    Club Sandwich and chili
    Jim M.

Stopped in for lunch yesterday at Gus' Deli. It's in an unusual place but definitely worth finding! I was meeting a colleague ahead of an afternoon meeting and Gus' was close by. I had the chicken tacos and my colleague had chili and a club sandwich. WOW! That was a lot of food! Definitely a good value. The food came out quickly as it did not seem very busy for lunchtime. We grabbed beverages from the cooler and ordered at the bar. We sat down and the food arrived in minutes. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. The host and the cook/owner both stopped by to check on us. The food was tasty but I thought the chicken in my tacos could use some seasoning. This was easily resolved with some salsa. We were in and out quickly and with leftovers. Gus' is definitely worth a visit!

Best lunch place. Gus and his wife are the nicest people! Food is amazing. All food is fresh and cooked by Gus himself.

In addition to serving amazing food for both breakfast and lunch (my go-to's are the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich for breakfast and the club sandwich for lunch), Gus is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Since I became a semi-regular customer a couple years ago, it's hard to tell which one of us is more excited to see there other when I come through the door. Even if he's busy he always takes a moment to ask how my family is doing and he often shows me something he's cooking up special. Equally, first time customers are treated with warmth and appreciation like you've been a customer of his forever. The world would be a far better place if more people were like Gus.

    Lamb Gyro w/ fries

Lovely place tucked away here. Food was absolutely excellent, I had a lamb gyro sandwich and it is top tier compared to other places that offer it. Staff were so wholesome and kind and I will always recommend this place to anyone I see.

WOW doesn't look like much until you walk in

I have been tryin to get in here for a while now but the hours are weird, I forget about them or I drive past when they are closed and it never worked out until today. The place is in what looks like a dead mall with a TV station and nothing to look at from the outside but the inside is really neat with a bar, comfy puffy chairs, tables. TVs, pictures and kitsch everywhere with exposed brick and ceiling. The guy working the kitchen is super friendly with his customers and keeps you updated on your order while he is making the orders before me. The turnover case is filled with ridiculous huge pastries. For a deli I hated the menu because it didn't have a lot of sandwich options and it had Mexican and middle eastern options with breakfast and no Italian sandwich option. I opted for the most pricy sandwich which is the club which I thought was pricy thinking of previous clubs that I have had. I don't do club sandwiches very often but it's all I liked on the menu and I do occasionally order them. OMG this is a Fu%#ing monster master piece club sandwich like I have never had the pleasure of being introduced to before and it's epic in it's raw form. The club was fu%#ing delicious on bakery toasted fresh white bread with thick sliced ham and turkey, tomato, lettuce, cheese, bacon and mayo. OK I see why it's $10 because it's not the typical whimpy club sandwich because it's more like a gourmet club with quality fresh toppings and meats and no skimping on anything. The cold fresh toppings were very refreshing on a hot summer day. Did I mention that's it's piled high with the container barely able to close and you need to be a snake and unhinge your jaw to eat it but it's well worth getting. I have never had a club sandwich executed so well above the average and it definitely shines. This is the best club sandwich that I have ever had and it's playing at a level that few can compete with because they don't try, passion and vision is behind this sandwich and it shows. I'm definitely making this place my go to place to get a club sandwich. Nice job. I don't give 5 stars that often on my reviews if you follow me and my reviews because I feel that a 5 star is only worthy when I get blown away with an experience so the highest star is not given lightly, today Gus deli entered my 10% club and they earned it, see my pictures.

Stopped in to Gus's Deli this morning...you might remember Gus and not even realize it. He is a sweet, funny, one of a kind gentleman. Back in the day, he owned The Unicorn, a punk/alternative club and music venue in the basement of the Sydney Hih building that many now-famous musicians played at including Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana and the Smashing Pumpkins. He also used to own Gus' Mexican Cantina and several other restaurants before retiring to North Carolina. Retirement didn't serve him well. He lost everything in a hurricane a few years ago, came back to MKE and here we are today. He's just as delightful as he always was and the food was amazing. You won't be disappointed. Pro tip: the entire menu is available even at breakfast!!

The food was excellent. Owners were some of the nicest people I've met. Giant portions. I'll definitely be back!

Chip's and salsa, chicken quesadilla. Fantastic, fresh ingredients.

