    Strange Lame excuses
    Galen W.

Clayton scammed me out of $165. Do not pay him via Zelle. He was friendly at first, sent me pics of my painting in progress then asked for payment. I was very happy with the pics he sent, so I was happy to pay ahead of time. Then things with him went very awry. He told me the painting would ship on Monday and he would send me the tracking number. About a week after that when I inquired about the tracking number, he told me that he did not ship the painting as agreed. In a quite strangely written text conversation, Clayton explained to me that the painting was in his car, but that he had 'lost his car in a casino parking lot' in Las Vegas. He would need to get his car out of impound, and that he was 'taking a greyhound back to LA. I would have to wait. Ok I thought, crap happens, he will make good on it. Several weeks went by. I asked him again when my painting would be sent, and he explained in a pissy tone that my painting as well as several other customers paintings were still lost in his car in Nevada. He assured me that he would ship the painting if I just gave him more time. Again, giving him the benefit of the doubt, I decided to wait his problems out. Fast forward 3-4 months, I contacted him again via text asking where the heck the painting I paid in full for was. I said look, I never received it, can you just send me a new one? His response and attitude was in effect, "I shipped that weeks ago, you should contact the post office for your missing package". I have a USPS account that sends me a daily summary of all incoming mail and packages. When I confronted him with the screen shots showing I had daily status emails from the post office showing no packages were sent, he ghosted me. BEWARE of this guy and DONT pay him via Zelle, you will not get refunded.

My dog passed away and of course it was devastating . Then I found Clayton with Paintmydog. He did the most beautiful painting of my dog Brooklyn. Everyone including myself was blown away by his talent! Everyone wants a painting now. I'm trying to get pics of friends dogs because I think they would make great Christmas presents. I normally am not 1 to brag but I can't help it. Was totally blown away! I now I have a beautiful painting on canvas of my furbaby. I can't thank Clayton enough, but I thought this might help him or help anyone else who is heartbroken and needs a beautiful painting of their pet. Wish I found him sooner. God led me to him when Brooklyn died.

What the "artist" painted on the left vs. the final painting I commissioned on the right.

I think he stole someone else's art work to advertise online. He has an ad on Craigslist as others here have said, where he offers to paint for free, sends photos of the progress, then you get to decide whether you want to buy it or not. However, like others have noted, he asks for a small deposit first before starting the work. That makes sense as I think all creatives should get paid, or partially paid, before starting any kind of work. As others mentioned here, as I got the progress pictures, I started doubting whether the art in the Craigslist ad was made by the same artist or person I was speaking to via text. It looked like it was painted by a completely different person, so I said I didn't want the painting. When I told him I didn't like the painting, he started threatening me (I'VE INCLUDED SCREEN SHOTS OF OUR TEXT CONVERSATION IN THE PHOTOS SECTION HERE) and tell me I was an asshole, etc. It's unfortunate.

At first, everything was fine. He said that he would draw and then if I like it I could purchase it. Initially, I told him the price point was a little high. Today I got many "updates", and when I got back to him, I got extremely rude responses. Screenshot included.

Walk in here and you can smell the ambition, acrylic, and caffeine. It's like stepping into a time capsule where brushes still matter, ink still stains, and creativity doesn't come with a subscription fee. The value here and the prices were super reasonable. I came here with my draftsman, a guy who still draws by hand -- a dying breed in a world that runs on Ctrl+Z. Watching him walk these aisles was like watching a monk in a cathedral. Every shelf, every pen, every tube of paint is curated chaos. And the best part? The staff actually care. They know the difference between gouache and watercolor -- and they don't judge you for mispronouncing it. Friendly service, clean restrooms (a small miracle in Los Angeles), and a selection so deep it could inspire Picasso's ghost to start over. From sketchbooks to sculpting tools, markers to mat cutters, they've got everything you need to make something real -- or at least look like you tried. Blick's been around since 1911, and this Beverly Blvd location has kept L.A.'s art scene supplied through every phase -- from punk flyers to NFT hangovers. It's an institution, and it deserves to stay that way. Blick Art Materials is a love letter to real art in a copy-paste world. The service is friendly, the aisles are inspiring, and the supplies are top-notch. If you make anything with your hands, your heart, or even just a stubborn sense of nostalgia -- support this place. Because when shops like this vanish, so does a little bit of the soul of Los Angeles. Support this place -- or someday the only "art supplies" left will be ring lights. Blick is where real artists shop while influencers pretend to paint.

It was such a fun class, and as first-timers to pottery, we felt like it was a great introduction. The instructors were helpful, and the whole process was really enjoyable. We were led upstairs, and I was surprised by the rooftop pond, and how beautiful the koi fishes were! You can also see the Hollywood sign in the distance. It was a very serene space. Filming is welcome (a plus for capturing memories!), and parking is free right out front. Just note: the lot is pretty small, so I recommend arriving early to snag a spot. Our instructor was super informative and made sure to spend time with everyone in the class, walking us through every step of the process. It was hands-on and beginner-friendly, which made it all the more enjoyable. The only downside is the wait bc our finished bowls took about 6-8 weeks to be ready after shaping them on the wheel. But honestly, it was worth it--they turned out beautifully :')

The store is organized, never too crowded. I've gone to purchase a few frames, for the style I went for, they have had exactly the color and fit I need. Never a miss Parking: On the weekend when it's busier, I park on the roof of the parking structure. During the week, in the evening, it's super easy to find parking right at the front of the store. The street isn't as busy to, super safe. Customer Service: It's eh. No one will go out of their way to ask you a question or for help, which I don't mind, since I like to wonder. When I have asked questions though, the staff has been bland and blah. Verdict: Will continue to go here, it has everything I need, and parking is always easy. It's literally a space where you sit down, slow down, and create. You get to design your own bracelets, pick your charms, layer your colors, and make something that actually means something to you. It's giving: * healing girl time * intentional conversations * matching bestie bracelets * main character energy And what I really appreciated? You walk out with something YOU made. Not something you bought off a shelf -- something you created. For a girls' day on Melrose? 10/10. For a birthday activity? So cute. For just tapping into your creative side? Perfect.
