An injury left me with 3 bulging cervical discs, 2 of which were also herniated. I suffered daily excruciating pain for 3 years. This particular technique is exactly what I was looking for. It actually has an end ...unlike chiropractors which I find I just had to keep going constantly for temporary results. I've seen Raj off and on for about 7 years now for various issues. In that same amount of time, I've seen physical therapists for various issues but the pattern that has emerged is that I'd still have weird or complex issues arise, even during their treatment. I might feel good, or think that I'm ok, but only the superficial muscles were being treated thus allowing deeper issues to occur and fester - especially if they're being fed by emotional triggers. The bigger problem with deeper issues is, to the untrained eye, they may look like something they very much aren't so you can to toe the line of a misdiagnosis that is nothing more than deeper muscular issues/referred pain from trigger points. One 90 minute session with Raj has given me about 90% -100% relief from pain form a knee injury I'd been struggling with for about 8 weeks. I look forward to a second session which I'm confident will heal up the residual twinges. The method involves breathing into relaxation to get your muscles/ body in an absolute almost tense free state as he locates the pain area with his fingers while constantly getting feedback to identify the tender spots - then use relaxing breath while he gently and very lightly massages the micro area till the sensation dissipates. I want to first say that Raj is a VERY nice guy and is very passionate about what he does. I wanted to wait a while before leaving a review to have a more neutral emotional charge so that this can hopefully help folks who are in a situation like mine and are looking for treatment options. I went about a month ago due to some pain i had been having in my neck and traps for a few months that had gotten to the point where it was affecting my sleep and work. I had done physical therapy, acupuncture and chiropractor sessions and it had helped some but was not moving the needle as much as I was looking for. Before coming to see Raj we spoke on the phone for about 30 minutes where he talked about his process and listened to me about my condition and journey thus far. He felt very confident he could help so I went in that same day for a treatment. Raj's process is that he aims to teach people how to maintain and treat themselves as well as working on them. I loved the idea of that approach. When iIwent in Raj was very warm and welcoming. It is important to note that he is self taught (he is totally transparent about this). His methods are a blend of things he has taught himself and felt worked well over time. He worked on me for about half the time i was there and it is indeed painless as advertised. As he was working he was affirming that i was responding well (i couldn't feel relief yet) and that i should feel much better after this treatment but we might need a few more. He is where the 2 stars comes in... and I want to be clear this is just for me and my experience and others might have a totally different perspective. The cost of the service is quite high compared to similar services and of course he doesn't take insurance (he is not state certified to my knowledge so that would be impossible with the insurance companies). It is 250 cash each session. All of this was fine by me given I had felt some significant relief after the session. Unfortunately i felt almost completely unchanged. I want to note i didn't have a acute injury or anything... i had just been sleeping wrong and sitting at a computer and this was a cumulative thing. I messaged Raj a few days later and said I maybe felt 10% better. He responded by saying that was actually good, which was in contrast to what he had told me to expect before and after the treatment. Again, all of this would be fine, except the price was just too high for me to take a flyer that it would maybe improve 10% or more each time. I just couldn't make that kind of financial commitment without having had some better results. Especially when I was getting more relief per session from PT or other treatments for around half the cost. I asked if we could do a bundle at a lower price but he didn't seem open to that. So I didn't go back. I hope this gives everyone a honest perspective of my experience. It has nothing to do with Raj's kindness, professionalism, and passion for what he does. I originally went to Raj for treatment for whiplash related migraines. I had previously tried going to a chiropractor, a masseuse, and stretching but to no avail. I have been wanting to review Raj for quite a while, as a way of helping others to hopefully find him, because I know what it's like to be living with pain, and if your pain is muscle-related, then I am confident that Raj can help you. I recently had my one year anniversary of my back injury. Last December, I was foolish, and did not appreciate the fact that I am not in my 20s or even 30s anymore, and I worked hours and hours doing hard manual labor in my garden all weekend long- loads of hunching, stooping, chopping, etc. I also had a very hard exercise regimen at the time- training for a hike across England. Well, I woke in the night with back spasms, which seemed to get better over the next week as one would expect, but then, probably because I was exercising too much too