The pastry filling was light and not overly sweet, which I really loved. The staff were super friendly and recommended the guava and cheese pastry, and I'm so glad I took their suggestion. Since the coffee was so good, I went back to buy some coffee beans, but they only had ground coffee available, so I picked up a bag. I can't wait to make it at home. I was excited to come here because I have heard so much of this place and I came with a large group of people. This place was huge with many seats and was busy for a Wednesday afternoon. This is a perfect place to come with large groups and there is plenty of free parking. We were seated quickly and waters came right away to our table with menus and our server was ready to take our order as soon as we were ready. Great friendly service. I ordered the CHICKEN VERSAILLES. It was supposed to be a half of a chicken marinated in mojo. It came out, pounded and tasted dry; not moist at all with a small cup on the side of mojo sauce. I was very disappointed. Maybe if I had tried something else on their menu I may have been happier. It came with black beans and rice which tasted ok. We sat for a while after paying the bill to have conversations, but we were told we had to leave because they had to get other people in. So if you want to relax and have a conversations wait before you pay the bill or you will be rushed out. This place is clearly very popular, and there is a very large parking lot across the street so don't be put off by the tiny parking lot right out front. The people showing you to tables and the host stand all wear earpieces, and it felt extremely well organized. Other restaurant patrons were dressed casually but nicely, and it was a relaxed ambiance. I was deciding between the salmon glazed with guava BBQ and the grilled salmon with lemon butter and our server recommended the latter--I do kind of wish I had gone against his recommendation because I felt like the salmon could have been more flavorful but it was still well cooked, as were the yellow rice and sweet plantains. My boyfriend also enjoyed his sandwich. I had the cortadito with evaporated milk and it was really yummy! I don't normally drink coffee but it was recommended in other reviews. I was told that when you're in Florida ESPECIALLY Miami you HAVE to get Cuban food. And wow... now I understand why. As we were driving in, the place already looked beautiful. We came in the evening and immediately, as we walked up, there was music, people laughing, talking, smiling... the energy was incredible. Versailles Cafe has that classic, old school feel to it. The decor gives off a warm, lived in vibe that I really appreciated. The staff was genuinely friendly and welcoming, the food came out fast, and the prices were very reasonable. I did run into some health trouble during our visit. I got sick and ended up in the ER, so I was not able to enjoy the full meal in the moment. After getting checked out and feeling better, I came back to the leftovers and they were still delicious. The Cuban sandwich was solid. Not too heavy, which I appreciated. The Ropa Vieja with rice and beans, and the Moro with Yuca, were both really good. I managed to eat some of it while we were there and finished the rest once I was back on my feet. They also have a bakery on site. One thing I did notice, however, was that the check-in process seemed inefficient. There was one lady at the front, with a wonderful Cuban accent, doing her best to call out names, but many guests weren't paying attention or responding. It appeared to make her job much more difficult and likely slowed the process down. I genuinely felt for her and made sure to thank her when we were finally seated. For the appetizers we ordered the croquetas variadas: jamon (ham) pollo (chicken)and bacallao (fish) Croquetas are an acquired taste, I personally thought these taste it like a can of deviled ham that was deep fried and wasn't very tasty at all and felt like mush as I ate them but apparently this is a very popular thing in Cuban Cuisine 1/5 Stars..no thanks moving on For my meal, I ordered the Arroz con Pollo. While it had some flavor, it was extremely dry and honestly one of the least enjoyable versions of the dish I've ever had. The presentation looked rushed, as if the ingredients had simply been thrown together and plopped on a plate. It arrived so quickly i felt it had been sitting pre-made and waiting to be served. Very decently priced for what you get which is a HUGE plus in todays ridiculously overpriced world. First, they were busy at 9pm. They have a waiting area outside with a bar though so time passes by quickly. Wonderful idea. Friendly staff and a great menu. Vaca Frita (4): The shredded beef is really good. The pan fry is hit or miss. Really good crispy charred bits but can be dry at times. I'm glad I tried it, but I think I'd go with the Ropa Vieja next time to have more moist bites vs. crispy bites. Plantains and Rice with beans were done nicely. Cuban Roast Pork (5): I'd always get this at the Versailles in Los Angeles. For roast pork, can't beat it. Just moist and flavorful. Delicious every time! Mahi Mahi (Dolphin) Filet (4): Learned something new today. When they say 'Dolphin', its not your sea world schooner friend, its actually mahi mahi. It was good. Not overcooked and seasoned nicely. Chicken and Rice (5): Daughter got this and it was really good. Super moist chicken mixed into flavorful rice. I haven't been to Miami and Versailles in years and I was delighted to find it is still an excellent intro to Cuban food and late night dining. After a long flight, my friends and I stopped at Versailles by the airport at 10pm for dinner on a Tuesday night. The restaurant, Cafe and bakery were packed. The