Attended a cake event here last night. The entire facility is super clean and updated. There is an upstairs for more intimate experience and downstairs is a bakery and pizza spot . Everything we tried was delicious and beautiful! Each cake was beautifully made and you can tell the passion the team has to put out such beautiful pastries and cakes. The cupcakes were some of the best I've ever had. The team here is so kind and friendly. Palermo is one of two bakeries my wedding venue works with to provide catered wedding cakes. When we reached out to Palermo's by email about our tasting, they advised us that we did not need an appointment and that they have cake tasting boxes ready for pick up at each of their locations. I visited the Little Ferry location since that was the closest store to me. The store smells like freshly baked cake and is delightful from the moment you walk in. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by one of the store employees. I explained that I was there for a tasting box and showed him the email as confirmation. He handed me a box, which had sixteen cake samples, including basic and premium flavors, a pamphlet with descriptions of the flavors and a sheet with instructions for how to place an order. The whole visit took under 5 minutes and was very efficient. The cakes need to be refrigerated so I was nervous about them melting on my drive home, but they held up. I haven't gotten through all flavors yet but so far, some of the standouts are dulce de leche and the carrot cake. I'm looking forward to getting through the rest. Sixteen flavors is a generous sample box and representative of their complete offerings. I think the customer service by email has been helpful so far too. read more

I know about Palermo's because when I was doing research on NJ wedding venues, pretty much all of them were working with Palermo's for the wedding cake. Fast forward about 3.5 years. I really wanted to get some sfogliatella for my sis + fam, who were visiting from Hawaii and there is another bakery that makes the best ones ever. Unfortunately, that bakery was closed on my sister's last day in town, so l figured we'd check out Palermo's, since they also wanted to bring some Italian cookies back home. The cookie selection seems okay, EXCEPT they don't even have rainbow cookies! I did see that they had the sfogliatella, so we decided to give those a try. But it was a mistake. These looked (and tasted) undercooked. It didn't have the nice golden brown color. No powdered sugar. No cream filling (even though when I asked the employee if it had any, she assured me that it did). Overall, it tasted old so I'm wondering when it was even baked. It was very dense, almost like a scone, and it definitely should not be like that. Don't think I'll be making a return visit anytime soon. read more

It's that time of year again, when patrons head to their favorite Italian bakery in droves to pick up some zeppole and sfingi today on St. Joseph's Day which is also Father's Day in Italy. Luckily this establishment located on Liberty Street in Little Ferry was open. The shape of the cream-filled pastry is symbolic resembles a carpentry plane, which Saint Joseph was known to use regularly. One is filled with vanilla custard, the other with cannoli cream. I bought one of their prepackaged cannoli cakes. It was the worst cake i ever tasted. I tasted no ricotta cheese just overwhelming birthday cake frosting. I feel incredibly unsatisfied after spending $23 on a cake that was inedible. Absolutely nothing about it was cannoli. It was a scam. They made a very cheap cake, made it look nice, and then label it in pretty writing "Cannoli Cake" to get you to pay for it and then you take it home no, no cannoli, no ricotta, no crumbled shells, just blah. We ordered pizza for pickup on Saturday night while hanging out down the road at Brix City Brewing, and they were able to have our order ready in 20 minutes! For 4 adults and 2 kids, we got three 12-inch pizzas: Pepe (cherry tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil), Mushroom (Alfredo sauce, roasted garlic, sautéed onions, and spinach), and an olive pizza (kid-friendly!). My husband and I used Palermo's bakery for our wedding cake this year. In short - they are wonderful!! We got a typical cake tasting box and tried out all the flavors. We decided with half lemon and half dulce de leche. Both flavors ended up to be stunning in the final product! Our guests really enjoyed it as well! The process to designing the cake was quite seamless. They used some faux flowers for our design, because they do not do fresh flower inserts. One thing is that they are a bit pricey. And they weren't really willing to give us a discount if we chose to get a plain cake and add flowers ourselves. We ended up paying a little extra to get faux flowers. This was our first time at this location. Our wedding cake was made at the other location a few years ago, which was delicious and gorgeous. The bakery is very nice and spacious with plenty of parking. We wanted to try their pizzas but was there a bit too early so it was not available. We decided to get an assortment of pastries since they all looked so good. The staff was very patient with us as we were asking a bunch of questions and picking one at a time. The pastries were delicious, moist and not overly sweet. We will definitely be returning to get some more and also to try their hot food. read more

I came here years ago looking for rainbow cake cookies, which they didn't have so I left. Now I read this place is on New Jersey's top ten list for Italian Bakeries so yeah I do another trip. Best to take Rt 46 to get here and they got lots of parking. The decor is not as impressive as the exterior but they got 4 display cases are full of mini pastries, cakes, cookies, panna cotta and they also got a brick oven always firing in case it's a pie that you want. I get some cookies, mini cannolis, napoleons a loaf of sesame seed Italian bread. The cookies are freshly made, buttery, and full of flavors, The cannolis were just filled with a moist and tasty ricotta cheese when I ask for them and had crunchy shells. The verdict? well, the place is pretty good and can hold their own against any of the other bakeries I been too, but they still don't have rainbow cake cookies. read more

