Keep in mind that this is an old urban course with low green fees. Given that, the course has terrific greens, in very good shape, with challenging contours and greenside bunkers. Fairways vary, but the ones that are in rough shape are being worked on. The rough is somewhat ragged. I carry extra balls - if I'm in the general area where the ball should have stopped, I drop and keep on going. The yardage looks very short on the card, but it is par 70 with lots of elevation changes that make it more difficult than may appear. I cannot comment on slow play; I usually play very early and it moves along nicely. GreatLife has a tough task - keeping the course in reasonable shape with low fees - given that challenge I think that they're doing pretty well read more

It took us just under four hours to play 12 holes. As someone that worked in golf for 3 years, I understand the challenges of tee sheet management. However, not once did a Marshall come tell any of the groups around us to pick up the pace of play. At one point, there were three groups all waiting to tee off with a fourth quickly approaching. This sort of thing is very avoidable with proper interference from staff and ensuring players are aware of course etiquette, especially considering the course is a part of the Greatlife KC family, which is a reputable company. The poor etiquette we experienced were as follows: groups waiting significantly too long to tee off, players hitting into us multiple times (and not because we were playing too slow, they just had poor etiquette), players looking for balls for a significant amount of time (im talking well over 3 minutes), and just a general lack of courtesy from all with regard to pace of play. I wouldn't come back on a weekend after this experience, though the course itself is fine and my group had no issues with it. read more

Always can count on getting that last minute tee time for the weekend. Be sure to keep that in mind though- times are typically pretty tight which can lead to a long day out on the course. The last few times there has not been a beverage cart so be sure to stock up before teeing off and restock at the turn. I have played this course a few times now. The other yelp reviews I feel are a little too harsh as this is a public course. Yes a fews of the tees were a little rough but the fairway and greens were well maintained. The staff was friendly and getting/returning the carts were efficient. They should change the name of this goat ranch (apologies to goats) to Graffiti Hills. Unless you're looking to work on your "hitting off hardpan" game, this place is a hard pass. On about the third "tee" I encountered a "greenskeeper" who was moving the tee markers and making apologies for the lack of any real grass. I asked him "What is the point? You trying to preserve the baked clay and crabgrass on the front of box for next week?" I am seriously considering taking this place to small claims court to reclaim the $17.50 I paid to ride around this farce. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. I can't tell you how many times my dad his pals have played this course at least since the late 70s. The Marshall knows my dad by his name! Today, the staff showed their true colors. I have never been such bigotry at a golf course! I have heard they don't treat blacks fairly, and until today, I had to see it before I believed it. Let me start by saying I was a last-minute add-on to the tee time. As we were parked at the first hole waiting. The Marshall and the cashier pretty much chased us down. Our 3rd went in to pay and was told he couldn't play because it was reserved for two. When the Marshall addressed us, we understood, and I opted out of paying, no big deal. I'll just ride along and enjoy the weather. The cashier says, "well.there are three bags, so we can't allow you all to play." I repeated again that I wasn't going to play, but I wasn't going to walk my bag back to car either. Then we were told we had to pay for the court for the other player to play, no big deal. We were understanding, and it was okay. However, the cashier was so dead set on just seeing two golf bags, not three. In the moment, you were made to feel untrustworthy. The entire situation was handled poorly, and even though we were complying, it wasn't good enough. The Marshall tried to get us to play with another group, and they weren't really willing to have us. I just told my pop's I'll leave so that they could move on and golf. As I found the Marshall to inform him, I returned the chart he went reaching for my cap with his hand in my face, asking me what the letters meant. Feeling annoyed by him and his staffs behavior, I politely took a step back and explained. He tried to justify his actions about the situation, and I walked off. Your justification should be as loud as your confirmation. read more

Reviewing with the A Gizzle usually sparks pretty spirited conversations. For instance, Painted Hills. Besides having been the scene of one of my funniest golf incidents (I will plead the 5th), Painted Hills is a not to bad course in a not too bad part of town. I think the location couldn't be more out of reach from the typical golfers in the area. Despite it's somewhat inconvenient location, Painted Hills is very well maintained and the staff does a great job. I do think the facilities though are really beginning to show their age and could use a face lift. The greens could also use as much detail as the fairways do. read more

I have played this course For nearly 20 years and I love this course. It has its problems because their budget is less than the surrounding courses. Because of this it is a little rough. However it is a great layout reaching back to the beginnings of golf. Painted Hills has several very beautiful views . It is also ideal for Senior golfers and Lady golfers. It is a par 70 with 6 par three's, all of which have great lay outs. The greens are in great shape as are the fairways. Come play this beautiful course. Seniors you will love it! read more

Just got done playing the course. Let me preface my comments by saying I have played this course at least 200 times over the course of 30 years. Started when it was Victory Hills and private, thru and up to the early 2000's in league play. It was always well maintained thru out all those years for the most part. I had not played the course since it's renovations in the 2000's if my memory serves me right. Currently though, this is no longer a golf course. It was embarrassing to play this course. Absolutely no sand in any of the bunkers. NONE. Just mud pits with grass. Fairways were mowed and halfway decent. Rough not cut, clumpy and weeds galore. Brush debris everywhere you look. Half the ball washers missing. Tee boxes rough- did I say rough! People driving on par threes and right up to the greens. Golf carts were extremely old but at least they got us thru 18. Great Life has done such a disservice to this course. I hate saying this, but they should just bulldoze it down and build apartments or whatever they do with their properties. NO EXCUSE. read more

