The wind can change this course considerably, the greens are in great shape and fair, minus some sloping from back to front, where a putt past the hole can end up in the fairway. The traps could really use some TLC, as there's hardly any sand in some. This can be typical of public courses in the area. No GPS on the carts, so it's old school 150 and 100 yard stakes. If the price is right, you'll enjoy spending 4 hours fighting the challenges of sunflower hills.

It was remodeled in 2003 and now has Zoysia fairways which is AWESOME! Anytime you can play on Zoysia you have a better lie. You just have to be able to play the fairway ;) The greens range from small to large and the only downside is that late in the summer the greens start to get a little disease and discoloration. Most people repair their divots so you can play a good line to the hole. I would not recommend walking this course on a hot day. 7001 yards is no joke on this course. There are a lot of hills and you will be exhausted by the 12th hole. Other than that, it is a great place to play.

But it is a beautiful nature sanctuary with lots of greenery, woods, streams, water falls, and benches to enjoy the scenery. No pets are allowed since it is a nature sanctuary. There is a covered area off of one of the hikes that we went to that leads to some picnic tables. There's also several picnic tables by the parking lot. There are also bathrooms near the parking lot. The parking lot is next to the track and field belonging to the college. We really enjoyed our slow, meandering walk/hike and will definitely go back.

It feels like this is in its own little world despite being so close to the city. Be aware that the parking lot is pretty small so at peak times it may be hard to park.

I enjoyed my tacos at a well maintained shelter house lakeside with functioning restrooms and running water. Plenty of geese and other nesting birds to watch. Modern children's playground equipment and woods for exploring. Unfortunately the tower at the 55th St. entrance has had the entrance welded shut and you can no longer climb to the top of the 60' tower. A nice urban park.

A few things to know: 1. Kayaking or Paddleboarding- you must have a permit (sticker) displayed on your craft. You purchase this at the marina office - and they are closed Tuesday/ Wednesday. It's $60- season. We hear they are strict about enforcing this. The launch spot is very close to the marina office- and is amazing. The launch point is zero entry and it has a parking lot- so you don't have to drag your craft very far. It's great! We kayaked on a Saturday and only saw a couple of boats. We love the calm quiet water and the beautiful nature experience. 2. Hiking- there are over 10 miles of hiking trails around the lake. They are maintained by Urban Trail Co- and their site is where they post trail closings (they are closed after big rains). The trails are pretty hilly-and we have been using them for Colorado Backpacking training. It's perfect! Bring bug spray- and I wouldn't recommend going alone since they are very isolated in the woods. There don't seem to be clearly marked trail heads- we parked at the spillway parking lot or the shelters seem to trail entry points as well. Go get outside! Enjoy! ‍

I took my two grandkids to this park to check out the playground. The playground is large and…read moreexpansive. The kids enjoyed their time there. There were some low spots under some playground equipment, where a recent rain had made little ponds of mulch. There are public bathrooms right by the playground and a variety of benches. It is in full sun, but the day we went it was cloudy. The park itself is enormous because I drove around and it took quite some time! The positives about the park is the playground, the beautiful lake, driving through the park reminded me of driving through a deciduous forest. They have a marina where people were loading boats to take out on the lake. There was a variety of little gravel parking spaces here and there as you drove on the road. If it was somewhere near an opening to a little spot by the lake, then I would see a guy standing and fishing. During my time driving through the park, I only passed two cars. I think most people are concentrated in the play area, which was not that many people. Or they are using the marina for boating, or there is one area where you can park and I think go down and view a type of dam which I did not look at. That is the positive things about the park. I did not notice any wooden trails or trail markers, I noticed one paved path that said it was a trail and it looked like it was wide enough that biking people could use it. I think there is a lot of under utilized space in this park that could be used for better use. The positive about that being under utilized is that wild animals are probably enjoying it! I do feel that aspects of the park are unsafe. For example, there is a building right next to the play area, I don't know what it's used for but multiple windows had been broken out and then replaced with board. Then other window windows were just simply empty like they gave up. They had a large and high fence surrounding the air conditioner that led to that building so obviously people had probably stripped the air conditioner in the past for components to sell. Also, there was quite a bit of trash on the playground, which I walked around and picked up. Their trash cans are not covered. They're just open black bins with the top cut off to throw trash into. That is probably why I saw multiple ones tipped over because wild animals like raccoons are getting into them. I only saw one Park Ranger, and that was near a tree company that was dealing with a tree that was knocked over in the storm. They have a lot of side roads that we have a sign saying it's leading to a shelter for a picnic. I drove up three of them and it will take a while to get to a particular shelter and they will have a swingset and maybe one other toy, but they are very downtrodden looking. The shelters are in bad condition and very dark because the trees around them need to be trimmed. They do seem to have bathrooms by the shelters. I noticed that the hours of this park are from 6 AM to midnight, which is pretty long to stay open for a park. I feel like that leads to criminal activity. When I would drive down several of these longer roads leading to a shelter, there would be occasionally one vehicle on a little gravel parking space and just sitting in their car. If they had trails in this park, I would not feel safe by myself in hiking on them. I think the reason there is hardly anyone at this park because there's really not much to do except fish and they didn't even seem to have a lot of areas to do that unless I missed it, I think the marina seem to be the busiest area. I probably would not go back to this particular park for these reasons. I think it's a shame because it's so large and beautiful but very under utilized in the acreage about what could be on this park.

