I always have wanted to try paletas (Mexican frozen treats), so we went to the store. It was small and cute and looked like an old-fashioned candy shop. The lady behind the counter was very helpful. There were no signs on the frozen treats with sticks, nor were there any signs on the ice cream in the case. We wanted the paletas and asked for a list of flavors. She pointed to a row (of about 12) treats made with milk and another row of treats made without milk, and she named each one as she pointed to it. Most boasted fresh fruit as the main flavor. We both got treats with milk; he got passion fruit and I got rum and raisin. We decided that the milk overpowered the passion fruit flavor and next time we would get it in a plain fruit bar (sin leche). The rum and raisin was divine. The flavors also included coffee, cookies and cream, strawberry, guava, and coconut (to name a few). There wasn't any mango (that would have been my first choice). I spied prepackaged candy-coated peanuts. I couldn't pass up getting a bag, and it was one of the best I have ever had. At about $4 each for the homemade treats, we think it was worth the splurge. We hope to stop by the next time we are in the area. I can hear the coconut and the guava calling out to me.

Although I'm an ice cream connoisseur. I was greeted right away and the nice girl behind the counter offered to give sample of any ice cream that I would like to try. I tried a few of the unique ones which was quite delicious like the rum banana bread and island poundcake. Since Rum Raisin is my all-time favorite, I went with the Appleton Rum Raisin (first time trying this version) and Guinness Stout in a waffle cone. Both were creamy flavorful and delicious. The waffle cone was also fresh, perfect thickness, with a nice crunch and held my fast melting Rum Raisin very well. Glad I got it. Wonderful experience as the service was great.
