It's a great spot for your classic gym work-out's, but also as a change in pace for those who work from home (there's a separate work space where you can also rent out private room). Noise level is typically lively. Parking in the main lot is difficult especially after work or at noon (during weekday's) and is generally packed during the weekend - of note, there's an alternative parking lot to the side of the main lot for Bay Club-specific parking (approximately 5min walk). SERVICE Service was friendly, overall, as you're typically greeted by those at the front desk, which is lovely. I'd say there is room for improvement for my tour/meeting with the membership director when I first looked at Bay Club Courtside, as it felt that my question's were more of annoyances and that he wanted the meeting to be over with sooner than later. STANDOUT DETAIL What stood out most to me was the overall atmosphere and vibe - it feels like I'm going on vacation to a resort everytime I enter (rather than a gym). I was 2 minutes late to class because I had to drop my baby off at the Kids Club after my husband unexpectedly couldn't watch her. My friend was already in class and had even put my towel and water bottle on the spot I had saved. When I arrived, just 2 minutes later, someone else was already using my spot. My friend told Karina I was literally one minute away, but Karina told someone from the waitlist to take my spot anyway. When I arrived and asked what happened, she told me, "If you're not here by the start time, I give your spot away." I'm sorry, but is there no grace period at all? I pay $670/month for myself, my husband, and my child, and I've never experienced a gym that wouldn't allow even a few minutes of grace. I've trained at many different places, and 5 minutes is usually the minimum. What made this experience even worse was Karina's attitude. She was extremely unfriendly and unwelcoming, not only toward me but also toward my friend. Im pretty sure the class wasn't even full and there was some unregistered participants. Most of the coaches at this gym are absolutely wonderful, kind, and welcoming, and I'm there almost every day for Body Shop. I have absolutely no interest in taking another class with Karina. This was completely unacceptable and honestly left a really bad impression.

Unfortantely, I had to stop going and processed a cancellation of my membership. Some how the process never finished and I was getting charged. I was able to get help from the location manager (Lou) and she was really understanding and respectful. She was able to get the situation resolved pretty quickly and I remembered why I fell in love with the place. Our event was for approximately 100 people which included players and spectators. For some of the people, it was their first time playing pickleball and for others it was there first time playing at the Hub. All of the details were taken care of, even some that we did not even consider. So I'm updating my previous review. Sunday 8/23/2024…read more So it was 100 degrees out. My wife and I decided to go for a swim. I'm disabled in one knee, and the other is about to be disabled. There was a group of about 5 or 6 adults, one with an open container using the stairs as their personal lounge area. They had towels setup, dipping their feet in. One drunk and loud man was proudly blocking the stairs, holding on to the railing to hold himself up. At a common egress point you would think the lifeguards would have something to say to them. Even as I was shakily trying to get down the steps, they didn't move. Wife and I took up a lane and started to swim. Due to my disabilities my exertion level is low. One of the lifeguards decided to take it upon himself to ask me, "Is she OK with you being in her lane?" I told him, "Guy, that's my wife, wtf?" It's not like my wife went up and complained to him, but he decided to discriminate against my disability since I wasn't doing Olympic level swimming. My wife left and I was gently doing backstrokes, there was 3 kids on the deep end, same lifeguard, "Hey can these kids jump in your lane?" Wtf dude, if I wanted kids in my swimming area, I'd swim outside of a lane, not wanting to be a curmudgeon I agreed. I went to the other side of the pool to leave. As I was leaving the pool the party of 6 were still there, screaming, yelling, hanging off the rail. Again, my knees are in terrible shape. I need the hand railing, and I need space. I walked around the party, went to the lifeguard, showed him my scars on my knee and asked him, "Aren't you going to do anything about them?" He wouldn't. It's really annoying when you have visible surgical scars, visible ambulatory issues, and a lifeguard is treating you like dirt. Everyone pays fees here, but not everyone gets treated equally. That was my rub. 8/24/2026 Monday Wife and I decide to go back. There was kids everywhere, and I didn't want to put up with more lifeguard discrimination, so I went to a quiet part of the square common area. I was floating around, backstrokes, when some kid jumped in a foot away from my head. I straightened up and gave them a dirty look. So I moved over to another part of the square area where there was no kids. Started relaxing again, floating on my back. 2 kids came up and started splashing next to me, getting water in my face. I told them to go splash somewhere else. I decided to go sit in the sauna for a while. At that point I counted about 10 kids in the pool, 4 parents sitting poolside, faces buried in screens. By the time I got out of the sauna there was about 20 kids between the hottub and pool. As my wife and I walked out, I looked left at the loungers... A few more parents. Every single parent not looking at their kids, 100% focused on the screen in front of their face. I'm usually very patient of kids, but when they're unsupervised and running wild it ruins my time. How would the lifeguards or parents react if I decided to invade the kids space the way they did mine? Splashing them in the face? Let me wrap this up with a suggestion. Make the triangle area where the chair lift is adult only. That leaves plenty of other areas for kids to be kids without disturbing adults, and gives disabled adults like me a place to peacefully get their exercise in.

