I'd give less than 1 star if I could after my experience today. I've been here several times in the past and bought some wood previously. I feel like I got judged and discriminated against today by the owner Mark. First time I met him was today. I inquired about tarped wood sitting in the parking lot. Rather than helping me, he seemed more interested in removing wood that he wanted to plane and sell and I was a distraction to his newly found treasure. As we were walking to go back in the store, he basically dismissed me. "Okay, thanks for stopping by." He literally stood in front of the door. I said, "I am sorry, did you assume I was not going to purchase the wood we looked at or look at anything else?" This was very insulting... He said, "that wood is very expensive. This comment alone told me that he judged me as someone who couldn't afford what I was looking at. Bad news for you is that I can afford it and your discrimination doesn't deserve a penny from me. Owner (Mark) don't bother responding. A response from you will never convince me that you don't discriminate. BTW: This place is way overpriced! Some of the stuff looks like garbage picked up off the side of the road. read more

We bought Canarywood from some country that the owner went to. I can't remember it's beautiful. They've got very rare wood and nothing like we've ever seen. My husband was a remodeling contractor and we have done some fabulous work because his purchase. read more

I used to go to this place when I wanted to save money. you might say I'm a...scrounger. I knew going into it that what they offer would often be odd sizes, or of a lower quality than what I could get from the pros. I was totally ok with that arrangement. make it work, save a buck. I will say that it has always bothered me that he sells all of those exotic woods. If you don't know exactly where that stuff is coming from, you can bet that slave labor got it there. I think the owner has gotten greedy. I just paid the exact same price I would pay for a sheet of high quality birch ply, but for some weird stuff from indonesia. I asked what he wanted for a scuffed up rusty old sink with no brand on it. He told me he'd do me a favor and sell it for $150. I'll not waste the extra time it takes to deal with this places quirks in the future, I can get ripped off with good customer service at the normal places. read more

Could spend days on there. The staff was great; they led me to what I was looking for, helped me load it onto a cart and helped me load it into my vehicle. Anyone that's into unique and rare wood, furniture, rare building materials, etc you will love this place. read more

Scroungers Paradise is a "must visit" location if you are in the Henderson locale. It is a woodworkers dream . There is an extensive collection of exotic wood. Blanks for woodturners. And, a wide selection of odd stuff like art, tables, natural edge wood slabs , etc. it is an amazing place just to investigate the interesting objects on display. This place is amazing for hardwood flooring, live edge, and super affordable tile. There is also really weird stuff here, also, (unique??)) if one wants to use GIANT bicycle type chain in one's decor, for example. Seriously, this place has to be experienced! He has super cool old maps (1000's of them), furniture, interesting dried plant material that's sculptural, geodes...I mean, if one owns a warehouse, has access to cool stuff, why not collect and sell it? He is really nice and is willing to negotiate on just about anything. I'm renovating my house and between the owner and Jimmy who works there, they made certain I found everything I was looking for to complete my project. Tip: it is cold in there! A true hidden gem. The employees and manager here are SO SHARP on wood work and rare, sustainably harvested woods of the world. In the hour or so I spent there I learned a ton and experienced a wonderful brainstorm on ideas for my home project. I had an incredible experience and feel great about my investment. This is a great place to buy rare and unique wood products. They have live edge planks good for mantles and coffee tables. They also have various sized boards in many different types of wood for crafts products. Many of the types of wood I've never heard of from various parts of Africa and Central and South America. I love this place. Whether you want to see all the unique woods or the different artisans they showcase it's definitely worth the trip. I was in Asheville Friday and Saturday meeting friends to and getting my oldest for a girl's weekend. I have always loved working with Hardwoods (desks, shelves, tables etc). My husband also turns duck calls. Since we moved to Alabama I haven't found a source so this was my chance to stock up a bit. I came home with some rosewood (I forgot which region) and padauk for myself. IPE, African Mahogany, Canary, Redwood and Cocobolo for my husband. I definitely should have brought my trailer and gotten a few slabs, birch plywood and longer boards. I will definitely be back. read more