Their affordable and tasty pies keep me coming back ($10 for a 7", $14 for a 10"). We brought a pumpkin pie from here for a Thanksgiving dinner and it was definitely the highlight of the desserts. They have a wide mix of different options so it's good for groups of people with different tastes. They have everything, from savory soups and pizzas to paninis and Italian desserts. I had the dolce panini (prosciutto and gorgonzola with fig spread on a ciabatta) which had a good mix of some of my favorite flavors but was too "dolce" for me. The sugary fig spread was really thick and made the prosciutto difficult to bite off. I also wished the bread was softer. The steak pizza was a winner, though my spouse thought it was too greasy (I liked it that way though). The chicken and broccoli pizza needed more flavor and a crispier crust. The children in our party loved the donuts they got. Overall, their dishes are decent but expect things to taste a slightly sugary and processed. Five stars for the pies and desserts, four stars for the service (they're so nice here), and three stars for the rest of the food. read more

We had gone here bc our wedding venue worked with this bakery. We stopped by and picked up a tasting box and decided on the cake we would go with. Sent an email and picked a very simple 4 tiered design as our florist was going to be decorating the cake with the theme of the event. Fast forward to the event when the venue brought out the cake, I was astonished at the sight and size of this cake. It was the most smallest 4 tiered cake I had ever seen, it looked like a Sam's club cake. How was this a 400 person cake. I was so disappointing that an event of this magnitude and so grand was given such a small tiny cake. We just came back from our mini honeymoon and finally have the time to write this review on Yelp. For reference, I've attached some photos to show proof. Also, I initially sent an email to our cake consultant before writing this review. I have not received any reply. We didn't think the inspo cake was too difficult to make and we got a totally different cake on our wedding day which is unfortunate. We had no way of knowing Palermo's team would provide us a cake that is unsightly for the most important day of our lives, far from what we asked for. We didn't want a stacked cake and we thought this design was a breeze. We didn't want the chocolate topper as on the inspo cake. Just 3 separate cakes with the same proportions but instead of gold, use silver. Well, as you can see on the actual cake, it IS not what we got on our wedding day. We wanted the largest cake to look like concrete. It wasn't. It was white with random grey strokes. We did get the silver cake and the black cake but the proportions are off. Also, we asked for red food coloring for the buttercream on the red velvet cake, it was white. The red velvet cake was supposed to be in the black cake. The black cake had lemon. The surprise for my husband was ruined because the cake was supposed to be ALL RED. The cakes were so off and it's unbelievable how they can get 3 simple cakes so OFF. I'll also add the the base of the cake is so unsightly, so unfinished. It was absolutely terrible. The bakers couldn't be bothered to make our WEDDING CAKE look PRETTY and we paid extra for it. I was absolutely embarrassed to show the cake because it is FAR from what we were expecting but we had no choice. We PAID EXTRA for a cake we thought we were going to get. So heartbroken that on the day everything was supposed to be perfect it wasn't because our cake was not even close. read more

For a three layer birthday cake they will charge you $400 and won't event speak to you. Everything is done via email and online. There is no personalized serve. If you call they tell you to go to internet or email. They are rude dismissive and curt if you call them. They literally tell you don't come to Little Ferry to order a cake. Do it on line. Very disappointed. Went to another place got a speciality 60th birthday cake three layer and Bavarian crème inside and it was great. Finally they are not veteran friendly and are insulting. When explaining to rep on phone who was a woman said we don't care about veterans just put your order in email. Well we won't do that or ever patronize this business. Very arrogant. read more

Beautiful building with small parking lot, the building has the bakery downstairs & more upscale table service upstairs. They also have outdoor patio dining space. Pastries can be a hit or miss. LITTLE FERRY: before we headed into Brix City Brewing, we wanted to pickup dinner to coat our stomach before having some beer. Right up the street from Brix is Palermo Bakery! Don't be fooled by their name. They are not only a bakery but also a cafe where you can get delicious sandwiches and Italian-style fare. There are also a lot of outdoor tables, but chairs are brought out during the warmer months. Their veggie and hummus sandwich felt rich with the dreamy 7 grain bread (there's nothing better than a good piece of bread)! And, they make their own potato chips! After passing this place numerous times during their construction phase, I was so excited to finally give it a try. This is Palermo's third location and this one appears to be their best one yet. Not only do they have an extensive collection of bakery items (made on the premises) but they also offer sandwiches, paninis, salads, and pizzas. They also serve hot breakfast (turnovers, frittatas, etc.). And get this...they have a liquor license. They offer wines by the glass or the bottle, in addition to domestic, import, and craft beers. Most wines by the glass are around $8 and their beers range from $3.75 up to about $6. We split a salad pizza (we wanted to eat light so we'd have room for the bakery items) and it was very good. It is more of a personal-size pizza, perfect for one person. Pizzas range from $8 to $12. We split a red velvet cupcake (huge) and some 5" chocolate chip M&M cookies and some 5" rainbow sprinkle cookies. Needless to say, our sweet tooth was satisfied. The staff was very accommodating and very eager to assist. It was quite busy in there around 8:30 PM - lots of people picking up cakes and cookies, in addition to people dining in. This is more of a soft-opening for them, as their Cake Lounge is not open yet (upstairs). It sounds like it will offer a more extensive food menu and a swanky atmosphere. I am always so happy when local places kick arse. From what we experienced it seems like there will be a lot more goodness to come from this Palermo's location. Welcome to Little Ferry! read more