service is brusque and fast. The hostess kindly found us a back corner table to accommodate all our suitcases. We ordered sangria, cod fish fritters, calamari, arugula salad, imperial rice special, roasted pork, ropa viewable (shredded beef), liver, tongue and paella to share. The meat portions were a bit smaller than usual, but the generous sides of rice and plantains made up for it. The prices were still fair with most entrees averaging around $15. We didn't order the Cuban sandwich or croquettes, but it seemed like the local favorite with platefuls coming out constantly. Food came out fast and piping hot! We have been wanting to have lunch here for a long time and finally made it last Monday. We wanted to avoid the huge crowds so we got here around 1130am. There were no lines and we lucked out parking very close to the front door. We were seated right away near the front and were served immediately. Versailles is a very large restaurant with French inspired ornate mirrors and lovely chandeliers. It is known as "The World's Most Famous Cuban Restaurant," attracting locals, tourists, celebrities, and politicians. It should be a must visit on your list. We are very happy that we went! Our food was delicious!! My daughter had her Cuban favorite, Vaca de Frita, and loved it. Generous portions here, by the way. I ordered the Lechon Asado (roast pork) with rice & black beans and boiled yucca, which was to die for!! I can't wait to go back for this meal again. We both had cafe con leche, but it wasn't what we hoped for unfortunately. I would get a cortadito next time. For dessert, she got the Tres Leches and I got the Guava and cheese pie. Both were very good. Besides the restaurant, there is a Cuban bakery inside with delicious pastries and cakes. The La Ventanita is their coffee shop window outside attached to their building. My colleagues and I came here on a Thursday afternoon, and we thought this place got great vibes and had very affordable prices. The decorations indoors were very glamorous with chandeliers, lots of mirrors, and spacious seating. The menu was so huge that it was guaranteed that there would be something for everyone. The paella had pretty conventional tastes in terms of the rice, as it was clear that there was some tomato sauce flavoring the rice. The rice was a bit sticky, in a sloppy way. The ropa vieja had a good amount of beef which was great, and it was tender enough with good flavor, but I wish black beans were included with the dish. My colleagues ordered the classic dish and the vaca frita, and both looked like they got an abundant amount of food, which was a plus for sure, for very affordable prices. They had good things to say about the dishes overall. The catalonian style meatballs was a Thursday special dish and was also very affordable. Overall, even though this spot doesn't have the most outstanding taste for its food, its food still has pretty good flavor, and this establishment is definitely worth returning to because of its affordability and vibes. The famous Versailles and I made it. This place is really big inside. There's a bakery on one side, a Café in the middle and on the other side is where you enter for the restaurant. I was greeted immediately and only waited about 5 minutes before I was lead inside. My waiter was so nice and attentive. I ordered a Cuban coffee to start. Then, I ordered the Cuban sandwich. It was very delicious and layered so beautifully with all the meat and cheese. I also ordered the yucca in garlic mojo. Be it the main dining area, the bakery, or the "Ventanita" (walk-up window). During this visit, I started with my favorite beverage on the planet, a Mamey Shake, with milk. Each sip was divine, had the heavenly slight sweetness of the mamey, and I'll never get enough. Our selections were: Yuca Frita (Fried Cassava with cilantro dipping sauce), Bistec de Palomilla (top sirloin steak, with white rice), and the Croqueta Preparada Sandwich (ham, swiss, pickles, ham croquettes, and garlic butter, hugged by a Cuban pressed bread). When I lived in Miami, this was my favorite Cuban spot, so my first trip after moving away, I had to come back! In the past, I had always ordered the Pan con Lechon so did exactly the same! I was bummed that they changed the plantain chips to fries, so decided to get a side of plantain chips as well. The sandwich is huge, so definitely sharable or will have leftovers! I thought the pork itself had good flavor, however it was a little more dry than I remembered. I loved getting the side of plantain chips and trying it with their dip. Legit Cuban Meals and Bakery When in Miami, have some great Cuban food. This restaurant was right down the street from where we were staying. A quick internet search told us we should go there and according to their website, they are 'known as the World's Most Famous Cuban Restaurant'. It's 9:30 pm and we managed to find a parking place, then had to wait for a table. 