The cafe bom bom is one of my favorite things to order! But you also can't go wrong with the beef empanadas. I've had empanadas in Miami and they don't compare to the ones at Mambo's. I actually discovered Mambo's Cuban Café through social media and originally came in for a coffee and cookie pop-up they were hosting. Even though the pop-up was the initial draw, we decided to sit down in the dining room because the food coming out to other tables looked way too good to ignore. Once we saw plates hitting the tables, it was game over -- we had to try something from the menu. We went with the Cuban sandwich, and it definitely delivered. Pressed perfectly, flavorful, and satisfying without being overly heavy. You can tell it's made with care and tradition. The café itself has a welcoming vibe, and it felt like a great spot to either pop in for coffee or actually sit down and enjoy a meal. I really appreciated being able to experience both the pop-up event and the regular dining side of the café in one visit. Overall, a solid experience and absolutely worth checking out -- especially if you're already in the area or discover it the way I did through social media. Got to eat in the restaurant this time instead of takeout. It was just as delicious and it's a nice, big restaurant. Could accommodate a large party. The only this, our waiter was cold and didn't talk much whenever we said thank you and asked for something. Mambos in my opinion is probably one of the best Cuban food restaurants and all of the STATE OF FLORIDA. My Cuban heritage is my résumé towards this claim. They have a Cuban deluxe sandwich that is unbeatable by any restaurant in either Miami or Tampa and this one happens to be located right here in Jacksonville. My new go to Cuban meal is vaca Frita after my visit to Mambo's in Jacksonville. We stopped by for lunch based upon a recommendation of a friend. From the outside, it looks somewhat like a fast casual restaurant, but once inside the vibe overtakes you - with authentic Cuban music, mural artwork and the wonderful scents of Cuban food, the energy of the location abounds. As I shared, the vaca Frita was amazing, accompanied by rice and beans and sweet plantains. The rest of the group had picadillo, and pan con bistec y queso (a cheese steak), and all were wonderful. We finished up with a shared order of flan, which was tasty and well prepared. Service from Gisela was efficient and friendly. Pricing averaged about $30 per person all in, which was a reasonable value overall. For a wonderful authentic Cuban meal, you should visit Mambo's. read more

We started out with some croquetas as an appetizer. These were really yummy, even without the sauce they came with, although the sauce was good too. For our lunch entrées, my brother and I took the waitress's recommendations. I got the croqueta preparada sandwich, which is a Cuban sandwich with croquetas in it too. I really enjoyed it, and the portion was very generous. I could've finished it if I was extra hungry, but the sandwich really could feed two people. I got yuca on the side, and I thought it was a little dry, but still good. My brother got the pollo de oro. It was really tasty, but the chicken portion was a little skimpy, especially compared to the portions of the sides they gave, and the portions of the sandwiches. The staff is exceptional. They had great recommendations, were very accommodating, and you can tell they have each others' backs. The locale is super cute with cool Cuban decor and old pictures of the staff. So delicious. My daughter & i went there yesterday. We're new to the area so we didn't know what was good and we stopped there and had lunch. Coupon issue: I came to the 13770 beach blvd location, ordered $60 in food and was denied this free desert. The manager was not sympathetic at first and just explained that it was for the new location which isn't even open yet. *Update- After seeing this review, the location owner followed up with me to apologize and correct this. The owner invited me back to redeem the free dessert and the manager was talked to about honoring coupons and such. Hopefully this won't be an issue in the future for others now! As far as the food: The food is ready quickly and tastes like reheated chain food especially the rice. All food was pretty salty for my taste but portions are larger than you realize if you don't share the meal. We stopped by for lunch Monday and it was our first trip here in a few years. The spot is casual, table service, decent food and service. My first issue is the booth they seated us in had the most worn seats I had seen ever and it was very uncomfortable as I had on shorts and my legs were scratched. Horrible. The waitress was very nice and quick to get our drinks and food. We started with the cheese bite appetizer and it was barely warm. I ordered black bean soup with rice and bread and the hubby had a Cuban sandwich with fries. The entrees were large and tasty. My soup was piping hot but hubby's sandwich and fries not so much. The only downside was the Congrí rice, which was a little dry. Still, the overall flavor and quality were great. Our server Luis was wonderful and very helpful! We ordered the Pechuga de pollo, the Pollo mushroom (loved it!), Ropa Vieja, the Cuban sandwich for the kids, yuca cheese bites appetizer and papa rellenas...all excellent.
