We arrived around 6:30 PM for dinner and were only the second customers in the restaurant. It was so empty that we weren't even sure they were open. We made what we thought was the simplest request imaginable--a plate of spaghetti with olive oil and garlic for our child. The waitress returned and informed us that the chef could not make it. Read that again. Plain spaghetti with olive oil and garlic. We honestly thought she was joking. Instead, we were left standing there feeling embarrassed, almost as if we had made some outrageous request. It's pasta, olive oil, and garlic--ingredients found in virtually every kitchen serving Italian-inspired dishes. The idea that a chef couldn't--or wouldn't--prepare something so basic was mind-blowing. If the restaurant has a rigid policy that absolutely nothing outside the printed menu can be prepared, no matter how simple the request, then customers should be told that upfront. Instead, we were made to feel like our request was unreasonable, when in reality it couldn't have been more basic. We were genuinely looking forward to trying the food, but after that interaction, we simply walked out and took our business elsewhere. A restaurant can have a beautiful menu, but if it lacks the willingness to provide even the most basic level of customer accommodation, the dining experience begins and ends with poor customer service. For drinks we got the Lula's Blue Pisco (Pisco, blue curacao, coconut cream, agave, like and coconut rum) and a Peruvian Prince (Peruvian Pisco, passionfruit liquor, peach Schnapps, lime, bitters). Both drinks were strong but the Blue Pisco was skrong. We both liked the taste. We later ordered a Mi Amor (7 misterios Mezcal, muddled watermelon, passionfruit, lime). Also strong and I'm not a watermelon person, but it was hard to not enjoy it. For apps, we got the Totstones Achorados (green plantains, mussels, tomatoes, onions, cilantro) and the Chicharron de Atun (seasoned bluefin tuna crackling, fresh housemade guac, fried jalapeno, cambray onion). The Chicharron surprised me as I didn't think the little fish rounds would be such a tasty snack. And the guac was really creamy, not salty. The tostones were impressive.