The course is a real challenge, it is long with plenty of trouble and blind-shots due to the rolling hills. The signature hole is #9 with a tee box perched on a cliff over 100 feet above the fairway... The right side of the fairway is guarded by a lake so be sure to hit it straight!

Any good business owner would reach out to the customer and see what they can do to make the situation right or improve their employees customer service efforts. Not ban someone for driving on the grass on a golf course. If I could give zero stars, I would. First time on the course and I won't be returning. The course conditions are unacceptable. The driving range balls are so old they're falling apart, and the course itself is poorly maintained -- dead grass on the greens, mud throughout, and mats being used to tee off on hole 6. The staff's behavior made the experience even worse. The women running the facility were rude and confrontational. After briefly driving 90 degrees into the rough to retrieve a ball, I apologized several times and agreed to remain on the cart path. Despite that, I was still spoken to aggressively and removed from the course. Everyone makes mistakes. There is no reason to be become unhinged and continuously yelled at after acknowledging the mistake. It then took nearly 30 minutes for them to process a refund because no one seemed to understand how to operate the point-of-sale system. Golf is supposed to be relaxing, not an exercise in dealing with power-tripping staff who have no sense of customer service. Save your time and your money -- there are far better courses nearby that actually treat people with respect.

RACIALLY PROFILED. My friend and I went here today and we were racially profiled. We came here…read morebecause it was listed on Longview Lake Parks and recreation site as a place to walk. After walking most of the trail we were abruptly stopped and told " How many times have I told you ladies you can't walk here. You can't be here unsupervised!" My friend and I were confused and shocked at the person telling, who then told us that other golfers had called to report us and that it was a hazard for us to be walking on the paved trail. Granted, there was a lady walking the same trail who had a baby in a stroller and another gentleman who was jogging on the same trail. The man then told us that we HAD to get in the golf cart and he would drive us back to our cars even though we were only a few steps from finishing the trail. During the short trip back to our cars, he asked how did we even get in and did we jump the fence. He asked was the gate even open? He then asked if we were sure that we hadn't jumped the fence? Honestly, what reason would there be to break into a public golf course that had the front gate wide open. After this interrogation session, he decided to add to the yelling by telling us, " Im amazed no one asked you guys for your numbers because golfs are weirdos." I responded with, "Oh are they?" He was quiet after and began asking where did we park again. After dropping us off he decided to remind us that we can't walk there anymore because of the so called dangers that is present (which is present to everyone on the course). My friends mom called the manager who told her the other walkers paid to be there. If that's true, then why were we not offered that or told that we could walk if we paid. Additionally, he still said it was dangerous to walk on a paved path at a golf course. If that is true, why were there walkers there that paid a fee to be on the trail? So disappointed in the level of treatment. They treated us like criminals because I am black and friend was with me.
