referral dept if they could fax, but not sure if they did. I sent a copy of the referral to the Pacific Skin and they said they need one from the referral dept with the codes and whatever. Pacific Skin institute is a mess, truly. They're constantly cycling through doctors, doctors are changing their main locations, and I've been grossly mistreated and gaslit by the doctors here. They do not respect nor consider a patients experience nor perspective when interacting with them over the phone or in person. Dr. Kory Lord is a PA at the rocklin location (majority of my care has been the Folsom location) and refuses to do telederm appointments, but I wasn't told this when I was transferred to her care. In fact, I was told the opposite, but I got blamed for that too. This is "personal preference" of hers, she is capable of accommodating patients with special needs, but she chooses not to. There are others doctors who participate in telederm appointments, but Kory refuses. The manager of the practice, Danielle, will gaslight you and threaten to ban if you bring up the dozens of inconsistencies you're going to face with this practice. I've had problems with my medications being sent/processed in the appropriate timeframe (I am on a medication with STRICT guidelines on when I can pick it up after having the proper labs/certification done on my end to receive this medication. There is little room for error if I want the treatment to be efficient and go smoothly. It's incredibly harmful when the practice itself is the reason I've had issues with my medication. A team of "qualified"people have to collectively fail in unison for what I've gone through to go wrong. I've had problems with the links of my telederm appointment being sent. I've had problems getting ahold of staff members. I've had problems with getting a call back from the manager (and then further being gaslight that I "never requested" this because it was done verbally, and as always with these places, if you don't do anything in writing it's a "he said she said" debate.) This is an especially gross behavior when dealing with the medical field. I've had problems seeing the same doctor consistently. I've had problems all around. Because of my insurance I am forced to be a patient with this facility(s), and because I'm in the middle of treatment I am forced to endure their tactics of disrespect and gaslighting because as they've already threatened, they will ban me from the practice for bringing attention to the duress they've subjected me too. I was only given a performative ounce of sympathy from the clinic manager, Danielle, after being reduced to tears while advocating for myself and attempting to reconcile the lies and misinformation I was told for my future treatment and care. I have real pain and real issues that need to be overseen by a medical professional, and just like that, if you call out their behavior, you're exiled. I do not recommend any Pacific Skin Institute location or this doctor. I will update my review if simply leaving this on their Google and Yelp "bans" me from their practice. (I am in the middle of care, on important medication, and very much actively need a licensed Doctor to assist me with my diagnosed medical needs. This is why it was so important for me to advocate about the inconsistencies and incompetencies Ive been dealing with. If they follow through with their threats, I would go back to being in pain again, and have wasted almost a year of suffering on intense medication for nothing.) read more

The front desk ladies are wonderful. Dr Keller and her assistants were kind and very helpful. I went in to remove a couple of moles. Being that I was extremely nervous about one of them the Dr and her team was supportive and understanding of the situation. Reassuring I wasn't going to feel a thing and it was going to be a quick process. It totally was quick and painless. Dr Keller did an amazing job! All removals closed up and healed quickly! The doctor I was working with at PSI essentially told me that I was wrong about the diagnosis that all my other doctors suggested, even though it wasn't relative to my dermatology services, so I switched to another provider. She's been good, but it definitely feels like a dermatology drive-thru; "Get in and get out!" and I don't feel my issues are addressed with very much seriousness. Trying to get an urgent appointment for anything that needs addressing immediately is impossible. You're guaranteed to be waiting two months or so to be seen. They don't do any sort of confirmation or appointment reminder, so if you are a patient who struggles with memory, mental health, or keeping organized because it's challenging in today's world, it's probably best to find a derm office that invests enough into their patients to do courtesy calls or emails. Overall, there are a couple of good providers here, but for the most part it seems PSI is more focused on their beach-side aesthetic and money making, rather than the patients. read more

I was trying to be seen by them, so my Dr. sent a referral. I got the one run around first they said they didn't get it. They don't take electronic referrals. I call back a week and half later and they sent my referral back since it didn't have my insurance on it. I don't know if this unprofessionalism is a reflection of the whole office, or they just hire bad, lazy staff. If that is the case, they need better staff. I asked my primary care physician for a different referral. I think this place would rather go out of business, than stay in it. read more