soon, and not resting enough, I aggravated the injury and I suddenly was not getting better, but worse. Way worse. My back hurt too much for me to sleep through the night. I couldn't sit comfortably, not even for one hour and I have a desk job at work. Something about the bucket seats in my car really killed me, and I have a commute like everyone else in LA. I have a movie-related job, and I couldn't sit and watch a movie all the way through. My doctor was perplexed. I love her, but like all Western doctors, she really doesn't know how to treat muscles. Think about it- we have specialists in bones, various organs, skin, but not muscles? She told me to take lots of Aleve and stretch. I followed her advice faithfully, but my God, the 30 minutes of nightly stretching only made things feel worse, and after a month, the Aleve just trashed my stomach. I was a complete mess in January and February. There was never a moment I was not aware of my back pain. I could do things like stand or walk to make the pain a little better than when I was sitting, but the chronic pain was mentally exhausting. My doctor sent me for all kinds of tests, and it was definitely a muscular problem. So, my doctor sent me to Physical Therapy. They gave me a survey when I first showed up. A 100% would be someone without pain. I scored a 34%. I spent 3 weeks going 2x a week, and doing nightly stretches for about 30 minutes. My last day there, they gave me the survey again. I rated a 32%. Knowing what I know now, I understand that the stretches I was doing for PT, and my doctor's "strengthen and stretch" advice, were only continuing to aggravate the situation. Think about it- a thick, ropey muscle that has tightened up needs to be softened before it can be stretched. It needs to be loosened and gently coaxed into being able to stretch again. You cannot just simply force the stretch. It's pretty bad when a PT company admit they can't help you, but that's what happened to me. So, having gone through all my options with my insurance and doctor, in desperation I just started googling muscle and back pain, and somehow stumbled onto the concept of trigger point therapy and ended up here, on Yelp, reading about Raj. I filled out the detailed symptom report on his website and he called me very quickly. I really appreciated that. He said that he understood that people contacting him are in pain, and need a timely response. We went over more details about my back on the phone, and I made an appointment to see him. It is hard to describe what trigger point is like, because on the one hand it seems a bit magical. Your feedback and symptom reports are very important to helping Raj pinpoint your problem areas, but then, he is able to feel the problems in your muscles and focus in on where the trigger point has developed. It is your own feedback to him that helps him locate things precisely, but then it just feels like some pressure on that point for oh, about 20 seconds or so. The pressure is not painful. It's a minor discomfort. He would check in with me and I usually would give it a "1" or a "2", but even just that low level of pressure on the trigger points in your muscles is enough to make them start to loosen, and start to get your muscles back to a healthy state. I went to Raj once a week for 7 weeks, feeling a marked improvement each time, and then I went on a 5-week European vacation. I was able to completely enjoy my vacation, and to walk an average of 8 miles a day. The days I had long flights which I had feared, I was able to handle without great discomfort. My back was a bit stiff afterward, but Raj had provided me with great tips for how to treat myself, as well as gentle stretches, and tips for how to walk and stand to put the least pressure on my back. I appreciate how he really wants you to get better and he expects you to put in the work on your end- doing your stretches and filling out your symptom reports before appointments so he can really zero in on your issues and how you're progressing. I am 100% sure that I am pain-free today because of Raj, and I am hoping that if you are in so much pain that you actually read this far, that you give him a call. read more

Amazing! Remarkable! Life-changing! When I read those words in others' reviews I get this little nagging feeling like something fishy is going on and I get a bit skeptical. So in writing this review I'll try and stick to the facts, though I keep wanting to all-cap those words and keep fishing around for more adjectives. See, I've had back issues since my early 20s. For years I went to an applied kinesiologist who was able to release the knots, but only after painful electrical stimulation and painful deep-tissue massage. But the problems kept coming back. Then I discovered chiropractors. Some were able to fix the problem. But it kept coming back. I went to acupuncturists, to a Japanese doctor who put these freaky cups on me. But that didn't help. I've popped more Advil than my liver wanted me to because sometimes it helped. Massage therapists made it worse, usually. Maybe one time a guy made it better via massage, but only for a day or so. It kept coming back. Nothing I've done for 20+ years has stuck. Finding Raj has been LIFE-SAVING (had to do all-caps!). Why? Because for 20+ years I found temporary relief. If I ever did any kind of fast movement or if I exercised, the pain came back. I found Raj about two months ago and since then the intensity of my workouts