This place has made great improvements. They have enlarged some of the greens, which used to be pretty small. Their fairways are in great condition compared to some of the other courses. They have come out with a lot of promotions that have made this place come alive again. For example, they have 3 different types of Eagle cards. You can either purchase a card or get one for free. These Eagle cards work at two other courses in the area: Deer Creek and Royal Meadows. If you buy the Eagle Card for $129 you get a free round at each course, plus for every three hundred points you get a free round period. Other than that, you play and get 20% off your round. It really is a great deal. I have had the Eagle card for 3 years now. I still have over 600 points and have used several free rounds already. This is a par 70 course and is somewhat shorter than other courses. From the blue tees it plays 5,884 yards w/a rating and slope of 67.7/119. There are four par 5's and four par 3's. This course can be very challenging due to the tree-lined rolling fairways. Not one part of this course is on level ground. If you are a slicer, you will have a hard time playing out of the trees since there are a lot of them off of the fairway. It can be difficult trying to find your ball in the rough, and fuhgitabotit in the fall. The 10th, 12th holes can be a little challenging because you are teeing off right next to Parallel st. You would think that people would try and honk during your back swing, but I have yet to have that happen. The 12th hole is a dog-leg left. Unless you can draw the ball your best bet is to lay up. However, if you can draw you will sit in great shape. You can easily reach the green in two and be putting for Eagle. There is a house that sits next to the 8th and 16th hole. I've never seen anyone come in our out of that house though. There was a nasty pond in between those two holes, but they have cleaned it up and added fish. It looks really nice now. Holes 9 and 18 are around 290 and are drivable greens. I have driven them several times and have been putting for eagle. Their carts are a little old and need updating, but they get around good. Winter rates run $24 with cart and $30 on peak hours. My only gripe about this place is that they do not have a driving range. They have a little practice green and a place to chip, but that's about it. Overall, I love this little course. read more

Cheap golf for the weekend $30 with a cart but course in rough shape. Grass was long in the fairways and tee boxes hard as a rock.

Disappointed in the course conditions and the staff seemed indifferent to glaring issues. Course conditions less than ideal. Took 4 penalty strokes for lost balls in the 2nd cut which should easily be found. Also, putted in the sprinkler system going full blast on 4 greens. Never had that happen and the pro shop said "sorry but the Regional Supervisor has been on them to water the greens". Although that is a great pat excuse my bro in law and I now use to joke with one another, it is horrid customer service on top of a poor golf experience. This is one of the Great Life courses around town and it seems they run things in a way that I am not accustomed to at a regular golf course. Would not return. read more

I was at this place on 6/17/2018 and the staff was not nice at all. The course was in horrible shape. Great Life the owners have taken a good course and have ruined it. Shame on them. If somebody asks me about this course I will tell them don't play it. A waste of money. read more

I got a T time for a group of five as was told we could do that because I had a wedding party. When we got there they were adamant that we couldn't do that so made us split up. Play was terribly slow so we joined together. The pro followed us around and made us split up anyways despite the fact that we were waiting in many instances with no one behind us. This is a hidden gem of a course just outside the KC metro. It's a nicely kept course with an extremely good price. Played 18 with a cart after 2pm on a Saturday, and it cost me $26. You won't find that price anywhere in town. The only complaint I have is the tee boxes and greens and most holes were in rough shape, but there's not much the course can do about irresponsible golfers that do not fix their divots and ball marks. Most of the Par 3's are downhill, overlooking the green, which makes for a really cool view and an additional challenge. The Par 4's and 5's are short, but they still present their challenges. Overall, a fun course in KC that I would recommend to anybody, regardless of experience level. read more

This course is sad. Do not waste your money here. The bunkers have been washed out for over 3 years. They look like trench warfare bunkers from the Vietcong war. Every tee box has weeds a foot tall on them. Literally just hire a crew for $8.00 an hour and pick the weeds off the tee boxes. This course needs a couple thousand dollars worth of work to even host a high school tournament. read more

This is not a golf course. 10 faiways are being redone with zoysia strips 10 inches wide with the previous grass in between leaving a 1 inch difference in height. Impossible to take a shot or find footing. The bunkers are all washed out. The tee boxes are bare of grass. The whole course is ground under repair and is not fit for play. Took our family here for Mother's day, the food was greasy, lack taste and overall nasty. The staff seem disorganized and chef dishevel and looked overwhelm. We had 12 people for brunch @ around $30 per head. Our group of people is foodies and they DID NOT go back for seconds, that's how bad the food was. We were highly disappointed...When I got home well let say the bathroom and I was friends from the food. Don't waste your hard earn money here! read more

A golf course disaster. Awful shape, uneven and unmowed "fairways". 65% of course was either dormant or deceased. Tees were 80% sand. Greens were OK. Layout was just OK. Holes were side by side and everyone was in everyone else's "fairway"'. Play was slow and other than 150 poles (and occasional" 100 yard poles), the course was poorly marked. Not fun unless you are OK with moving your ball 5-10 yards to find a decent lie. Ugly! read more
