Palermo's has a wide variety of tasty treats, and I have been privileged to sample cakes, canolis, biscotti, and tiramisu when receiving a gift basket from a friend. What a treat: all the desserts were delicious and perfectly light and airy or bold and satisfying at the appropriate occasion. I checked out more of their cakes on the Palermo website and I had no idea they were more than the average bakery. These cakes are works of art! And if they are half as delicious as those little airy caramel chocolate thingys . . . I felt I needed to write a review because I ordered a cake for my daughters 1st birthday 4 days before the party and they were able to accommodate. The cake was ready at the time I requested as well. The cake looked AMAZING AND tasted even better!! Many of my guests actually came up to me to ask where I had ordered the cake from because they couldn't believe how good it tasted! I am glad my experience was an unremarkable one. I came here for a cake testing. The Brookside Manor Venue where I am having my daughters sweet sixteen included a cake for us and they advised they work with Palermos Bakery. I walked in on the bakery side not knowing there was another entrance. A staff member greeted me and told me I had to go back out to the other section. She then looked at the group I was with and seemed bothered that it was more than two people. I went with my three daughters, my mother and my mother in law. It was as a memorable experience for us. I didn't let her negative vibe ruin our appointment. We went to the other side and the second the door opened we were very warmly welcomed by Haley. She made this experience so beautiful and special. I will forever be grateful to her. Haley went above and beyond to make sure all our request were met. She was patient, friendly informative and professional beyond words! Just called them up to schedule a tasting for our wedding that is taking place next December. Upon requesting to do a Sunday morning in February, the woman who answered the phone actually said to me, "Since your wedding isn't until December, you should really wait until it's a little closer. This way if someone wants to come in to taste cakes because they need one that week, you're not taking up an appointment space." Now I know we're ahead of the game with planning our wedding, but I'm not going to go to a bakery right before our wedding to try a place that I don't even know is good! In my opinion this was extremely poor customer service. We will absolutely not be calling them back to schedule an appointment "closer to the wedding". They just lost a potential customer! Very, very disappointed in Palermo's for over a year. I have given them my business for many years because they are local, and I prefer to support local businesses, but I honestly think I need to cut ties with them once and for all. Ever since they opened their location in Little Ferry the quality of their products has steadily declined. I always liked their Raisin Tea Biscuits, but the size has been reduced by half, but the price has remained the same. Not worth the money! I stopped in today, for perhaps the last time, to get some rolls. I got a mix of Sesame and Poppy seed rolls, and the Sesame seeds and Poppy seeds appear to have been applied individually with a tweezer. I'm not kidding! It almost seems like they are trying to either drive customers away, or steer them to their new location, which, based on my experience with the Ridgefield Park location, I no longer have any desire to visit. My feeling is that they have gotten too big and have lost their way. They are obviously unable to maintain the quality of their products. It's a shame really, but if I were you I would just pass them by. Plenty other area bakeries in the area that consistently produce high-quality products. If I could have given NO STARS I honestly would have. Check out their ratings. More than half as many reviewers gave them 1 star as opposed to 5 stars. Wake up your ship is sinking!! read more

Well I've never been to the shop, but they were at the Bridal Expo yesterday (held in the Marriott Marquis in Times Square). They were giving everyone TWO 2x2x3 (in inches) pieces of delicious cake. I would have given this bakery more stars, because their cakes and pastries are fresh and delicious, if it weren't for a customer service issue I had here. I had been going here for years and then returned to order a cake for a baby shower. They take the time to allow you to come in and taste the variety of filling and cake flavors, which we did, and ordered the cake, which came to over $200. It looked adorable. Once we were eating it we realized they used the wrong filling. I know this for a fact because when we went to the tasting there was this one filling that we all really liked and this wasn't it at all. I called the bakery and they couldn't care less. I barely even got an apology. I really liked their baking but I wouldn't go back here on principle alone. read more

I have no idea why, as I was polite, quiet and respectful. She gave me my change from a 20 and unfortunately I didn't count my change (my mistake, I know). I was dumb and trusting. Update: After posting my reviews on several websites, I was contacted by two of the owners of Palermo's, Joanne and Paul. I got to speak and work with Paul, who was much more sympathetic to the situation than Leann had been in the 5-week ordeal, and did everything in his power to make up for the mistake and keep me and my husband as returning Palermo's customers. They offered to re-make the top tier of our cake and dine at their restaurant, which we are scheduling for this month. Paulie demonstrated great customer service skills - I wish it was him who had dealt with the complaint the first time around! Hopefully other brides will not have to deal with other employees from Palermo's that treated us the way we were treated. The owners, however, showed a lot of pride in their bakery and a desire to make their customers happy. Original Review: Getting your cake through your wedding venue, but it's coming from Palermo's? BEWARE! This company has shown me they do not care about their 'wholesale customers' like us. The instructions after our cake tasting (with Leigh Ann) were to bring our cake topper to the venue, no more than 5 inches wide. I spent over four hours making our cake topper by hand. Palermo's delivered a cake that had a fully decorated top tier to my wedding venue, so my venue was unable to use the cake topper I had made. I didn't find out until the reception, so I was obviously very upset. Two days after the wedding, I reached out to Palermos. After taking more than two weeks to get in touch, Leigh Ann claimed it was "an error by one of the decorators." Her recommendation for remediation, after speaking with her boss (Jerry, who is the owner, I believe), was a $100 gift certificate to Palermos. I requested a full refund for my cake. I acknowledged that we did not pay the bakery, but we did pay our venue thousands of dollars to have our wedding there, and the venue in turn paid Palermos for the cake. After consulting her bosses again, the only change was that we were offered the $100 as cash/check instead of a gift certificate. Leigh Ann told me she "thought that was pretty fair" and that her bosses said that because we were a wholesale customer (aka purchased through our venue) that there was nothing they could do. Leigh Ann made sure to ask how the cake looked otherwise and how it tasted and requested a picture be sent to her. On the phone, she said "well, it looked great and tasted good." The cake did not come as we had ordered and requested it, so no, it did not look great. My wedding cake pictures are ruined, my hard work and time was wasted, and my confidence in this company has fallen. They have shown that just because we didn't place an order through the bakery ourselves, they have no care to fix their mistakes and take care of their customers. In addition, I left my name/number with people who answered the phones in Ridgefield Park, and Leigh Ann didn't get my messages twice. Not sure who's at fault there, but obviously their communication amongst staff is lacking. read more

