    New restaurant opened

Being from Chicago I'm always skeptical of the so called Chicago style restaurants because most of them miss the mark usually on the small details but I was going to go here and check them out. The location is the old honey dipped donut store and it looks like the dining room with the couple booths and the old school lunch counter is still intact. This is a very new restaurant so I expected some hiccups but my order was well executed perfectly I must say. The Chicago popular thing is an Italian beef and cheese frys so that's what I ordered, the beef dipped is my thing and I didn't know if they would understand that. As far as the cheese frys goes I haven't had them since I left Chicago and they nailed it perfectly with crispy hot frys covered with creamy gooey cheese. Let's see how the Italian beef dipped with hot gardenia goes, nailed it perfectly again because the Italian beef was correct and the au jus was spot on also and it was dipped with all that Ah jus soaked into the soggy tasty correct bread. Ok based on my two items they obviously have some training and knowledge on Chicago style classic fast food that they totally got correct. If the rest of the menu executed correctly then the area is going to have an authentic tasting Chicago style restaurant. Good job and I wish you success and let's see if the pizza puff is just as good because that was a favorite when I lived in Chicago.

Good California style burger! Husband wanted me to pick up burgers and fries, so that's what I did. It looks like they have other good stuff on their menu too.

This is one of my favorite places to go in West Allis. The food here is super delicious. I try to stop in at least once a week. If you are looking for good food and a nice atmosphere this is the place. The owner is such an amazingly friendly person. Pictured here is the "Mindy Special" Or the Chicken Philly Cheese Sandwich. It is fried onions, mushrooms, chicken over french fries with nacho cheese sauce.

The Buffalo wings are great and prices are reasonable. Cashier is always friendly and helpful.

Food was fresh, and the service was good. We tried the shrimp plate and the cheese steak sandwich and they were very good.

Other people there were raving about the Italian beef so I'll have to try that next.

It's a great environment with a lot of good drink options. I always opt for the Parker rolls which are tasty but again expensive for the amount you get, I typically order the trout (which until coming here I didn't realize was essentially the same as salmon). It's very good and the potato pancake is a nice touch. Over my visits I've also enjoyed trying the short rib gnocchi, butter chicken, and brussels. They also have a small party room which I have attended an event in before which is always a nice touch. It's secluded and of course much quieter than their main dining area which can get pretty loud!

The waitstaff will walk you through how that works your first time. We started with some of the taste & share plates - showing off WI cheese to the out of towners - and then a few people shared some gnocchi and beef tartare while a couple people got burgers. We had maybe 4 bites leftover, and no room for dessert, it was a personal victory. I'm sad I didn't get photos because I love the feel of each unique area that's here. The restaurant is bigger than you think because it's subdivided into smaller rooms. We had a group of 7 for a work event (which meant I kept my phone put away) and were in a cozy little nook in the back by ourselves, I'd never even noticed this little spot. What a fantastic time we had!

The waitress came by and gave me a specials breakfast menu and took my order and off she went. She came back with coffee and water and not 8 minutes later brought my biscuits and gravy with eggs and sausage and an extra side if hash browns. It was large enough for me to ask for a to go container to put in half of the biscuits and gravy and half of the hash browns. The balance was consumed and was very good, with plenty of sausage in the gravy over the biscuits. Coffee was reasonable and parking was available right up front.

We both ordered the 3 piece cod dinner which came with a cup of soup, choice of potato, Cole slaw and a basket with bread, crackers and butter. I ordered the chicken and dumpling soup and my husband had the clam chowder. My soup was very bright yellow with a lot dumplings. It was a little salty but good. My husband liked the clam chowder but mostly only broth. We both had fries for our potato choice. The fries and fish were both crispy and good. The fish was breaded not battered. I liked the creamy coleslaw. Not much of a vinegar coleslaw fan so I was happy. The price of $14.99 for the fish dinner I feel was very reasonable. It is not a fancy place, a cozy diner type restaurant. Our waitress was nice and attentive. Overall a good dinner.

But once you know where it is, it's easy to find and worth it. I went in during lunch one day and it was quiet. The hours are limited, as they close early afternoon. I had a great conversation with the owners and cook, Gus, and his lovely wife behind the counter. I ordered the lamb gyro plate with the french fries - and Gus said, you can get fries anywhere, try my rice! And so he served up the rice and asked me to try it right then and there. I asked for my feta on the side, and again he was insistent I try it then. The portions are gigantic - it was enough for at least 2 meals. We talked about his background in ethnic cooking. I was impressed they opened up around the time Covid-19 was raging and they've managed to stay in business despite opening up during a difficult time. The food was good, the portions are generous, making it a good value for the money, I enjoyed meeting the proprietors, and I'm looking forward to returning and trying out some of his soups and other lunch items.

His current restaurant is Gus' Deli - West Allis, WI at 813 N 60th Street, on the first floor of the CBS 58 building. Last weekend, I finally got a chance (two chances, actually) to visit. Saturday morning, I called in a carry-out order for a Ham, Egg, and Cheese breakfast sandwich on wheat, and on Monday, I walked in and ordered the Chicken Enchiladas dinner for carry-out. Both were really excellent and a GREAT value with plenty of food! I could only finish half of each at each sitting and had the rest as leftovers later on those respective days. Dine-in and carry-out is available, and the menu hangs above the kitchen and consists of breakfast and lunch sandwiches, as well as some Mexican favorites, such as tacos, buritos, and enchiladas, with choice of chicken, beef, or pork. His website, Facebook page, Google page, and Yelp page all show slightly different business hours, but the key takeaways are 1) open for breakfast and lunch Monday-Saturday, and 2) the food is delicious at a great value! This last photo shows the Summer business hours will be 8am-2pm Monday-Saturday, starting June 13th, but you safely call in a carry-out order or dine-in during those times this week, too.
