Here is how my experience went: The $165 Markup: They charged me $425 for an off-the-shelf ecobee smart thermostat. The exact same unit sells at major retailers like Best Buy for $260. I waited two weeks for them to show up--time I easily could have used to buy the unit myself if I knew he was going to tack on a nearly 64% markup for a product in a cardboard box. The Laughable "Egg" Logic: When I texted Greg to question the massive markup, his attempt to defend it was unintentionally hilarious. He actually wrote: "When you go to the grocery store or a restaurant and you order up three eggs and they charge you $10. Do you tell them I could buy a dozen eggs for less than that?" A factory-sealed, mass-produced thermostat is not a cooked meal at a restaurant. Comparing a retail piece of consumer electronics to three scrambled eggs is pure comedy. The Childish Insult: When I called out how ridiculous his "egg" comparison was, Greg threw a total tantrum. Instead of handling a basic billing inquiry like an adult, he dropped all professionalism and texted me: "What a big baby you are." Calling a paying client a "big baby" because they call out an outrageous markup tells you everything you need to know about how Greg runs his business. He doesn't care about repeat clients, reasonable pricing, or basic respect. Save yourself the money and the headache--hire an HVAC company run by an actual professional.

The fail safe switch they installed did not activated and we had a water leak to include ceiling and floor damage. They denied any responsibility for the matter and were not willing to talk with us about the best way to rectify the matter insurance wise. I would have expected them to talk with the switch manufacture to see what could be done to help their client out. Therefore, we will now be stuck paying the bills because the fail safe switch did not work properly. I would call this just about the worst customer service.

We thought it might be the thermostat so we bought a Nest thermostat and thought the service man would install it. When he came he checked furnace and thermostat and agreed it was the thermostat that needed replacing. I mentioned we had purchased a Nest and asked if he could install it. He didn't seem to think the Nest was compatible. He said he had thermostats in his truck and brought one in, it was a simple Honeywell thermostat. I asked how much it was going to cost, he said $600.00 for thermostat and install. We said no, too expensive. He charged $173.00 for approx 20-30 minutes of his time. I wrote a check. I called another company and had another serviceman come to give me a quote. He took a quick look at the furnace and thermostat and said "there is nothing wrong with your thermostat, it has not been set up correctly." He made a slight adjustment and lo and behold the thermostat is working perfectly! Nice to know there are still some honest people making an honest living. I will call this company any time and trust what they tell me. One thing I didn't mention earlier was that the furnace and thermostat was working last winter. However this past summer I did have another serviceman from Unique come to check if it would be possible to have a humidifier connected to the furnace. I can't say for sure that he touched the thermostat. He may have changed the setup and left without changing it back? Can't say for sure, but mighty suspicious Since we never mess with the setup. Either way, the serviceman from Unique was either totally incompetent or dishonest and just trying to sell me a thermostat for $600.00. I called the company several times, but they never respond.
