Papardelle ragu
Tracey F.

Was out looking for a decent place for Italian food and Paganini came up on my search. I would highly suggest making reservations here, as it didn't seem like there was a lot of availability for walk-ins. This was a great place for some traditional Italian, something I did not expect to find in Stockholm. We were greeted warmly and given some great recommendations on the menu. We went a bit whole hog here and had caprese and arancini for appetizers, different entrées, and Panna cotta for dessert. I couldn't help myself and also got an after-dinner cocktail. Everything was just fantastic. Food was delicious, service was friendly and warm, and was just a nice evening out.

Cute family run restaurant in Gamla Stan. Server was so funny! he knew who Sleepy Joe was! Ordered Arancini and risotto- delicious! Ravioli with truffle was rich and the sauce was divine! Fettuccini was incredibly rich. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Interior of Ristorante Paganini, Gamla Stan.

Ristorante Paganini is an outstanding restaurant for a very good Italian meal. The host and servers were very friendly and helpful in accommodating our likes and dislikes. My husband had lasagne and I had a ragu beef flat noodle dish. Both were superb! Bread and salads are included, as well as post-meal Swedish coffee and apple pie. There are many other choices on the menu, including a lovely sounding pasta de mare and risotto, as well as starters and desserts. If you're in Gamla Stan and looking for a great restaurant, you've found it!

Fried artichokes - delicious! Fettuccini Paganini - yummy! Spaghetti Bolognese - so tasty! Romeo did some magic to get us a table even without reservations as the place was packed. So, tip - best to make a reservation. Wonderful and quick service with Brandon and Ellen - both so attentive and friendly, wanting all to be right for us. The tiramisu - save room. You don't want to miss it. Great people watching as people strolled by on a bustling Friday evening. Red checkered tablecloths, real candlelight. We had such a wonderful dinner at Paganini!!

Risotto al fungi

Fantastic place. Went here on a whim for lunch after googling for good Italian in Gamla Stan, and it was exactly as everyone else said! Service was great, the waiter wasn't pushy or insistent on us ordering more wine, and his recommendation for something to pair with our meal was spot on. Looking over the counter, they seemed to have a great selection of alcohol, and even thought we're more familiar with French wines and not Italian, the waiter was kind enough to recommend a good pairing without being judgmental. My wife had the carbonara while I had the risotto Al fungi, both of which were delicious. The saltiness of the meat in the carbonara was fantastic, and the risotto had a really rich flavor that I felt like I could eat forever thanks to all that decadent cheese! We were sorely disappointed that we were too full for dessert, so we'll definitely have to be back. It was a warm day, but the fresh air coming in through the massive window was fantastic, and it didn't feel stuffy or weird like some of the other restaurants in Gamla Stan. The prices weren't bad either, especially for a touristy area in Stockholm. Overall, an absolute 10/10!

Ragu

We ate here twice on our visit and were very happy with our food. The first time we did take away and eventhough the food was cold and not at the right temperature back at our hotel, it was still delicious. It was so good we wanted to visit again a couple days later and eat in. We loved the ragu and the garlic bread that came at the beginning of the meal. We also tried the two types of pizzettes and risotto and arancini. Overall, everything was delicious and services was attentive and very friendly.

Seafood pasta with gf penne

We were in Gamla Stan and looking for some snackas while checking out the adorable streets and shops. The menu in the window caught our attention and after comparing to several other places nearby, we decided we couldn't resist. We popped in during a very busy lunch hour and were greeted as soon as we arrived and they managed to find us a picture perfect table right next to the window. The restaurant is small but cozy with adorable red and white tablecloths and beautiful ornate ceilings. Our server was friendly, welcoming, and best of all..knowledgeable about gluten free options. We started with the salad bar. I did have limited options but was still able to enjoy a nice salad with olive oil and balsamic as a dressing. They had gf pasta and I was excited to indulge. I ordered the seafood pasta with gf penne. The seafood was nice but the pasta was a little overcooked and fell apart. The husband is absolutely a schnitzel fiend. When he saw that they were offering it on the menu, there was really no question as to where we were going to eat. He very much enjoyed it and said it was well prepared with a nice outer crisp. He also enjoyed the side of parmesan potatoes as well. The overall lunch experience was good and we really enjoyed getting to watch the bustling Gamla Stan cobblestone streets. Price is competitive for the area and any place that can satisfy the husband's schnitzel craving is a-okay in my book!

Arancini

Personable staff, incredible authentic Italian food. We ordered four different entrees: Ragu was the stand out. Arancini and tiramisu were both amazing as well

Shrimp. Kind of hard to eat. Not date food!!

I decided to go here for lunch based on my Yelp search. We came in a little before they opened and…read moresat outside. There were two other families waiting already. Once they were open, it took a long time between us being given menus to finally getting our food- 50 minutes. They should've given us our side while we were waiting for the board. We ordered a side of salami and Swedish cheese and the hairy pig board. I enjoyed the side, but the board not so much. The board consisted of wild boar sausage with broche bun, wild boar taco, peppercorn fries, and wild boar lasagna. The board was quite heavy and salty. I didn't have enough stomach space to even try the taco. I did enjoy the fries, but it's not enough for me to want to return.