has increased, I've traveled with a backpack and I've purposely not been careful with my back just to test it. I came into see Raj Nydoo when I was experiencing upper back pain, shoulder, forearm, hand and finger pain. Raj takes a holistic approach with his patients, which contrasts from past physical therapists, acupuncturists and chiropractors that I've seen, who have helped me minimally. Specifically in the sessions, Raj spent significant time prior to the direct trigger point treatment to talk with me about sitting and standing in a balanced way-- so that I'm not over working any muscles. He even challenged some conventional ergonomic advice in regards to sitting at a computer toward achieving better posture. His explanation made a lot of sense. He also spent a lot of time guiding me through stretches under the philosophy of "less is more"--don't overdo the intensity nor duration. I had particular trouble with my left pinky finger, as it was both in pain and weak. During one treatment, Raj hit a trigger point near my back, and he asked me to move my left pinky finger. Much strength had come back to my left pinky finger! In fact, at times, my left pinky finger felt that it was the strongest of my fingers. Unfortunately, we hit a wall with having the pain in my left pinky go completely away (though my pinky finger remained strong). I now think there are mind/emotional reasons why the pain didn't go away (i.e. all my pain may not be caused by structural/physical issues in the first place). When I explained that I was exploring the idea that some of my pain may be coming from my mind choosing to manifest repressed emotions as as finger pain, Raj agreed that it was a possibility; I wasn't dismissed. I had been researching many therapies to help with my chronic wrist and elbow tendonitis, and gone to a few very discouraging appointments when I finally stumbled upon trigger point. I was referred to Raj through a friend-of-a-friend who had great results with his treatments. I have suffered from a herniated disc for over 10 years. It ended my career as a chef and limits my daily activities. Over the last decade, I have gone to physical therapy, chiropractors, acupuncturists, massage therapists, a spine clinic and have had many types of injections and a cervical epidural. I've been on anti-inflammatories and pain meds for years. I was told that the only option left for me was to continue with the epidurals (which involve injecting dangerous steroids into my spine-- no thanks) and that surgery was probably not an option. When I first went to see Raj I had three bulging discs in my neck and chronic pain as a result. After only a few months and a series of treatments Raj was able to loosen up my muscles enough to eliminate the pain I had had for years. I've tried many types of pain remedies over the past 7 years -- deep tissue massage, Rolfing, acupuncture, active release, chiropractors, Graston technique, Feldenkrais method, steroid injections, oral steroids, physical therapy, muscle relaxers -- but nothing really cracked through my chronic pain until I found trigger point therapy. This gentle technique is rehabilitating my muscles in a way I didn't think possible. I feared I was destined for a life of pain killers before finding trigger point. I used to have about 20 days a month where my pain was at the top of my tolerance level. Over the past few months those days are fewer and fewer and I'm hoping to get back to some of the activities I used to do before falling into a cycle of unrelenting neck and back pain. Widespread myofascial pain in my head, neck, shoulder, back, and arms led me to Raj. The cause of these pesky trigger points were likely caused by a variety of factors including extensive computer usage, emotional tension due to a toxic work environment, bad posture, and who knows what else!! The point is that I had pain that wasn't resolved by any method up to this time. After the first treatment, I was surprised to have increased energy. After all, being in pain sucks and drains your energy. I had longer periods of REM sleep which allows me to access the dream world more often. The tension in my face decreased, thereby making me look younger and more vibrant. Raj is great and it's actually painless! I have been going for about a year and have had significant improvement. I have had plantar fasciitis for over four years and some tendinitis for about a year. I tried everything, multiple physically therapists and masseuses to help with the knots and pain, tons of supplements, some experimental treatments and nothing was lasting. Raj has been a God-send. I had an automobile accident when I was 25 and that was almost 35 years ago. At the time, the physical therapist found permanent damage to the muscles in the right side of my neck which necessitated a year of physical therapy on my neck and upper back. Jump forward many years later and my neck began to exhibit both stiffness, to the point where I could barely move it from side to side. I knew that it was from the permanent damage I had received in the auto accident many years ago, and I believe it was re-aggravated. Brought my 14yr old daughter here because she was having severe headaches. She had missed 2-1/2 weeks of school, it was debilitating. She had already been to her gp, a neurologist, had a ct scan, x rays, cortisone injections, physical therapy, etc etc. All the doctors wanted to do was give her more DRUGS and send her out the door.
