    Creole chicken with Mofongo
    Donald H.

returned to Palermao's and had a wonderful meal. we started with Puerto Rican hummus which was different than traditional hummus because of the infusion of Latin spices but was delicious. My wife had chicken marsala which was fusion of Italians and Puerto Rican seasoning and again was delicious. It came in a huge portion along with black beans rice and sweet plantains. I had the chicken creole which again was a generous portion of chicken breast in a unique latin based creole sauce that was also delicious. I had the Mofongo with that came with a garlicky buttery sauce, which if you're a Mofongo fan is not to be missed.service was attentive, professional and friendly. The only thing that you need to be aware of is the restaurant is quite noisy which makes conversation a bit difficult. Palermo's is a must place to eat if you're in the Orange Park area

*20/10. Súper recomendado. Volveremos sin pensarlo.

Food is 100 percent authentic. Everything was so fresh and made to order. The appetizers platter had mini bacalaitos (cod fritters) chicharron de pollo (crispy chicken) meat turnovers and sorullitos all good and freshly made. Alcapurrias were absolutely DELICIOUS. Had the perfect meat/plantain ratio and fried to perfection. The fried red snapper was perfectly made and the churrasco with trifongo was to die for and so was the stuffed chicken breast with goat cheese sauce. We were a group of 14 and they did their best to accommodate all of us. Considering the amount of people our food came out fast and NOBODY had a complaint. Everything was good, fresh and tasty. We also ordered a thanksgiving meal for 20 ppl from them and it lived up to the expectation. The turkey was super moist and flavorful and so were the rest of the sides. This restaurant has proven they know what they are doing. I can't wait to be back. This place is a true Gem .

Got to Palermo right when they opened at 11a on a Thursday. Friendly service that was attentive but not overbearing. Plenty of parking outside and tables inside. Food came out fairly quickly and was hot and tasty. I ordered the fried pork chunks and also tasted the roasted pork. Both really flavorful. There's also a tasty pepper vinegar they bring to the table.

We just tried this place for the first time, already been back multiple times. Very good and good prices.

Rice and beans with cajun vegetables

My first visit to Palermo was through a friend's recommendation. Food was excellent. I got the potato roll. It was hot and meaty. For the main course, I choose the rice and beans with cajun vegetables. I asked for hot sauce so how cajun were the veggies. For drinks, I had a pinot grigio and 2 presidente beers. Unfortunately, Palermo does not have a full service bar. Service on the other hand is slow. I had to signal my waitress to my table. When, she came to the table she said she was in a meeting. Meetings should happen prior to opening or closing. The restaurant is spacious and tables are very private. Palermos was not as busy as I thought it should be. However it is a nice family style restaurant. I can not wait to bring family or friends here. Spanish restaurants are not many and far between if not a mexican restaurant. The waitresses were friendly but I think the food outweighed the service which is a good thing. Im out to eat but would always love to get both, good food and excellent service.

Although it doesn't look like much from the outside, this hidden gem is a must if you're in the mood for authentic Caribbean food. Once you step inside you feel the ambience of a cozy Puerto Rican place with music to welcome you to the theme. We made it there for an early dinner, so the place wasn't crowded, but it looks like they offer live music for the evening audience. Our hostess and server was polite and friendly. And their menu was pretty good considering it's focus on the theme. We both decided to start with appetizers by ordering "empanadadilla" which was quite tasty and didn't feel like they skimp on the chicken filling which we chose. We both also went with a traditional dish, their mofongo with protein. I had the pernil (roast pork butt) and my wife had the mixed plate, which came with chicken, steak and shrimp! The meals also came with a house salad. Although I went with a simple soft drink, my wife tried their signature margarita. It was quite good, although it was a bit on the strong side. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly, even the mofongo wasn't overly garlicy, which other times we've had it, it was. The decor was up to standard within the theme and music wasn't too loud. And surprisingly enjoyable overall. The best part was when getting the check, the prices were adequate for the amount of food we had. Didn't feel hungry at all when she came back to offer dessert. I would highly recommend this place and will be back if in the area again.

Service was not great, they tell you to grab a menu and seat yourself, which was fine but the lady at the front seemed busy and couldnt greet us. Juices tasted watered down, rice tasted almost like it was old. My very first visit brought back fun foodie memories when visiting Puerto Rico several times and eating many homemade dishes when I lived In NJ. My favorite Latin sounds could be heard while outside of the restaurant and more so upon entering. The interior decor was spacious and made me feel like I was away on vacation in P.R. Staff was welcoming and friendly. The owner helped make me feel at home and was super professional. Then came the food and my refreshing non-alcoholic drink. My appetizer was a lobster empanada...Oh my how yummy! One of the lunch specials of the day was a Chinese Puerto Rican fusion style fried rice platter. My choice of protein was the popular fried pork chunks. French fries and an egg roll were included in the platter. Another popular favorite condiment was the "Mayo-Ketchup" sauce that one can drizzle on the food and as much as you please! To help wash down and add a nice sweet balance to the food, I ordered the "Guayaba" fruit juice. Fruity and tropical taste of its own. I skipped breakfast knowing that this visit would require some nice portions to enjoy. I was right and very pleased with the overall taste of the food. If you haven't had Latin food from the Caribbean then hopefully you'll consider visiting Flavorikan and try some of their cuisine. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Years later, and the food is still what keeps bringing us back!…read more My husband is on vacation this week, so we headed to El Pollo Colorao for lunch today as a party of four. We've been eating here for years, and while we love supporting local, enjoy the atmosphere, and have always found the staff friendly, let's be honest -- the food is why we keep coming back. We arrived around 1:30 and had two groups ahead of us at the counter, but the line moved quickly. In fact, there was a pretty steady line the entire time we were there, right up until we left around 2:30. Their takeout business was hopping too! Despite how busy they were, we had no problem finding a table in the dining room. I decided to branch out this visit and tried the #14 Pernil Sandwich with yellow rice. The sandwich has roasted pork and potato straws on their delicious bread, and my first comment after taking a bite was about how flavorful the pork was. It was tender and juicy, and I loved the contrast of the crunchy potato straws with the pork and that soft, slightly sweet bread. So good! Two people in our group ordered the #2 Tripleta, one with yellow rice and the other with yuca. The Tripleta is actually the favorite sandwich of all three of my family members. They love the combination of meats along with the crunch from the potato straws. My husband is normally firmly on Team Tripleta too, but decided to branch out and order the Mediodia this time. We were told when ordering that it would take about 30 minutes and were given the option to change his order, which I appreciated. He decided to wait and was glad he tried it. He enjoyed it, but since he tends to prefer savory over sweet, I have a feeling he'll be right back to his beloved Tripleta next time. And, as always, he got his favorite side -- the maduros. Yum! When everything was ready, they brought our food and drinks right to the table on a tray. The gentleman who took our order was very personable, and Abel came over to our table while we were eating. He recognized my husband and remembered his name -- which really impressed me considering it has probably been about a year since our last visit. And can we talk about the value? We spent about $60 for four meals with sides, three drinks AND a bag containing two loaves of their bread to take home. Yes, we buy the bread every time. It's that good. Even better, the portions are so generous that everyone took about half of their sandwich home for dinner. They definitely don't skimp on the meat here, so you fill up quickly. The dining area is comfortable and has some fun, whimsical artwork that gives the place plenty of personality. They also have a nice assortment of drink options and seating by the windows for customers waiting on takeout orders, which seems to help keep the dining tables available even when they're busy. After all these years and multiple visits, El Pollo Colorao continues to earn 5 stars from us. Great food, generous portions, good value, friendly people, and a locally owned restaurant we're happy to continue supporting.
