Excellent neighborhood gem of a butcher shop. Everything is high quality, and they have the more unusual stuff other stores might not carry. (I even got a Whole Pig from them once! Super easy to work with, even for that weird request). I'd say their prices are reasonable compared to other local stores. Staff is helpful and friendly. I asked for a bone in lamb shoulder. They gave me one with multiple large slaps of bones ie. hardly any meat. The lamb shoulder was over $50 and was only enough to feed one family member. Sadly I didn't check before purchasing. I will never be buying anything from this place again. They really don't put prioritize the customer. Had a slower work day so made it a point to walk over here from Jay Street. Very glad I did. Not just a butcher shop but also a place to get excellent sandwiches. Tried the namesake "Paisano" and very happy I did. Sandwich is massive, packed with Italian cold-cuts and provolone, and perfectly vinegared roasted peppers. Service was friendly and efficient. I came to Paisano's to purchase lamb for a dish I wanted to make, and if I still lived in New York City, this would definitely be a go to place. The high quality of meat sold here is so much better than what is sold at grocery stores. No comparison. Service was really good and when I visited, the shop had a friendly neighborhood atmosphere. The guy who helped me at the counter was very knowledgeable, and the lamb he sold me had a great, buttery texture. I also thought the display cases were impressive. My trip to Paisanos was so fun! I went today during the Coronavirus closures, and I waited only about 5min to get in. I mostly came for sausage, and they have a great selection. I got some breakfast sausage, spicy Italian, and Berkshire pork scallion. I also got a couple pork chops, a rack of ribs, some mortadella, and a log of spicy sopressata. For all the pawrents, they have marrow bones in the back for your dog that they'll saw into pieces for a healthy treat. I throw them in the freezer and my 65lb golden doodle spends hours on them - a great value! read more

I have walked by Paisano's at least a dozen times recently. I finally stopped in to give it a try. Paisano's has everything. If you are in need of Italian sausage, Cold Cuts, Rib Eye steaks, Wagyu beef or Lamb chops, then you must go. I was in need of a Sandwich, and I ordered a Forest Ham and Cheese hero. This is my favorite butcher shop in all of NYC. The cuts and quality of the meats are fantastic, at some of the best prices you'll find at any butcher in the city. The customer service is personal and superb. I have never been let down on any of my purchases here - when I cook steaks for guests, they are always blown away at how good it is. Their Italian sandwiches are nothing to sleep on too - some of my favorite in the city. The ingredients are top notch, all the way from the bread to the cured meats, and the cheese. Note: they limit the number of people inside at one time, so on weekends there can be a queue outside the door. Definitely worth the wait though! read more

One of the many Italian delis in the area, this is likely the largest of them and they serves a whole lot of different meats and overall more cheeses and meats than any of the other spots. They are also one of the oldest of the spots and have had long term customers for ages. The people here are very knowledgeable and friendly. I personally go here for sandwiches which range in prices (mostly in the low to mid teens) but they are massive and stuffed and mostly big enough for two meals. I prefer the prosciutto at Dellapietras but but prefer the roast beef here and they have a whole lot more on the menu compared to most other spots. I definitely prefer MozzLab in terms of cheese and I think their sandwiches are better but they are more expensive so if you prefer a bit less quality, go here. Welp, I made 2 mistakes. 1) Sent a friend that doesn't know anything about beef or steaks to grab a porterhouse. 2) Told friend, "Don't worry, you don't need to know anything. It's an old school spot and the butcher will make sure you get a good steak. The weakest PH I've seen outside of a grocery store. I was a vegetarian for 10 years and I've spent the last decade or so making up for that egregious mistake. Paisano's is, without a doubt, my favorite place to get my carnivore on. They have a stellar selection of steaks - both dry aged and not - and sausages (the spicy Italian is LIFE CHANGING) and while I haven't personally sampled them, a ton of other exotic meats and cuts (ostrich, bison etc.) They also carry a ton of different homemade side dishes like salads and pastas, rice balls, a stellar olive selection, and a ton of pastas (dry and fresh/refrigerated including awesome ravioli), cheeses, meats, and different sauces. The butchers are all excellent - every time I go in there I learn something new. They've truly never steered me wrong. Considering the quality of their products, the prices are incredibly reasonable - especially compared to their competitors in Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope. My husband and I first came to Paisanos around Christmas time 2020. Due to distancing measures, and the holiday season, there was a crazy long line the first day we came. We came back the next day to line up before the store opened. We didn't have to wait much longer after 9am to go. During this time, there was only one person per party allowed in to minimize wait times. I went in and got a large wagyu steak. My husband had also requested pork braciole, however, the staff misunderstood me and gave me a pound of bresaola instead. We didn't check the bag until we got home, and were both pretty disappointed as this was going to be part of our Christmas dinner. However, a week later, we ordered delivery from Paisanos (through Mercato), and got the pork braciole then with no room for errors. All the meat we've now tried from here has been delicious and top quality. This will be my go-to butcher in the area. read more

