For a local Mahjong tournament, we checked into Margaritaville Beach Hotel Jacksonville Beach and fully committed to the no agenda, beach state of mind. The Ocean Suite was exactly what this staycation needed. A king bedroom, separate little living room, spacious galley-style bathroom, and--most importantly--a balcony with front-row seats to some seriously gorgeous ocean views. I spent plenty of time out there watching the sunrises, sunsets, and basically convincing myself I was much farther from home than I actually was. Beach day? Covered. Literally. Forgot your chair or umbrella? Margaritaville has you covered with beach gear, plus a small pool if you need a break from the sand. The only party foul was in the bathroom. The cute whale-tail fixtures were very on-brand, but ours had a little leak and were surprisingly difficult to turn off. And the water pressure? Let's just say it wasn't exactly bringing the big wave energy. For fueling the Mahjong marathon, LandShark Grill was an easy grab-and-go option, and the coffee bar was perfect for getting caffeinated before the tiles started flying. The day before the wedding he was setting up tables and refused to let us decorate in advanced while he was there setting up stating he needed to be compensated for his time (he already had to be there) he was drinking our liquor at our open bar and kept hitting on our bartender (who told us he made her uncomfortable)even though he had a wedding ring on. Advised me that we needed to pay extra money to use their sound/lighting equipment and out of 100+ weddings only one used the Their own equipment and lost the ability to play sound. Our DJ had all his own equipment and preferred to use his. He advised us against it citing their equipment was pre wired and was the only equipment that works (trying to charge us extra to use) I declined and our DJ had no issue whatsoever. Lucas is greedy and money hungry as he is the only one who sets up and cleans up the events. He acted like he had a team of people but no it's just him and you must pay him more money if you need the venue longer than 8 hours. It was extremely inconsiderate of Lucas to not allow us to drop off our decor the night before while he was setting up tables. We didn't ask him to help us unload anything just showed up asking to drop off decor and was told I would have to compensate him for his time there even though he was already there. He's nice up front until he gets your money and then changes.

He made a HUGE paella which fed 60 very happy guests with a great portion. The week before, they called me to confirm and Juan, the owner, let me know that he would be the chef the day of our event. I warned him that my mother is a very picky woman that's from Spain and that he would have his work cut out for him to impress her. He said he would be up for that challenge as he's from Valencia and has been making paella all of his life. Fast forward to the wedding, when we arrive at the reception space and are greeted by the most amazing smell of paella being cooked. The guests were in awe as they watched the chef finish making his masterpiece before their eyes. I felt bad for the guy as the before mentioned picky Spanish woman had arrived and was standing over his shoulder waiting for her chance! Moment of truth comes and the matriarch of our family tries the paella. Never before have I seen this woman finish her entire meal!! She was so impressed! Phew!!