I like this gym, it's a bit more like a club than purely a gym, but I don't really use the club…read morefacilities so the gym part is what I'm reviewing here. No tennis, no pool, no snack bar. Anyway, there are three key things for me when it comes to a gym. First is cleanliness, second is shower facilities, third is equipment. AVAC is a relatively small gym and I tend to go at off hours. This means not many people, so thankfully it's very clean inside. If you think about a 24 Hour Fitness or similar, they have hundreds of people constantly working out, there's no way to uphold hygiene standards. AVAC, despite being small, has frequent cleanings happening, which is nice. The showers at AVAC are... okay. On the plus side, they provide towels, which is a dealbreaker for me. Who wants to bring their own towel to a gym? So that's a big convenience factor. The towels have been bleached and washed to the point they are marginally more absorbent than copy paper and quite rough, but I guess a towel is a towel. The showers themselves are workable but not ideal. Communal in nature, which I personally find awkward, but going at off hours at least allows me to have them to myself or only 1-2 others at most. If it was packed I'd probably wait, it's just too weird. The shampoo and body wash are not very high quality, kind of reminds me of what you'd get at a cheap motel. But again, at least it's there. I also don't want to cart my own soap around. For the gym's size, the equipment variety and quantity is good. I've never not been able to get a treadmill, I've always been able to get the free weights I want, and there are usually benches available. The only thing in short supplies are squat racks, of which there are two, and space for deadlifts, which is basically also two. I would say the gym's clientele leans towards... not people doing those types of exercise. So I haven't typically had to wait, but again I also don't go at peak hours. There are also tons of machines, if you're the type of person who thinks isolation exercises are good. Better than nothing I suppose, but that's just me. AVAC offers a lot of free classes, of which I've taken none. They also have a snack bar, which I've never used. There's also a pool (not the swim school pool which is like 2.5' high) and a kiddie pool outside, neither of which I've been in. And there are tennis courts and pickleball and some outdoor fitness area, which, you guessed it, I have never been to. I wouldn't say AVAC is a destination gym the way Bay Clubs are, but if you're closeby it's probably the best one around. They also have plenty of parking in back in two lots.

My daughter has been part of the LGU competitive program for several years now and I can confidently say it stands out as a truly inclusive and development-focused environment for players of all backgrounds. From day one, the program has demonstrated a commitment to equity, respect, and opportunity for every participant, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or socioeconomic background. Coaches and staff foster a culture where diversity is celebrated, and each player is valued not just for their skill, but for who they are. Our teams consistently were (and are) comprised of individuals of all colors and ethnicities and they have been celebrated and cultivated as the best, top players on our team. I've always felt the focus has been on finding the most talented girls with the best skill set for the team. LGU has created a close knit family environment and is working toward making the club a stronger and more desirable destination. I am excited about the move to ECNL and I have universally felt the goal is to grow the club and make it better without regard for race. Staff has also always treated us with respect and attention to strengthening player's skills looking toward supporting their long term goals. I have never witnessed dismissive behavior from club staff directed at certain ethnic groups. I don't know anyone on our team that has felt otherwise and I love their community.

When Mandala started in 2022 and noted that they would have Coach Jeff Alzina as part of their coaching staff, we were thrilled. My daughters have both worked with Coach Alzina and find him to be an amazing coach and extremely inspirational. All the coaches at Mandala are phenomenal and really understand the fundamentals of beach volleyball and have lots of experience with the sport. My daughters have learned a lot from Coach Alzina and all the Mandala coaches. The coaches will also coach you at beach tournaments, giving you great advice during the tournaments, which has helped my girls succeed and win at tournaments. Mandala offers a friendly and welcoming environment and my daughters are so happy to be a part of it.