Dr Chambers and Dr Sivamani are both excellent doctors. Dr. Chambers is particularly wonderful. She's attentive, genuinely invested in my wellbeing, and empathetic. She has helped me so much with my autoimmune disease skin symptoms. I feel comfortable and confident under her care, especially since she and Dr Sivamani worked in research at UC Davis. Dr Chambers spent many years studying autoimmune diseases. Dr Sivamani is still involved in research. My only complaint is that I wish Dr Chambers was still at the Folsom office. Otherwise I have nothing but praise. Also, the office definitely does reminder calls. I have horrible memory issues and brain fog, so it's a requirement for me that my doctors do reminder calls or texts. PSI typically calls me 3-5 days before my next appointment. read more

I had a very good experience with Christopher Chad Norton P.A. and all of the staff. My Auburn dermatology clinic changed their policy for my insurance coverage. I needed to return to my local clinic due to the 52 mile difference in locations and my not being an expert driver. read more

Unbelievably horrible experience; I got a referral to come here from my GP and after suffering for decades I was really hopeful that I would get help here but as soon as the PA Marjon Samimi walked in, she was very discriminatory towards me. Without even asking if I had any other underlying conditions, without even looking at my skin, without asking ANY questions she tells me to lose weight. As if there isn't enough fat phobia in the world, someone I am PAYING to help me, just by looking at me, decided what will help my condition. I am shocked at the way my disorder was handled. That woman needs serious training when it comes to dealing with patients! I walked out and will be informing my GP about the treatment received. read more

Their staff, doctors and PA's know what they are doing and they do Mohr surgeries unlike my old dermatologist office..........I'm definitely glad I changed offices. read more

UPDATE: I have updated my rating from 1/5 stars to 3/5 stars. The Pacific Skin Institute sincerely addressed my concerns and went out of their way to make this right and for that, I would definitely give them another try. A representative, who was incredibly kind and thoughtful in our communications, called me to hear my concerns directly and made every effort to ensure I received some of my needed prescriptions before I traveled abroad. Without his expediting and involvement, I don't think it would have worked out. Not only did he help, but he stayed in constant communication with me the week leading up to my trip and checked in to ensure things were continuing to develop as we agreed/hoped would be possible before my departure. I am very grateful to have gotten at least some of the treatment (prescriptions) I needed because they have helped the skin condition on my face enough that the issue is far less noticeable and I don't feel the need to hide behind makeup. I do still hope to get to the root cause of the skin issue and why I have faced this for several years and what/if any can be done about it once I return, as well as understand my scalp issue. I plan to give PSI the opportunity to help me learn more and understand how to address the root cause and/or prevent continual flare ups in the future. While my original experience wasn't fantastic, I have never had an organization make such an effort to correct a concern and in such a genuine way - for that, I have renewed belief in and respect for them and can see that patient experience is a high priority. I do suggest that you give them a try and decide for yourself. Such a disappointing experience. 1) The PA seemed stumped by my skin condition and despite asking for help in understanding the root cause of the issue vs. just treating the symptoms (as has been done for several years now), agreed to some testing only after I pressed for it - which, of course, will be weeks/months out. I brought all my topical products and oral supplements to show her and while some of it was looked at, she made no comments on anything I was using and didn't make it clear what I should discontinue or keep using. 2) Very little was explained to me about the condition, the causes, and what to/not to do moving forward - very ambiguous communication about what I'm facing. She really didn't confirm or deny anything I shared about my history with this condition. It didn't leave me with a sense of understanding of my skin condition or any expertise. 3) I shared I've developed scalp symptoms recently and I'm not sure if it's related to the condition on my face. This was not addressed at all - no recommendations were given to me in terms of improving that issue, shampoo changes, or otherwise. 4) A week after my appointment the prior authorizations still have not been processed by the PA/Derm Office, so I can't pick up the prescriptions that were recommended. I have been jumping through hoops with my insurance trying to expedite this before a trip abroad, only to find out it's on this PSI Office who hasn't completed things on their end, not insurance. 5) The nurse/note taker that came in for the appointment, didn't even acknowledge me or make eye contact - I thought this was a very odd and cold interaction and not a good patient experience. 6) The appointment was rushed - the PA spent very little time with me, didn't touch my skin, didn't look at my skin under a light or magnifying glass, and didn't look at my scalp either despite bringing up that concern. It made me feel like she was disgusted by the skin condition and didn't want to engage with it/me. As if skin conditions on your face don't impact your confidence enough... 7) I have had an impossible time getting in contact with a person via the patient portal or phone since my appointment read more