This place is tucked below street level and is very intimate and downright cozy with its low beam wood ceiling, wood tables in every cranny it can fit to accommodate guests, and a tiny little bar. You can find this place outside by the wooden sign with the boar on it, then simply peer down into the low window and if you see a hairy pig nomming on a sausage, congratulations! You're in the right place. We stopped in not long before closing time and that was probably the only reason we were able to get a much coveted table. The barkeep was nice and let us put in a quick order while also getting us drinks. Unfortunately for me, there were not very many gluten free tapa options on the menu, but there were a few naturally gf. The salami and sausages were thought to have gluten so I went with the smoked shell on shrimp, a cheese dip, and some salad with olives. I wasn't crazy about the smoked shrimp but the olives and cheese were good. The husband enjoyed a sausage in bun which he said was great. Overall we liked the vibe and I think if you can eat the locally sourced meats like my husband it's probably a pretty solid place. If you're gf or allergy you'll probably still be hungry at the end of the meal like I was.

I had to come to Stockholm for work and I have gone to several restaurants during my stay. Among the restaurants, there were a couple of Italian restaurants. Why Italian, because my done lives Italian. On our last night while walking the town, we noticed Sally's. The ambiance was quaint and lovely. A gentleman, Mark or Market greeted us. Being difficult customers we tried several wines to finally settled on one. But, Mark had no problem with it. Finally we had a pizza to start with. Please let it be known that one of my nine restaurants served pizza. This pizza was better than mine. The chicken pesto was to die for and the chicken Cesar and chicken added to pasta with red sauce were out of this world. We just came to Sweden from Rome, Italy. Thus restaurant was better than any in Italy snd the best Italian food I have ever had. Beverly Hills should bow to Sally's.

Across my travels, I've regularly been impressed with Vapiano across Europe especially in Germany…read moreand the Netherlands, and I hoped it could continue today with my trip to Stockholm however their branch located next to Gamla Stan metro station. The menu like most of Europe has gluten-free pizza and pasta and a better selection of risotto - sadly the Tonno which has been my favourite pizza at Vapiano for a while now has been discontinued as they try to promote shrimp/scampi over tuna with various new pizza. pasta and risotto dishes. Inside, the store seemed pretty nice, clean and was pretty much a typical Vapiano - the staff spoke basic English, communicating wasn't difficult but being in a foreign country this is typical. I ordered the scampi risotto - For 148 SEK which is already pretty pricey, the portion size was ridiculous, unlike most risottos I've had from Vapiano from the past, this didn't fill the bowl and looked a little messy. The dish from appearance to taste just seemed lazy, the spring onions had been thrown on top cold (perhaps they forgot), meanwhile the tomato sauce the risotto was in had no positive impact on the dish, with the rice and carrots really hard - the same could even be said about the shrimp which I presume they used instead of traditional scampi - another big letdown. After complaining - they knocked the dish off my bill but still made me pay for my drink, considering I probably had one or two mouthfuls of my iced tea by the time I sent my food back and I'd have to go into another restauraunt and buy another drink, I don't feel still paying full price for my drink is right - obviously it's a good iced tea I'm willing to pay for it but I'd have much rather them waived by bill as a whole than gave me a voucher for a coffee next time I come in - which is around about the same price anyway so makes no sense, especially considering I have no intention to return to any branch of Vapiano in Sweden after two different bad experiences today. I was really looking forward to checking out Vapiano again - my expectations were not only far from met but my expectations were shattered which was a real shame. 1*

Vapiano is a chain, which means that this location really shouldn't be that unique. And yet it has somehow become iconic for me. It has carved out a niche. It's a landmark - quite literally. I frequently meet friends "by Vapiano", even if that's not where we are eating. Of course, we eat quite a lot at Vapiano, too! On a chill autumn evening there's nothing like strolling down Götgatan in the sunset, crossing the bridge to Gamla Stan, and ordering three freshly-made pizzas to share. Though I usually opt for the pasta. There are so many options! You can so simple and classic, with to-die-for pesto or simple tomato sauce, or something exotic and new like chicken pasta with ginger, mint, and chili...mmm! I've never been disappointed here. The food is made right in front of you, and you can choose your shape of pasta and everything. Even though it's always pretty crowded, there's lots of seating so I've never had trouble finding a place. There's not too much interaction with the staff but they have always seemed friendly enough. I've gone to Vapiano for birthdays, for casual lunches, and for spontaneous dinners. It's not super fancy, but it's much better than fast food - it's good for everything! If you want tasty fresh Italian food that won't break the bank, and a place where you can carry on a conversation with friends at normal speaking levels as you breath in delicious herby-air, this is it.
