Tucked away in a small shopping plaza. I drove passed it. Study flow of customers dining and coming in for carry out. Popped in here on way out of Key Largo. Slow service. I ordered a large cafe con leche, grabbed the last pack of assorted pastries, one loaf of Cuban bread, and 2 cannolis. We liked many of the pastries. The Cuban bread was the best! We made egg and cheese sandwiches. I should've bought two loaves. The guava filled pastries were very good too. The cannoli was dry and the cream filling was too sweet. I'm glad I only received 1 of 2 cannolis. It wasn't good, but I did pay for it. The lady who helped me was nice, but took her time chatting with her coworkers and coming back to me. Stopped in to grab a cubano it was really good. Bread was so fresh and they toasted it nicely. Nice size for the price too.

Amazing service and huge portions! Highly recommend the fried pork ~$11 which was crispy on the outside and supremely juicy and flavorful on the inside (fed 4!). It came with grilled onions, a large portion of beans and rice, and mashed yucca. The lechon ~$6 had really crispy skin and tender meat, not too greasy either. The staff warmed up the pastelitos for us, which was a perfect ending for the meal. read more

APPETIZING MORSELS ON THE WAY TO EVERGLADES NP! We were on da hunt for breakfast options in the early morning as we planned to hit Florida's Everglades National Park early to avoid the sweltering heat & humidity accompanying this biosystem (see I was listenin' during the Ranger Talk!) in mid-June. Dunkin' Donuts?!? Never. Cracker Barrel, Mickey D's, IHOP... nah, all stuff I can get at home. I want some LOCAL GRUB! Yelp says Palm Bakery opens at 0600hrs! Rockin' 4.5 stars on the yelp-meter, too, must be worth a visit! Let's see what this is all about! Located in Florida City, it is even on the way to The Everglades! Can't get any easier than that! Yelp directions are on point, small parking area for the strip mall it's in. The town itself isn't in the most pristine conditions, but kinda typifies the Caribbean vibe. No problema! Will stop for Yummy food anywhere!!! No big sign to say "Here I Am!!!" visible from the street, but as you get closer to the building, there she be! In we go, and there's a line of locals waiting to place their order or hovering to get su comida. Hmmm the locals sign is POSITIVE, even in the early morning! Oh Yeah! Staff is approachable & friendly and fronts the Spanish lingo. I got by with my California-ish Spanish but they spoke English as well ;) Sooo... LET'S EAT! CUBANO SANDWICH ($6.65): It's been mentioned on many Florida To-Do lists that I peeped at, that you have to try a Cuban Sandwich. It holds just as much significance as Key Lime Pie. I've never even heard of that kind of sammie living in Cali all my life. Now was my chance! No, Palm Bakery didn't make any Best Of Lists for their Cubano, but seems like a solid place to start as quite a few locals before me were ordering it! It's a long piece of bread, almost the length the my forearm. Palm's version is Thin pieces of ham, cheese, pickles and Mustard are stuffed inside then toasted on a Plancha, kinda like a panini grill. I dig mustard so this sandwich was TASTY! Even the pickles tasted good! Half a sandwich was filling enough for me. Saved the rest for after our jaunt through The Everglades! Probably a good idea that Mayonnaise isn't used, as that would spoil quickly in this Florida heat! Very content with what I got, now I gotta find an option in Cali ;) PASTEL DE GUAYABA ($1.25): On par with the VERY popular pastry shop in Cali... Porto's and their famous Guava Pastry! Flaky soft breading with a Guava compote that is flavorful without being too sweet! Yum! Shoulda bought more of those! CUBAN COFFEE: Wifey had to sample this version of coffee in the area. When in Rome, right?!? Basically a thicker and creamier version. Still tasted good, and definitely kept her alert for alligators sneaking up on her while we roamed The Everglades! "See any Gators yet, Mama?!?" lol VERY EASY RECOMMENDATION! Friendly staff, short wait times for food prep, tasty morsels, and an affordable price make this a solid option to consider for quick bites when heading into The Everglades! decided to try a new place for breakfast. came here with a friend. the cafe con leche was ok, I asked for dark and not sweet, it was light and super sweet. my friend had the fresh squeezed oj and she enjoyed it. We both had the nica breakfast which came with Gallo pinto, 2 eggs, ham, fried cheese, and plantains. a large amount of food and it tasted ok. however, while eating I was bothered by flies, and then I noticed many flies behind the counter buzzing all around the food. well ok, I won't be coming back here. read more

While looking for a place to get a quick bite to eat on the way back from Key Largo we chanced it and turned off the road to go to Palm Bakery. After turning into the parking lot and looking at the storefront we hesitated because the exterior wasn't the most inviting storefront. After we watched an older guy walk out the front door smiling with arms filled with coffees and pastries we decided to dive in. That was such a good choice. After entering we felt we had entered a traditional Cuban bakery in a very simple format. A gentleman greeted us and asked us what we'd like. He was incredibly helpful and welcoming in explaining the myriad of options, many of which were unfamiliar to us. We ordered two different breakfast sandwiches and two small coffees. Everything was delicious, fresh and expertly prepared. We put Palm Bakery on our short list of "must stop at" when we are in the area and you should too. Don't judge a book by its cover, instead visit Palm Bakery, enjoy their food and coffee all served by their friendly staff. read more

Amazing little bakery! My bestie and I had just stepped off a plane, rented a car, and needed some place to why coffee and a bite to eat. Driving to the Everglades and saw the sign in the street for "Cuban Coffee" seemed like something to try. We were not let astray. This corner bakery is the place that locals come to. So many people popped in to grab a combo plate of plantains, rice, and other yummy looking for. My friend and I shared a Cuban Coffee, empanada, and guava pastry. Everything I've tried has been amazing, and that list isnt short. You have to check out my favorites... Cuban Sandwhich, Pan con Bistec, Empanadas (pollo, Carne, jamon y queso), Guava Pastellitos.... AND coconut guava pastellitos!! Yes, that is one pastellito. I've never seen that kind at any other bakery down in homestead (and I've been to many) and let me tell you that the flavor combo is out of this world amazing. I have ordered pastelitos (pastries) before from this place and they are OK. Today we decided to order their meals. I was apprehensive to order the carne asada as some places tend to overcook it and it turns out tough and dry. Well that was not the case here, it was juicy and tender, a good size portion better than expected. We also order the palomilla steak, not too thin and juicy, not overcooked, I liked that they wrapped separately in aluminum foil allowing to keeps its juices with the grilled onions. The grilled onions were cooked to perfection, all evenly cooked and evenly cut. The last item we ordered were the masas de puerco again huge pork portions very tender and juicy, this is another item that tends to be over-fried and dried out. All were served with gallo pinto, perfect bean to rice ratio and good flavor. Pleasantly surprised! I have never been to this location all I can comment on is on the food delivered. In addition to an excellent cup of Cuban coffee they also have delicious pastries, and other breakfast foods. I found the service to be incredible and everyone was so friendly. The food was delicious, huge portions, and we were able to customize some of the items. We were there for breakfast so it's based solely on that, but we tasted the croquetttas, papa rellena, these cheese breads I can't remember what they're called but they were delicious! And we ordered the Nica Breakfast! It was so good... It came with half and eggs, sausage, cafe con leche, toast, rice and beans, and fried cheese! So good! Stop by and check it out! The food was super super good! They have probably one of the best orange juices I've had, very fresh and REAL oranges. The croquetas, pastelitos and empanadas are really good also.