This is a place I use to recommend to my friends when looking for interesting salvage find but sadly it seems the atmosphere has changed I recently went in to purchase some plywood and as I was looking through the plywood trying to match the grain and look for water spots which normally his plywood has bad spots the owner came over and told us since we were moving the plywood around that he would charge us a dollar more per sheet which is ridiculous since there was no sign saying anything about it so we got our plywood stacked the sheets we moved and left and this will be the last time I return and I would tell me my friends to be careful about it in the future sad this place has a very disturbing attitude read more

This place is super weird. There's definitely some cool stuff to be found, but I really don't think it's worth dealing with the owner. Out of the ten or so items I found to purchase, he decided he wanted to keep three of them to give to his kids or something-can't remember exactly what he said because I was so baffled. He asks all sorts of awkward questions about your life and purchases and is pretty expensive for a place like that. I might go back, but probably won't. read more

You gotta go check it out - if you need REAL tongue and groove flooring - they got it (any kind of wood you could imagine and some you can't), if you need mahogany, Ipe, Hickory or even Purpleheart they got it! If you need plywood with an exotic skin they got it. If you are looking for wood for counter tops, they got it. Hell we bought Iron Gates from Egypt today - and gonna come back for the boat motor and some more rugby shirts. GREAT PRODCUTS TO SET YOUR HOME APART FROM THE BIG BOX STORES CRAP & great prices and they will take the time to guide you in your projects. You just gotta go check it out! read more

I've heard about this place and had to see it for myself. If you're building/remodeling your home on a budget, you may find everything you need right here. They have flooring, tile, doors, windows, etc. They also have some close out thrifty finds such as furniture, knick knacks, books, etc. You really have to know what you're looking for when you go, there's a lot to see! read more

Spent 45 min picking out used books here which I was told the price just depended on what it was. Got 4 book an the owner first asks me what I do for work like he's discriminating somehow before he comes up with a magic number of $50.00! For used books! Then when I tell him he should have the books priced so he doesn't waste people's time he says he doesn't care or feel responsible for that very rudely. I would imagine he deals with the rest of his merchandise and customers similar and would never go back. read more

This place is a joke. Pricing is inconsistent and exorbitantly high for items that are the dregs of a yard sale or a K-Mart that has gone out of business. The only scrounging to be had is the owners' acquisition of such items...it doesn't appear that they want people to buy any of these items. It's more of a hoarder's paradise. read more

After my first trip today my new nickname for this place is "Glitter and Shitters" to accurately reflect the wide range of household and "other" items available for purchase. Need an authentic African treehouse or fully inflatable aircraft style rescue boat? What about flooring, marble statuary, or assorted parts for everything in this universe? Head on over to the S.P. yo. and make sure you take your A-level haggling skills with you, because very few things have prices affixed to them. Giant warehouse filled with random things. If you are a Maker, Crafter, Builder, DIYer, this place is for you. I think a theater prop dept would go nuts here. Everything from marble statues, beautiful hardwood flooring, odd knicknacks, unusual clothing, industrial amounts of glitter, old USGS maps of small town America, survival rations from China, coconut coir fiber for the hydroponic gardener you know, windows and doors, a random chair or 8... this is a place to stay and dig around for a bit. Many of the items are of a higher quality than you'll find elsewhere, but you'll have to search to find the real treasure. You'll have to ask the workers for prices. read more

If I could give this place a -1 rating I would. Yes it if Full of Stuff, and that's putting it nicely, but this guy Mark needs a reality check on his prices. He has things priced much above retail! And I am certain that his return policy is non existent. Since this old warehouse is scary to look at and he obviously doesn't pay to heat the place you would think that you would be getting a bargain, but you are not!!! I went here yesterday planning on purchasing over 300 sf of tile and he has 2.52 marked on the tile I was interested in. Every other piece of tile in there has a price per Square Foot -as tile is always sold! When he came to great us after being there over 45 minutes he informed us that we misread the price and it was 3.95, when I can purchase this tile at Lowes for 3.45 sf. When I told him the price that he had marked on the tile he told me I was wrong and walked off. Great customer service for someone with $1000 CASH IN HAND and ready to buy!!