I ordered my baby shower cake from Palermo's bakery. I am very disappointed what they did to the cake. It wasn't even close to what I wanted. I took the picture of the cake and asked them to make it the same with slightly different color but the cake was way too off from what I asked for. Have been watching this bakery change for years. Used to be really good everything was fresh. Since they opened new locations it seems they've let the quality go for quantity. As well as prices going up. The last straw is this morning I went in at 5:20 am to buy stuff for my friends at work in queens. The first guy to grab a donut said it felt like yesterday's. First off I am a baker and cake decorator myself. Aside from the decorative aspect of a cake, taste is very important. I have to say Palermo does exactly both. We got married at The Grove and our wedding cake was included. I paid a little extra for fondant accents. We were greeted very nicely when we arrived and had to wait a little. We were offered coffee from next door at the bakery. Our cake designer Olga was wonderful. She got our vision and designed our cake exactly the way I wanted it to look like. The cake tasting was amazing!!!! Every piece of cake we tried we loved. It was hard to choose from. We ended up choosing the dark chocolate cake with baci filling for our first and fourth filling, the second tier was vanilla with french cream and raspberry filling and the third tier was vanilla with dulce de leche filling. The day of our wedding we were so anamored by how beautiful our cake looked! Every detail was incorporated. Everybody raved about our stunning cake and how good it tasted. For our one month of marriage I contacted Olga again and to order a replica of our top tier that I froze, except I wanted the vanilla, french cream and raspberry filling. This bakery used to be my go-to place for pastries but I have noticed since their expansion to other locations that their quality has gone really down and the prices up. I went there on Father's Day at 1:00pm and everything I purchased was stale. The mini cheesecakes and mini lobster tails were old and dry. The rainbow cookies were tasteless and also dry. The fresh baked goods (a blueberry muffin, a melt away danish & a cream donut) were also stale when I tried them at home only an hour later. I also bought a chocolate mousse cake and this was okay. I have been with Palermo's since 2010. And when I say I have been, that is the operative word as I don't work there but I don't buy my special occasion cakes from ANYONE else. I have, no lie, bought more than 15 cakes from these folks from every occasion --birthdays, anniversaries, christenings, my favorite team (baseball/basketball) making it to the finals..you name..they make it. And please note, I am not just saying I have bought a "regular" cake..all my cakes have been custom and I have been able to thought partner with one of the best designers and I always get what I want. I am NEVER disappointed. And I would be remiss not to should out my girl, Leann who works there and has always made me feel like royalty and has made my ideas jump off the paper and the final product always exceeds my expectations. Parking might be a little tough during busy times. Good quality pastries and highly recommended when having wedding cakes created. They charge 3:50-4 bucks a slice for wedding cakes which is a lot cheaper than other places. Pastries are 8 bucks per pound. read more

Love, love, love their cakes! Our wedding venue included a wedding cake from Palermo's and it was delicious! My fiance, maid of honor, bridesmaid and I went for a cake tasting and hasd a great time. We ended up going with the vanilla cake with french cream raspberry for our wedding, and they decorated it so beautifully. I also ordered a surprise groom's cake for my husband and he was thrilled. We ended up eating it after the honeymoon (the wedding went by so quickly we barely ate cake) but one week later it was still delicious! We also love the fact that they will recreate your cake top tier for your 1 year anniversary so you don't have to freeze it and eat 1 year old cake... so we are having our top tier for our one month. Their Strawberry Shortcake is very good. Anything else, I save for my favorite bakery in Hackensack. The last batch of Italian cookies i had were terrible, hard and bland. Their prices are too high for average-poor quality. My husband keeps buying the awful Chinese cookies. I only like them from certain bakeries. My husband goes to CVS and lazily goes across the street instead of going someplace good. There's a loyal bunch of altacockers who come here. I think I can blame my recent weight gain on this place. I love their fruit pie/tarts and the fact that you can get them in mini sizes. My mom is obsessed with their cheese horns. The cannolis are good, but I think I spend most of my money on the fruit tarts and fruit pies. They are always really nice when I call to ask them to set aside a pie or cake. I asked the girl if the cake was REAL whipped cream she assured me it was silly me I believed her It was some sort of whipped topping it tasted terrible & left a terrible after taste in your mouth Besides that I bought 1 small tray of honey balls did not care for them too much .The worst part is paying $33. & then throwing them in the trash.
