I was looking for a place that did custom cakes so I could order a 'pizza' cake for my daughter's first birthday. I found Veriella's and sent them a few photos of what I wanted and they gave me quotes that were significantly cheaper than other similar bakeries in the area. For a 25-person cake, they said the lead time would be about two weeks. They have several cake flavors/fillings to choose from (some cost extra) and we went with a lemon cake with blueberry filling. It was such a good combination - everybody loved it and the cake came out on point to the picture I sent them. Communication was easy (via email). We actually ended up going into the bakery the day before pick-up because we decided to do some last-minute party favors with some Italian cookies. We got a bunch of rainbow cookies, sprinkle cookies, and a raspberry filled one. Unfortunately, these missed the mark. They tasted old and I'm pretty sure they order them from elsewhere because of the cardboard trays/plastic wrap they were wrapped in. I wouldn't come back for these but the next time I need another custom cake, I would definitely order from them again. read more

Each and every time I drove past I'd make a mental note that the next time I was in the area I'd definitely stop by to check them out. (This went on for years, I'm sorry to admit.) Then - thanks to a mix of happenstance and holidays - I actually made it inside. After a few visits I can report that... It's tiny. The menu leans dessert/sweets heavy. They do have a small selection of breads and rolls. They have a savory/sandwich section (which I've yet to try). The offerings behind those glass cases look mouthwateringly enticing, the few items we've ordered (from semolina bread to carrot cake to their apple turnovers) have all been mighty delicious. How can you not be enamored by items like their (seasonal) personalized Easter Bundt cakes?! (Who even knew that petite Bundt pans were even a thing?) Veriella's location (just steps from a ridiculously busy intersection) makes finding a parking spot challenging, to say the least. Pricing is fair. The workers have all been awesome (friendly and accommodating). We're fans for sure. read more

We went to Veriella's Bakery in November to get something that would be fun for a gender reveal. We had lobster tails filled with delicious French cream -one in blue to announce "It's a boy!". Everyone was impressed with the pastry so we decided to go back and order cupcakes for my daughter's baby shower. She chose funfetti cupcakes and what made them absolutely perfect was the way they designed the cupcakes to fit the theme.- "A little honey is on the way" . My daughter sent several photos and was quite surprised when they made some in every design. They even made some gluten free. They were absolutely delicious and quite the hit. One of the few places that actually makes coffee ice cubes for iced coffee! Bacon, egg and cheese on store baked roll- had a good amount of eggs to meat ratio. Biscotti and S cookies stand up good to dip in hot or iced coffee! If you pass through Carlstadt make a stop- you won't be disappointed. The person who answered the phone was patient and eager to help me and the person who helped me in store provided a bunch of helpful tips for cutting it. Veriella's did an excellent job on my daughter's 1st birthday cake. I came in with a design in mind, and the staff worked with me to make it happen. They showed me some pictures of a similar design they had done in the past which looked great. So I was confident that they would do a good job. As far as the cake and filling, there is a menu of options to choose from. I chose a yellow cake with vanilla cream and strawberry filling and whipped cream icing. The cake turned out better than I expected. The design, the piping work, and the colors made the cake look cute and perfect for a baby girl's 1st birthday. The cake itself was moist and the vanilla cream and strawberry filling was a delicious combination. The whipped cream icing was a good choice over the butter cream, as the level of sweetness was not over the top. Everyone at the party really enjoyed the cake. The staff was friendly and professional and the cake baker, I was told, has 20 years of experience. The pricing is very reasonable as well. 1st time I ordered a custom birthday cake and it wasn't ready at said pick up time. I was late to event because we had to wait for it. Cake tasted good so I gave them another shot and ordered a custom grad cake. My husband picked it up and delivered it to the venue. When they rolled out the cake I was embarrassed it looked so awful. Bubbling under edible layer was inexcusable. My guests were asking what was wrong with it. Very obvious in our photos. It you read my reviews on bakeries you know I like rainbow cake cookies The truth of the matter is my BFF loves rainbow cake cookies and I would do my search for the Holy Grail like in Excalibur to find them for her, yea I'm that guy, I one time was out their at 2:00 AM and was knighted for my effort!!! I then see a ROTD for Veriella's Bakery and realize this was a bakery I was looking for but was going to the wrong town looking for it. In my part of NJ if you drive 5 blocks you are in other town, we got houses that the front and back have different zip codes. So it's easy not finding places especially without GPS. I look at the Yelp photos and I see rainbow cake cookies. Oh ya, I go on another quest to Veriella's or should I say parking because their isn't any, so I park at a church's parking lot a block away and walk inside. There no Morgana but there are rainbow cake cookies. I get them and a few other types. I also take another look and notice the cake and pastries offering are on the low side for a bakery but take could be that they are a neighborhood bakery and don't have enough traffic to warrant more items. The cookies taste good and were still fresh from being made no more than a day ago. So on pecking order Veriella's makes it to third place on my list for rainbow cake cookies, at least in what my BFF likes. Came here on a whim at noon on a Saturday and most cakes were sold already. There were a few left so I bought a vanilla cake with cannoli filling for my good friend's birthday and it was delicious. It was moist and very tasty. The best part....it's inexpensive. They list their pricings on the wall so you don't need to ask about it. Unlike many other bakeries in Bergen county, the cashiers just calls out a number on top of their head. They also have other pastries and cookies, bagels, coffee and Italian Ices. The service is friendly. While waiting for service, more people came in and before we know it, there's a line. I will definitely come back but next time, I'm get a chocolate cake (which they sold out when I got there.) I definitely recommend others to try this place. read more

