BLUF: Pick this responsive, quality shipper for Pittsburgh-area auction pickups and shipping. I buy a lot of auction lots and have shippers from all over the country pick them up for me. You sometimes don't know how good they will be other than that the auction house recommends them. One of the main auction aggregator sites recently started offering their own shipping services where you pay them directly and then they arrange to have the items shipped to you. Sometimes they contract for the same people you would, so they just take a middleperson fee and don't do much else. Feels like a monopolistic move to me on some level. On a recent item at a Pittsburgh auction house, I had the option of choosing this shipping service or arranging my own. I have found that arranging your own can be quicker and better, even if the price savings are not great. Pak Mail was the most responsive and agreed to prioritize my pick up for me. They made sure that their whole team was ready to help get it done. The price was slightly higher, but the package came properly packed (not overly so) and arrived at lightning speed. I want folks to know what a super job Pak Mail Pittsburgh did for me. I wrote a detailed letter to Pak Mail listing the information I needed to select a shipper for delicate artwork. I supplied this letter to other shippers. Emily responded to the requested detail, including the detailed packing technique. The pricing was excellent. The shipping container arrived and I was flabbergasted by the extra care in packing the delicate pieces of artwork. The shipping container was banded with extra strength material, shrink wrapped, and heavy-duty staples were used to seal the container. The packing inside the container was extraordinary. Stiff foam boards were used on each side of the container, effectively "double boxing" the items to minimize the cost. Special corrugated material was used to ensure the delicate artwork was protected. Pak Mail took more steps to protect the framed pieces than I have described here. I certainly appreciated the extra care Pak Mail Pittsburgh took to ensure my Reginald Marsh framed etchings arrived without incident. Most of the nationwide moving companies don't handle such a small shipment, and those that do wanted to charge me a full household goods moving price. I live in WASHINGTON STATE and was back in PA for a limited time for a family reunion. I won an Amish bench that I wanted shipped to my home, I contacted a couple of company's for an estimate, I even drove to one of them. Their estimates for packing and shipping were very high.
