He had me numbed up to work on my tooth & DOES NOT even fill the tooth right behind it number 2 when I had a big black cavity on the very bottom of it. He's unprofessional & does not have his mind on his work but instead he was talking to his assistant about things he should not be talking about & while working on my tooth. His assistant lied & was just as bad as he was. He was to do work on my daughters teeth & there was no way that I would allow him to work on her teeth after what I had encountered. I then called to get a copy of my x-rays a few weeks later. they sent me x-rays that looks like a 1st grader drew them on a piece of paper. I waited 30 minutes before being seen which she apologized for and gave me a $5 gift card to Starbucks which is nice (but speaks to the high cost of operating this place). She seemed to listen and did a good job cleaning my teeth. 2 stars is for her. My dentist smelled of private equity and a complete disinterest in people he doesn't relate to. He recommended up-charged toothpaste, and up-charged filling material after explaining basic dental hygiene before asking about my existing habits. Then gave a treatment plan with high cost and high urgency. I received a second opinion from a lower-overhead dentist who had practical equipment and no comfort menu or drinks to speak of, but the same service was offered at a much more affordable price and much of what was itemized by Holladay was included in the overall cost from a well-regarded dentist in the area. My personal cost-incurred was around 1/4 of what Holladay quoted. He knew he could have come in at 7/8 of Holladay's cost and would have won my business but he charged for what I needed and committed to monitoring the rest as they were not of immediate importance. If you drive a Range Rover, require luxury in everything you do, and enjoy lighting money on fire, I'd recommend Holladay. If you drive a Toyota, require practical, affordable dental care from someone who takes pride in providing to the majority of the population without the frills, I'd look elsewhere.

Basically I picked Dr. Suekawa because his office is near my house and they're listed on my…read moreinsurance as a network provider. While this certainly could have turned out badly, seeing as I had nothing to go on, I am very pleased with Dr. Suekawa and his staff. I was feeling trepidacious about going as I had not been to the dentist in ages and was quite embarrassed about that fact (and the longer I waited the more embarrassed I became so the less I wanted to go...). It's quite a ridiculous situation to find yourself in but from looking online it seems that it's not all that uncommon. Anyways, their office is somewhat small (it's a suite in an office building) but it's very pleasant and clean and it is, after all, only for one dentist so it's the perfect size I'm sure. Also, there is a VERY nice selection of current magazines which sounds silly to mention but I always hate finding 5 year-old magazines in an office when you've forgotten something to read. I forget the hygienists name but she's very nice and friendly and certainly seems to know what she's doing. Dr. Suekawa is also friendly and quite gentle. All three of my visits so far have been very positive and I believe that Dr. Suekawa is a very good dentist since he managed to clean up my mouth. If he can do that I'm sure that the usual 6-month checkup is a piece of cake! I did have to have a couple of cavities done (one was a redo of a very old cavity) and while I can't say I enjoyed it (who would?) I AM glad to have it done and Dr. Suekawa did a great job with those as well. Most importantly, no-one made me feel like an idiot over the fact that it had been so long since I'd seen a dentist - something I really appreciate as I already felt like an idiot on my own. Dr DeMille may do good work but, the office staff and billing is HORRIBLE!…read more They do not honor their own quotes and charge a lot more if you try to use insurance. After paying off the balance, they will send additional bills in the mail adding extra fees which were never discussed or included in the original quotes they have their patients sign before starting any work. When dental insurance pays more than the estimate, they won't return the extra money they collected or even apply it to future work. Even taking in the insurance EOBs (showing the insurance paid hundreds more then their estimate), they keep the extra money. Also, if THEY cancel your appt within 48 hours before the appt time, THEY CHARGE THE PATIENT a cancellation fee. Very dishonest way to conduct business.

Despite having active Delta Dental coverage, I was charged $39 out-of-pocket for a regional block anesthesia because, according to the office, my insurance "denied it." After personally contacting Delta Dental, they confirmed the charge should not have been applied and even contacted the dental office on my behalf. This indicates a troubling pattern of unbundling services in a way that bypasses insurance coverage. Additionally, they will try to get you to use "better quality materials" that is not covered by insurance--something not clearly explained upfront unless you ask them and to remove it they add it on and only remove if you read the paper and ask them about it (e.g Nano-Hybrid Composite). When I questioned the charges, the office threatened to send the unpaid balance to collections, citing "Utah law" as the reason patients are responsible for all uncovered portions and said they could work a "payment plan" as to balm their charge as if they are helping you instead of correcting the error. This practice also uses high-end x-ray machines and frequently performs excessive imaging, which appears more designed to increase billing than improve patient care. These unnecessary x-rays result in inflated costs to the insurance. In total, I paid $209 out-of-pocket for a routine cleaning and the removal of a single wisdom tooth (that's with having Delta Dental insurance coverage )--despite Delta Dental confirming my total out-of-pocket cost for everything should have been only $170 (So, I basically paid $39 extra (reg. block anesthesia | something I should have not been charged for - unbundling). This discrepancy raises concerns about whether this is a case of unethical billing practices or a lack of proper understanding of insurance protocols. I lean more towards unethical billing practices because this Dental Office has done it to other folks as-well, I understand mistakes, but it's happened what seems like a lot to other folks as well based on the low-star reviews, now me included. Based on my experience with billing here--and similar reports from other patients--I recommend seeking care from a dental provider that prioritizes transparent billing, ethical practices, and patient trust.

Did not take a history. I don't think he even read my chart or any of the paperwork I filled out prior. Did not give information regarding future care, or what I should be doing for myself. I could hear him berating other patients and staff. As a type 1 diabetic I already brace for medical professionals to be misinformed and judgemental when I step into their office, and I was still so incredibly floored by how poor his bedside manner was. Even as a regular human being this man was incredibly unkind. Dentistry is already one of the most expensive and daunting forms of medical care, especially in America. There is a huge power dynamic and at no point did I feel comforted or relieved that this man was caring for me. It was also incredibly expensive and seemed very shady. For being someone who has chosen to be a carer for people in vulnerable situations it truly seems that he takes pride in creating even more barriers for patients. The way I see it, they must have trusted him to do what was needed and then didn't want to pay for the work that had been done. He's honest, prices are fair, and he won't try to sell you a mouthfull of dentistry like most other dentists. He's extremely competent, diligent and caring. His injections are painless. It's all in the technique!!! He explains all you need to know, maybe more than you need to know, but I find that comforting to understand how much thought he puts into what he does and why he's doing it. Very few dentists care that much or take the time. Just because a dentist graduates dental school and passes the board exam doesn't mean he or she is all that good. She then told me there was a breakdown in communication as my daughter had been making her own appointments and bringing herself. Well, the breakdown in communication falls on Dr Gatrell and his staff. They should have contacted me to discuss what they were wanting to do and if it was okay. Again, informed consent. Instead, when she contacted me to schedule the appointment she said, "I need to schedule the 3 of you for a cleaning." How was I suppose to glean from that that only my son and I were getting the cleaning covered by insurance and my daughter was getting a $100 retainer placed? My last dentist always pretended he "knew" me but couldn't remember details about my life. Dr. Smith doesn't pretend to be my friend, which is refreshing, but he is extremely friendLY and we have good conversations. The atmosphere: kind of feels like a spa. The care I've received: excellent. No complaints whatsoever. I love that they have different flavors of tooth polish, too.
