They had a number of antique trunks and tool boxes from the 1800s, and their prices were good. They also had a lot of ornate picture frames and furniture, but I wasn't looking for that. Self-categorizing as "vintage accessories, wonderful gifts & cool junk", The Cottage appeals to the Romantic Designer in all of us: ceramic rabbits peer penchantly into hand-mirrors; antique billiard balls lay in a bell jar like weighty fruits; teacups are stacked high, glittering as stately as an Italian tower. Simply put, the attention to detail is remarkable. If that weren't enough, in admiring the handiwork one languid mountain morning, I had the opportunity to speak to one of the two owners of The Cottage very nicely about Dayton and the Valley, who remembered me on later visits to the store. The shop has several different rooms to explore with an over abundance of things to look at . The owner was friendly and kind to answer my questions . She has recently moved into her new spot. Another store owner told me she may be in the process of opening a Tea Room . I hope she is successful in her endeavors . That's one thing this sweet town is missing.

Imagine with me; a middle aged individual, having grown up primarily in the Deep South (with a…read moreardent disdain for the heat), walking the streets of the 'Burg and realizing "it's a tad cold out on these streets." Now imagine that same individual, en route to a known spot for excellent coffee (locally roasted, pour over method), encountering a store front with "Resale & Trade" under its name and clothes hanging on racks. Coincidence? Luck? Oh but wait, the story isn't over just yet. There I am (surprise, I was the individual) walking and scanning the racks in search of anything long sleeve, a good price, and looks good (listen, cold or not I have standards). I come across this grey jacket from Bananna Republic that is made from sweatshirt material. Aka, very comfortable and machine washable. And $20! Needless to say I asked the team member if they could remove the tag upon purchasing and wore it out the door. My first encounter with Dart was one for the books. I am confident I will be revisiting soon!