I have been a patient for a few years, and felt the staff was first rate. Dr. Schulman seemed extremely well versed, and experienced. My issue is with the surgical side of the practice. I worked in an OR and know how "lesions" are removed surgically. Pacific Skin Institute uses "clean" not "sterile" technique. For me, that is not good enough. I will not be going back, and will be going a practice with Sutter in Sacramento. read more

Bad experience. Today was my first appointment, I was referred from my primary and asked to show up 15 minutes early for my 1:30 office visit. I showed up at 1:15, completed initial paperwork and then was taken to a room, asked some questions and told that I would be seeing the physician assistant. Crickets. At 2:10, I called the front desk and asked what was going on. Someone came in and told me that the PA was running about an hour behind. I asked why this wasn't brought to my attention sooner, as I work full time and had to rearrange my schedule for the appointment, plus I live in a different city. I wasn't given an answer other than he is behind. I waited until 2:30 before I left. I told the front desk not to bill my insurance and I will not be back. I called my referring provider for a new referral somewhere else, let them know what happened and suggested not to refer anyone else here. I also called my insurance carrier, explained what happened and told them not to process any claims from this provider for this visit as there was no evaluation or care. Absolute waste of time, no respect for your time, and no apology. read more

Took my child in for cyst removal on her chin. After examining said to schedule an ultrasound, why it couldn't have been done in the moment is beyond me since anytime we've had one done it was then and there; but whatever. Every time I tried to schedule one, I was on hold for 15+ min regardless of the time of business day. I called and let them know and got an apology and a keep trying. Still nothing. Then got a message saying that they have sent a referral for the procedure and to contact a number they provided for an appointment. Guess what? Number is no longer in service! Call again saying that # is not in service. "Ok here's a direct line to their office". Wrong again. It was to an automated system of which you had to chose a dept. Set up as "plastic surgery" but not an Option on the menu. Finally get in touch with an operator, gave my info and surprise, surprise "I'm sorry we don't have any information for this person or any referrals. So $600 and several weeks later we have a couple tubes of acne medication which is so harsh it leaves bad red blotches all over your face, some lotion and still have a cyst. read more

Unfortunately I would not recommend this place to anyone I went in for a spot to be checked out and she didn't want to get me in for a month later I said this is a spot that looks cancerous so she finally got me in through a cancellation and I had also been a previous patient there but they considered me new because I had not been there in 3 years so I got in and they did a biopsy and that was that she didn't say what she thought it was or she didn't even say to schedule a follow-up appointment I was just so anxious to get it done I didn't think about it so we can a half later I got the biopsy report it turned out negative but they the clerk also told me that if it changed or if it continued to bother me or something like that to call her back well it was still bothering me it hadn't gone away and it had been 4 weeks so I called to make an appointment and the earliest they could get me in was four months later I was shocked I said 4 months and I told her the situation and she said well I could get you in with another doctor sooner so that was oh good 3 months and then I said no I said I just saw the doctor two weeks ago I need this as a follow-up appointment and then she said well I could get you in Vacaville in December I said no way and this thing took place in November I wasn't going to drive all the way to Vacaville I wanted to see the same doctor anyway I just got so frustrated I just said I'll find some place else read more

I went here for the first time a couple of years ago. Everything went fine until the doctor had me remove all of my clothing so he can do his skin inspection. Nothing unusual here but what bothered me was I was in a large room and one of his admin girls was taking notes for him while I was in my underwear in full view. These girls aren't nurses but even if they were I would expect the doctor to have me behind a blind or partition or something else to prevent the world from seeing me in my underwear. Since that person only needed to hear the doctor this would be EASY to do. This really caught me off-guard and made me feel uncomfortable. Its amazing to me that nobody has ever complained about this before. How about allowing the patient to have a little bit of privacy and dignity when doing this? I won't be returning! read more

Since a really good doctor is hard find, I wanted to let people know that she is amazing! Not only is she really sharp but also empathetic and kind. A rare find.