Family owned and operated for 60 years, I remember when they were known as Los Paisanos. Situated on Smith Street, this business is a quality butcher shop and more. What is ironic is that aside from chicken/turkey, I don't eat meat; however, I find myself shopping here for their chicken cutlets, cold cuts, ravioli, specialty sauces and jar goods. They have a variety of chicken sausage and at the end of BBQ season last year, I came in to purchase a wheel. I was mindful that most chicken sausage is either prepared in pork or lamb casing which would not work. The person who assisted me at the time assured me that their casing was synthetic. Yay, I bought it and was satisfied. Delicious garlic chicken sausage. Not so good update to that story. Around July 4th this year, I was eager to buy their chicken sausage again. Guess what? Lamb casing. They must have sold me the same last year because I was told that was all they had and how they are made. Of course I was upset because I do not eat red meat. Still open during New York on PAUSE. I waited about 1.25 hours on line but I do believe it was worth every minute, I just wish I had purchased more. The shop allows four people inside at a time and starts the next person's order at the door in attempt to expedite the process. The pick up line is much shorter however it takes about one week out to obtain a Mercato slot, so don't think pick up is an easy way out of waiting. With Au Cheval diner closed, me and my boyfriend have been ordering takeout burgers from our favorite spots but are still missing the Cheval-style goodness. In order to recreate our beloved, I purchased four patties, which was more than enough for two people and slab bacon to top our burgers. I also purchased Mexican chorizo, not pictured, for breakfast hash. The chorizo is labeled as spicy and has a bite on its own however when in the same spoonful as eggs and potatoes, the heat is much calmer. Paisanos carries other specialty items from floor to ceiling, barely showing any free wall space. Here you can find spice blends and rubs, sauces, oils and vinegars, pastas, produce, frozen harder to find meats, and other provisions. read more

Don't normally review places, and I had to wait a day to calm down from my anger at my first experience there. Never been before, knew it had a good reputation, not sure what the ordering process is, but I wanted to see what was available first. Only wanted sausage so I get to the counter and check out what's there, keep hearing Next from people behind the counter. Ready to get something, standing right in front of the counter, guy calls for Next, nobody comes up, he keeps looking to the right, calls Next. I'm standing right in front of him, wave my hands say Hello, this guy never looks at me. Calls Next again and nobody comes up, I'm still standing right in front of him, give him one more shot to help me. He doesn't, apparently he's blind now, and isn't able to say anything else except NEXT, so I leave because this place doesn't want my business and money now. Sent them an email on their website, and was surprised I got a response within about 2 hours. Wants me to come back, apologizes for what happened, everybody's trained to help, the whole customer service routine response I know because I worked retail 30 years and you don't ignore people standing in front of your face. Highly doubtful I'm going back. Not my regular neighborhood and the reputation was burned to the ground on REALLY BAD first impressions, regardless of the quality of your products. I'm sure your regulars will keep you in business, because they'll be seen while newcomers probably won't. read more

This has been my local butcher shop for nearly a decade now, and it is a constant source of meat (read: joy) in my life. They've got all the meat you'll ever need, and it's high quality product you can trust. They've got briskets, pork shoulders, beef ribs, short ribs, and anything else that you'd want to smoke in the summertime, and sous vide in the wintertime. I regularly buy the extra thick baby back ribs (almost too thick), and now that I've pretty much got my technique down, it's essentially the only reason my friends and family tolerate me. The sausages are excellent. They make just about every kind you can think of: chorizo, venison, merguez, breakfast sausage, kielbasa, boudin (blanc and noir), hot dogs, pinwheels, rabbit, bacon, chicken sausage of all varieties...but the best are the hot and sweet Italian sausages. My wife and I love them so much, we bought a couple hundred and incorporated them into the menu at our wedding. True story. If you want ground beef, it's here. They have a few proprietary mixes that are perfect for burgers, balls, meatloaf, chili, or whatever, and if you want some odd brisket/face/tongue blend, I bet they'd do it for you. Settle down though, weirdo, the Paisanos blend is just fine (Two 8 Two Burger around the corner uses it). But if you want something exotic...kangaroo, rattlesnake, ostrich, emu, camel, turtle, antelope, gator...they either have it in stock, or they can get it. Got a grill or an oven, but don't want to actually do any work? They've got steaks marinating, skewers prepped, lambs chopped, burgers pattied, fowl trussed, and roulades rolled. I've found that some of the marinades are actually fantastic, even though I prefer to make my own. I've been told that you can't just live on meat and nothing else (I'm still skeptical), and luckily Paisanos has you covered there too. They've got all the cheese (burrata, parmesan, provolone, whatever), salads, arancini, stuffed olives, roasted peppers...and it all tastes good. The walls are lined with marinades, seasonings, sauces, dressings, and more. The freezers are full of gravies, soups, and pastas. If you can't make a meal out of what you find here, there's something seriously wrong with you. And yes, they've still got the dry-aged steaks. Tomahawks, ribeyes, strips, tenderloins...all you need is salt and pepper, and you could be eating the best steak of your life tonight. Nothing makes me happier than being able to support a local neighborhood shop during these times. Nothing screams home and pure hospitality more than a mom and pop butcher shop. From the moment I walked in you can feel the love and the welcoming smiles. I immediately was attended and got my 2in porterhouse steak. This porterhouse is dry aged 30 days!! When they went to cut it for me, they double checked and showed me what the steak would look like prior to getting it, which I loved. I also picked up some rosemary for added flavor! Now as you see in my pictures, this steak is MASSIVE. I cooked it medium and my goodness. The taste... the crispy char up top. This steak cooks beautifully and tastes just as good. This is the neighborhood butcher shop you've wanted your entire life. Extremely nice and efficient workers, completely reasonable prices, solid grocery selections at a reasonable price, and MEAT. Their sausages are all fantastic, I love using the hot italian links with pasta or on the grill. I also love their 'paisano burger' patties, both full size and slider size. Their chorizo sliders, chicken sliders and lamb meatballs are fantastic and can all be grilled to give nice options for a big group. Their ground chicken is also really nice, we use it to make both Chinese-style and Thai-style ground chicken dishes and it never disappoints in terms of quality. Highly recommend! read more
