    Club Sandwich and chili
    Jim M.

Stopped in for lunch yesterday at Gus' Deli. It's in an unusual place but definitely worth finding! I was meeting a colleague ahead of an afternoon meeting and Gus' was close by. I had the chicken tacos and my colleague had chili and a club sandwich. WOW! That was a lot of food! Definitely a good value. The food came out quickly as it did not seem very busy for lunchtime. We grabbed beverages from the cooler and ordered at the bar. We sat down and the food arrived in minutes. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. The host and the cook/owner both stopped by to check on us. The food was tasty but I thought the chicken in my tacos could use some seasoning. This was easily resolved with some salsa. We were in and out quickly and with leftovers. Gus' is definitely worth a visit!

In addition to serving amazing food for both breakfast and lunch (my go-to's are the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich for breakfast and the club sandwich for lunch), Gus is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Since I became a semi-regular customer a couple years ago, it's hard to tell which one of us is more excited to see there other when I come through the door. Even if he's busy he always takes a moment to ask how my family is doing and he often shows me something he's cooking up special. Equally, first time customers are treated with warmth and appreciation like you've been a customer of his forever. The world would be a far better place if more people were like Gus.

Best lunch place. Gus and his wife are the nicest people! Food is amazing. All food is fresh and cooked by Gus himself.

WOW doesn't look like much until you walk in

I have been tryin to get in here for a while now but the hours are weird, I forget about them or I drive past when they are closed and it never worked out until today. The place is in what looks like a dead mall with a TV station and nothing to look at from the outside but the inside is really neat with a bar, comfy puffy chairs, tables. TVs, pictures and kitsch everywhere with exposed brick and ceiling. The guy working the kitchen is super friendly with his customers and keeps you updated on your order while he is making the orders before me. The turnover case is filled with ridiculous huge pastries. For a deli I hated the menu because it didn't have a lot of sandwich options and it had Mexican and middle eastern options with breakfast and no Italian sandwich option. I opted for the most pricy sandwich which is the club which I thought was pricy thinking of previous clubs that I have had. I don't do club sandwiches very often but it's all I liked on the menu and I do occasionally order them. OMG this is a Fu%#ing monster master piece club sandwich like I have never had the pleasure of being introduced to before and it's epic in it's raw form. The club was fu%#ing delicious on bakery toasted fresh white bread with thick sliced ham and turkey, tomato, lettuce, cheese, bacon and mayo. OK I see why it's $10 because it's not the typical whimpy club sandwich because it's more like a gourmet club with quality fresh toppings and meats and no skimping on anything. The cold fresh toppings were very refreshing on a hot summer day. Did I mention that's it's piled high with the container barely able to close and you need to be a snake and unhinge your jaw to eat it but it's well worth getting. I have never had a club sandwich executed so well above the average and it definitely shines. This is the best club sandwich that I have ever had and it's playing at a level that few can compete with because they don't try, passion and vision is behind this sandwich and it shows. I'm definitely making this place my go to place to get a club sandwich. Nice job. I don't give 5 stars that often on my reviews if you follow me and my reviews because I feel that a 5 star is only worthy when I get blown away with an experience so the highest star is not given lightly, today Gus deli entered my 10% club and they earned it, see my pictures.

The Club Sandwich with fries - huge and simply outstanding

Stopped in to Gus's Deli this morning...you might remember Gus and not even realize it. He is a sweet, funny, one of a kind gentleman. Back in the day, he owned The Unicorn, a punk/alternative club and music venue in the basement of the Sydney Hih building that many now-famous musicians played at including Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana and the Smashing Pumpkins. He also used to own Gus' Mexican Cantina and several other restaurants before retiring to North Carolina. Retirement didn't serve him well. He lost everything in a hurricane a few years ago, came back to MKE and here we are today. He's just as delightful as he always was and the food was amazing. You won't be disappointed. Pro tip: the entire menu is available even at breakfast!!

    Lamb Gyro w/ fries

Lovely place tucked away here. Food was absolutely excellent, I had a lamb gyro sandwich and it is top tier compared to other places that offer it. Staff were so wholesome and kind and I will always recommend this place to anyone I see.

