I am never disappointed when I go to Painters! I just wish they were open longer than the end of June. I've introduced several people to Painters and they've never been disappointed either. The plants are beautiful and I always buy too many. I always find something new I love. Today, I bought several herbs, including a Spicy Orange Thyme. It smelled so good - might be nice in a a stir-fry or an Orange Beef dish. I also bought a Calla Lily. They had half a dozen colors, but the one I couldn't resist was a bright orange-yellow and it reminded of a Torch Lily. The prices on some things are a little higher than I want to pay, but there's no question that they're grown well and look great. The Basil today was huge - a plant that I haven't been able to get to live for the last few years (bought from a different nursery.) The staff are extremely knowledgeable and always friendly and ready to help. Be sure to take a look at the giant plant they have growing in the greenhouse. Gotta go! A hidden gem in Old Fort, but brimming with aisle upon aisle of beautiful plants! We went specifically for starter herbs and veggies for our garden and were not let down. So many types of plants, it's easy to go overboard when selecting some to take home! Employees were lovingly tending to plants and available for questions while we looked. Great selection of fruit bearing trees and berry bushes as well! Also if you're in the market for succulents-this is your place, as the selection is diverse and simply stunning. Fantastic selection of plants. Very fun atmosphere with lots of extras (people selling crafts) to browse. Employees helpful until asked second question then had attitude problem because of my lack of horticulture knowledge. People rave about how cheap this place is... maybe for some small stuff... but hanging plants were on par with others prices if not more expensive. Fun for a visit once but wouldn't make a drive out of my way. read more

Friendly, knowledgeable staff, wonderful looking plants, very, very large selection. Special attention is made to point out and separate those plants that are NATIVE to NC. Pricing alone could make it worth the trip from just about wherever you may be traveling! Most people should know that you don't buy plants from the big chains anyway but; it's a tremendous bonus for me to be able to wholeheartedly support a NC business! Here's the bottom line. EVERYTHING I buy here thrives in my garden. Everything I buy elsewhere, like Lowes and Home Depot, doesn't. Painters Greenhouse sells healthy plants with established root systems at very reasonable prices. That's what I want, so the drive up here is worth it. read more

Wonderful place with a great selection. Only one thing to watch out for is the ferns. Early in the season they have really nice big ferns but those sell out quickly. Once those are gone they still charge the same $ for the smaller ones even though you can buy the same size at Lowes or a grocery store for about $4 less each. read more

I love Painters. Like most other stuff we buy it's helpful to have some knowledge of plants and local prices. But I truly love to stroll and look for those special plants or species of a particular plant that you don't see other places. I make 3-5 trips every year! Rock on!!!! read more