I was invited to Palisade's Park for the first warm day of spring (finally), and first BBQ of the season (yay!). Most of the key items were already covered, so I decided to grab some pastries to bring. First, I had no clue how many pasties to bring, and was encouraged to buy the small box, which I appreciated like you can't believe. 1. because I felt like I was being taken care of and not upsold 2. because I am always over-generous with just about everything. Annnd, no one at the BBQ brought any sweets besides my sister. The pastries were yummay! I got Napoleons, cannolis, and some tiramisu. This is an awesome bakery! I came here from a referral of a friend's friend, because I needed a gluten-free cake at the last minute. Everyone was super friendly and very helpful. I called on Monday and picked up my cakes on Tuesday. I actually ended up ordering 2 cakes: a chocolate gluten-free cake with French crème filling and buttercream frosting and a gluten-full traditional red velvet. The only caveat was that the red velvet had some raspberry filling, which was unexpected. Both cakes were bit hits at the party, deliciously moist and only cost $35 (for both of them!!!) He gave them a call, explained what he wanted and emailed pictures of what he had in mind. They went above and beyond! They stayed open late to assure the cake would be delivered fresh and not risk it being ruined by the club it was being delivered to. Everything was perfect! The design was spot on and so realistic. This review is only for the cake I received for my birthday. While I was looking for a reasonable priced cake, I found this bakery and found the price of the cake to be reasonable. Not $60 + dollars like most places were charging. $30 for a cake. That's reasonable. When I got to the bakery, the cake was not finished yet even though I told them the time that I would be picking it up. They were rushing to make the cake, and at the end, the cake was not what I expected. The cake did not have a lot of strawberries in at all. Just whip cream. I was disappointed that the cake turned out this way. I probably will not use them next year for my birthday. I might return for the wraps and sandwiches but not for cake and pastries. For what I saw in the window of the bakery of baked goods, the cupcakes looked smaller than average. read more

I started stopping into Veriella's to grab a coffee on my way to work. Well, with all the cookies and pastries staring at me I couldn't resist grabbing a sweet treat to go with my coffee. This place is a good local spot with tasty treats and great prices. I have actually checked with the counter person to make sure she charged me for everything before I left. The prices are that low. Besides having the cookies and brownies I also had their Easter wheat pie and pizza rustica (Easter also). They were both fresh and quite good. Veriella's Bakery is a new addition to Carlstadt's shopping district on Hackensack St. Its been quite some time since Carlstadt had its own bakery. I stopped in on my way home from work, the day before Thanksgiving. My absolute favorite italian pastry from my youth are sfogiatelle. Seeing them on the counter as I arrived, I knew what I was going to pick up. I bought all they had so I could share with my guests on Thanksgiving. I asked how best to store them overnight and then serve them on Thursday. I was advised to keep them in the box and place the box in the refrigerator. Remove from the refrigerator about an hour or so before serving so they'd reach room temperature. They did not disappoint. They were fantastic. The whole family enjoyed them. I was able to squirrel a few away and had them on Sunday. They were just as good. Even after several days in the refrigerator. I will definitely be going back to Veriella's to try more. This past Thursday, I ordered a birthday cake for my wife's party on Saturday. I was pleasantly surprised at the options they offered in choices of cakes and fillings and even frosting! When I picked up the cake, it looked fantastic. Admittedly, I kept my expectations modest since I had never had one of their cakes. I cannot express how good this cake was! I got a chocolate cake with strawberry filling, and buttercream frosting....everyone absolutely loved it! It was so delicious...the cake was moist and more importantly for me, it was just the right level of sweetness. I was commended by my whole family for making such a good choice. My first ever 5 star review! This is a great little bakery which packs a good-sized selection of Italian pastries, cookies and cakes. I've been here about 5 times since they opened and don't think I've ever had anything I didn't like. First of all...the display is amazing. Everything not only LOOKS delicious in the case, it all TASTES awesome too. I've been to other bakeries and everything also LOOKS fantastic in the case, only to get home (salivating for dessert) and the cake, pie or whatever is dried out and obviously not fresh. Pet peeve of a dessert lover!!!! That has not happened with Veriellas. I can vouch for: cream puffs (all varieties), lobster tail, mini tira misu, pasticciotti (can't pronounce it but will say that it tastes good on the buds...I had the almond/chocolate version), German chocolate cake, biscotti (several varieties). The kids' favorites include the sugar cookies, cake pops and Italian rainbow cookies. Again - all fresh and super moist and delicious. Gee this review is gonna make me sound like a lardo, but what can I say...I love dessert! Looking forward to my next visit and trying whatever else they have in store for me!!