Very fresh ingredients and great service. The people and surroundings were awesome. I will definitely be coming back.

Got happy hour drink, Water of Life which was good. It came in a flamingo cup. We ordered two food dishes to share and were not very impressed. Portions were small for the price. The island stir fry was bland, the teriyaki sauce on the side was needed. We added jerk chicken which helped with the flavor. But disappointed in amount of veggies. The Wauwatiki smash was alright. The smash patties were a little charred. The pineapple was not very juicy and the burger could have used more sauce. My friend probably should have made a reservation for the amount of people that we had, 8 total but not all came at the same time or stayed. When asked if we could get on a list for a table that Friday night, there was a 30-40 minute wait so some of us sat at the bar and there was an empty table next to us so we used that as well. The drinks were good, although a bit pricey in my opinion. I didn't try any food but several people got the fried rice and it looked and smelled really good. One thing I didn't like about our visit was the attitude of the server/host working the section we were near. I don't know, she was rude and kept glaring at us because some of us were in her section maybe? She kept talking to the bartenders while staring at us. I think she assumed those people would only order from the bar rather than from her but that wasn't the case. We ended up leaving before we got a table for all of us because the vibe was just off. I will say they have a large patio outside which would be nice in summer. The bartenders were very attentive and friendly, just not thrilled with the one person. Also, I got one of the drinks that has fire and I had to ask the bartender if I needed to put it out. He said, well yeah you should put it out before drinking it. Right, but what I meant was will it go out by itself or do I need to do it? Creative looking drinks but maybe they could mention how to go about it if it's on fire lol. Or maybe I'm stupid. I like the chill vibe and low lighting so in my opinion, it's better to go with a smaller group or for date night.

This is a beautiful space with lots of light, creative decor and a cozy feel, but the space is relatively small with tables of four, so it's easy to fill up quickly. We started with the Hot Honey Cheese Curds, which were delicious. More honey than hot, but very good. The honey added a velvety sweetness to the soft, gooey curds that made this appetizer taste more like a dessert! For an entree I tried the Maple Ginger Lettuce Wraps. I was surprised there were no knives at the table, but in the end I didn't need one. The maple ginger teriyaki chicken was extremely tender and juicy. The cucumber slices that accompanied were large and crispy and tasted great with the sauce. The romaine slices were large and perfectly cut to cradle the chicken and hold the cilantro lime sauce. All in all an wonderful, fresh dish that was refreshing and filling.

The side with the chicken caesar wrap with fries. I'd say the fries were shoestring in thickness and lukewarm in temperature. They weren't super crispy, but were salted well and hit the spot. Oh my, that chicken caesar wrap was glorious. HUGE in size with tremendous flavor. The crispy chicken tasted like it was pickle brined, not too different from the chicken from Chick-fil-A, so it added an extra dimension to the wrap. I like the presentation of the parmesan and that it wasn't mixed in with the chicken, lettuce, and dressing so those three ingredients could be the heroes they needed to be. This is a wrap I would get it again and again.

When I first pulled up to the building it was 7:30am, and they were open. But the windows somehow made it look dark inside, and I literally had to put my nose to the glass to see any activity. Otherwise I might have thought they were closed and kept going (special glass that cuts down glare inside?). Once inside there are several different areas for seating; the bar with stools, the front windows ledge with more stools, or the center area that has larger tables for various size groups. Lots of natural light from the front windows. The interior design, is a bit industrial, well lit, and welcoming. Things were neat and clean. Inside there was a short line to the counter which was right ahead. Took a few minutes to arrive at counter and order. Got a pleasant greeting and help with the order. I ordered the usual London Fog Tea Latte (little lavender, little vanilla, and extra foam). They didn't have much in the way of pastries/bakery. They were out of the Coffee Cake, but suggested the Apple Galette supplied by Miss Molly Bakery. They don't have the ability to warm up the bakery, which was a little disappointment. They took their time steeping the tea, which is a good thing. It came with a nice head of foam, had great flavor, and was the right temperature (148F). Texture-wise it could have been a little creamier. The Apple Galette was amazing. The crust was flakey and nicely sprinkled with course sugar. The apples had great flavor and were moist. The atmosphere was relaxed and most people were having quiet conversations. There's a very chill cat (Sugar) roaming around the place, and occasionally keeping people company. Not my favorite, but definitely a place that I would return to.
