All of it is just amazing. And the best part is, there's so many ways to just have a good time and a good workout on this trail. The Beach Trail is about 2.3 miles long in total, but it can feel like a pretty long walk. AND that's only one-way. Coming back, you have to do another 2.3 miles, if you're returning to the beginning of your route. But you'll really see everything. Love the Beach Trail!

We parked at the Metrolink Avenida Estacion (North Beach). This is a paid parking lot which we initially missed seeing. Our destination from here was the San Clemente Pier which is about 2 miles. To find the Beach Trail, walk east, all the way to the end of the parking lot. Our walk started out great until we were about 1/2 mile in. Unfortunately, the trail was closed due to construction for the erosion happening in the area. A construction worker told us it would be a long walk through the neighborhood and he was right. We headed up the stairs into the neighborhood, hoping it would be a doable walk. With no sidewalks and no straight road towards the pier, we decided to turn around and head back to the car. It would have been helpful from the start if there was a sign indicating that a portion of the Beach Trail was closed. Make sure to check for closures before heading to this trail.

This place is essentially a dog park. Residents will bring their unleashed dogs here to roam through your reserved areas and pee right near your ceremony. We had THREE separate unleashed dogs traipse through the wedding ceremony. Even though you reserve the park for private use, nearby residents think they own this place. They all come here to drink. Very loud and rowdy even while the couple was saying their vows. We had at least 5 or 6 people want to come down to the lower area during our rental period and they would argue with us saying "it's a public park". We spoke with the park rangers and they said we have the right to the space for our use and don't have to let people in. PROS: The view and rental price. CONS: Dog urine smell, dog poop everywhere, dog poop smell, entitled residents/neighbors, heavy alcohol use here among neighbors/residents. Zero respect from the public. No restrooms. Ceremony area down below is very slanted.

Walk along the harbor, look at the boats, and spot birds and sea lions. You'll see them lounging on the dock or boats and hear them barking every night. Be sure to walk down to the bridge and cross over. There are nice, grass areas with benches, picnic tables, etc. It's a beautiful view. Enjoy the beauty! There is a ton of free parking, clean public bathrooms, and the beautiful coastline. Then add in the dining, shopping, whale watching tours, paddle boarding, canoeing, sailing, and wading at Baby Beach.... This is a wonderful place to visit.

Place could use a little TLC. Their is some street parking but I can see them filling up in the morning and in the evening. When I stopped in, all the benches were taken with people chilling and taking in the incredible view of the harbor. The view is mostly of a Southern view so the sunset is not that great but the view of the harbor with the sun setting and the lights coming on is probably magnificent.

We saw this dimly lit path which lead us up to this charming little area where you can watch the waves slowly coming in and back out to sea. It was a cute little lookout spot that's well-maintained. I wouldn't drive all the way out here for this little sliver of an alleyway, but it's worth going if you are in and around the area.

We…read moreoriginally went to Doheny State Beach, and after talking with one of the state park workers, he recommended Strands Beach because it's a little less crowded and has beautiful crystal blue water. We're so glad we came! Parking was abundant, and while there are quite a few stairs to get down to the beach, it was incredibly peaceful and relaxing once we arrived. The bathrooms were also very clean -- honestly some of the cleanest public beach bathrooms we've experienced. Definitely a great spot for families and somewhere we'll be coming back to again. Highly recommend!

Unusual beach in Dana Point…read more We stopped by yesterday afternoon - parked on the Strand and walked 165 steps and a steepish slope down to the ocean (140 foot elevation drop according to my smart phone). There were rocks, tide pools, and sailboats on the horizon. What's not to like? Will be back!