The food was excellent. Owners were some of the nicest people I've met. Giant portions. I'll definitely be back!

Chip's and salsa, chicken quesadilla. Fantastic, fresh ingredients.

Very fresh ingredients and great service. The people and surroundings were awesome. I will definitely be coming back.

I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast with scrambled eggs and cheese, hashbrowns, and mini cakes. Chicken fried steak is usually something I pass on, but today it sounded great. I liked the taste of the meat and how crispy the breading was. They probably could have cut back on the amount of gravy and it still would have been plenty. By no means am I a chicken fried steak connoisseur, but I thought this was a good one. The eggs had an off putting taste, even the part without cheese. Almost sour like. I ate some, but didn't finish them. The hashbrowns were unfortunately bland even with adding salt and pepper. The mini cakes had a hint of sweet without the syrup, which was nice, but weren't as dense as I prefer. What I mean by that is I don't need pancakes to be bricks, but they should have some substance to them. I'd likely just get toast next time instead of the mini cakes.

Today I was craving comfort food meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy and it's on the menu as a hot open face sandwich or the dinner plate so I opted for the sandwich which is a smaller portion in my mind that comes with choice of potato and a cup of soup for $12.50 so I wasn't expecting much. My carry out bag was weighty I noticed and I couldn't wait to open this sandwich. My choice of potato was mashed, duh with chicken dumpling soup. The chicken dumpling soup was slightly seasoned with Al dente dumplings but not much chicken but it was all dumplings and little broth, no skimping on the soup and let's face it we ordered dumpling soup for the dumplings. The meatloaf looked amazing with 3 thick slices the size of 1/2 pound burgers on 2 pieces of white bread and a lump of mashed potatoes smothered in brown gravy, if the sandwich is this huge what's the dinner plate like ?. The meatloaf well was diner meatloaf for the masses and not seasoned very well but nothing salt and pepper can't fix and why it's on the tables. The meatloaf it self was dense with minimal bread fillers I noticed. The brown gravy was thick and smooth. Ok overall was it as good as my meatloaf that I make, no but for diner meatloaf take out does it cure a crave absolutely. As for the 4 stars you ask well I'll tell you. $12.50 for a heaping of comfort food that didn't skimp on anything vs portion/price it's on point.

I so rarely get to Greendale (honestly, can't say that I had ever been to anywhere in the village besides the mall) and I liked that we could make a reservation, making it a nice change of pace. The decor is lovely, very Art Deco, a nod to Eleanor Roosevelt, the namesake of the restaurant. I was very pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the interior was given that the exterior is essentially a strip mall. What's that old saying about books and their covers? Service was great, both attentive and timely, and everyone very much enjoyed their food. Monte Cristo is one of my favorites and this one was done very well. My coffee was also good and she kept it coming, which I also appreciated. Really the only sour note in the entire experience was being asked to vacate the table. While it was not handled terribly poorly, I would have recommended they offer us something to shift to the bar to not end the meal on a less than positive note, but that's just me.

Their website has a popup on the home page saying it comes with fried haddock, potato pancakes, applesauce, and rye bread, but the popup doesn't list the price and it isn't available through the online ordering function. I ended up calling in an order to go, substituting wheat bread for the rye, and also added a piece of lemon ginger coffee cake. The lemon ginger coffee cake tasted fine, but man was it dry. Like Sahara Desert dry. Maybe this was an anomaly and their other baked goods are better, but I'd be hesitant to try them based on this coffee cake. Even though the website says the side is potato pancakes with applesauce, my fish fry came with fries. They ended up being the best part of the meal, which I certainly wasn't expecting. Still, I was disappointed cause I prefer potato pancakes and was given their inclusion as an expectation. The wheat bread itself was ok, but the butter was oddly unsalted. The fish, of which there was three pieces, was battered with a hint of beer, but like the butter for the bread there was no salt to speak of in the batter. As much as I didn't enjoy the unsalted butter for the bread, not having salt in the batter for the fish managed to be more unpleasant. Maybe Blue's Egg should just stick with serving breakfast items instead of adding something temporary that they clearly aren't pros at.