9:30 pm and we had to wait. There's a large patio area with a bar and people waiting were enjoying some of their favorite cocktails. We walked through this large establishment just to check it out. We found a take out counter that was doing a brisk business. Then there's the bakery. Everything looked good and they too were busy. We sat back out on the patio and were seated in maybe 15 minutes. As it was late, we wanted something, but not too heavy. We ordered a Cubana Especial ($13.75), which is a larger size of the regular Cuban Sandwich, and one Tamal en Hoja ($4.25), which is a tamale wrapped in corn husk. The sandwich was a true authentic Cuban. Cuban bread, soft inside, toasted and pressed with ham, roast pork, Swiss cheese, mustard and pickle. It was great. The tamale was tasty, like most tamales. I had a Hatuey Cuban Style Lager ($7.00/ bottle) which was a little different than our typical US lagers. Perfectly enjoyable. People bear us really enjoyed the Mojitos. Lechon Asado is my favorite but Bistec Empanzsado y congri...YUM. Versailles and La Caretta make the juiciest and most flavorable cooked bananas in town. My favorite breakfast is the Versailles Special with grits (awesome) and two croquetas y tostada. All their food is great but steer clear of brunch on the weekends. A doctor friend and I had their brunch the second week they began doing it on saturday also and though we only had one plate we couldn't eat a thing until the following day. On our last day in Miami, we went back again for one last round of Cafe con Leches and empanadas. We also tried the Media Noche that time and it was SO delicious. With all the popularity, definitely expect a wait. We waited 30 mins but it felt like less than that. It was surprisingly large inside with great decor. Although we were told it was a 30 minute wait, we ended up getting seated a lot quicker. The menu is pretty large. For starters, we ended getting the ceviche, which was pretty good. For the entree, I got the Grilled Polomilla Steak. It comes with rice and plantains. The steak and plantains were pretty good. The rice was just okay. Also, cocktails are $12 here. Overall, a cool place with good food. The outside architecture looks like it was Versailles inspired. They have outdoor seating and a bar while you wait for a seat inside. This is the "most authentic" Cuban restaurant I have ever been to. A friend who lives in the area suggested we go and I love trying authentic cuisine. We stopped in Very late after a cycling event. We walked in around 11pm and the place was full of people with some even waiting!! It seemed to me that this was a highly coveted place for Cuban. I started with the Ceviche. FYI- Don't make the mistake of wearing shorts to Versailles!! The hostess took the time to get staff to set up a special table for me between the bathroom and server's station. Visited this place with coworkers while in town for meetings. The cuban sandwich was really tasty as well as the mojito. We had a group of 8 but service was pretty slow. THIS is the place you bring people from out of town. Authentic Cuban food right on Calle ocho. All the food is delicious AND affordable. It's famous for a reason. Try a traditional Cuban plate, or make it lighter and go the Cuban sandwich with cafecito route... there is no wrong way to do it. SO NOT leave without visiting the bakery. I really wanted a cubano when I was in Miami so our friends brought us here and we got so much more than just cubanos. The croquettes here are something I'll dream about for a while. The Cuban sandwiches we got were really good. We got a few more different sandwiches and dishes that we loved. The service was great and the restaurant was full but not overly crowded. A bit outside the main stretch of shops in Little Havana, Versailles is a Miami classic that's constantly raved about and recommended. The space is huge, with a full restaurant, café, and bakery. After putting your name down on the waitlist, grab a drink from the café or pick up some guava pastries for later. The atmosphere: The dining area is large and lively. While it's hot outside, the air conditioning inside is very strong. I'd recommend bringing a sweater if you get cold easily. The food: I ordered 'The Criollo' sampler, and my partner had the red snapper fillet with garlic sauce. The sampler was delicious and filling. I especially loved the ropa vieja, fried pork, and flavorful rice. The fish was also excellent. We also tried the fried calamari, which was just okay. It tasted like it had been frozen and reheated. The service: The service wasn't the best, likely due to how busy it was. It took quite a while just to get water. Our entrées came out quickly, but our starter didn't arrive beforehand. We visited Versailles Restaurant after reading so many amazing reviews over 26000 people have rated this place! As tourists, we decided we couldn't miss it, even though we had to take an Uber for almost half an hour from our hotel. It was totally worth it! Even though the restaurant was very busy, everything was well-organized and smooth. The place was super clean, the staff were polite and professional, and the food was absolutely delicious the rice was fragrant and tasty, and the meat was tender and full of flavor. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering the great quality and generous portions. After our meal, we decided to order dessert and coffee, and the staff kindly guided us to their own bakery, which is located right on the same property. The desserts there were fantastic fresh, flavorful, and high quality, and the coffee was rich and smooth. The dessert we ordered was one of their most famous ones, and it's meant to be enjoyed with their strong Cuban coffee. Since I ordered black tea instead, it felt a bit too sweet for me but that's just a pairing thing! We also ordered a few items to go, and even though we ate them later when they were cold, they were still very tasty and kept their quality, so we wouldn't deduct any points for that. The only thing I didn't really like was that the area for adding the tip was already highlighted with a pen, as if to remind customers not to forget it. I think that's unnecessary because most people already leave a tip unless they're unhappy with the service, which definitely wasn't the case here. Overall, this restaurant truly deserves 5 out of 5 stars. Everything from the food to the service and desserts was excellent. We really enjoyed our experience, and we'll definitely come back here next time we visit Miami. read more
